$650/month? That's not struggling. We are a family of 6. I am very careful and spend $60/week aka $240 a month on groceries. Without food stamps. And I am not bashing anyone. We were on food stamps before and I learned how to make food last so we we got off it.

I am disabled and I live on food stamps, and it is not a fun way to live.

Food stamps are only meant to last 3 weeks. It is a supplement not the entire amount that you need. You are supposed to add your own cash each month.

I pay 350 a month in groceries a month for my family of four and I have a husband who works a labor intensive job and have two children who are growing like weeds so what the heck are you buying for 650? Is that including house hold products? And my area isn't cheap to live either so i'm confused as to why a family of 4 would need that much.

I agree with you. $650 is a lot for groceries for 4 people. People must be buying a bunch of pre made items and not cooking from scratch or not buying only items on sale. When we budget really well we can spend as little as $250 per month but we cook from scratch, meal plan, only shop for items on sale and use a grocery list. We also pay cash only for groceries and only take the amount of cash estimated for the items on the list. So we cannot splurge on extra items that are not necessity or on our grocery list. This helps us stay in budget. I work full time so there is no excuse.

$650 per month is brilliant for grocery shopping . We struggle and spend around £45-£50 per week on food

ha! In brazil I live monthly on an average of $100 BRL monthly, that's roughly $35 USD. I'd go to town with a 160 USD food budget.

i make 650 as well in food stamps, but for a family of 7. 4 adults, and 3 children, and let me tell you it's hard. the food doesn't even last 3 weeks, so i begin to struggle on the last week before i receive my food stamps again.

Oh please! My wife and I eat like kings for $360.85/month without even trying, simply by cooking every meal at home from scratch. We regularly have steak, shrimp, wild caught salmon and even lobster a few times a year. SNAP provides $357/month for a household of two so why are folks complaining that they can't get enough food? On top of SNAP they also can get food from local food banks to further stretch their food dollars. The trouble is that I've seen these recipients at the store buying 2 grocery carts full of garbage that's literally more packaging than food. I guess you just can't fix stupid.
