This is pretty cringey. The seal SHOULD be lubricated on the inside edge, and a sealant applied to the outside edge. The seal should be driven evenly all around it's perimeter with either the special factory tool, or something like it which many have made from bits of PVC and steel or aluminum plate. These tools work such that they draw the whole seal in evenly using the flywheel bolt holes in the crank. Having to take everything apart again because the seal leaks sucks, better do it the best as it can be done the first time!
Did you remove the engine is thier anyway to do this with the engine in the car?
