Absolutely ace instruction and presentation for both a newbie and someone like me, who had used Apple products for years, but never knew that so many more (and sometimes exciting) things were possible and I am genuinely learning something new each time you publish a lesson. Many thanks for a great video. Even though I have been using Pages for years I learnt something. For simple word processing/page layouts it's a great tool. However, for complicated drawings with hundreds of elements it's virtually useless. The problem has been there since they made it compatible with iPads. Any version after Pages '09 V4.3 slows down seriously to the point where it can take 5/10 seconds to select an object, rendering it unusable. I keep trying every new version as it comes out & none of them have so far fixed the problem. I've filed the problem with Apple many times but no change. Any ideas? Similar family tree drawings have worked OK on MacDraw, Claris Works & oIder versions of Pages, so why doesn't it work on the latest versions? In case you are wondering, I have a fast i5 iMac with 32GB Ram & 1TB SSD.

    is it possible to set pages documents to certain pixel dimensions for later publishing to the web?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As what? Pages doesn't have a way to export as images. The only web-publishable format is PDF which would scale to any size that you use when embedding it into a "box" on a page. If you were to open the PDF in Preview you could export as images from there, and at that point you could set a resolution in pixels-per-inch. So using that number you could set the page to a specific size I suppose. Keynote, on the other hand lets you set slides to pixels and export directly to images, so maybe that is your better option.

    Hi Gary! Is there a way to force Pages to change the size of the image that I import? I don't want to resize each (which is just tons of work!! ;/) and Pages by default streatches the image making it big. I would like to force it make it say 30% of the width of the page. Is it possible?

    • @zoltanzana
      @zoltanzana ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should resize only the first image you import into Pages. After having the image size you want to use in your document, duplicate your image and replace it with your new image (you can find it on the sidebar: format - image - replace). You can also duplicate the image by option dragging it.

    I wanted to know if I can format my book for publication on Amazon KDP with pages. And which one is better Pages of InDesign?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can export as a PDF or an ePub file from Pages, both of which KDP accepts. InDesign is a powerful page layout app, so it is much bigger than Pages, a word processor. But the learning curve would also be steeper. So which is "better" is subjective.

      ePub only supports a small set of things word processors do -- they have to work on all ePub readers which include things like changing the font size, etc. PDF is the format to use if you want things to look close to how they do in Pages. But some interactive elements like videos and galleries aren't supported by PDF readers.
