What Happened To C+C Music Factory? | The Lip Syncing Scandal They Tried To Keep Quiet

  • These two weren’t the only ones in the middle of a lip syncing scandal in the early ‘90s. So were C+C Music Factory. The group exploded onto the worldwide music scene with their very first song. Little did fans know, the woman they were seeing on their tv screens in the music video mouthing the words wasn’t actually the one belting out the catchy hook.

Martha has a big drop kicken voice like no other. She has never been accredited for all the work she has accomplished. It was really sad how her voice was used for C&C but wasn't allowed to be in the video. In the end she got everything that was owed to her. I felt really bad for Zelma because she was persuaded and used only for her looks. She knew all along she couldn't sing and didn't have the talent. I guess the spotlight really meant a lot to her to have taken on so much wrong. She wasn't as bad as she seemed because she did admit that she wasn't the one actually singing. In the end she did apologize to Martha about her participation in the role. I knew eventually C&C was going to fall apart because they had too much dirt and scandal under their belts that caught up with them. You can't do wrong and expect for right to follow you. R.I.P. David Cole.

I canceled C+C Music Factory after I found out Zelma lip synced off Martha Wash. So what if Martha is a full figured woman? She's a big beautiful woman with a big soulful voice. The entertainment industry loves to discard people based on their appearance. Then you see young women develop body image insecurities; because all the women on screen are size 4 and they think they need to look like them to feel attractive. Martha Wash deserves her flowers!💐

Their manager or some boss of their's was the one who really messed them over and even tried to start a group called "The Real Milli Vanilli", but that was phony, too. The difference was that they were Americans who knew exactly what they were doing (just for clout). Truly a sad situation.

I think part of the truth is no one ever expected the C&C and Black Box projects to be so massive or ever even be heard beyond the dance/club scene when the records were put together. Ghost vocals were common in that world. Jennifer Lopez also has major hits with ghost vocals...also the Paula Abdul vocal "blending" scandal...some of Phil Spector's girl groups...Milli Vanilli most famously...many of these sort of things through out the history of pop music.

I remember saying to my friends in the clubs back then that it was Martha Wash's voice, so I wasn't surprised one bit when it came out that it actually was. Who did they think they were gonna fool? (Well, I guess they fooled quite a few people, at first.)
