I originally thought all the talking and driving was hurting the game's pace a bit, but then I realized it's the quiet moments that makes this game different than the previous ones, and in my opinion, makes it the best. Spectacular game, spectacular series, you will be missed Nathan Drake.
They actually give you some character development, instead of just a straight forward summer blockbuster. It's not that they were hurting without the character development that we have in #4, but I definitely think it helps. #4 is definitely on par with #2 for me.
I feel like you could ask me that every day and I would give a different answer. 2 and 4 are both so good. I really can't pick a best game between them.
I don't know for me Uncharted 2 is still my favorite. I felt really good killing the final boss and it was a boss fight. This one didn't feel that way and the fact that Nadine lives bothers me. Haha anyway this is a superb game.
John McClane Oddly, I felt just the opposite about Nadine living. I was happy. I actually liked her as a character. Plus, you have that moment where she is the only one talking sense at the end, but is forced into continuing with the fool's errand of recovering the treasure.
She was a shallow and brutally underused character, and worse yet her presence didn't deliver any payoff; you don't even get the chance at a real fight against her, just pre-scripted scenes and then she appears in cut scenes till her exit. The execution of her character was done masterfully, but overall her role was rather pointles
The flashback in Uncharted 4 was before the one in Uncharted 3. In the one in Uncharted 4 he took the name Nathan Drake. We have to remember that the flashback in Uncharted 3 wasn't all that detailed to begin with it just explored the event that introduced Nathan and Sully.
+DAVID CAZARES Yeah, but the prison one was after, and they never talk about being separated, or about Nate being on his own for a long period of time, plus Sully knew him, so you know he was around at least after Sully saved Nate, so where was he during the U3 flashbacks? And why was Nate on his own? You could argue that he was lying about being on his own since he was caught and with a stranger, but it seems like his brother would be helping him steal the ring.
Yeah, I think it really benefited from being in such a small window, just a day in the life, so while the element wasn't there, there was plenty of room for it.
In this order for Uncharted games for me. 1) Uncharted 4: A Thief's End 2) Uncharted 2: Among Thieves 3) Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception 4) Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
Fortunately Amy Hennig had written all of and directed a small bit of Uncharted 4 before she willingly left to persue other things. So regardless of her sad departure, her fingerprint is still all over Uncharted 4.
She kinda had to go, she was trying to make Sam end up as a villain, which wouldn't have fit the story at all and kinda would've ruined the entire game, they had to force her out because she refused to compromise and let's face it the whole betrayal thing happens way too often in uncharted
+Perry Dunetz actually, judging by that first reveal teaser, Nate left Sam in that prison and never looked back, then Sam escapes and goes to get revenge on Nate and reveal his lies to his friends. That would make way more sense for Nate to had never talked about this brother of him, cause he was ashamed he left him behind. I'm not telling it would be a better game, I'm saying it would make more sense.
One major problem with UC4, all that gold, all 400 million dollars of it is still just sat where they left it in that cove. Gold doesn't float away or corrode, Rafe is dead, they're the only ones who know it's there and now they have their own salvage company to go easily get it. Nobody ever mentions the gold again lol.

Aside from just a couple nitpicks, I think the game is absolutely fantastic. It was a very nice ending to a great series. My favorite Uncharted is 2, but honestly, all 4 games are a joy to play for me. They're all great in my book, and that's how a franchise should be.
Game's so addictive (I got it 2 days ago), last night I got onto the game and started playing the story mode around 1:30 AM then next thing I know, I pause the game and look outside only to see sunlight and realize it's fucking 6:00 AM.
Game of the year? Eeeeh... Horizon Zero Dawn, FINAL FANTASY FUCKING FIFTEEN, No Man's Sky... I honestly doubt Uncharted 4 is GOTY, since the gameplay itself is... eeeh... I mean it's great, but it's nothing groundbreaking in terms of gameplay.
There are 2 aspects of this game that I adored, that made it so special to me. 1) the little passage where Elena and Drake ride through the most beautiful of grassland in a jeep and there is just a sort of contemplative score underneath. and 2) just how beautifully elena's character was done
It honestly feels super nostalgic when Nathan's older adventures are touched on, mentioned, or unfolded during this game. Because we were there by him, experiencing those adventures with him.

Loved this game easily one of my favorite of all time. The graphics, environments and attention to detail is staggering, there were so many moments where I just had to sit back and take it all in. Set pieces where amazing and so is the combat, I like the blend of stealth and full blown shooting, every fight felt different sometimes I would go balls out, others I would slip through unnoticed or it'd be a blend of everything. The platforming was great as well varied and always kept you on your toes. Story was engrossing voice acting was top notch as usual and I liked the small moments where Nathan was just exploring or solving puzzels or even just looking at shit in his house. Everything was executed perfectly 10-10 in my book.
Finally Jeremy reviewed it !!!!!!!!!!! This game is hands down the greatest 3rd person game i ever played ever !!!! Yes ! It surpassed the Last of us by miles !!!
The ending to Uncharted 4 may not be as bombastic as some players wanted it to be, and I won't spoil it. Regardless, it made me drop my controller and definitely made me tear up. It's a fitting end to a wonderful series.
I just finished this game. There was actually one line (think it was the Scotland level) where Nathan goes "see that? Like a Ninja!" after stealth killing everyone.

Agreed uncharted 4 was amazing! I kept out of trailers and ignored it all till it arrived to my house the cold toe edition This is definitely the best one out of all 4! The ending did feel like a season finale! Loved it but sad it ended now :(
Alright, long message ahead, read at your own risk of boredom and also spoilers. I love Uncharted 4, let's be honest : the graphics were breathtaking, the dynamic between Sam and Nate was awesome (you could really feel it was the creative team from TLOU as the characters felt like real people and not just movie characters), the pacing was great, the stakes in Nate and Elena's relationship were much higher than before, the notes you find along the way make you think about your life choices. It was simply more mature. One thing I always find funny is chapter 20 which is essentially a non-stop gunfight because ND knows you might have done all the other fights in complete stealth, so they throw this at you to force you to shoot something. All of this I liked. Now here's my nitpicks : You see, this Uncharted being developed by the TLOU team helped it in the character departement but it hurted it in all the rest. In my opinion, ever since the first one in the series, Uncharted was about lost and mythical cities/treasures (El Dorado, Shambala, Ubar...). Libertalia, the lost city you discover in this Uncharted, is great but it seemed like a thing that would exist, y'know ? Shambala, on the other hand is clearly a fictitious city and there's really a feeling of discovering a magical place, plus there was the supernatural element (the resin). Here in UC4, it's just a pirate teasure..... It feels too grounded for an Uncharted, y'know what I mean ? Also, the action set-pieces were more grounded than in the past. In Uncharted 2, you had the collapsing building gunfight, you fought against an helicopter, the train chapter where you took down an helicopter, again and a few soldiers too, the gunfight in the village with the tank. In Uncharted 4, you have the chase with the jeep in King's Bay and 2 collapsing towers. I still love the game for the improvement on character motivations and Rafe..... oh Rafe, sweet goodness ! Finally a good villain. But, I would loved it even more if it was more action-packed as well as being excellent with the characters.
Jeffrey Lebowski If you are gonna nit pick their creative direction of how they made the game, then you should know what team actually made the game. After Uncharted 2, naughty split the team into 2 teams, team 1 to continue the uncharted series and team 2 (made up of the more experienced devs) went on to create TLOU. After they made TLOU they took a break. In no way did team 2 work on uncharted 3 or 4, except when the two lead directors that left to make TLOU came back to team 1 to finish uncharted 4 because Amy the lead director for uncharted 3 had left in the middle of it's making (probably do to creative differences). So no, no affect of the time spent making TLOU affected the making of the rest of the uncharted series.

The fact this game is almost a decade old is making me feel old. I remember being excited for this game and wanting to see how Nathan Drake’s story ends. And man, after replaying the entire franchise, it goes to show how important sticking the landing actually is for a story.

Uncharted 2 is still my fav uncharted but 4 comes real close. Had a few gripes with the pacing and plot details especially the treasure, which felt like a backdrop and did not draw me in, other than that definitely a 9+/10 for me.
Personally I think the treasure wasn't as important in the story because the story for the most part was just about saving Sam, Nathan didn't care about the treasure and so the game didn't make it the focus point

I had to save my money and get a lot of jobs for some months to be able to finally buy this game. In all of that time my cat got really sick and I had a couple of other problems which made me use my money so that made it harder. So when I finally got it, of course I wanted to try it right away, it was the result of months of hard work and it was the ending of one of my favorite videogame series ever. Problem was, my girlfriend (who lives in another town) was visiting me that day. So I asked her and being the awesome person that she is, she told me to play it while she was watching. At first, she seemed kinda bored, like she just did it because she wanted to see me happy. A couple of hours later she was sitting on the edge of her chair watching the game, asking me to continue playing even though we had something else to do that day. Uncharted is a "movie-game" done right. A cinematic, fun to watch experience that is also fun to play and actually has interaction from the player (The epilogue is a great example of this). The technical aspects just made it better. The amazing graphics and the seamless change from gameplay to "cutscenes" make it such a great visual experience and also really, really hard to put down. It seems like you never get a moment of rest where you can say "Here, I can stop here and continue playing later". Instead, it feels like a long movie that you need to finish in one sitting. Such an amazing game. Hopefully Naughty Dog will bring us another experience like this one in the future, because Uncharted games were definetely one of a kind. Nathan Drake will be missed, and with good reason.
I've beaten the first three and I own the fourth but I've only just started it. The easter egg with Elena and trying to beat her so you can do the dishes (trying not to give it away) has been my favorite part so far. I have a feeling this will be my favorite one but as it stands two is the best in my opinion. When you started talking about how this is the last one, I actually started tearing up. It makes me so sad to think there will not be anymore Uncharted games.
Uncharted 4 was awesome. I was there for the adventure, the jokes, the climbing, and definitely for those sweet-ass character moments. This game is like an interactive movie. It's exciting, it's interesting, there's plenty of touching moments, and the graphics are spectacular! 8/10
Not light years better. A little more disjointed but I like the Nathan and Sully dynamic in 3 more than the relationships in 2. Overall better but not WAY better.

Great review as ever Jeremy. The only exception I'll take with it, is that Nate was a couple of years younger In 4 than he was in 3 when he teamed up with Sully. When his brother left him at the boarding school, He obviously got fed up waiting and became a runaway.
The scene where they are at Libertalia and Nate and Elena are going up on the elevator..that scene was beautiful where you drive the jeep through the forest.. Just amazing and beautiful..Plus the Soundtrack!! (Chapter is "for better or worse" i think)
Hey Jeremy, with 1500 comments, I'm guessing you won't read this, but hopefully others will, and I'd like to hear some opinions. SPOILER ALERT: I'm a huge Uncharted fan and I'm loving the hype that this one is getting. I feel that too often mediocre games get this type of attention, while great games get less spotlight. That being said, I'd like to challenge some points brought up by you. 1. Unlike you, I did NOT go into the game "blind", and I really regret it. True, the U2-esque car chase sequence was amazing, but the ENTIRE scene had been on gameplay trailers. Highly disappointing considering that was perhaps the biggest stunt in the game. Thus, I disagree that the set-pieces in this game are 100x better than U2 and U3. In fact, I'd say the train wreck from 2, the boat in U3 and the plane in U3 were significantly more exciting that any of the moments in this one. In addition, while the puzzles were ok in this game, but I still feel the U3 puzzles were the best ones, even if I prefer both U2 and U4 over that game. Lesson learned: never watch long gameplay trailers in story driven games. 2. I really enjoyed the character development in this game, especially the drake-elena relationship. However, I felt that from (forgive me if I get the chapters wrong) chapters 13 - 19 Sully and Elena completely disappeared from the game. When Elena finally rescues drake, I realized how intense the story had become, something that I appreciated in a game such as TLOU, but thought was unnecessarily slow for an Uncharted game. That being said, I can't even get started on the positives of the game. Crash bandicoot with the glorious ps1 loading sound made my day, and the little jokes that are classic Uncharted are even better made in this game. While it's not my favorite uncharted, it's still my favorite game in a long time. My list stands Uncharted 2 > U4 > U3 > U1 Cheers!

There are 2 aspects of this game that I adored, that made it so special to me. 1) the little passage where Elena and Drake ride through the most beautiful of grassland in a jeep and there is just a sort of contemplative score underneath. and 2) just how beautifully elena's character was done
It honestly feels super nostalgic when Nathan's older adventures are touched on, mentioned, or unfolded during this game. Because we were there by him, experiencing those adventures with him.

Loved this game easily one of my favorite of all time. The graphics, environments and attention to detail is staggering, there were so many moments where I just had to sit back and take it all in. Set pieces where amazing and so is the combat, I like the blend of stealth and full blown shooting, every fight felt different sometimes I would go balls out, others I would slip through unnoticed or it'd be a blend of everything. The platforming was great as well varied and always kept you on your toes. Story was engrossing voice acting was top notch as usual and I liked the small moments where Nathan was just exploring or solving puzzels or even just looking at shit in his house. Everything was executed perfectly 10-10 in my book.

The ending to Uncharted 4 may not be as bombastic as some players wanted it to be, and I won't spoil it. Regardless, it made me drop my controller and definitely made me tear up. It's a fitting end to a wonderful series.

Alright, long message ahead, read at your own risk of boredom and also spoilers.
I love Uncharted 4, let's be honest : the graphics were breathtaking, the dynamic between Sam and Nate was awesome (you could really feel it was the creative team from TLOU as the characters felt like real people and not just movie characters), the pacing was great, the stakes in Nate and Elena's relationship were much higher than before, the notes you find along the way make you think about your life choices. It was simply more mature.
One thing I always find funny is chapter 20 which is essentially a non-stop gunfight because ND knows you might have done all the other fights in complete stealth, so they throw this at you to force you to shoot something. All of this I liked.
Now here's my nitpicks :
You see, this Uncharted being developed by the TLOU team helped it in the character departement but it hurted it in all the rest. In my opinion, ever since the first one in the series, Uncharted was about lost and mythical cities/treasures (El Dorado, Shambala, Ubar...). Libertalia, the lost city you discover in this Uncharted, is great but it seemed like a thing that would exist, y'know ?
Shambala, on the other hand is clearly a fictitious city and there's really a feeling of discovering a magical place, plus there was the supernatural element (the resin). Here in UC4, it's just a pirate teasure..... It feels too grounded for an Uncharted, y'know what I mean ?
Also, the action set-pieces were more grounded than in the past. In Uncharted 2, you had the collapsing building gunfight, you fought against an helicopter, the train chapter where you took down an helicopter, again and a few soldiers too, the gunfight in the village with the tank. In Uncharted 4, you have the chase with the jeep in King's Bay and 2 collapsing towers.
I still love the game for the improvement on character motivations and Rafe..... oh Rafe, sweet goodness ! Finally a good villain. But, I would loved it even more if it was more action-packed as well as being excellent with the characters.
Jeffrey Lebowski If you are gonna nit pick their creative direction of how they made the game, then you should know what team actually made the game. After Uncharted 2, naughty split the team into 2 teams, team 1 to continue the uncharted series and team 2 (made up of the more experienced devs) went on to create TLOU. After they made TLOU they took a break. In no way did team 2 work on uncharted 3 or 4, except when the two lead directors that left to make TLOU came back to team 1 to finish uncharted 4 because Amy the lead director for uncharted 3 had left in the middle of it's making (probably do to creative differences). So no, no affect of the time spent making TLOU affected the making of the rest of the uncharted series.

The fact this game is almost a decade old is making me feel old. I remember being excited for this game and wanting to see how Nathan Drake’s story ends. And man, after replaying the entire franchise, it goes to show how important sticking the landing actually is for a story.

the greatest game on the ps4 and maybe even this whole generation, and an instant classic.
Uncharted 2 is still my fav uncharted but 4 comes real close. Had a few gripes with the pacing and plot details especially the treasure, which felt like a backdrop and did not draw me in, other than that definitely a 9+/10 for me.
Personally I think the treasure wasn't as important in the story because the story for the most part was just about saving Sam, Nathan didn't care about the treasure and so the game didn't make it the focus point
+Peter McIntyre I understand that. The game used the treasure as the background to develop the characters. I just dissapointed by the lack of the attention given to the treasure which previous games did, only a small subjective gripe for me.
+16dylan2 yeah I get it, even in Indiana Jones 3 there was enough time given to the holy grail even though the story was more or less "save Sean Connery". Honestly, I'm just glad that rather than globe hopping every mission (as with uncharted 3) they managed to spend like a third of the time on the one island, as it made the story much more coherent (also fuck Talbot, what was even his tarot card bullet impervious ass about?)
I had to save my money and get a lot of jobs for some months to be able to finally buy this game. In all of that time my cat got really sick and I had a couple of other problems which made me use my money so that made it harder. So when I finally got it, of course I wanted to try it right away, it was the result of months of hard work and it was the ending of one of my favorite videogame series ever. Problem was, my girlfriend (who lives in another town) was visiting me that day. So I asked her and being the awesome person that she is, she told me to play it while she was watching. At first, she seemed kinda bored, like she just did it because she wanted to see me happy. A couple of hours later she was sitting on the edge of her chair watching the game, asking me to continue playing even though we had something else to do that day.
Uncharted is a "movie-game" done right. A cinematic, fun to watch experience that is also fun to play and actually has interaction from the player (The epilogue is a great example of this). The technical aspects just made it better. The amazing graphics and the seamless change from gameplay to "cutscenes" make it such a great visual experience and also really, really hard to put down. It seems like you never get a moment of rest where you can say "Here, I can stop here and continue playing later". Instead, it feels like a long movie that you need to finish in one sitting.
Such an amazing game. Hopefully Naughty Dog will bring us another experience like this one in the future, because Uncharted games were definetely one of a kind. Nathan Drake will be missed, and with good reason.

I've beaten the first three and I own the fourth but I've only just started it. The easter egg with Elena and trying to beat her so you can do the dishes (trying not to give it away) has been my favorite part so far. I have a feeling this will be my favorite one but as it stands two is the best in my opinion. When you started talking about how this is the last one, I actually started tearing up. It makes me so sad to think there will not be anymore Uncharted games.
Uncharted 4 was awesome. I was there for the adventure, the jokes, the climbing, and definitely for those sweet-ass character moments. This game is like an interactive movie. It's exciting, it's interesting, there's plenty of touching moments, and the graphics are spectacular!

Hey Jeremy, with 1500 comments, I'm guessing you won't read this, but hopefully others will, and I'd like to hear some opinions. SPOILER ALERT:
I'm a huge Uncharted fan and I'm loving the hype that this one is getting. I feel that too often mediocre games get this type of attention, while great games get less spotlight. That being said, I'd like to challenge some points brought up by you.
1. Unlike you, I did NOT go into the game "blind", and I really regret it. True, the U2-esque car chase sequence was amazing, but the ENTIRE scene had been on gameplay trailers. Highly disappointing considering that was perhaps the biggest stunt in the game.
Thus, I disagree that the set-pieces in this game are 100x better than U2 and U3. In fact, I'd say the train wreck from 2, the boat in U3 and the plane in U3 were significantly more exciting that any of the moments in this one.
In addition, while the puzzles were ok in this game, but I still feel the U3 puzzles were the best ones, even if I prefer both U2 and U4 over that game.
Lesson learned: never watch long gameplay trailers in story driven games.
2. I really enjoyed the character development in this game, especially the drake-elena relationship. However, I felt that from (forgive me if I get the chapters wrong) chapters 13 - 19 Sully and Elena completely disappeared from the game. When Elena finally rescues drake, I realized how intense the story had become, something that I appreciated in a game such as TLOU, but thought was unnecessarily slow for an Uncharted game.
That being said, I can't even get started on the positives of the game. Crash bandicoot with the glorious ps1 loading sound made my day, and the little jokes that are classic Uncharted are even better made in this game. While it's not my favorite uncharted, it's still my favorite game in a long time.
My list stands Uncharted 2 > U4 > U3 > U1
