I don't understand his logic. Why go to a drive thru and yell at an employee of a company? They're not the ones that make the policy's or donate to causes. All most employees care about is going to work to get a pay check to pay their bills.
We'll have to agree to disagree. He wasn't speaking out against hate. He was putting hate out into the world. The clerk isn't the one making the rules and deciding how the company donates money. She's there to do her job and bring home a pay check. That's it. He had no reason to do what he did. He wanted to speak out about hate but all he did was put more hate out there. FYI it's not just republicans that are upset about what he did. Do I think it should still follow him this long? Not really. However I also don't think someone who had that kind of a position should have done what he did. He had the resources to handle it completely difference and maybe had he done something different he wouldn't have lost his job and could have affected real change. Freedom of Speech doesn't actually cover Hate Speech. Also something to consider is that when he was hired I bet you he signed something that stated he wouldn't do something that would turn around and look bad for the company. Which this did.
You should re-read what I said. I never said that this should still be following him. I still think it was absolutely the right thing for him to loose his job tho. He wasn't using his head. When your in a position like CFO you not only represent yourself but you represent the company you work for. Which means thinking before you do stuff like this. He didn't and he suffered the consequences. Now does that mean that he should still have an issue finding a job? Maybe, maybe not. We don't know what kind of jobs he's applying for. If all he's interested in is these high-powered jobs then I'm not surprised he hasn't found work yet. Plenty of people have bigger mistakes follow them threw their life. Some peoples mistakes even cost them their lives. In a town just 30 miles from where I live a guy just 21 yrs old was killed in a car accident because he rode with someone who was too drunk to be behind the wheel. Should that one mistake have cost him the chance at life? No. That's just the way it is tho. Whether you or this man feels like it should still be following him the fact is that it is. He will eventually be able to overcome it but until his own drive pushes him to do just that he's going to be stuck. However in the end it was probably a good thing. He actually gets to see his kids grow up. He gets to spend time with them. Had he not lost his job there's a good chance he wouldn't get to do that.
Freedom of Speech doesn't protect someone from loosing their job or having other consequences. It just means that someone has the right to say what they want. That doesn't mean it's always a smart decision to do it or that they won't have to deal with fall out.
David Reid freedom of speech wasn't at issue here. What he did was considered harassment and that's not protected by law. Not to mention he made six figures and the employee made minimum wage. ...what kind of guy does that? be a man and talk to the CEO of the company you have an issue with.
That's ridiculous. He graduated top of his business class. He should know that he's supposed to save 6 months worth of his income incase of a bad situation.
You are not suppose to respond with hateful behavior or actions, she actually did handled it the way you are suppose to. Arguing back is breaking policy, even though a lot of people do it wrong now.
@@Volundur9567virtue signaling over supporting gay marriage was so 2012. If he had waited a decade he could have showed his support for men in dresses reading to kids.
Agreed- but how long does he have to pay for his stupidity? He got another job miles away then sacked after 2 weeks. I'm sure he would have learned his lesson and kept his head down. They should have given him a chance to prove himself it is not like he drove drunk and killed someone.
@Frenchi 111 He was probably just looking for someone to bully. The gay rights thing was probably just a pretext for his bullying so it looked like he wasn't being a bully, but a noble person standing up for what's right.

Nice mentality. You’re the type who caused a company you work for to go out of business by being a shitty employee and than cry foul when you’re unemployed
No matter what you're upset with any company about, NEVER take it out on the person behind the cash register: They have no control over their bosses' behavior, and in fact aren't even allowed to have an opinion about it. They're just trying to make it through another shift.
He acted as if the woman working the drive-thru window actually had any say in her companies policies. As someone who has always been a "worker bee" and has been screamed at (more than once) for stuff I couldn't have changed even if I wanted to, I think he got just what he deserves.
Yeah. I was thinking even if we are living comfortably in some part of the world, let’s say the president or prime ministers go crazy or if there is war. Nothing will matter, no amount of Money, or houses. You have to flee for your life, all you have is your body. Nothing is guaranteed at all. 🤔
He did not learn his lesson, because the wife is the one with a job. So why isn't he working at a fast food restaurant.I think he is still feeling entitled.
You don't regret how you spoke to her, you regret that you got fired because of it. Had you still been employed you would've stood by your every action.
oh foh. The lady that said she'd get AIDS from visiting Africa had no problem landing a similar position. At least one voiced their opinion in favor of the marginalized.
It's funny how people think a young, minimum wage employee has any effect on what the CEO says. She doesn't care. Take your damn chicken and move along hero.
Right or don’t shop there like your buying there products so your supporting them an you don’t have to but that girl probably needed that job while he’s making millions or was
Things to learn from this situation. 1. Learn how to talk to people. The size of your paycheck doesn’t give you the right to treat someone with disrespect. 2. For most people it only takes a couple of mistakes before your the person thats begging for money on the side of the road, or on food stamps, homeless.
The Anti gay and abortion people have done so so much worse and got away with it. In one week Trump gets away with worse. This video was nothing compared to the Westboro Baptist people...
@William Dionicio well it's according the situation, when I was in highschool I worked at a Burger King, and Even though I went and did the owner's landscaping and were friends I never had a clue about his politics. Every situation is different , I guess it's got a lot to do with age and Everything .
@William Dionicio I get where you're coming from, but that's just not the way it is. People on the lower rungs of a company don't represent the politics of the companies that hire them, they're just there to get paid. I'm pretty sure that most people that work at chik fil a probably side with the lgbtq community (a lot of young, college-aged people). It might be the owner's views on the front pages, but rank and file don't necessarily believe those things.
@William Dionicio "A simple example would be, at McDonald’s your employer demands that you smile and be kind, why? Because you are a representative of the company. Therefore wherever you choose to work, you choose to represent." We're talking about different things. You're talking of employees representing the company's interests and general motifs, not necessarily the politics. An example of employees representing a company's politics would be if chik fil a required all their employees to, as a hypothetical example, refuse service to lgbtq because of established religious beliefs, and then the employees went ahead and enforced that policy by refusing service to those people. As an employee of any business entity, you represent that business' image insofar as customer service and general rules of societal politeness go, but politics are a whole different deal. You can work in a job and still retain your own personal political beliefs. It's too much of a blanket statement to say that if you work somewhere you automatically assume their political views as well.
@William Dionicio Not really. People don't work for a company cause they believe in the politics of it. They work there for the pay and benefits. Although I don't agree with chick-fil-a being bigots, if I needed a job and they had an opening, I'd take it in a heartbeat. You'd be surprised how many of the employees may not have a issue with people's sexuality. Some may even be gay themselves without letting the owners know. They are there for the pay and that's it.
There’s literally no way that after making a 6 figure salary he’s immeadiately on food stamps. Don’t feel bad for him at all. He’s now living in the kind of house that everyone else lives in.
@@bighawaii Wrong. Food stamps take into consideration not only your income or lack of income but all of your assets, your family size, your ability or inability to obtain work. There are a few wealthy people I know that get SNAP benefits but it’s because they have cash businesses. And no I don’t support people that milk the system just because they can. This guy likely went through three years of savings and reserves before filing for assistance.
But if we look at the big picture, he tried to stand up against inequality and what he perceived as injustice. He did it the wrong way, of course, and he understands that now....but I find it sad that none of the groups he was supporting, though in an incorrect way, are helping him in any way. If someone has learned their lesson, we should be quick to forgive and not continue beating down on them.
@@clara-fd2ce That's a very good point that I hadn't actually considered. Plenty of people and organized groups out there who share this man's views and yet not a single one offered to help him once the severity and depth of the backlash became apparent. It is a cautionary tale. Before you put a video out there for the whole world to see, you really do need to take a peek around that digital corner and think through the implications of not only what you're saying and how you're saying it, but how it is going to be perceived across the landscape of social media.
@@viking956 It is, however, nice to see Chick-fil-A doing so fabulously well despite all the haters. Dont apologize for working there! You are entitled to work wherever you please and CF is entitled to whatever opinion they have. There are a superb restaurant whom their “bigoted” owners have ran masterfully considering they’re still the most popular spot in town.

I worked in fast food for 9 years and I’ve seen my cashiers in tears, traumatised and reluctant to serve others due to horrible rude or drunk customers. He deserved to be humbled like this.
Never again. I'll be on the street before I put myself through that nightmare again. I have too much self respect to be verbally abused on a daily basis for years just to make ends meet.

The problem is that he essentially bullied a worker at a fast food place, who was probably a minimum wage worker. And who does not have anything to do with the policies of the company. These workers find work where they can get it. I honestly just wish people would stop bullying each other and pushing each other around.

My guess is he is still unemployed because he is only willing to settle for an executive/management position, which no one is going to give him now. He needs to accept he is going to be a worker and not a boss and move on.
+james barca He did mention he shows the chik fil a video at every interview. I mean, he shouldn't hide it but he can at least handle it differently. If he has changed, I would think he could mention that he was asked to leave. Why? Due to a lapse in judgment on social media which has taught me x, y, z (he would have to search deep and find the professional/personal growth, if any, he has gained). Then only go into detail as asked. Everytime he shows the video to a potential employer, it communicates that it is still something he has not come to terms with and his same lack of judgment which led him to berate that chik fil a employee shows up in other ways.
Good, he you lost the livelihood to feed a family of six. What a dumbass. All because he wanted to be a spoiled west coast yuppie with all mouth and no ass. He failed his family. Maybe the next privileged west coast white boy will count his blessings and be more thankful. What a dumbass. #failure

Don't feel bad for this guy. He posted that video thinking he'd get likes and support. This guy has lived such a life of privilege that he literally couldn't conceive of the fact that minimum wage workers have no say in what corporate does. He literally asked the cashier "How do you sleep at night?". Imagine being that out of touch? This guy isn't struggling, in this video of him "on food stamps" he's shopping at expensive grocery stores and buying organic food and free-range chicken. Claims he "can't find a job", he's only applying to CFO six figure jobs. He can find a job, but he just isn't open to looking for ones that are "below him".
Good point. I've been laid off, I took a job well under my qualifications just to have a job until I could find something better. No excuses for him to not to have a job there are plenty out there.
That poor lady at Chick-Fil-A. She looks so innocent, & you can tell he hurt her feelings. I think that’s the kicker for me. You can’t treat an innocent young lady like that. It’s very inappropriate. No sensible company wants to deal with that kind of publicity. Not to mention the drama of having that kind of employee.
I'm pro gay marriage ,but this guy is a jerk. For those of you saying" he was just upset" no, he knew that that woman had nothing to do with the political positions of the company. He was stupid and entitled thinking it would get him a lot of likes. But all people saw was a man berating a women just truing to do her job. He lost everything I think after all that hes learned his lesson.
I am a gay man, and where I don't agree with the CEO of chick fil a views on gay marriage, he is entitled to his own opinion. But this guy going into one of their drive thrus, and harassing a innocent worker, just because of what her boss belives in, has only made himself look bad.
Chick Fil A also pays big fines for their mall locations that refuse to open on Sundays too. I disagree with his taking it out on a hourly fast food employee - why do you think she works there, however; people have done FAR worse and never lost their jobs. If I were him I'd sue for abusive discharge. I guess his big mistake was filming it. Either theres more to this or if we scratched the surface I'll bet we find that company wanted to get rid of him for other reasons and used this as their excuse.
I commend you... I went to the Chick Fil-A by me in North Palm Beach that day... For pretty much everyone there including myself, it was an issue of free speech.. There was a Gay couple there I spoke to, and they came for the same reason... The only folks there I heard voicing any anti-Gay sentiment, were Blacks.... This has always puzzled me, because both Gays & Blacks tend to be on the same side of the political aisle..
I don't think his employer would have cared had he exercised his right and joined one of the peaceful protests outside one of the restaurants, or outside Chick Fil-A company HQ.. He demonstrated that he could not control his emotions, in a very calculated, cruel and unstable manner .... Few business owners want such a personality to reflect on them, or to run their company..

So you think people should have their life / career destroyed over standing up for the rights of gay people? Do you think Rosa Parks should have never gotten a job because she didn't stand up for a white person to sit down? I also heard that there are gays who themselves are employed at Chick Fil-A but yet none of them quit their jobs because of what the CEO said about disagreeing with gay marriage. You still think his cause was decent?. And don't stupidly compare Rosa Parks to what this idiot did because she wasn't harassing anybody by refusing to give up her seat on a bus for a white person (in fact she wasn't the first black woman to do so either) and also don't compare racism with (so-called) homophobia considering that gays are and always have been racist as hell to black people even to black people (gay and straight) who have foolishly defended them all whilst having the nerve to complain about discrimination. If he had a problem with what the CEO said about "gay marriage" then he should have had the balls to go the CEO himself and argue with him or simply just boycott the place.

There are a million other ways he could have "stood up for gay rights" other than harassing a cashier that has zero to do with anything involving the company. This isn't rocket science...
They had to pack up and move a couple thousand miles away, find a place to live, set up house, I'm assuming that took a great chunk of savings. He's also been unemployed for three years with a family--savings doesn't last long there. To top it off, the company revoked his stock options which is typically where most of the benefits, bonuses, and savings lie. So he lost out on all of that money.
For those not from Portland, the grocery store this segment shows him shopping in is called Green Zebra. It's as pricey as Whole Foods, like $6 for a jar of tomato sauce expensive. So those food stamps would go a lot further if he wasn't spending them in yuppie high end food stores 🙄
Wow that is very critical and shows a lack of knowledge of what goes into producing news segments. I doubt he even picked the store. The producers called stores and set it up to get clearance on filming and it probably had to do with what store had the best lighting in their area that they could get the shot of the register from. This dude is clearly broke, the picture of the bridge behind his kids is an IKEA one, and the dude is on unemployment and food stamps and I hope someone in his area reached out after this clip to hire him. It is so so so easy to be critical of how people who are broke spend their money but if they are able to buy any sense of luxury with the small amount of what would be grocery money that food stamps replace then good for them. Being poor SUCKS and this guy clearly learned a huge lesson in humility and desperation. He didn’t pick the stupid grocery store guys.

Individual perspective “C’est la vie” you win some you lose some.
the thing about people is once you receive the taste of a higher pay check you never go back to being lower. The same thing happens at walmart when you move up in the company once you start making huge salaries and you get fired or decide to quit you never want to go back lower you always look for similar or higher paying jobs.
The thing that gets me is that he was so proud of himself and felt that he was doing some great justice by going off on the worker, filming it, and posting it online thinking it would get him lots of cool points. Karma definitely doesn't discriminate.
The real victims here are his wife and kids, who are suffering. That he was hateful to a front-line employee will make any hiring manager wary he would do that again to anyone he deems less than himself.
There was no “front-line worker” at the time. Get off your high horse. The guy can go live in a small town on an honest wage if he wants. He’s only poor cause he still wants to live in a big city. I feel no sympathy for him. Some people change over time but he’s not even sorry.

Had he not lost his job there's a good chance he wouldn't get to do that.
manputty4u There are laws for freedom of speech. what you talking about?
Freedom of Speech doesn't protect someone from loosing their job or having other consequences. It just means that someone has the right to say what they want. That doesn't mean it's always a smart decision to do it or that they won't have to deal with fall out.
David Reid freedom of speech wasn't at issue here. What he did was considered harassment and that's not protected by law. Not to mention he made six figures and the employee made minimum wage. ...what kind of guy does that? be a man and talk to the CEO of the company you have an issue with.

Dude went entirely too far when he jumped on the lady at the drive thru she's not responsible for any of the politics behind her Job.
Therefore wherever you choose to work, you choose to represent."
We're talking about different things.
They are there for the pay and that's it.

as a bi guy, this really upsets me. yeah Chick-fil-A doesn't support gay marriage, but WHY would you harass a random employee about that? that isn't her fault dude 😐 hope she's doing well, sorry she had to go through that
This Country is supposed to be a free Country. People have a right to their beliefs and what they donate too. He obviously doesnt like Chic Filet, a understatement. I'm sure there are plenty of Christians who disagree with his stance. People can agree to disagree, without being ugly. I don't agree with some things my adult children agree with, but I don't treat them ugly and disrespectful.
@@kayjohnson5524 I'm a christian and I agree with chick fil a... we all have our own beliefs. Just like Chappelle said "just cause you dont agree with me (us) doesnt mean you're correct".
Even so people shouldn’t be mad that a company doesn’t support a certain thing, everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.
@@jponz85 At what point did Jesus say go harass the gays for trying to get married? What verse? Also where did Jesus talk about denying medical decisions to their partners? Or how about blood donation? You being a Christian means nothing when it comes to the rights of others. The rights of minorities aren't dependent on whether you agree with them or not. You would think if Christians were truly oppressed they would know that harming slices of the general population is a bad thing.
@@jponz85 What truly bothers you is that you can't outright be bigoted now without being called out on it. I am from the South and gay I know how you all operate. You play victims when you go out of your way to inject yourselves in the private lives of innocent people. And then act offended when people don't roll over letting you walk all over them.
If he had a lick of common sense he would have minded his own business and kept his mouth shut.
It's funny how the people he was "fighting for" didn't help him keep his job or get a new job. He just played himself
Aint nobody told him to stand in solidarity like that.
I thought he was gay too.
I thought the same and this speaks volumes!!!
@@_ruraljuror_ gay and married? Lol
@@_ruraljuror_ why so much hate for the guy, chick fil a IS (this is actually a known fact) anti-gay. So why do you think it's acceptable to hold him to this standard when all he did was get emotional over a company's wrongful agenda?
This is why i mind my own business.
Best type of thinking ever
Yeah irl I try to never talk about politics. Because there are some people who'll actually try to ruin you if you have the wrong opinion.

All those degrees and didn't learn how to behave like a decent person.

Moises Merino, on point!!
👏👏👏
Education and having a lot of degrees doesn't make someone act or be wise. I've met a lot of people that don't have degrees and a lot of education but are wiser and the nicest people.
That's what happens with a lot of these people who have to put every moment of their lives on Facebook and other social media ... sooner or later they say or do something stupid .
I applaud him standing up for his values. Everyone looses with Hatred.
This was an example of an individual on his high horse. Its easy to take a stand for things you believe in. But there is also consequences for actions. Moral be mindful of choices because they will have repercussions either good or bad. Corporate view point terrible decision for him to make stand in that manner. Individual perspective “C’est la vie” you win some you lose some.
He's only sorry because he got fired and lost his lifestyle if he wasn't fired he would have the same attitude.

Exactly..!! Served him right.
Yui, fail.
Sometimes though, it takes a life changing thing to change your attitude.
Wait what did he do the clip didn’t say what he said to the worker
3 years unemployed? Has he even tried to get a job that may be lower paying? Like, ehm... Chick Fil a?
the thing about people is once you receive the taste of a higher pay check you never go back to being lower. The same thing happens at walmart when you move up in the company once you start making huge salaries and you get fired or decide to quit you never want to go back lower you always look for similar or higher paying jobs.
brucetopher sometimes they don’t hire you when you’re over qualified
Ouchhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
Did you really say that ALL chains are racist? Why would you want to come to a country where there are sooo many racists then?
lol
The thing that gets me is that he was so proud of himself and felt that he was doing some great justice by going off on the worker, filming it, and posting it online thinking it would get him lots of cool points. Karma definitely doesn't discriminate.
He could’ve sent an email to the CEO or something.
The real victims here are his wife and kids, who are suffering. That he was hateful to a front-line employee will make any hiring manager wary he would do that again to anyone he deems less than himself.
His family is suffering as the result of his foolishness. No sympathy for him, as I said, but for his family. They didn't do this.
There was no “front-line worker” at the time. Get off your high horse. The guy can go live in a small town on an honest wage if he wants. He’s only poor cause he still wants to live in a big city. I feel no sympathy for him. Some people change over time but he’s not even sorry.
The front-line employee was the person he berated at Chick-Fil-A. For the 3rd time, I have no sympathy for the man, only for his family, as they're paying for his sins.
@Lasna34 Exactly, she can work. It seems he carried the family for the first part of the marriage now it's her turn. If my husband loses his job I'll have to get another job and he would have to lower his job expectations.
@@RobespierreThePoof And what exactly did his kids not to deserve it?
He doesn't seem slightly humbled. He deserves his plight.
She was respectful in his disagreement
A CFO should know better than to berate a minimum wage employee.
but he didn't and that's why he got fired. nothing to do with the content
How do u know how much she makes? There are ppl who work in fast food who make more money than u.
Or any employee. A lot people out there think Gordon Ramsey is some kind of management guru for berating those beneath his alleged stature .
Those kids are more fun than working at a job anyway.
Oh, the irony! 😂😂 He say to the lady: "I can't stand the hate!" And yet he's fully, totally hating on her! (And she's an employee!)
When I saw the look on the young cashier's face I stopped feeling sorry for him.
I never started feeling sorry 4 him none of the staff said anything they were just working earning money for there families, yea homophobic rhetoric is just wrong but again the staff there didn't say it so just stop going to the places and shops whose corporate views u disagree with, it's a lot harder to have principles wen u need a job

The way he filmed his kids giving away things was petulant. Welcome to the real world friend, you aren’t teaching your kids how to cope very well!
Ex CFO receiving food stamps? I've never been on food stamps and I have never had a CFO level job and salary. This dude needs to learn how to save and invest.
