It amazes me that so many rc companies get away with these wild speed claims. Whatever happened to false advertising. The led grow light industry is exactly like the rc industry. I will stick to my arrma rigs. Thanks, but no thanks, Traxass.
One of the big reasons I switched to Arrma for my RTRs was Traxxas seems to only build their machines to do wheelies and that's about it. They've seemed to favor thicker oil in the center diff so it can wheelie harder and easier. Arrma's stuff is just meant to be more drivable in general and favor all around performance over "bro can it wheelie tho?"
So we're just rounding $699 up to $1,000 like it's normal? It's not almost $1,000. It's quite literally $699. Arrma's closest competitive vehicle, the Mojave 6s, is $629. This is exactly par for the course.
Had a few Traxxas cars that are difficult to get to advertised speed, but was very happy to get my stock X0-1 to 105mph, all I did was tighten the rear shock collars all the way down
I got mine last week shes not fast, in my opinion shes a 4s truck handles nice, i got 37mph on 4s and 46 on 6s on short grass, so maybe a bit more on the road, i like the truck but costs way too much.
Hmmm? Did you install the speed gearing? That's how you'll get closer to the MPH claims that Traxxas prints on the box. Even then, it's hard to get the average Traxxas vehicle to reach the top speed Traxxas claims. 🙄
That clicking on the shocks is a major design flaw with the Max Slash. I noticed it when I was looking at it in my local store. They all do it. As for the gearing, i'm sat on that perch next to you mate. How can they claim something when they can't back it up when they don't sell the bits required? Surely Trading Standards should be showing an interest? How do they get away with it?
I’ve bought traxxas over 20yrs…. But the last 10 I’ve bought barely any because of the proprietary attempts and the prices so high compared to what’s proven to be other better quality and priced companies. This looks great for about $550. I’ve held one in hand. Not for over $700.
I upset Traxxas last month when I got mine. I got 60 stock out of it but that 70 took an Arrma pinion gear. I pointed it out to Traxxas and they didnt wanna talk to me. lol Also takes a weight in the nose to keep the thing down. Its good to 65ish but parachutes after that. I took the body off and it did 75 with ease but I felt that was cheating. Thanks for the great videos Phil!
Fantastic ride and review, Phil!!! 😃 I wonder if that's why the front suspension was sooo low... It should help with the flying tendencies. 🤔 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
As much as I LIKE Traxxas cars, I think you ARE being completely fair and are sharing and handling the Traxxas claims the right way. All companies should be held accountable for their claims. Especially when it’s used to promote / sell a product. Kudos to you and great video! Cheers my friend and keep it up!
At least Tomley got the 3S and 4S box speeds but 6S was only done without the body on which he gained 3MPH. Then again, he did say his battery was near the end at that point so this was a pretty decent example. My 1/10th Scale Slash, X-Maxx 8S and UDR ALL STOCK and using their speed gearing (N/A for UDR) did NOT do the max MPH printed on the box. I eventually got my stock Slash to 30+MPH but it took perfect conditions and using a brand new stock Traxxas 550 motor (broken in using the water method which makes it faster) to get 32MPH and even then, I hit that a couple of times and never again. That's been my experience with Traxxas but I LOVE my X-Maxx & UDR for bashing! LOVE those vehicles, especially my X-Maxx 8S! 😎
Not big ones just small ones....I did it my 2wd torment/ruckus after it kept doing and it stopped....even in headwinds ...acts like down force at same time without hindering performance
I came here to say Traxxas is the worst rc company in the game. Sure they bring new people to the hobby their unwillingness to work with the RC community is ridiculous.
All plastic parts for $700 ($946 in the UK) and it can’t do anything close to 70mph(with Traxxas gears)! Why would anyone buy this SCT that can’t drive like an SCT when both the 4s and 6s Mojave’s are available for less money? Traxx-Ass is run by Suits not true RC enthusiasts! All for the money grab!
I really want a large RC trophy truck like the 1/7 ARRMA Mojave or a Traxxas would be fine too I guess. They're my favorite to watch. Your little panel van is actually kinda rad.
yes, yes they are. but... they make some great cars and my local hobby shop has all the spares and rpm bits on the shelf for cheap. i have a few of their cars and i love them. fun and fixable easy and cheap. they are the GM of rc
Traxxax is smart they provide a easily layout gear chart that noobs can even understand. And best of all for them they claim no liability for 70mph as they do not provide or make the gearing for thoes speeds. This is cool in a way because Traxxas is acknowledging that is ok for custormers to run aftermarket parts.
Nice review Phil. Over all it looks like a pretty good truck. Probably overpriced as most Traxxas stuff is, but should do what it is meant to do. I already have a Slash though....
It really doesn't tho. It was in its element here. On anything besides pavement it's bad. The suspension works like a small cheap Amazon car. It bottoms out from accelerating and braking, much less jumps. It doesn't do sct stuff good at all.
This truck is great on flat pavement under 50 mph. On other surfaces it's crap. It's handling is crap on grass, it's not good on dirt and the suspension sucks everywhere. If you want this truck but haven't bought it i recommend a 6s or 4s Mojave instead. You'll save money and have a better handling, better jumping, better landing, faster(6s, 4s is about the same) truck. This truck should be called the Traxxas at least it's tough. That's the only decent thing about it. If durable is all you care about then you'll love it. Folks wanting to do RC stuff who've drove a good sct will be disappointed.
The Biggest thing I dont like about Traxxas and them being like Apple, being Proprietary. One of the Fun things about the hobby is being able to make your Car your own. Thats why The other Brands make Standard size steering servos and use Standard type Battery Plugs, so People Have choices. The Average person who is just getting a car for the first time Has to buy all Taxxas stuff to get going. And After 5 mins, they will need the upgraded Garbage Traxxas steering servo, or adaptor to buy a good servo.. They make cool cars, but are dropping the ball in that department.
If you adjust the rear suspension higher in the front suspension lower it should help it from parachuting at high speeds quite a bit and as far as the gear mesh system they have I tried using their suggested slots on the Udi because the pinion mesh is the same way you have them stupid little pins that have to be put into a certain hole well I just took my pins out and did the mesh by ear and eyes
HOW MUCH….for that P.O.S with plastic gears ?! 🤣😂 yeah righto…good luck Traxxas is all I can say 🤦🏼♂️ Before you pulled out the Senton Phil my thought’s were “give me a Senton any day” rather than this junk ! For £759 here in the UK you can buy an FTX DR8 that’ll easily do 60mph (you proved it) and a Team Associated Pro4 SC10 and still have £100 left to spare on upgrades etc !!! Yes they won’t do 70mph without serious mods but who cares when you’ve got twice the fun anyway 😝😎👌🏻
Nothing that traxxas ever made matches the speed they say. After you connect batteries to it it has no warranty. Not even the X01, it us unstable, spins out and doesn't even come close to Arrma road cars, unless you put a brick on the front of it. The electronics will burn out in less than 6 months if your running it. Traxxas sell great looking JONK!!!!!
No cause if you read the fine print it will say something like “with our extra gearing and larger power pack it can achieve x amount of speed” That’s its max speed with top gearing and larger battery!
Maybe the stock damper settings coulda worked for the speed stuff, being nosedown with some higher rake angle keeping the wind from getting below it as easy(obviously still lifts the nose, but having less spring assistance). I wonder if the Traxxas testing grounds are in 50% vacuum with a slight decline + wind from the rear. What I do find a bit funny is, if they don't manfacture their own pinions for this, they probably use non traxxas pinions as their testing facilitiies as well 🤣 It does feel a bit odd with a VERY OEM company, not providing the parts. Its like Apple would suddenly not have a charger for some phone, but would accept an offbrand "super charger" etc. Not that getting a non traxxas pinion is much of a issue, but it does seem a bit funny they dont produce one, they could repackage someone elses and put a Traxxas premium on it, easy money.

I got mine last week shes not fast, in my opinion shes a 4s truck handles nice, i got 37mph on 4s and 46 on 6s on short grass, so maybe a bit more on the road, i like the truck but costs way too much.
Yeah, it’s expensive for sure!
Hmmm? Did you install the speed gearing? That's how you'll get closer to the MPH claims that Traxxas prints on the box. Even then, it's hard to get the average Traxxas vehicle to reach the top speed Traxxas claims. 🙄
Take the body off the cage and clip the cage back on the car won’t get parachute effect still have rollover protection
Thank you Phill you and Kevin Talbot are the reason I got into rc’s and I love it looking forward to more content thank you
I think you can realistically achieve about 10 MPH less than traxxas advertises for any given vehicle
Good review Mr tomley honesty is way better than blowing smoke !
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Traxxas is the Apple of the rc world
A lot of people have said that. Do you want a cookie?
I wonder if that's why the front suspension was sooo low... It should help with the flying tendencies. 🤔
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Yeah, it was certainly too low really. Especially if you are going to take it off road
Yeah I’ve got a slash ultimate, always gets hot and shuts off even with a motor heat sink and esc fan. Has been very durable though I’ll give it that
Dry cutting vent holes on the front fenders that will prevent it from parachuting
Not big ones just small ones....I did it my 2wd torment/ruckus after it kept doing and it stopped....even in headwinds ...acts like down force at same time without hindering performance
Tomley you never bore me why would you say that at 10:14 😅
Is this the udr and a slash had a child? Or their cheaper version of a udr. This thing looks like it could really have some crazy street potential.
That’s a special raffle ! Thanks Phil your awesome dude !
That's crazy I remember doing 75 with original chassis slash on 3s years ago 2wd
thats why they come out of the box nose down, otherwise it will just parachute on 4s.
My rustler was boiling hot on stock gearing. Would overhead on stock gearing. 42MPH stock on flat ground.
I came here to say Traxxas is the worst rc company in the game. Sure they bring new people to the hobby their unwillingness to work with the RC community is ridiculous.
🤦
Meanwhile they’re doing things other rc car companies should be doing, but aren’t…
Are traxxas like apple where they expect you to only use their products and accessories?
Is easy money making on a sinking ship perhaps ?
Will it last past 65 seconds during the bash ?
All plastic parts for $700 ($946 in the UK) and it can’t do anything close to 70mph(with Traxxas gears)! Why would anyone buy this SCT that can’t drive like an SCT when both the 4s and 6s Mojave’s are available for less money? Traxx-Ass is run by Suits not true RC enthusiasts! All for the money grab!
I really want a large RC trophy truck like the 1/7 ARRMA Mojave or a Traxxas would be fine too I guess. They're my favorite to watch.
Your little panel van is actually kinda rad.
When I bough my Maxx slash the suspension adjustments were loose which caused that clicking noise
Love your content! However I do think you should switch to bring a Losi fanboy. They make much higher quality cars imho
Would love to see that squash van!
Thought twice about entering the raffle I thought senton spares would be rarer than the tears of a newborn unicorn but I found them almost immediately
I remember those shocks, twas the year of the Queens Silver Jubilee.Well done Trax ass for the commerative shock absorber set.Lol.✌️
yes, yes they are. but... they make some great cars and my local hobby shop has all the spares and rpm bits on the shelf for cheap. i have a few of their cars and i love them. fun and fixable easy and cheap. they are the GM of rc
That Top Gun clip got me 😂😂
Traxxax is smart they provide a easily layout gear chart that noobs can even understand. And best of all for them they claim no liability for 70mph as they do not provide or make the gearing for thoes speeds. This is cool in a way because Traxxas is acknowledging that is ok for custormers to run aftermarket parts.
The parachute effect is a constant annoyance with the 1/10th scale. I guess Traxxas kept that feature.
This is more a 1/8 by dimensions
Nice review Phil. Over all it looks like a pretty good truck. Probably overpriced as most Traxxas stuff is, but should do what it is meant to do. I already have a Slash though....
Yeah, certainly overpriced. I think the Arrma Mojave is better for the money. I’ll cover than in the next video
The pin popping out of the Hub on the front suspension seems to be a pretty common flaw
You are not boring me. I found that tid bit of info helpful. Thankyou Mr.Tomley! Hello from Arkansas, USA!!
😬 you probably shouldn't have given the name of the company that makes the 27 tooth pinion 😬 Traxxas will be sending their legal team after them 🤣
Best looking one I've seen yet, love the green
Painful road rash on a new Rc at 60mph 😮 great vid tho mate 👍🏻
The Biggest thing I dont like about Traxxas and them being like Apple, being Proprietary. One of the Fun things about the hobby is being able to make your Car your own. Thats why The other Brands make Standard size steering servos and use Standard type Battery Plugs, so People Have choices. The Average person who is just getting a car for the first time Has to buy all Taxxas stuff to get going. And After 5 mins, they will need the upgraded Garbage Traxxas steering servo, or adaptor to buy a good servo.. They make cool cars, but are dropping the ball in that department.
My van's bigger 😏
- 2007 Mazda 3 Hatchback
- 44 cubic feet of cargo room (seats down)
If you adjust the rear suspension higher in the front suspension lower it should help it from parachuting at high speeds quite a bit and as far as the gear mesh system they have I tried using their suggested slots on the Udi because the pinion mesh is the same way you have them stupid little pins that have to be put into a certain hole well I just took my pins out and did the mesh by ear and eyes
It took TraxxAss to make this to compete with a 4s Arrma Mojave 😅😅😅😅😅😇😅
No cause if you read the fine print it will say something like “with our extra gearing and larger power pack it can achieve x amount of speed” That’s its max speed with top gearing and larger battery!
I've been really curious to know if them rims and tires will fit a UDR
Try lowering the front suspension back a bit for speed runs to prevent it from lifting off a bit on all cars that have that issue. Vut not too much
I've always stopped short of buying a traxxass just simply down to having to mess around with the battery connectors or buy into their battery system.
