Why my 2016 ford focus has problem of transmission when i drive up at the hills, the car stars to shake when it shift from 1 st gear to 2nd. Any recommendation?
After watching this very informative information I decided to do this procedure since my 2015 Fiesta SE Sedan had 97,000 miles. As indicated many are told to believe that this fluid is a lifetime fill and is not to be done. What I discovered is when I called my Ford dealer to make sure they had the proper fluid it took the part guys a few minutes to look up and confirm the part number for this fluid as he has never sold it to anyone nor has it been done by anyone in their shop. I asked him to confirm his inventory and he came back to the phone and basically said holly cow he has a huge inventory of this on hand and was shocked to see that many bottles. He then told me the price and also seemed shocked himself at the price of $54 per quart. I said no wonder you have such a huge amount on hand nobody wants to spend that price to do the change. We negotiated down to $27 per quart and I bought 2 quarts. Upon removing the top plug even with the drivers' side raised a lot of fluid came out of the fill plug and then I lowered the vehicle down to normal ride height (holding it with the floor jack since the wheel is removed) and even more came out. I would say maybe a half quart in all. Then I drained the rest from the bottom plug. The oil did not smell bad but did have a darker look than the fresh oil. I filled the case with fresh oil and with the vehicle level as described above only got 1.6 quarts in. i stopped there, otherwise I would have had to raise the vehicle and over fill it to get 1.8 quarts in. Upon driving the vehicle after this change I noticed a significant improvement in the weird shifting noises that DSG transmission make. The noises never bothered me because I know what to expect and that they are normal. I have owned a VW Jetta with DSG so I am use to how they perform. Again less noises and better shifting is very noticeable.
Why can't ford just tell us how much fluid to put in this thing, instead of this baloney. where I live it's hard to find a level spot. Just seems ridiculous to me.
I agree on the reduced noise and shift quality improvement. Since changing the fluid a month ago, the transmission has been very different than it was before. I wish I had known that before I got to 100k miles - I would have changed it sooner.
well I'm about 158k over when I should have started changing it. Just been driving it, didn't realize that was a thing to do. I think my clutches have started to wear out. I finally got a transmission issue warning the other day, when I accelerate too hard, it sounds like its slipping a little bit. And yes, this is the original powershift trans, somehow I've gotten it to 218k miles.
Its not a fill plug - this is service plug where you check if fluid level is correct. The fill plug is on top of the transmission. You have to take out the air filter box. At least it is like that in my dual clutch 6 speed tranny in my Ford Kuga
Thx for the video. I just attempted changing my transmission fluid for 2011 Ford Focus 2.0 duretec petrol at 70k. I jacked up my car and supported by jack stands. Using only a 8mm Hex Allen key and extension bar to loosen fill plug and drain plug from underneath the car. For filling, I found Nulon syntac 75w-85 transmission oil in innovative squeeze pouch with a hose attached. Very easy to use. Hope this helps to anyone attempting to change their own oil as Ford obviously doesn’t want ppl to do their own and charge you a premium.
Thank you so much for this video. I just bought a 2015, with 137000 miles on it. It drives good enough, but I can tell the transmission was never done before. My father is a retired mechanic, so everything that needs an oil change, is always on my radar. It's hard to believe how many people overlook this fact.
Buddy you are in for it. If I were you is take it back immediately. The DPS TCM powered transmission will never be fixed or need get redone enough to work. Worse yet ford mechanics and dealerships are aware of the problems and actively try and lie to you about how to even fix it. Some say they themselves dont know. Anyway please take it back. I'm watching this video to see if he does the reset procedure for the TCM. Because every single focus from 2012-16 needs a new one.
@@charwest5892 There is no way to take it back. It was bought "as is where is". This runs fine. I simply did an oil change to it. I do this regularly for all my vehicles. The cleaner the oil, the better cars run. This includes the transmission. I bought a 2007 Honda Odyssey, with a known transmission issue. I knew what the issue was immediately. I changed transmission fluid, and have put 40000 miles on it since with no issues.
Look up how to do a transmission reset on your ford super easy to do. Also your ground wire that extends out to the body of the car. Remove it and sand off the paint then reinstall. This helped me alot
I fixed my focus by putting new orings on the TCM. When western slope Ford did work they never put them back . I haven't thrown a code in about 3 weeks since I put the orings in .
I bought a 2014 w/140K miles on it. Needed a decent commuter for my son to get him another couple years, and decent affordable cars in this economy are very rare. Went into this car not knowing all the Focus issues. Couldn't imagine a Ford product could have so many KNOWN issues! I first fixed the KNOWN body ground issues which cleared up 3 engine/TCM codes. Now, I have to figure out what if anything can be done about the trans "shudder" that is intermittent. I used OP's suggested fix (5 full-on take-offs and acceleration cycles). This seemed to help for maybe a week? Shudder is back and now if I accelerate hard, there is a VERY hard "Thunk" when trans shifts from 1st to 2nd. Like hard enough you feel it through the car. So, for now I"m just taking it easy and is driving OK.
Another great video that was spot on 👍 I just did this in my wife's 2011 Fiesta with 92K on the clock. I used clear tubing inserted into a funnel to get the new fluid in. I just popped the hood and placed the funnel securely between the coil and battery while the tubing went straight down into the Transmission fill hole. I clamped the tubing to the sway bar and added about 1.7qts before it ran out (with the car leveled).
Oh man!!! You have no idea how much your video has helped me!!! Thank you soooooo much! I truly appreciate your time and effort to make all your videos including this one! 🙏🙏🙏
A bit of advice. I use a re-purposed 1 gal capacity garden sprayer to fill all my transmissions. It's super easy to use and you can very accurately control the amount of fluid to any trans or diff. Get a good quality one from your local garden supplier and it should last a very long time. I have several of them for use with different fluids. Give it a try. Once you have used one to fill a diff or tansmission, you'll never use anything else! Have Fun!
Sure, I haven't had any trouble with the thicker gear oils. Now I make sure they are at room temp before I use them. Obviously, if the gear oil is stone cold, it would be a bit more difficult.
Can you please tell me what is the size of the extension you use to drill the fluid because im confused. Some people says that is 3/8 and some other says that is 5/16. what is the exactly size for a 2012 ford focus?
Also with these Ford focus make sure to do a transmission reset. Super easy to do and also sand down where your negative wire cones out touches the body. This helped me
If Im not mistaking, the fill port for the transmission fluid is actually on top of the transmission. the port that you are filling through is the inspection port. If you have this transmission, look on top of the transmission under the air box, there should be a small black cap inside of a small tube attached to the top of the transmission. you open the drain port to expel the fluid, then open the inspection port so you do not overfill the transmission. Whats great about these transmissions is the dry clutch, you don't have a torque converter that has to be drained and filled.
Any other questions? NOTE: Do not overfill the transaxle. This will cause transaxle fluid to be forced out of the case. 5. Using a suitable oil suction gun, fill the transaxle to the correct level with the specified fluid. Add transmission fluid until the oil runs out of the fill port in a continuous stream. The transaxle is full when the oil flow from the fill port has slowed to a broken stream or dripping.
thanks for the info. even though I have wrenched for over 30 years,I always learn something from your videos....a tech never stops learning....well a good one at least....
A year ago I asked the dealer to change the transmission fluid and was told that my 2012 SE's powershift automatic transmission is a dry clutch unit, and it doesn't have any fluid to change. I've been under the car several times, and but I wasn't looking for that drain plug, so you can imagine my surprise when I came across this video. What I have done, though, is have the clutch pack replaced under warranty, twice...and three separate re-flashes. After seeing this video I went back to looked at my service records, and found some new XT-11-QDC Dual Clutch Fluid went into the car as part of the clutch replacement one time, but not the other. If I'm reading those records correctly does that mean that replacing transmission fluid in not required as part of the clutch pack change, but some people might have already had it done under warranty - so they should check their records - and others have not.
I'm glad I found this! I just bought a 2015 Focus and will be picking it up in a couple of days. The first thing I do to any car I buy is service the transmission and change to synthetic oil.
Changing from specific lubricant to whatever synthetic, especially in transmissions and gear boxes does usually more harm than good. Some trannies can only function properly on mineral base, or semisynthetic blend due to specific friction properties required for the synchros or wet clutches. Also viscosity and additive for newer manufacturers differs from one gear box to another.
@@pliedtka I'm sure he means service the transmission and change to synthetic engine oil. Which is always the correct choice, especially in cold climates.
what i do for my focus st and my 01 zx3 is bought x2 of the cheap funnels with the corrugated tubes you can get from any auto parts store, take the second tube off, trim the tapered end off and use some heat shrink to marry the tubes together, then from up top run the tubing down to the trans. Love the videos brother.
Changing ur fluid and having a strong battery and driving with a heavy foot until she shifts to a higher gear is essential in my opinion to good shift quality and not letting other people drive ur car.

Thanks Mak, great job, good photography and well lit so we can see everything as you are doing it, and great explanations for everything, with a good pace, two thumbs up!
this is a good highway car. it's terrible in town in stop and go traffic.I don't see how mine is still in one piece as as much as it bucks and bangs when it tries to shift.
Awesome video! Just did my 2015 Ford Focus. Big difference in driving. My car is at 155,000km the oil was black, the user manual says change at 160,000km. So that a bad idea. I’ll do it again in 60,000km as it easy to do. Thanks for the video!!
@@dr.daniel8816 I switch my car to just close to home, work car. I got 192,000 km now. It runs fine except the transmission control module went twice in the last 10,000 km, what was covered under warranty. It part of that class action law suit on these transmissions.
Also since I had it since new 2015, the duel clutch went 3 times so far. It a automatic but was all covered. It not made for slow traffic driving in city. That where my problems all start was getting stuck in traffic.
That is what I did. I used clear tubing attached to a funnel. I put the funnel in the engine bay next to the battery and used a spring clamp to hold the clear tubing inside the transmission. I could then slowly fill it until it started to run out ( about 1.6 quarts.)
That's a satisfying fluid change for an "automatic" transmission, not much fluid and no pan to drop. This trans is all over the news, please make a video about all the complaints.
Everyone has always told me this is a “dry transmission” and doesn’t need any fluid but I knew they had no idea what they were talking about. Looks like it’s time to change this as I’m at about 50k on mine and it’s been giving quite a bit more shutter lately compared to the past
2017 Ford fiesta here, exactly what I needed. I went with Valvoline since it's half the price and the same thing, 70k and my fluid was pretty dark. Glad to have red back inside
Hello, first of all let me congratulate you on your channel on youtube, you're an excellent mechanic. I'm from Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco Mexico, and it is almost impossible to find someone who is good repairing Ford F150, and your videos have helped me repair my Ford each that requires it. But today I found in a maze, I have problems in accelerating my Ford and fuel consumption, said the P0120 and P2004 code, change the TPS, three times in the last two months, and works well for a few days and then returns the fault, but the correction fuel consumption has not improved in any of these occasions. Before the last change of TPS I threw a new code P0220 and P0421, after changing the TPS only P0120 and P2004 marks sometimes. It's a 2004 Ford FX4, 3V Triton 5.4. 146,000 Kilometers I imagine you're busy, and I hope that when you get a chance I can support with this detail, thank you very much..
I believe there is a vent plug that you can reach under the hood, pull that plug and you can get a funnel in there and fill from the top instead of that dumb check plug.
Just did this job yesterday on the wife's 2011 Fiesta, the ford manual says to have the transmission in the neutral position and to raise the vehicle on a hoist, so I'm guessing that's to maintain a level plane. Had exactly 4 ounces left out of the second bottle . Found this transmission fluid on Amazon for about 12 bucks plus tax per bottle.
Thanks! Going to do this to my 13 focus this summer at 50k. Had the clutch pack replaced (warranty) at 15k and it's acting up around 30k again so hopefully this will help...really disappointed that this situation is the way it is
Ford came out with a circular recommending 50% or more throttle on acceleration so the shifts are distinct and this eliminates chatter. Since changing our driving habits to a more aggressive approach to upshifting we have had no more clutch chattering and better performance.
Don ALLAN if it’s out of warranty reflash with a custom tune,it gets rid of fords “learning” of driver habits and gives it firm decisive shifts as if it’s under load. Toms tunes on focusfanatics website
@@NoName-tz5ji YES. This. Get rid of Ford's poor tuning. It's what wears these transmissions out. Trying to make it shift like a torque converter. Stupid!!
Jason Ashley I run it in sport mode unless I’m on the interstate, that helps a bit. I’m still in warranty so mines stock and I use the clutch scrubbing technique once in a while.
If the "acting up" is chatter/shudder, changing the fluid will have NO effect. If there is a problem with the SHIFTING, then it's probably the TCM. Have the dealer "re-flash" the pcm and see if it helps. One other possibility is a bad "ground" connection to the transmission case. The servo motors draw a LOT of juice, if the ground connection is poor, excessive voltage drop will occur which those servos DON'T like!
I was so pissed when I found out my Focus had this and not an automatic trans. I have had nothing but trouble out of these trans, for lack of a more appropriate description, THEY SUCK! But now I can change the fluid my self, so Thanks.
I have a 2014 Focus with the DPS6 and I'm almost positive that the issue lies within the software. There's a popular tuner on the Focus Fanatics forums named Tom who has cured a lot of DPS6 issues. Mine shuddered even with the newest clutch, TCM, and calibration. After a few tunes adjustments no more shudder and shifts like a REAL DUAL CLUTCH. It's not a slush box like everyone expects it to be.
I have a 2012 Focus and would be very interested in this tune you are talking about. How can I get in touch with this guy Tom tat you are talking about? I would like to learn more about this. Thanks so much for your help.
It is NOT an automatic, it's a MANUAL transmission shifted automatically! I wish people would understand that it is a "performance" transmission and will NEVER be as "buttery smooth" as a TRUE automatic with fluid coupling! Can't be done, folks. You can complain to the dealer until the "cows come home"!
GrassFedMeats it only has 117k I got it from the original owner that maintenance it well I paid 4600 for it I got a really good deal on it for being a 2015 there’s no problems with it now but I rarely even drive places I would put 700 miles a year on my 2010 focus I had I made a video of the 2015 focus I got on my channel
@GrassFedMeats Bought a 2013 Focus SE with 56K miles (April '18). The clutch had some judder when starting from stand still. Had dealer replace clutch pak BEFORE I bought the car. I now have 68K miles with just the SLIGHTEST amount of judder at times, doesn't bother me because I have sticks most of my life. I LOVE the way the car accelerates under full throttle, lightning fast with a slight 'bump" during shifts. I still would rather have the "manual" version (the BOSS can't drive a stick)!
Thank you for making this video available. Went to "quick lube" type place, they couldn't even find the fill plug, which makes me wonder if they even would then have had the knowledge to use the proper fluid? Love the car, hate the shudder (from starting off from a stop)
When it comes to these "specialized" transmissions, I would AVOID the "quick lube" outlets and take the vehicle to a REAL SHOP! Btw, changing the transmission fluid in THIS transmission will DO NOTHING for the "shudder"! Only changing the "clutch pak" will fix the problem! Expensive fix, SORRY!
As a follow up three years later. "Yes", a flat out hard shifting full throttle burst or two definitely cleaned things up. ended up doing my own fluid change and it was cheap and easy. Had a transmission module failure which stranded me (Just in my own driveway thankfully.) But Ford ponied up and replacement of the module (last year @100,000 miles and 7 yrs. old - 100% free!) As of today the transmission is operating "very well". My last drive (It's pretty much my daughter's now) it shifted/operated flawlessly. Time will tell.
I got this done on my 2015 focus but for some reason after 1.6 quarts it was full. Can any one tell me why it only took 1.6 instead of 1.9 quarts? It also drain about that same amount, 1.6
Can't you add fluid on the top thru the vent hose.. mine pulled straight out seems like that's best place to fill. Take plug out on side to let extra come out... Or is this not correct 🤔
Sure wish this guy could come to Calvert County Maryland and help me out with my 2003 Lincoln Navigator, been screwed a couple of times by local so called mechanics.
Very detailed and very helpful. It's 40 dollar for each quart now for the fluid, so inflated. By the way, do you know how to remove the acuators on this transmission? Mostly the "A" one.
looks pretty simple compared to some crazy German stuff i have messed with. Love my 2017 fiesta w/ DSG. very sporty and smooth. Unlike the Vw or Audi ones i have driven.
I love my '13 Focus running like a dream at 73,000miles. I have to admit that in traffic, I drive it like a manual, NO "creeping", NO using the clutch as a "hill holder" AND just plain driving it to keep the clutch pak as cool as possible with "deliberate actions when accelerating! Unfortunately, MOST of the "power shift" owners have NEVER owned OR driven a MANUAL transmission AND the salesmen would NEVER tell the buyers that these vehicles REQUIRE DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES, otherwise it would be NO SALE!! CHEERS!
Great video. Thanks. I`ve wanted to get mine changed but seen warnings that it`s not a good idea and even that the gearbox can be damaged by changing???! I wonder if you have any ideas about also adding 5% ZX1 with the new oil? Thanks again.
Great video. I own a 2014 Ford Fiesta so this was great information. I don't do my own mechanic work, but like to know as much as I can about my vehicle as this is the first "new" car that I have owned. If you get the change, it would be good to show how to change the engine air filter and cabin air filter as this is something that I could like to do myself rather than paying someone to do for me.
14,200 miles on my 2017. Car is still like new and I am original owner but now that 5 years is passing I am starting to think about some maintenance I could do beyond an oil changes.
so glad I got the manual transmission in my '12 focus. shifts smooth with 48k never had a problem. sounds like these transmissions are garbage unfortunately.
ojars zvaigzne dude I’m using motul multi DCTF (same spec as Ford DCTF) but waaayyy too cheaper hehe... works well man but I may try to Add 2ml of Bar’s stop leak per quart of DCTF Just to make sure the seals Will stay stable...
You can't lol , it take 1 .8 quarts the 2nd quarts should have .2 remaining when adding i would jack up the car on the driver side to add as much as I can if its short its going to slipp on first going up hill
The fill plug is on top of the trans near the air box. It's very hard to see. The plug he is referencing is the oil level plug, not the fill. So fill from the top until it comes out the oil level plug. Don't forget to put the drain plug back in.
very good video. I have a 2016 Focus 1.0L with the 6F15 transmission that is making some whining noises. I wanted to check the fluid level. I assume the drain plug is in the same location?
Great video. Can you please tell me what is the size of the extension you use to drill the fluid because im confused. Some people says that is 3/8 and some other says that is 5/16. what is the exactly size for a 2012 ford focus?
Hey FordTechMakuloco, great informative video! Looking at the car from the front, is the oil pan BEFORE the trans or AFTER it? Thanks a lot in advance!
Great video with tons of info. If the dealer has changed the clutch pack under warranty would this fluid have been changed also? Thank you for your videos.
+rallyguy132321 No we used to drain and fill the fluid as part of a clutch replacement but now Ford sent out plugs for the axle seals so you don't have to drain the fluid when servicing the clutch.
I bought a 2012 Ford Focus (LW series) brand new. The transmission/TCM has been replaced twice (under warranty). The current transmission / TCM is only 4 years old. I was also told (by Ford) that they are 'sealed for life'. Now I am totally confused. The transmission seems fine (aside from the occasional 'shudder' when coming to a stop).
I used a oil bottle with a hand pump from some hand cleaner and just hand pumped the fluid into it with clear tubing made it eariler got me rather then the funnel
It would cost a TON of money, unless you can do it yourself. You have to remember that the electronics will need to be re-calibrated in addition to the mechanical work. Why not just find a used Focus with a manual gearbox, save yourself a LOT of headaches!
YES! The "wet clutch" does a MUCH BETTER job of dissipating heat than the "dry clutch", but owners still complained of problems with the German cars because they are still going to "feel" like manual shift!
Thanks. Just swapped one of these transmissions and was wondering the capacity. 2qts it is. Im filling through the overflow tube location since i have the battery and tray out.

Have Fun!
They work okay with the thicker differential gear oils? I hate those hand pumps.
In this case, using a long funnel ($1@ "Dollar Tree) and filling through the "breather tube inlet" is a LOT easier AND WAY cheaper, IMHO!
Love the color of the old fluid!
I use those same funnels with 3/8" tubing from Home Depot
Which is always the correct choice, especially in cold climates.
im glad you actually say "foot pounds" like you know how torque is actually measured, bravo!
what i do for my focus st and my 01 zx3 is bought x2 of the cheap funnels with the corrugated tubes you can get from any auto parts store, take the second tube off, trim the tapered end off and use some heat shrink to marry the tubes together, then from up top run the tubing down to the trans. Love the videos brother.
Bro you're a lifesaver. They designed the location for the fill plug so funky.
Changing ur fluid and having a strong battery and driving with a heavy foot until she shifts to a higher gear is essential in my opinion to good shift quality and not letting other people drive ur car.

that makes sense, about strong , clean battery contacts .. is esential
Wow you linked to everything we need! That's so awesome!
Pretty well put together vid, the explanation , tools, fluid quantity are on spot!
Thanks Mak, great job, good photography and well lit so we can see everything as you are doing it, and great explanations for everything, with a good pace, two thumbs up!
Good job! I had an H of a time getting the fill plug off, it was really tight. Made sure I did that first.
this is a good highway car. it's terrible in town in stop and go traffic.I don't see how mine is still in one piece as as much as it bucks and bangs when it tries to shift.
john c mine too, friend. I keep wondering if mine is exceptionally BAD or just the average BAD... Either way, it certainly isn't good.
Agreed. We have a 2012 as a fleet car. 180K miles and it's 99% a highway car. It sucks in stop and go or in town, worst auto trans I've ever driven.
Cause the transmission is horrible my ford focus on the freeway is amazing. However, stop and go is terrible a lot of shuttering and slipping gears.
Now 2021 and $32 a Quart. Thanks for the Video
Thank you very much for posting all of these videos. You have saved me boatloads of money.
Awesome video! Just did my 2015 Ford Focus. Big difference in driving.
My car is at 155,000km the oil was black, the user manual says change at 160,000km. So that a bad idea.
I’ll do it again in 60,000km as it easy to do.
Thanks for the video!!
hey how did trans last? been 2yrs? i got 165000 so expecting black gunk
For more convenent filling is to use a clear tube that is just a little bit smaller than the fill opening.
That is what I did. I used clear tubing attached to a funnel. I put the funnel in the engine bay next to the battery and used a spring clamp to hold the clear tubing inside the transmission. I could then slowly fill it until it started to run out ( about 1.6 quarts.)
What size clear tubing? 3/4, 1/2, or something else?
Thanks again, your videos are always on point, this helps me a lot.
That's a satisfying fluid change for an "automatic" transmission, not much fluid and no pan to drop. This trans is all over the news, please make a video about all the complaints.
Also add the Hyundai DCT problems involving class action lawsuits for the SAME problems, BUT different transmissions!
Everyone has always told me this is a “dry transmission” and doesn’t need any fluid but I knew they had no idea what they were talking about. Looks like it’s time to change this as I’m at about 50k on mine and it’s been giving quite a bit more shutter lately compared to the past
Dry Clutch system only.
I just hit 45,000 on mine. And that shuttering is getting much worse. I'm hoping changing the fluids will help
@@FordTechMakulocofor Ford fiesta S 2012 outomatik 1,6 cc 1 liter oil only transmission
It's a beautiful designed transmission if you understand it and change the fluid.
this is the most descriptive and helpful video i have found on the subject. thanks tons man. really needed this one.
I believe there is a vent plug that you can reach under the hood, pull that plug and you can get a funnel in there and fill from the top instead of that dumb check plug.
I have a special drain and fill tool makes it easy
I love the ministry God has given to you
You're vids are truly great man!
I was so pissed when I found out my Focus had this and not an automatic trans. I have had nothing but trouble out of these trans, for lack of a more appropriate description, THEY SUCK! But now I can change the fluid my self, so Thanks.
Tom's tune if you are out of warranty now. Hell, I'd do it after the warranty on clutches goes out.
Good video it helped but both the fill plug and drain plug are both t50 learned the the hard way lol listening to you
I have a 2014 Focus with the DPS6 and I'm almost positive that the issue lies within the software.
Glad to hear Tom's tune did the job for you. I have his base tune. We are trying to work out a lean condition at idle. Suspected to be the 02 sensor.
I have a 2012 Focus and would be very interested in this tune you are talking about. How can I get in touch with this guy Tom tat you are talking about? I would like to learn more about this. Thanks so much for your help.
@@carguy5763 Google Focus Power Tuning or make an account on the Focus Fanatics forums.
@@TheOzthewiz true, and people have to drive them differently, if they want theirs to last.
I use a modified weed killer pump sprayer to fill these odd fill locations. Eliminates a lot of mess and wasted fluid.
The only way i would own a fiesta is with a manual transmission.
papawoody exactly
I got a 2015 focus with the dual clutch automatic transmission an I like it
GrassFedMeats it only has 117k I got it from the original owner that maintenance it well I paid 4600 for it I got a really good deal on it for being a 2015 there’s no problems with it now but I rarely even drive places I would put 700 miles a year on my 2010 focus I had I made a video of the 2015 focus I got on my channel
Too late for me lol.
Thank you for making this video available. Went to "quick lube" type place, they couldn't even find the fill plug, which makes me wonder if they even would then have had the knowledge to use the proper fluid? Love the car, hate the shudder (from starting off from a stop)
You gotta drive these things fast and make it shift hard a few times to clean off the clutches.. shudder most of the time will go away
@@bartfox9187 EXACTLY! DON'T creep in traffic AND ABOVE ALL, DON'T USE THESE TRANSMISSIONS AS "HILL HOLDERS"!!!!!
Your "problem" is NOT bad fluid. It's the "clutch paks"!
Thank you for more great instructions.
Great video, detailed fast and 100% understandable.
Great video. I have a 2015 Focus and I’m going to get this done myself when the time/milage come.
I got this done on my 2015 focus but for some reason after 1.6 quarts it was full. Can any one tell me why it only took 1.6 instead of 1.9 quarts? It also drain about that same amount, 1.6
@@hemipowersrt6773 There was some still left in the Torque Converter...........ONLY KIDDING!

Such a great video thank you so much. My transmission is overheating I guess it needs transmission fluid.
Can't you add fluid on the top thru the vent hose.. mine pulled straight out seems like that's best place to fill. Take plug out on side to let extra come out...
Or is this not correct 🤔
Thanks for the great video!
CHEERS!
@@TheOzthewiz people are silly. Just tweak your driving habits. It's not that hard.
Thanks, this was a big help.
If the clutches of the transmission have some problem like a vibration, can I change the transmission fluid?

Thanks man I haven’t changed fluid yet n two years it’s started whining so Ig I have to change it
Thanks!!! This was great!
Cool vid pal. Best of luck to ya.
After changing the fluid on my 2013 focus, it shifted much better. I don't understand why ford says the fluid does not need to be changed.
For the same reason that Ford says you can go up to 10K miles for engine oil change!
It's the tuning of the transmission. The trans itself is solid. There's a tuner that's figured the problem out.

The fill plug is on top of the trans near the air box. It's very hard to see. The plug he is referencing is the oil level plug, not the fill. So fill from the top until it comes out the oil level plug. Don't forget to put the drain plug back in.
Exactly, just make sure the car is LEVEL!
Can you describe briefly how to locate it? Thanks
That's what I thought .. it has a vent tube hooked to it

FordTechMakuloco Good to know. Thank you for all you do.
WHY? The clutch pak is SEPARATE from the transmission!
I used a oil bottle with a hand pump from some hand cleaner and just hand pumped the fluid into it with clear tubing made it eariler got me rather then the funnel
have you seen anyone swap out the dps6 for a manual transmission? I found one guy on a forum that did it. Just interested in your thoughts on that.
Anybody have any thoughts or experience with this?
I'm tempted to do the swap. Did you find any good info about it? Guessing it would at least require a pedal assembly swap and possibly ECU as well.
Robert Rice and a different trans harness
It would cost a TON of money, unless you can do it yourself. You have to remember that the electronics will need to be re-calibrated in addition to the mechanical work. Why not just find a used Focus with a manual gearbox, save yourself a LOT of headaches!
If no tq wrench is this right in general, snug then gasket type 2/3 turn, taper type1/8 turn.
I did a video on servicing the wet clutch Powershift transmission found on the Mondeo/contour/fusion. They seem more robust than these DPS6 ones
Badgertronix Robust here in PH is an herbal Viagra :)
YES! The "wet clutch" does a MUCH BETTER job of dissipating heat than the "dry clutch", but owners still complained of problems with the German cars because they are still going to "feel" like manual shift!
The "wet clutch" will handle higher torque loads, but is less efficient than the dry clutch..
Thanks. Just swapped one of these transmissions and was wondering the capacity. 2qts it is. Im filling through the overflow tube location since i have the battery and tray out.
To be exact it's 1.9 quarts as per Ford spec!
