What Happened To R&B Singer Mýa?

  • From an early age, Mya had it. She could dance, she could sing and it didn’t hurt that she was also easy on the eyes. Even though she’d end up launching her music career during a time period where she’d be competing with numerous other R&B divas, Mya still stood out and held her own. Her journey though wasn’t without its trials and tribulations from her battle with schoolyard bullies to her record company’s shady tactics to rumors about her bedroom escapades with various men in the industry. Through it all, Mya chose to stay the course, fight for what she wanted and be true to herself.

Lady Gaga and Madonna, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, etc. Black people don't just compare; they tear their own apart: facial features, skin tone, hair texture, body type. Idk why y'all make these comments saying "white people don't get compared with each other" which is a damn lie. I love Ms. Mýa. I was obsessed w/ her debut LP. _Don't Be Afraid_ ended up being my favorite cut. _Anytime You Want Me_ is another favorite because there are certain nostalgic noises during the first 5 seconds that just takes me right on back to the 8th grade. I remember buying the first pressing w/o the _Movin' On_ remix feat. Silkk the Shocker and then I turned right around and bought the second pressing w/ the remix. I bought every magazine she was featured in, I'd do my hair like hers and I'd go to Charlotte Russe to find duplicates of her outfits (as close as I could). She's basically like a big sister to me. From her sophomore LP, _Now or Never_ ended up being my favorite cut. After 2003's _Moodring,_ (shrugs shoulders) Basically, I went through a long period of not checkin' for her. I've avoided saying this, but I believe Mýa was ambushed and sabotaged by her label. Soon as she started asking questions and basically standing up for herself, a number of shady things started happening. I do not believe that her label "accidentally" leaked/released her _Liberation_ LP. I believe they had it out for her, internally and needed a reason to sabotage her effort. I also believe that they ambushed her w/ several rappers. All of that unnecessary stress and overwhelm accumulated drama which led to the rollout of her getting shelved. They knew what they were doing. I never bought the "accidental" nonsense. The mid to late aughts was a tricky period because free music downloads were at an all time high and labels were merging and laying folks off left & right. Anyway, I watch Mýa lives here on TH-cam and we have so much in common. I found out that she quit drinking soda around the same time that I quit drinking soda (1998/1999). Oh my God! Like I haven't had a soda in 24 years. It just dawned on me. I also found out that she used to read LP credits and say, "Who is Debra Killings? I like her." I did & said the exact same thing. We like and feel the same way about R&B music. I never had a friend who liked music, overall, the way I did. I've always been kinda extreme, but hey...it's all good. Anyway, once I started checkin' for Mýa again, I was able to catch up on the music that I missed. I'm all caught up nah and her more recent efforts are dope. _Space and Time, Ready For Whatever_ and _You Got Me_ are a few of my favorites. Creating and handling music independently seems like a huge burden nowadays. If it's too much for Mýa then I think she should leave it alone and explore other options. Ms. India Arie recently went on record and revealed that she was basically grinding it out and not receiving the return that she deserved. Great video, Sis.

@@AmoMe2009 Og my God! Thank yuuur! It's a corporate decision though. They decide on who's gon be in the limelight and how long they gon be in the limelight. After that 3 - 5 year mark, they either sabotage artists or simply phase them out in order to make room for the next wave of artists. Think about it. Bobby Brown was the man during the late '80s and then when R. Kelly came around, they phase Bobby out. Dru Hill replaced Jodeci. 112 replaced Soul For Real. That's just the way it goes. Labels don't care because they figure the audience will get over it and move right on to the next one. Who sat in they room, in a corner, crying because Soul For Real wasn't poppin' no more? Just sayin'...

Here in Australia,I work for a pharmaceutical company called Chemist Warehouse.
A few years ago we had an end of year staff party with at least 1000 people from all departments in attendance.
In the middle of the DJs routine,he stopped the music & introduced a special guest,& guess who it was?
That's right! None other than MYA!!!!!
How in the hell did our company get her to perform her 45min set for us?
I wasn't complaining & it was a treat no doubt.
Got to shake her hand after as well as a photo with her!
    She was pregnant too
Was the most unsuspecting moment as I thought I would never see or meet her ever in my life, yet here she was at my work function!
    Still a highlight!
    She still got it too!
    Made the night perfect!

Every human being that made her feel less than or LIED on her will pay on the other side. She will continue to rise as she is now. Many in the music industry are low vibrational. The sheeps (fans) who listen to that jazz are no better either. God and universe is riding for her.

Always happy to see another Marylander doing great in life to this day always been a fan of hers, especially songs like Movin On, it's all about me, and my favorite Fallin'(the song is great, especially using the Pharcyde's Runnin' as an instrumental was just brilliant).
