Hi Jeffrey, Thank you for creating this channel. I’m 4th generation N American Chinese. I know some Mandarin but I miss hearing Cantonese where I live now compared to growing up in San Francisco. I find it an affectionate sounding language and want to improve. 🙏

Hi, there. I came across a reference to you in another TH-cam video about Cantonese. I am a second generation Canadian. My parents are Chinese. My father is Xinhui and my mother is Toisan. Those are the dialects I first spoke. I then went to Chinese school where I learned Cantonese. Living in Canada, I pretty much just speak English (in my part of the country) and only speak Chinese when I was still living at home. Lately, I've taken a much greater interest in learning Chinese. I have been listening to Chinese songs that I used to listen to a lot when I was a child. I never understood those songs as my Chinese vocabulary was very limited. Now with the help of the Internet and computers (and my mother-in-law who speaks Cantonese) I am able to understand those songs. Translating songs has piqued my interest in learning more Chinese than I already know.
I can speak fluent Cantonese, Xinhui and Toisan, but my vocabulary is very limited. I mostly speak Xinhui with my parents and since I met my wife have spoken more Cantonese with my in-laws. My literacy is also very poor. I did go to Chinese school, but retained very little of what I learned as I did not read much Chinese at all outside of Chinese school. I really want to improve my literacy in reading Chinese. Learning how to sing Chinese songs and translating them has improved my literacy somewhat.
I look forward to watching your channel.

Hi Jeffrey. I found you via Instagram and I was born abroad to Cantonese speaking parents. I don’t use Cantonese on a daily basis, now that I become a parent I would like to learn and understand the linguistics side of Cantonese and pronunciation better so that I can teach my child. I hope this helps, best of luck with your channel and then you for putting in the effort and time. I look forward to seeing more videos.

I also follow your Instagram account and just really want to say thank you for presenting Cantonese, which is slowly being dominated by Mandarin, in just an organized, sleek, and fun way! All the best!!

Jeffrey, thank you so much.... This is great and I appreciate what you are doing. My problem in learning Cantonese is that my wife is a Cantonese speaker - born and raised in HK (Kowloon) - and I have asked her I don't know how many times...during the last 20 years or so.... Hope I do it now!!! Blessings.

Being in Malaysia, I speak M'sian cantonese as a 2nd language, English being my 1st. I am learning calligraphy, online, from a Hongkong teacher residing in the UK...tks to the internet. So I would like to be able to converse in a way he understands 😅. Loving this channel!
