This was a special performance on the Midnight Special. My generation knew how to enjoy the best music 🎶 🎵 ever. Patti LaBelle is phenomenal. She has a fantastic voice. This is an incredible way to watch live music 🎶 🎵 The Midnight Special never seem to disappoint.
Always loved Patti's voice. One of my favorites for sure. The album cut of this is absolutely stellar and you can see it here, how powerful, loud, confident, and silky but striking her voice is. Nothing but respect to and for Ms. Labelle.
My favorite song from Patti and The Ladies is right Here!! 🎉❤🔥 They move so fine!!! 🎉 A friend of mine in HS class of ‘77 had a cute t shirt with the French lyrics on the front. I liked to borrow it and wear it to school, too. It was cool looking and kinda naughty & sassy - ha! Don’t remember if she had it custom made as we had many t shirt shops in Tulsa, OK back then - Ahhh Memories …
...Although Patti LaBelle is known as an R&B Legend, she rarely gets props for her Rock & Disco credits; Labelle (the Group) were covering Rock standards, & meshing 70's "Glam Rock" into R&B....And, "Lady Marmalade" helped Black Female Singers to become the 'Foremothers' of DISCO Music (to white Audiences) (3:20), in 1975.....GO Sister, Soul Sister(s)..... (1:32)
Amazing & electrifying! As only LaBelle could be… The real thing, and absolute trailblazers! This is one group that can’t be put in one genre. They could do (and did do) everything, exceptionally well. This was the early 70s, but these women were writing their own songs, along with arranging very unique vocals. They should be in every Hall of Fame that exists ❤❤❤ I’ll always love Patti, Sarah, and Nona!!!
I remember hearing this growing up.. I was a child but never forgot the lyrics and recognized it years later with the Pink, Mya, lil Kim and Christina remix!! -so fun and sexy.
Love it, so good!❤️🔥 Imagine how hot it was in those 2 Funkadelic-style getups, under those stage lights, while exerting that much intensity & soul! 🤩🥵
That album was a masterpiece, imo. It was released around the time when the girl group Patti LaBelle and The Blue-Belles had become LaBelle. Cindy Birdsong had left the group to join Diana Ross and The Supremes, which left Patti, Sarah Dash, and Nona Hendryx. Laura Nyro was a fan of theirs- and the R&B music of the 50s and 60s. The album “Gonna Take A Miracle” is a collection of cover versions of great 60s music. Some of my favorites on this album include “The Bells”, “I Met Him On A Sunday”, and the title track. However, the entire LP is a stellar work. It’s largely been forgotten, sadly. LaBelle’s vocals are just a preview of what was to come from the group. If you’re a fan of LaBelle’s/ Patti LaBelle and you haven’t listened to it, you’re missing some really great music!
I LOVE Laura Nyro, didn’t know this before thank you! Especially love her songs Wedding Bell Blues, Stoned Soul Picnic & Stoney End what a fantastic musician/singer Laura was - it’s so sad she passed so young at age 49 from ovarian cancer.
@@KittyGrizGriz She’s been one of my favorite artists since I was a kid…many decades ago! I still have all of her albums and I cherish them. Sadly, she’s one of the most underrated artists I know. She is known primarily for her songwriting, which is truly phenomenal. However, she was a childhood prodigy on the piano. Her vocals are as unique as her songwriting. If you haven’t checked out Eli and The Thirteenth Confession, I highly recommend it. Also, New York Tendaberry is a great album. They both have songs that were covered by and hits for other artists/groups. I don’t think she cared that much about commercial success. Imo, she truly deserved it! It was so sad that she was taken from the earth by ovarian cancer. Not long afterward, her partner was diagnosed with , and subsequently died of, ovarian cancer, too. Damned cancer! I have to say that you have very good taste in music 😊 Here you are listening to LaBelle, who were way ahead of their time. So was Laura. Keep on listening!
When my brother graduated from Berklee Patti LaBelle and Pat Metheny handed out the diplomas! Unfortunately.. she was not wearing this outfit. Quel dommage! That woulda been sweet. Happy Monday!
Gotdamn! What a performance. My little smartphone looks and sounds so much better than the black and white ZENITH tv w/ the 3 in. speaker I had to share w/ 7 siblings and parents. Thank you MIDNIGHT SPECIAL...then and now. ✌️❤️
The original and the best! With the one and only Patti LaBelle! Wow! That was spectacular! They were so unique! 🔥🔥🔥🚒💜
La Vel bell drummer ( ? ) last seen playing with Keb Mo ???? Wondering about him 🎶🙏🫡
I remember watching that!!! That was a Great Show!!! Never missed it!!!

Pure 70's juice❤
Band is on point and all three ladies bring their own style and powerhouse vocals. Labelle was ahead of their time!
Burning! Down! The House!! Phenomenal. Nice to see this important performance in good quality, too.

You go... Soul sister!! 💃
Happy Monday... thank you for sharing! 💖
Just saw her last night...is she sure she's 80?? She was incredible! Energetic, beautiful, and sounded great! Truly an icon.
One of the few melds of styles that really appeals to so many, regardless of their preferred musical tastes.
Yes. Soul, mixed with rock, with funk thrown in with a burlesque style on top of that. Just an amazing song even all these years later.

Incendiary. This blew my mind seeing this on the TV in the 70s and it sounds just as mind blowing now. Wow, just WOW!

Excellent.
Sweet stuff. I love the work they did on Laura Nyro’s 1971 album, ‘Gonna Take A Miracle’

Aww thank you for the great album tips!
I’ll have to add them to my collection to play at my “happy place” w/o Wi-Fi.
@@KittyGrizGriz My pleasure, and I hope you spend some quality time in your happy place 😍
Wow, what a performance!
Bravo! Thanks.
My People Carry On! DANG!
Fabulous voice...Great song
I was a mobile DJ for 20 years and pulled this one out of the archives on a regular basis. Disco is the best dance genre by my experience.
Just awesome!❤

That’s fantastic to read!
Haven’t heard the name Pat Metheny in forever, he’s a fabulous jazz musician and good on your bro, too!
Oh my God! 😲 please tell me there’s a photo of that moment!
@@matiasmendez3417 Many many photos! And yesterday at Cal State University Northridge, my brother was hooded in his Masters Degree ceremony!
