To Milli Vanilli's credit, they could sing, but they couldn't sing in English very well because they weren't from here and didn't know the words well. Their manager or some boss of their's was the one who really messed them over and even tried to start a group called "The Real Milli Vanilli", but that was phony, too. The difference was that they were Americans who knew exactly what they were doing (just for clout). Truly a sad situation.
@@lexkanyima2195 lmao, yes. Auto-tune didn't come out until the late 90s. No one said anything about auto-tune. Let the real singers sing and give them the credit they are due. The truth will always come out in the end.
In the end, karma prevailed: David died before he was 40 (1995), and when Freedom tried to go solo, his career hit the skids. He should be ashamed of himself for still performing shirtless (14:45): he doesn't have the body he had in his 20's, and nobody wants to see that beer belly.
Rebbie Jackson was lipping her vocals towards the end of Centipede in the video years before this too. It happened a lot. I think part of the truth is no one ever expected the C&C and Black Box projects to be so massive or ever even be heard beyond the dance/club scene when the records were put together. Ghost vocals were common in that world. Jennifer Lopez also has major hits with ghost vocals...also the Paula Abdul vocal "blending" scandal...some of Phil Spector's girl groups...Milli Vanilli most famously...many of these sort of things through out the history of pop music.
: Ironically, Martha Wash's vocals are soaring at the end of Rebbie Jackson's 'Centipede'; and that was one of the Music Industry's hot little secrets for decades, too. Martha Wash is just epic! 🔥 Peace and love...

I'm a young old soul too and I've been familiar with this scandal for a while, it's very heavily tied to their name like for instance when you look up the song on Wikipedia, I can understand not knowing if you just hear Everybody Dance Now and not look up the group, but I'm not sure how you missed this if you regularly listen to them lol

It's really horrible how some of the biggest hits of the early 90s are forever marred by stuff like this. Those producers, the label execs (etc) knew exactly what they were doing. It was shameful then & even more so 30+ years later. Martha Wash is & will always be a LEGEND. All that said, three songs I've always felt signaled the 90s have arrived: "Gonna Make You Sweat," "Vogue," & "U Can't Touch This." That trifecta; the way those polished visuals jumped out the screen & that music made you want to get up & dance...UNMATCHED. An Era.
Very well put. I was 18, had just left home and that trio of songs was everywhere. ALL. THE. TIME. As a college freshman just turned legal, i was too, including the first stop of the US leg of Madonna's Blond Ambition world tour. Think "Vogue" was big before?!? Lordy! Good times, indeed!
It's sad that C+C Music Factory couldn't keep going with all the original members, touring from time to time. They were huge in the early '90s and a lot of people would go see them live for the nostalgia factor alone.
Didn’t LL Cool J do something similar in his 1995 video “Doing It”? The featured female artist rapping the second verse on the track did not appear in the video because she didn’t have “the look.” They replaced her with a model lip syncing the words. I’m a huge LL fan, but I always gave him and Def Jam the side eye.
That was unfair what the did to LeShaun though...yes, the rumour is she was pregnant, but there are still ways you can create a scene through a pregnancy. The girl on the video still could have been used, even with LeShaun in the video or performances...

“Shoo dodo dodo dah YEAH” 🤣😂😭
C&C Music Factory's Here We Go (Let's Rock 'n' Roll) also appeared on the compilation album MTV Party to Go Vol. 2!!
Super interesting vid👍🏾 Very much enjoyed. Thanks 🙂
Peace and love...
Martha should have been in their videos instead of that model, but the music industry was all about image over actual talent and sadly, STILL IS!
Well Rosie Gaines has done well for herself as did Patty Austin.... Despite their size.
👍His karma for saying that about her☺️
The model Zelma was also a really good singer too,she had talent. None of this was her fault.
LGTTR is now my favourite channel. These groups are the soundtrack of my childhood.
Mannnnnn, they did Martha DIRTY back then!! I remembered that. I was 19 yrs old when they first came out and was shocked by the lawsuits. Martha deserved better and gotten her justice.
I love these videos so detailed.
Karma baby. They did Martha wrong and denied it. Now Freedom Williams made a business move and Cliviles is mad? Hmmm....
Damn. All this while I had no idea there was a lip synching scandal here. I listen to their music because I'm a young old soul. But I definitely failed to do my research with this one.
@@Jaheartsjonas I don't regularly listen to them like all the time LMFAOOOOOOO. I have 3 of their songs saved on my Spotify list and every now and then I listen to the songs. Obviously I would know the artists that sings the songs but that doesn't mean I always Google them unless I'm like really bored or have time to do that. And I'm just being honest here. I was definitely NOT aware of this.
@@Jaheartsjonas Just like how I grew up listening to Milli Vanillis "Girl You Know It's True" on a station that plays 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s and today's music, but it wasn't until like 2016 when I watched an episode of Oprah's "Where Are They Now"? That I found out that it was a lip synching scandal. I was born in 93 😂😂. I wasn't even born when this was trending. So it shouldn't come as a suprise that I didn't know. Yes, I do my research about old school classics and that's why I'm grateful for docs and channel's like this one that conver these stories so that even the younger generation learns something. 😄
Both C+C Music Factory and Milli Vanilli, are the main reasons why people are aware of inappropriate lip syncing.
@@TASconfidential yup. That I know.
I am hoping Martha is making millions and millions from those terrific songs since they are mega hits because of HER voice.
I love the tidbits you always put in your videos!
Till y’all do right by Martha, everything C + C gone do gonna crumble! Period. ✌🏾
Lol...
Lmfao. U need to stop. Got me pissing on myself
I'm reading your post, but hearing these words spoken by Miss Celie. 😂
Zelma is so pretty. She embodied the fabulousity of that era.
Zelma’s daughter is Rainbow on Mixedish
When I was little, my dad was a engineer at a Marriott hotel. He saw the group coming back from performing. He told me Freedom's ponytail was fake and they were all high lol.
wow, does the picture at 6:45 ring any bells lol?
🤣
My mom and I used to listen to their last album and I didn’t know until a couple years ago about the scandal but I still listen to them, especially their last album when Martha was a full time member
Can't wait for the What Happened to Black Box story!!
I know I hope they got sued too they did her equally dirty
I know I hope they got sued too they did her equally dirty
Add Ace of Base. Curious about them as well. 🤔
Loletta Holloway will be watching also!
@@danavixen6274 Ace of Base sings for real. I’ve heard them live.
If you make a deep search you will find out that most Eurodance singers weren’t the real singer, just like Boney M and Milly Vanilly.
“Going To Make You Sweat” is my favorite song. Enough said.
@@fedoramcclaren4294 I agree they could have filmed facial closeups around her pregnancy. Hollyweird does this all the time.
@@williams.matthews2711 They sure do!!! All of these excuses people make based on a person not being "marketable"...
@@fedoramcclaren4294 No kidding! Many artists like ABBA (Agnetha was pregnant at the time of the Name of the Game video), Lauryn Hill and that backup singer (forgot her name, but both were 6 months pregnant at the time of the That Thing video), Donna Summer (pregnant when she filmed her Love is in Control video) and Chrissie Hynde (pregnant at the time of the Back On The Chain Gang video) have done so and there were no issues! Lord.
Finally a story on C&C Music Factory!!
Lip sync scandals finished careers of many singers but for some reason nothing happened to Jennifer Lopez.
Wait what?
She’s got privilege
I don't follow.
@@davidl570 she dated puffy and used that to get songs from other artists.also Tommy Motala ( Sony president) got music for meant from Mariah and gave her those songs . Irv gotti used Ashanti’s vocals and gave them to JLO. Jlo got songs and vocals from Ashanti , Christina milian and chante moore .
Jlo had Allies in very big positions that helped her career .
@@Katkayz Dang, didn't know any of that! Thanks for the info--I now dislike J-Lo even more.
Giving props to Sylvester who discovered Martha and didn't give a damn about her weight...
Sylvester was too real for the industry , I hear
Martha was right to sue, having said that I still feel bad for Zelma. Hell, I feel bad for Milli Vanilli. The music industry is a dirty business.
Have you seen what Dave Chappelle said about the industry is a monster? He can not call his show the DC show because others own the name in perpetuity and throughout the universe. Scammers, All of them
I’m side eyeing the entire group they seemed to be ok with doing Martha wrong including the girl singer
C+C Music Factory didn't die because of the scandal. It died the minute David Cole died. That doesn't deny the fact that Martha Wash has one of the greatest and most unappreciated voices of that era. Nevertheless....
Man the remix to take a toke w patra will forever be a jam and Boricua anthem is a classic to this day 🙌🏽…I did a dance w my cousins to gonna make u sweat 🤣🤣🤣
I’m surprise the music industry haven’t paid a tribute to Martha Wash.
Lol..I remember that awards show when she tried to show her vocals. She made it worse... Bla bla bla.
Ms. Martha Wash is beautiful 🤩. Shame on them
Their song "Keep it Coming"in the intro to Buffy The Vampire Slayer
goes to show you, no matter how cool you may be with some people, get that ish in writing. I also thought it was interesting in CB4 how they put that easter egg in the Wacky D music vid
Come and pet the...
BTW if you listen to the Album Version of "Things That Make You Go Hmmm" you can DISTINCTLY hear Martha Wash. But the Video Version they either turned down her vocals (you can hear her voice near the end of the video) or they Re-Recorded the VOCAL track with Zelma Davis.
Even Janet ain’t trying to hear C.’s bull$hit.
Lawsuit happy or no, she has the right to sue if they are using her work without paying her.
Yeah C+C was hot until I saw this skinny sister lip-syncing with Queen Martha Wash's voice...then the disrespect about her being a BBW, no more support from me.
I remember All of this happening in real time. I just didn't have All these extra details. Blatantly Shocking! 😳💯
I'd like to know who in their right mind did not know it was Martha Wash's vocals on Gonna Make You Sweat? And on the Back Box joints?
Martha has a beautiful smile! Her body wasn’t any problem to me. Her smile should have been in the video at the very least.
That last picture of Freedom tho ? 😂😂❤️❤️😂
Yeah, we really DIDN'T need to see that! Sheesh.
