Finally got around to changing the fluid for the second time in ~25K miles on my 12 Focus. I changed it previously at ~27K miles when I first got it, car has ~51K miles on it now. Really glad I did because I discovered the top vent tube was completely removed from the transmission and oil seepage on the top of the transmission. Not sure if I accidentally disconnected the transmission vent tube when I had the air-box out or how long it had been disconnected. got a 2015 with 138k miles i doubt the previous owner ever changed the fluid, the vehicle shakes a little when accelerating from a stop but then smooths outand car drives fine and shifts fine after. I am hoping changing the fluid like this does not make things worse with this mileage. Also when you check live data at clutch A and B what slippage is normal regarding the RPM? At idle my cluth both slip around the same rpm range at idle, when accelerating sometimes the clutch slips 1000rpm when the engine is at about 2500 rpm and sometimes I see negative slippage too, love learning new things. @@VinnieR-vp5fw hi, correct. A fluid change won't change anything whatsoever. It'll extend the life of the synchros and bearings. You likely have typical clutch shudder. Driving the car hard a few times can mitigate it.

You do not have to take off the LF tire. Place car on ramps. Using a T-50 socket and a 6" swivel extension and 1/2" ratchet or breakerbar break the drain plug and check/fill plug loose and immediately retighten them both. Take car on highway for 20 minutes to heat up the fluid. Place on ramps. Remove the transmission vent tube completely. Drain fluid into pan. Now remove check/ fill plug. Allow to drain completely. Install drain plug and torque to 35 lb. ft.. Slowly add 2 quart of Motorcraft Dual Clutch fluid into the vent tube opening. Allow all fluid to drain from side check/fill opening. Install and torque plug to 35 lb. ft.. Clean and install vent tube and clean check/fill area with break cleaner. Drive and check for leaks. DONE 😊

Ford recommends 75,000 miles. Trans fluid is hydraulic fluid, not engine oil. Hydraulic fluid absorbs moisture from air, even if sealed. Change fluid sooner if in high humidity environment. Flush brake system also as brake fluid is also hydraulic fluid and absorbs moisture faster.
I just did the fluid change in my 2012 focus, I’m noticing after it was done there is a very slight squeaking noise coming from the driver side of the engine bay. Any idea what that might be?
I have a 2014 Ford Focus auto trasmission. There is a rattling noise coming from the front of the car and last for excatly 30 seconds, with intervals of 11-12s. Is easy to hear from the inside doors closed but once outside you open the hood you cannot hear it. Any thoughts on what could it be? I don’t have any lights/codes and the car runs just fine, I'm planing to change the fluid now im at 119k miles and the trasmission generate noises when coming to stop, presumably downshifting to gears 2-1. I doubt the previous owner service the trasmission.

Hi! Clutch shudder as you're describing can be mitigated by fully depressing the throttle several times in a row, 30-70mph or so. It helps burnish the clutch a little and get rid of the shudder for a while. If it continues I'd do a clutch job. I've got videos on how to do that without special tools

You posted another video I think where you mengtioned another fluid? Can you please give me the names of the Fluids that you mentioned
Thank You very much I am hoping to drive the car to 300,000 miles Have done alm,ost everything to it as far as maintanance goes .
Hi, I'm happy the videos helped. The best fluid is Amsoil DCT fluid. The best for high mileage transmissions in relatively warm climates is acdelco friction modified syncromesh. Since you have a brand new transmission, I'd use amsoil dct fluid. You can buy it on amsoils website
I'm guessing this is NOT the same as a 17 Ford Focus with a 2 Liter dohc. Is that right? Thank you
It's the same thing as long as you have the dual Clutch transmission
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles I think probably not. Mine is the 2.0L L4 DOHC 16V
@@HEADBANGRR if you're in the US, a 2017 focus with a 2.0L does have the dps6 dual clutch
Hi can I use valvoline full synthetic automatic transmission fluid?
Use the dual clutch fluid from valvoline
I have a 2014 ford fiesta se they gave me 75w90 at AutoZone should
I trust?
Hi big ben i have a ford focus 2017 my car i fell vibrating when during drive specially when they changed the transmission number! But is gone 89000 km until now I didn’t changed a fuel oil transmission, so what’s your advice for me !? Appreciate it
Hi that sounds like clutch shudder. You can drive the car hard occasionally to mitigate the shudder. Or replace the clutch and forks
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles what’s about the oil ? If i gonna change the transmission fluid they will be good ? Or not !?
@@ranjdarridha6519 it's a dry clutch setup, so that won't help with shudder
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles so your advice is do not changing the oil transmission right now ?
@@ranjdarridha6519 Not as a repair attempt for shudder. It's a good idea to service it to extend the life if the bearings and synchronizers. But it won't get rid of shudder
Is there any other fluids i can use or does it have too be motocraft or could i use Valvoline?
Valvoline dct is fine. Or amsoil. Also 75w80
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles have you used valoline before
Not sure if you will see this but you had mentioned about ACDelco synchromesh fluid. Just curious if the Valvoline brand is as good as the ACDelco?
Yeah valvoline is fine. The ac Delco (white bottle) has a lot of friction modifier in it, which will help with syncrhos that are starting to wear and make crunch noises. Not grinding
Very helpful thank u my daughter has this pos focus 😂Semper fi
Glad it helped!
Hi Ben,
How often the fluid is changed on ford fiesta? I have a 2019.
Hi! I would recommend changing it every 30 to 50k miles
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles thank you.
I added 60oz or 1.875 Quarts. Is that too much ?
Hey. It'll be fine. If you're concerned, you can pop the hex-8mm out of the side of the transmission and let it drizzle out until it's a slow drizzle. (vehicle level)
Thanks a lot
@@paulbaraka4587 glad to help!
Hello, I have a 2016 focus has 123k miles I don’t think the automatic fluid has never been changed. Should I change immediately with this kind of mileage? Thanks love all your focus videos
Hi! Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you like the videos. Yeah, I would change the fluid soon. The sooner the better! That old fluid has very fine debris in it which is going through the synchros and final drive bearings. Take care and happy driving!
Is there a filter for this transmission?
No, there's no filter. If fully tore down, there's a magnet inside for debris.
What causes the clutches to heat up? Also I got code p0807
@@mariolevicy3073 hi, that code makes me think you need a new set of clutch actuators

@@BigBensCarsAndCycles I replaced those already but you right I’m going to try a ford brand we did a eBay brand. Thank you so much for responding and what you do for the Ford community
2 fluids meet Ford specifications. Ford DCT and Royal Purple Synchromax.
Why do these cars leak transmission fluid ?
They can leak from the input shaft seals, though thats less common these days because they've mostly all been serviced and upgraded by now
Is this a manual or automatic transmission fluid?
The dual clutch transmission fluid is used in both
There's no filter on this transmission?
Nope. Theres a magnet inside the transmission which requires teardown
@BigBensCarsAndCycles is this the one right above the transmission fluid pan? Just like the early 2000s ford focus style? Working on a 2016 ford focus
@@ohboy89 there isn't a pan on these.
Have you changed the internal differential bearing on a Focus tranmission?
Yes. I have a teardown video if you'd like to see accessing it
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles - Do you have a video on removing focus differential bearing?
I saw how to get to it.
I don’t have the vent cover wtf
Hi Ben, I see scamazon now has the Ford dual clutch fluid for $13 a quart. Would you trust it?
Hey, I don't see it. That sounds like a little too good of a deal haha.. I'd like to see
Now it dissapeared, somebody musta screwed up. Hahah
RockAuto. I purchased two quarts of the DPS6 Ford factory fluid from them, less than $60.00 delivered to my doorstep. It was by far the best deal, $30 a quart seems to be the best price. I would be highly skeptical of it being $13 a quart and not some kind of knock off.
These transmissions are absolute garbage. You’d think after being sued globally and loosing billions they would improve it. They didn’t do anything. Plus if you get your transmissions serviced by them they’ll pull this bullshit on you saying that the automatic transmission car has a “manual function dual clutch” and that your extended warranty dosnt cover it. Compete load of bs. It has a torque converter just like ALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS HAVE. don’t let them tell you otherwise. They don’t even give out courtesy vehicles anymore so if you have to have this fixed your without a vehicle till their done. Fuck ford. One of the worst car companies ever.
So glad I found your channel!
My Focus was part of the class action lawsuit over this horrible transmission! I’ve had 3 recall replacement transmissions in this car! They paid the full purchase price of the car but, the lawyers got HALF! Seems fair right? 🙄
Unfortunately I still have it.
Question- there is a horrible vibration from what is most likely the transmission when I accelerate, but stops when I reach speed, could it be low on fluid, or does it just need to be changed?
Hi!. Sounds like the typical clutch shudder. You can either live with it or do a clutch job. OEM Clutch and fork kit: amzn.to/48ppwVJ

Thank you for your expert advice, greatly appreciated! Do you think I’ll be wasting money if I change the fluid, I know it’s recommended to change every 50k miles and this transmission probably has 100k since the last rebuild.
I also have a 2002 ford ranger 4x4 that I just purchased, it has all forward gears, but no reverse, transmission shops want an unreasonable amount of money to repair, or put a remanufactured transmission in, ($2400- $4960) which I may do myself if I have to, my question is, could it be as simple as a reverse solenoid pack, or a band adjustment?
And do you have any links on a reputable remanufactured transmission outlet? Thank you in advance!
Is it ok to over fill a little? Thank you
if you put 2.00 in, thats only 14% overfilled. It shouldn't hurt anything. If you're worried, you can pull the check plug out and let excess run out
