I have also cut down bushes and small trees like you and was happy about the result but a few years later they were all back again.......... So now we get help from a farmer who comes with a tractor to dig up the roots.

Sabrina is a doll ... "no hanky panky on my property". I love that you needle felted all your holiday decorations using Arcaia (spelling?). I also needle felt little figures. So glad your Dad and his family came for a visit.
Hint for removing ivy : take your loppers, seceteurs or sharp implement and go around the bottom of the walls and cut as close to the ground as possible. Then wait. When the ivy had died and dried off, it's easy to pull off and burn. Spray the roots with herbicide to kill it off for good. Nothing good ever comes from growing ivy. Merry Christmas xx
Avoid any chemicals. Not necessary. Ivy is excellent for pollinators, flowering in late autumn. So please allow it to grow where it won't damage buildings. Up trees, or as ground cover, for example.
If you burn the ivy...make sure it doesn't havevany poison ivy in it...when burning do not inhale the smoke..my husband did and became very sick from the fumes off the poison ivy..
Let it dry out on powdery damaged walls you will cause very little damage when you pull it down as it has released its grip by then ,ivy is a good plant for nature ,bees,hibernating insects and flower arrangers but not masonry and roofs where massive damage will be caused by it's expanding growth.

We have had an unusual weather event here in the states with below normal temps. In the northern states it’s a disaster with 25 deaths due to freezing temps and loss of power and some stranded in cars. Here in north Georgia our lows have been in the single digits which doesn’t happen. Some water issues due to frozen pipes, luckily I was spared of any trouble. Hopefully you all are warm in the chateau and enjoying your sweet family.
From one California transplant to another... I inherited and relocated to Michigan and thought it was a culture shock from San Diego to country living... Your journey seems to be magical!! Another country and so very close to Paris!! What a wonderful adventure you have in front of you enjoy it all and I love that you share it all!!!!
