    It is soooooo much easier to learn all these bells and whistles from your demos than plodding through a manual.👍 The quick green fox is exhausted now is going to take a break 🤣

    I've just got into using Pages as a substitute for Notes. I was tired of occasional sync issues with Notes; the big problem being that there is no easy way to back up Notes, so when there's a sync problem, there's no way of accessing them. Pages saved to iCloud can easily be backed up and it's perfect for my needs: not as complicated as MS Word, more functions than Notes (more functions than any of the third party apps), easy to back up, etc. Using Shortcuts means it's possible to have a decent menu system which acts as a substitute for tags and Smart Folders in Notes. The point is: thank you Gary for all these excellent videos, they're really helping me understand the best ways for my use of Pages. Along with all your other Mac videos, of course!

    Thank you, Gary. Your instructions are second to none! I’ve written two novels and am writing a third with you making the process easier from a document management perspective. Pages is an elegant and powerful word processor for novelists.

    This is a really helpful video. I've moved to Pages from Word - something I used for many years for business and personal documents. Pages isn't an intuitive for me as Word was but I'm getting there. What you've done here is pulled together a whole bunch of tips that will enable me to use Pages far better than I do now. Many thanks.

    Honestly, as a loyal Mac user for nearly 20 years fumbling through photoshop and Indesign, finders many windows and settings, attempting Xcode.. and I didn’t even understand the basic concept of windows and keyboard shortcuts…and Mission Control!! you name it Gary made me passionate to learn my massive iMacs I have always insisted on but never actually utilised. just don’t even bother finding other channels now. Gary for Mac and Dan from ‘bring your own laptop’ for adobe. Life sorted. Gary you deserve millions of followers and hope your paid by apple to put these out because everyone else doesn’t even compare

    At 78, I'm proud to say I was on the PageMaker engineering team as Adobe bought Aldus. It was retaliation for Quark's theft from Adobe in a devious way, then ridiculed Adobe for their weak defense. Once Quark was buried by destroying all Printer Description Files via Adobe's Copyrighted PDF format, PageMaker was shelved. The return of Jobs to run Apple led him to Adobe for help. Adobe gave him PageMaker and he made it Pages.

    Thanks, Gary. Another great ELI5 'how to'. I've used Pages for decades but I've never dug much past the act of simply typing in what I need. I feel like I'm 6 now. Except I'm almost 70. If I had a nickel for every minute I've wasted manually setting up my Pages documents... well, all I know is I'd have a ton of nickels. Thanks, again.

    Solid advice, Gary. I use Pages for literally everything except spreadsheets. It has come a long way through many updates, so much so that I don’t even do the start-with-notes dance anymore. Pages is a standout app from Apple, almost never closed on any of my devices.
    One feature I would welcome would make all the settings changes - and there are many - needed to instantly toggle between white text on dark background and the opposite. The change is so arduous I can’t keep the perspective to choose.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you mean for the whole document? You can just create a template for that and use the template when you want it.

    • @artysanmobile
      @artysanmobile 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@macmost What I mean is the ability to toggle a finished document between white background and black background, to decide which suits my mood. I am not talking about making that decision at the start. There is quite a number of settings that need changing to accomplish that on a completed document. Every style used on a black background needs changing. It’s quite a chore and I want instant results - back and forth.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@artysanmobile If it is just for reading, I suppose you can quickly select all, change the color to white, then change the background color to black. If you aren't writing, just reading, maybe exporting as an ePub and reading it in the Books app would work. Never tried that.

    • @artysanmobile
      @artysanmobile 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@macmost That’s WAY too much work. I want an A/B switch. And also, try it sometime. You’ll be surprised how many issues come up that are way beyond selection and swapping colors. It’s really a mess.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Always great info, Gary. One thing I really loathe about Pages is Sharing and Collaborating Pages prompts to move the document to the Cloud.. Sometimes it opens the Cloud. Not always. But what is always does NOT do is actually move the document. I have also found that sometimes, not always. the shared document has a number appended to it. e.g. MyGreatBook becomes MyGreatBook 2, or 3 and so on. And Styles cannot be added to a shared document. I have reported this to Apple but no action has been taken.
