The fact that she co-wrote and recorded Once Upon a Time in 2-3 days still blows my mind. And, I Love You is in my top five favorites of all time. She was amazing.
Agree 100%. Donna was asked by Dan Fogelberg's wife after he died to sing his song Nether Lands on their tribute album. Donna was dying, but went into the studio and recorded the song in one take. Incredible!
Donna Summer what a GREAT singer-entertainer-performer - I’m so thankful for her music that got us up & onto the dance floors - everywhere. My favorite song-album is 1975s “Love to Love You Baby” it was her 2nd and her 1st to be released internationally and in the USA, her 1st album “Lady of the Night” was only released in the Netherlands. And the rest is history… ❤❤❤ …she’s so beautiful…
I wish I would have seen her in concert. Beautiful person with one the classic and timeless voices ever. She will and her music will live on forever ❤❤
The Queen of Disco!! 👑💃 Some songs would surely be in the lineup at the the all night skates. Great Music and Good Times! May you rest in peace 🕊 Donna Summer! Happy Monday... thank you for sharing! 💖
Being a professional acoustic drummer for many moons I never missed an episode of this show and I will always love Donna Summer in the loving name of Jesus Christ.
Amen! And are you near enough to be at Donna Summer’s Birthday Roller Disco at Boston City Hall Plaza this Week?!?!? I hope and pray. The whole family comes out and sings. 🙏🏻
Wow....Never seen before. And this was live folks!! Saw her many times. Her voice never betrayed her in concert. She sounded just like if not better than her records which were wonderful. Love this woman to infinity inside and out!!! ❤👑
I was a white 16 year old in Dallas when I fell in love with her...I bought all of her albums...and would look at her pictures on the covers...my heart would hurt because I knew I would never be with her or even meet her...The day she passed away, I cried bawling...
One of my favorite Donna Sumner songs! From a concept album that is very underrated - Once Upon a Time is the sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter Donna Summer. It was released on October 31, 1977, and peaked at No. 26 on the US Billboard 200,[1] number thirteen on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart[1] and No. 24 on the UK Albums Chart.[2] The entire album charted as one entry at No. 1 on the Hot Dance/Disco chart. Once Upon a Time includes the singles "I Love You", "Fairy Tale High", "Once Upon a Time" and "Rumour Has It". The album did not spawn a hit single as popular as "I Feel Love".
Always felt it was meant for Broadway. She wanted to write a musical and she already had one. Wouldn't you loved to have been invited to that Disco Ball? Yet, Love's unkind. Sigh.
Absolutely perfect!! This is new to me (and I've been a Donna fan since the 70's). Brings back sooo many sweet memories. Thank you Midnight Special for being there!!
The "Once Upon A Time" era of her career is my favorite. The BPM for this live version is much higher than the recorded version. Almost turns it into a rock song instead of disco. I prefer the original version, but anything by DS is amazing.
I vaguely remember Donna Summer being on “American Idol” just before she died. I think she wasn’t performing much at that point but she could still sing. Anyways I guess she lived in Naples, FL. That is one ritzy town. I’ve been there once and there’s a great beach there. But the “poor” people in Naples have a net worth around 10 million.
The album this is from, Once Upon a Time, never seemed to get the acknowledgement it deserved. It didn't break the top 20 in either the USA or UK and yet it has some of Donna's best work. I get the impression that the absolutely manic recording schedule Donna had with Giorgio Moroder was somewhat to blame. She released 4 albums in two years and it feels like "Once Upon a Time" wasn't given time to breathe with the public: it was caught between "I Remember Yesterday" and "Live and More".
Right around 1:30 the backup singers are really quiet. I had to look up the definition and I think it’s called “pianissimo” but I’m no music expert. I can’t recall another song where the volume drops in a song this much. It’s interesting as it’s almost opposite of a usual chorus. (Her backing musicians are surely no slouches. They’re really good across the board.)
I think those are her sisters on background. U can't beat that sibling harmony a la The Clark Sisters. They know each other's voices from childhood and blend so well together. Glad Donna took her sisters on the road with her as background singers for most of her career. ❤
Such effortless vocals from Miss Summer. RIP

I think she mentioned how she was hospitalised with exhaustion afterwards
Recording is very easy if you have the perfect pitch of this woman … every her live performance sound like a record!
One of the greats of our generation. Pure effortless talent.
One of her biggest UK hits yet almost forgotten today- a terrific live vocal- effortless!
Live. All of it. Every note. Man, the world didn't know how great they had it. Donna was one in a million!
Wow that's what I call a PERFECT PERFORMANCE!!!
Donna Summer was the real deal. She could take any song and make it a hit. Rest my Queen 💖. I Love You too
Oh my, Donna, you were a light in the universe.
I’ll never forget when I first heard MacArthur Park. Still have all her vinyls. She was the Queen of Disco. 😊
What an enormous talented performer Donna was.
I simply loved Donna Summer so much and was so lucky to see her live in Windsor Ontario before she left us! Thank you for the treat!❤❤❤
Donna Summer is and will always be the soul queen of disco and the 70's.
Such a talent!

Just heard this on my radio for the first time in 30+ years and realized I forgot about this gem!
Wow....Never seen before. And this was live folks!! Saw her many times. Her voice never betrayed her in concert. She sounded just like if not better than her records which were wonderful. Love this woman to infinity inside and out!!! ❤👑

Live musicians!!! I love You 💕
Nothing like live musicians ❤

The Queen ❤
Saw and enjoyed Donna at Fiddler’s Green, Denver. One of the most beautiful nights I’ve ever experienced. I fell in love with my wife all over again.
I really still 💕 love you Donna! I'll see you in heaven sis! ❤️
More of Donna Summer please!!
Yeah!
Awesome!
Omg I never seen this thank youuuuu for sharing this! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
You can't have a bad day if you have Donna Summers and bongos!
Absolutely perfect!! This is new to me (and I've been a Donna fan since the 70's). Brings back sooo many sweet memories. Thank you Midnight Special for being there!!
I can’t help but think that this is the devil in disguise with three angels next to her.
Donna Summer was awesome! ❤
An outstanding performance by the undesputed Queen of Disco.

Never seen this before!
Bien algo nuevo ❤❤❤❤
Dear Midnight Special, it'd be cool to add broadcast date in description🤘🏻
💞🎵My FaVoRite Donna Summer Song!😃🎶
Cool ! Thank You ! One Donna performance is missing : A Man Like You from the 24-02-1978 episode. Next ? Thanx in advance...
Drummer locked in 200 BPM .. she's sorely missed 🌹
I miss so much the art and talent of the beautiful Donna, she was unique and so beautiful inside and outside.
I vaguely remember Donna Summer being on “American Idol” just before she died. I think she wasn’t performing much at that point but she could still sing. Anyways I guess she lived in Naples, FL. She was still performing, new album in 2008 and lots of concerts and TV appearances
Thanks for this gem.
Donna singing my favorite song from her. She looks fantastic, but why are her sisters wearing nightgowns?
Lol @3:05

Now that is how you do a live performance. Btw, I do believe that is Jeff Beck on guitar and leading the band.
Wow, why is he there?
@@jacqudace He did a lot of collaborating, With Stevie Wonder for example. Listen to the sound of the guitar clisely on this, sounds like Jeff to me.
@ronrice1931 I listened again, she says Thanks, Jeff, right at the end.

I think you're right about that pianissimo. I agree with you on the band! Excellent musicians!

This is the era before gangsta rap, "anti-racism" and auto-tuning.
Just a great time to be alive.
Hey, man, nothin' wrong with gangsta rap, and certainly not with anti-racism. Get a grip.
@@ronrice1931 "Anti-racism" is racism and gangsta rap destroyed the black communities.
Get a grip.
@@svensvensson2724 "Anti-racism is racism." Cool. I am sure your little admirers find such junk philosophy profound.
@@ronrice1931 It's not philosophy you ignoranmous. Cold fact.
@@ronrice1931 You don't have the slightest clue what you are talking about.
This was a time when people did not work 16-hour days, you could cut off at 5:00 and forget everything about work
is that Jeff Beck on Guitar??
No, he would have been playing a Fender.
It was Mike Warren, her Musical Director for years.
The guitarist looks just like Jeff Beck...
First glance, I thought it was Larry Carlton.
I believe it is.
At the very end you can hear Donna say, "thank you Jeff"
*in the loving name of Allah
