Hideo Kojima stated that he wanted the original battle to mimic a real sniper battle, talking up to 2 or 3 weeks in game time, but due to the tech and limitations it was impossible, and my battle Fastest: 120 minutes ( I was timed by my friend) Slowest (Also first time): 8 hours (hours Also with all nighter)
The End is probably one of the best boss fights ever. Not only is it fun and challenging, it also has the best atmosphere, and the tension. Dear God, the tension. Whenever I lost track of him, I freaked out, to the point where I shot at anything that moved for fear that he was right in front of me. There are few games out there that can inspire such a feeling of genuine terror. It's awesome.
I suddenly wish I hadn't found that pair of heat vision goggles before the fight. I beat him in forty-five minutes, no-prob. Albeit, that was still a pretty cool battle.
gingervampireFTW I know, right?! There is so much detail put into it, and it is such a huge, long game of cat and mouse. Overall, I would say it is probably my favorite boss fight of all time in a game.
I liked mgs 2 cuz i beat mgs 1 multiple times when it was released. And seeing how u can shoot individual bottles off a bar was mindblowing lol . It was great for its time.
I didn't get into MGS until Phantom Pain came out, but after that I got the HD collection and I have to say that Snake Eater is my favorite one of them so far. I'd probably put it in my top 5 favorite games that I've played. If it wasn't for Jeremy's review of Phantom Pain I might not have gotten into it in the first place, so thank you, Jeremy, for spreading the legend of the Snakes to the next generation!
+Rasuke11 Take off the nostalgia goggles bro. Maybe the experience when you first played MGS1 is superior to the experience when you first played MGS3. I'll give you that, and I'd maybe even agree. But if you put them side by side today, there's no way MGS1 even compares to MGS3. That's just ridiculous.
Thank you Jeremy! Because of you I bought the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection! Because of you I spent over 50 hours constantly playing Metal Gear Solid! Because of you Metal Gear Solid has jumped to my 2nd favourite series! Because of you I AM NOW A FAN!!!
MGS3 is a pretty good game don't get me wrong but there are flaws to the game. There isn't really a definitive best game ever since everyone has their preferences.
I bought Metal Gear Solid: Legacy for Ps3 for trophy grinding and I fell in love with series. So I ended up buying Metal Gear Acid 1 and 2, Metal Gear Portable Ops, Metal Gear 5: Ground Zero and Metal Gear Rising. Fucking love the series, btw, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater on European is hard as shit, especially not killing anyone!
Do you get Metal Gear 1 and 2 in The Legacy Collection? I was incredibly pissed that Metal Gear 2 never arrived to North America or Europe. Instead we got Snake's Revenge.
This game, Resident Evil 4, and GTA trilogy are the BEST PS2 games ever. I also loved Devil May Cry 3, as well as Hitman Contracts and Hitman Blood Money. Both great.
How could I forget God of War and God of War 2... those games were AMAZING. I'm also a big fan of almost all the "Medal of Honor" games because they're like interactive history lessons.
Josh TL It was fun, but I wouldn't call it exceptional. Just wear thermal goggles, look for the tiniest difference, let him fire to confirm, dodge the round, then fire five shots at him.
@@kieranoreilly1549Also, Ocelot may have or not been Adam, the agent Naked Snake/Big Boss was supposed to meet up with, not Eva. But Eva IS Big Mama from MGS4 though...although she wasn't the agent Naked Snake was supposed to meet with, but she does eventually get swayed to his side, probably because of his magical eyepatch, but who knows? Or maybe because Big Boss wasn't really that bad of a guy after all? Who knows? But Ocelot was definitely working for someone else, but things are revealed at the end of Snake Eater, about Ocelot, about Eva, about why The Boss REALLY defects to the Soviet Union, but could never really tell Jack/Big Boss why she did what she did, and why Big Boss doesn't accept his nickname "Big Boss", until later down the line in the series. Because he believed that nobody was above The Boss, and that she was the greatest soldier ever, so that's why Naked Snake never really accepts his code name/nickname of "Big Boss", until later down the line.
Being a mega fan of this series Phantom Pain is my favourite but when I got to playing Snake Eater for the first time I was blown away and it almost topped TPP for me and it probably would have but I just didn’t get to finish it 😭
The entire game progression is about Snake facing off with The Boss, so how can you say "I beat this boss then I think it's the end of the game but then oh there is another boss"? If the game ended at Volgin or the Shagohod fight, the game would seriously suck, and the story would be unfinished. I thought the game was paced perfectly, and yeah the EVA bit is annoying but it's all about that character development. Other than that, good review man, love the outfit XD
You were meant to think of boss as your mother who turned on your country. But as we know the Boss was a double agent who sacrificed herself for america.
+Juan Gaspard It totally was, because then we learn the real names of Naked Snake and Ocelot (John and Adamska) which is a clue for the plot twist that comes after the credits.
Bigdeathy We already knew Big Boss's name, The Boss called him Jack a lot, wich is a diminutive for John, and they could of have easily said his real name in one of the three encounters. That plane scene wasn't necessary.
Snake Eater is my favorite game in the series (and I've been a Metal Gear fan since 1987) and I have to say your review is hands down the greatest review for this masterpiece I've ever seen. I tip my eyepatch to you, sir.

I literally replayed this game about 11 times. It's in my top 3 games, along with Resident Evil 4. This and Peace walker are the best metal gear games ive ever played.
Who else knows what at snake eater is besides me? It's a military commando usually deployed in groups of two one brain and one snake eater. Snake eaters are on the front lines alone cleaning house killin dudes by themselves. They are the lone wolf badass and the brain is their intel. The reason they are called snake eaters is because in the front lines they often have no food and have to eat snakes.
Love the review, but erm.... Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the reason Ocelot was "possessed" by Liquid's arm that he was given psychological therapies to give him Liquid's personality so he could infiltrate the Patriots system and locate Big Boss??
That was after he removed Liquids arm, he couldn't count on the real deal I guess. So he went artificial. The Sorrow connection is the original cause for the possession.
SalmonOfK84 I loved it. The departure from the stealth mechanics was sort of weird, but the gameplay still rocked. To be honest though, if it wasn't an MGS game I wouldn't have played it. The story is basically why I finished it.
MrOplef I don't know. It was far more fluid than previous games, particularly in combat. But that fluidity was lost in a lot of the movement, so it felt kinda unbalanced imo. But I agree, despite the story having some glaring issues (as ***** pointed out), it was still dramatic and intense enough to keep me engaged throughout. XD
MGS - The first one MGS2 - The one with Raiden MGS3 - The best one MGS4 - Nanomachines, son MGS5 - The one Konami Ruined MGS PW - The good one on the PSP MGS: Rising Revengeance - The one with Hack and Slash
Fun fact: On the 3ds remake, you can activate the 3d feature to make the game 3d. However once snake loses his eye, the 3d doesn't work in first person mode...

I swear hideo kojima is one of the greatest storytellers of his generation. the way he built up the universe around solid snake and big boss(two of the greatest characters in any form of media) and managed to wrap up both their stories while tying everything together through multiple games over the past decade and a half is just amazing. im so bummed we will never see what kojima had planned for his silent hills game not only would have most likely been a great game but it wouldve revitalized a franchise that has been dying for a long time. ill be there day one to pick up my copy of death stranding when it comes out. I have 100% faith in kojima and ass long as he is given free reign to do what he wants we are gonna get an amazing new game that will hopefully turn into his next big franchise. fingers crossed I just wanna see kojima continue to bring his genius to video games
bro can you please make a review for Metal Gear solid : peace walker it's the chapter before metal gear solid 4 and the chapter after metal gear solid 3 the story is in between so can you please make one it's okay even if it's old thank you
Such a thought provoking and very engaging story. Perfectly well developed characters. Truly awesome gameplay. It's one of the best PS2 games in history!
tears did happen when I was young yesss i'm tellin myself no you get the fuck back in there tear!!! ... first time where something really made me see and say it truly is all a matter of perspective and made me soo mad they used her great message for a game ahead of it's time
It a never be another boss battle that touches the quaral between naked snake and the end. Took me a good fourty minutes to beat this guy and I loved chasing him around and searching for him. And overall the storyline was great also. In my opinion this is the greatest MGS. Hopefully V can touch III.
Metal Gear Solid 3 is probably my favorite game of all time. It is truly a masterpiece. The ending always makes me tear up. The impact of it is so powerful!
If you get a protective case for the vita it blocks the rear touch screen, but you can take off the back piece if you do want to use the rear touch screen
When if first played the game when i was 11, i was so completely terrified by the End that I just hid in a cardboard box watching the screen for hours... I mean, at least the other bosses had the courtesy to show themselves...
A good tip for those that are new: on your SECOND play through, kill The End when you see him near the facility w/ Granin, when you reach the area with the boss fight, instead of the end its a whole whack of ocelot unit men, its also alot of fun
First and best cammo system ever. One trick I found online is if you use the tranquilizer gun and other stun weapons on the boss fights you win their cammo gear which has special attributes for each. Like The Fear, if you beat him with stamina depletion you get his spider cammo which makes you 90% camouflaged, so long as you keep eating
It's actually called Snake Eater because you kill the Cobra Unit, eating snakes being the reason the mission was called Snake Eater is a common misconception.
It's both. And also possibly a little bit of sexual innuendo, like Naked Snake and Solid Snake. Kojima probably took it from the US Green Berets. Apparently it's one of the nicknames they've had at some point.
Loved the fight with The End. Me too used the directional microphone to make out his breathing. Wish they would do such fights in modern games more often.
The only complaint about Snake Eater (That's specifically the Snake Eater release, not the Subsistence and later releases): Camera. The interior overhead camera in MGS1 and MGS2 does not work well in the massive (by MGS standards) open areas and long distance. Subsistence threw in the controllable chase cam that makes 3rd person gaming work.
Why on Earthl would you start with "Rising"?? Metal Gear is a Story you need to play in order to fully appreciate & understand it. That like playing GOD OF WAR 3 without playing the 1st 2 previous GOW's
After you play Metal gear solid 3, Metal gear solid 2 will make more cense, but is better if you play "2" first so you can get to know solid snake better and a little bit of big boss story
Don't forget, MGS1 as well as 2 and 3 HD are now on sale on the PlayStation store for half price, about £15 for the 3 of them. May not be quite as good value as the Legacy Collection (Especially if you wanted a physical copy of everything minus 1) but if you're like me and just wanted a copy of 3 and 2, or even just 3 or something then it's not a bad deal.
I like how Snake in this game actually emotes, Solid was just a dude with the face of a brick that was humorless, this snake though emoted like when he gushed over the gun that Eva gives him and laughs and cracks jokes once in a while. (To be fair I still love Solid).
+Break Salaz Was just playing it an hour ago, it's almost easier than it was before because of the streamlined menus with the touchscreen. For $12.99 on a handheld, that's a hard deal to beat. Unless you'd rather go for the Vita and have MGS1-3 and Peace Walker.
Yeah, I remember how not having a Soliton Radar was the first time I played this game. "Oh shit, I hear foot-steps. A guard is nearby, where is he? WHERE IS HE?" "Huh?" "HE HAS SEEN ME, WHERE IS HE?!!! *Loud Trumpet sound* FUCK!
MSG is the best game series in my opinion. I love those games with a passion. Also keep up the good work Jeremy. I just started watching this channel a few weeks ago and now I'm hooked.
I guess I need to try this thing again. Honestly I gave up after the first hour when I only felt like I got actual control of Snake for about 5 minutes, and that to just walk.
Alright this is good. I was watching Lara playing piano on Twitch (literally the first time I heard of her), and she eventually plays the MGS 3 theme. I looked it up on TH-cam to post a link to my friend and this review was in the suggested videos. Now you tell me to go look at a chick playing the theme on a violin, AND IT TURNS OUT TO BE LARA. Sick coincidence.
Hands down best game of all time just ahead of xiii in my books, the detail is just awesome and escaping the shagohod toward the end was simply epic! Brilliant review as always jeremy!
I have been a HUGE fan of the MGS series ever since I saw the commercial for the first one in the mid 90's. It's why I got a Playstation, even though it took me a week to figure out NOT to turn off the Playstation when switching disk LOL. M.G.S. 1 I think has the best story of all the Metal Gears, but M.G.S. 3 is by far the best of the series including the MGS 4 on PS3. It's story is second only to MGS 1, but game play is the best in the series. Great review, great 5o'clock shadow ;)
I loved this game except fighting The Pain. I have a massive phobia of bees/hornets etc so that buzzing noise and the way the hornets attack the screen just makes me lose my mind
this was the game I played of the Metal Gear series and I got hooked and made me wanna play em all when this game first came out. And even though I didn't really understand the story, I still choked up at the ending

Oh thanks
Such a thought provoking and very engaging story. Perfectly well developed characters. Truly awesome gameplay. It's one of the best PS2 games in history!
The game is called snake eater is also because you kill the members of the cobra unit 🐍
We need a remastered for this game
My all time favorite game.
I'm so mad right now I just beat the end and I went to bed woke up and I'm back at the start has anyone else had this problem
You sure you beat the End? Did he drag you back to jail?
I remember him falling and dying
tears did happen when I was young yesss i'm tellin myself no you get the fuck back in there tear!!! ... first time where something really made me see and say it truly is all a matter of perspective and made me soo mad they used her great message for a game ahead of it's time
It a never be another boss battle that touches the quaral between naked snake and the end. Took me a good fourty minutes to beat this guy and I loved chasing him around and searching for him. And overall the storyline was great also. In my opinion this is the greatest MGS. Hopefully V can touch III.
Here after the remake announcement.
thumbs up if you think Metal Gear Soild 3 is a masterpiece
Metal Gear Solid 3 is probably my favorite game of all time. It is truly a masterpiece. The ending always makes me tear up. The impact of it is so powerful!
Am I the only one that didn't want to kill the boss
I did cry! The only game that i did cry in my life was this one.
If you get a protective case for the vita it blocks the rear touch screen, but you can take off the back piece if you do want to use the rear touch screen
Can't wait for your review for metal gear solid 5 the phantom pain
wait, the tanker sunk??
The End is the best boss fight in video game history.
When if first played the game when i was 11, i was so completely terrified by the End that I just hid in a cardboard box watching the screen for hours... I mean, at least the other bosses had the courtesy to show themselves...
Thrillseeker8922 He was kind of a bitch to beat since he keeps running away. Although the concept of the way you do it is quite cool though.
The opening credits song.....so fucking epic. I want that to play when the credits of my life roll.
Loved the fight with The End. Me too used the directional microphone to make out his breathing.
Wish they would do such fights in modern games more often.
That salute in the cemetery made my eyes water. I'll never forget finishing MGS3.
Big fan of the series, and without a shadow of a doubt the best metal gear since ps1's metal gear solid.
i am very new to mg. i jus got rising and am about to buy the hd collection. i know im about to be addicted
Also get 4 ground zeroes and mgs 1 on psn and u will be set
Play all of the codecs in rising you'll learn a lot
Why on Earthl would you start with "Rising"??
Metal Gear is a Story you need to play in order to fully appreciate & understand it.
That like playing GOD OF WAR 3 without playing the 1st 2 previous GOW's
Well it's not a really important part of the story but yeah I would at least play mgs2 before rising
After you play Metal gear solid 3, Metal gear solid 2 will make more cense, but is better if you play "2" first so you can get to know solid snake better and a little bit of big boss story
At 8:40.... you mean tip your infinity bandana/wig don't you?
Getting ready for the remake
Big Boss is the best
lol I'm currently playing this on the 3DS. I wish Konami revisited and updated it for the New3DS
marcayu How does it play in the new3DS?
+wildcardsniper That's not what he was asking...
***** It's all cool man, don't sweat it.
+Break Salaz Judging from the demo, It usess the N3DS's additional controls as if it were the Circle Pad Pro controls, so it plays fine.
Why is this game so good????!!!!!
NANOKOJIMA SON!!!
peace walker review pls
Alright this is good. I was watching Lara playing piano on Twitch (literally the first time I heard of her), and she eventually plays the MGS 3 theme. I looked it up on TH-cam to post a link to my friend and this review was in the suggested videos. Now you tell me to go look at a chick playing the theme on a violin, AND IT TURNS OUT TO BE LARA. Sick coincidence.
Good review...
Hands down best game of all time just ahead of xiii in my books, the detail is just awesome and escaping the shagohod toward the end was simply epic! Brilliant review as always jeremy!
"I look like al quaida" -Jeremy
The Boss is the most wonderful and just woman EVER 😢😢😢😢
I thought ocelot brainwashed himself with liquids personality so he could infiltrate the patriots.
that's the 4th game explanation, the third and second game's explanation is that one
*this
I have been a HUGE fan of the MGS series ever since I saw the commercial for the first one in the mid 90's. Great review, great 5o'clock shadow ;)
mmmmm playing through the series now, as my entrance i to the series was TPP, working on this game now and it's deeeeeeeeeeeelicious.
Best metal gear ever
I loved this game except fighting The Pain. I have a massive phobia of bees/hornets etc so that buzzing noise and the way the hornets attack the screen just makes me lose my mind
The boss isn’t a woman. She’s a badass.
this was the game I played of the Metal Gear series and I got hooked and made me wanna play em all when this game first came out. And even though I didn't really understand the story, I still choked up at the ending
I just want to take the time and say I LOVE your videos, they always Make me laugh. Thanks for what you've five. Can't wait for your next video
