Hi Sandy, it’s so good to see you again on book tube. My life has been topsy-turvy lately with a wedding in my family. But I love nonfiction and I’ve been reading it pretty consistently over the year. Take care friend. Aloha
Hi, Sandy! First time visiting your channel, and I like your relaxed, upbeat vibe. 😊 Just subscribed, and I look forward to watching more of your videos! Great variety of NF books here! 'An Immense World' was very interesting, and I love HW Brands' excellent history books, especially 'The Age of Gold' and 'Dreams of El Dorado.' I enjoyed (not quite the right word...) 'Nickel and Dimed' when I read it, and 'Evicted' looks intriguing. Wise choice to take it slowly as you ease back into reading more. Enjoy yourself! Read what makes you happy during this cozy time of year. 🍁🍂📚☕📚🍂🍁 I just started a BT channel and put up my own NF November Pile of Possibilities. Like you, I'm sure I won't get to all of them, but that's fine. For me, it's about having plenty of interesting books and freedom of choice! 😎 Happy Reading! ~ Kim
Thanks in part to Olive's initiative, probably about 20 - 25% of my reading is nonfiction. I think you are right about NFN having a life of its own now. Great to see you popping up and I completely agree that you shouldn't pressure yourself, keep focused on enjoying your reading, the old quality over quantity adage makes complete sense. 🍁
Lovely to see a video from you Sandy. I do think NFN will live on after this year. It’s such an ingrained part of the reading year at this point. I hope things settle into a routine for you soon!
I don't change my reading based on the time of year (no such thing as a summer read or a beach read or a fall read, for me). I always have one fiction and one nonfiction going (sometimes a poetry book thrown in as a 3rd read). The nonfiction I'm reading now is "Recollections of My Nonexistence: A Memoir" by Rebecca Solnit. So far I'm enjoying it.
I love it! I have tried to have a nonfiction and fiction read going at the same time but it always seems to fall off for some reason. I have also tried to have a nonfiction TBR for the year but that hasn't worked for me yet either. Happy Reading!
Yay video! And I agree November will still be nonfiction November for me. Oh that is tiny print! Oh I am Malala for shot is good. I still haven’t read that. I will go do my Voxer now 😊❤ 🍃 🍁 🍂
Hi Sandy! Glad to see you pop up in my subscription feed. Totally understand life happens and things needing to be put on hold. Hope you have some enjoyable reading during November! 🍁
It’s so good to see you again. I Am Malala and An Immense World are both on my pile of possibilities in November. Haha! I hope you are able to manage at least some reading time this month!
Sandy! I get it with all the little breaks. I’ve been struggling to get back into a regular rhythm as well. Praying for a quick recovery for your knee. I might be able to get to one non-fiction book this month. We’ll see…
I'm always happy to see an update from you! It sounds like a crazy year for you. Though in a good way, I hope - hope the new job is going well. So great to find a series you don't want to end! I've been meaning to read Evicted - thanks for the reminder. The Alaska memoir sounds fascinating. Olive says she takes a VERY flexible, loose approach to the challenge words! I Am Malala is excellent. Seabiscuit is fabulous - Laura Hillenbrand is such a talented writer. of gripping narrative nonfiction. She has the same disease I do and wrote most of Seabiscuit while lying on her back in bed with her eyes closed, on a pad of paper with a pencil! Makes it even more remarkable. Sounds like a great pile of possibilities! Definitely go easy on yourself and enjoy your reading :)
Nice to see you! I've got several non-fictions on the go (I'm NOT starting a new one) but only two remotely fit and they happen to be the one's I'm currently reading: "Jane Austen's England" [social codes], and "The Dublin Railway Murder" [path]. For shot I could, but won't, start "King, A Life". For join, there's "To Be a U.S. Secret Service Agent". Lots more choices, I'm sure, but my tablet's not cooperating and my brain is too tired for mind games. :)
It's great to see you. No worries that you have been away from BT. Life happens and you'll make it back to your previous ways when you can. Right now I feel like those of us in the US feel significant stress from the election and it adds to whatever personal stress we have, so definitely be kind to yourself.
How lovely to find a new video from you in my subscription section 😊 When I make my reading goals at the beginning of each year, I always set it that at the end of the year, at least 25% of all the books I've read are non-fiction. I'm currently standing at 32%. I don't have a set tbr for November. However, in January 2023, I started reading "Women who run with Wolves" and have yet to finish it 😅 I'm really enjoying it. It's just a bit full on, and I wanted to pace myself and really take it in. I have around 150 pages to go, and I'm determined not to go into a third year. So, in honour of non-fiction November, and to celebrate you being back, I will TRY to finish it by the end of November, instead of the year 🤞 *it would be wonderful not to see it on my storygraph page each time I go in there* Good luck to you, too. Just remember to be kind to yourself and don't push through if you're not enjoying it. Reading is supposed to be a pleasure, not a chore ❤
Thank you. It probably helps that I'm probably considered a bit nerdy, so I enjoy certain history topics, nature/environment, stories of overcoming adversity or women bucking the system/norm. I just recently read Grandma Gatewood on your recommendation and loved it. It ticked a lot of my interests. Often, I go through audible free books and see what sounds interesting in their non-fiction, so I end up reading about people or things that I may never even considered before. My local librarian says I have very eclectic reading tastes, so I think it helps if you just enjoy reading, I guess 😅
Yeah, I agree. Nonfiction November is a Thing now, enough that I knew about it long before I knew about the person running it. I'll probably focus on nonfiction and Netgalley in November, every November, just for the alliteration value, if nothing else.
Omg hello stranger long time no see I have really missed your smiling face praying for you and your family love your Aussie family friend John ❤❤❤also letting you know that I have lost my mom due to cancer and my wife has dementia that is moving quickly as well xxx
🍁 Always lovely to see a video from you. For Non-fiction Nov. I'm reading "The Life and Lies Of Charles Dickens" by Helena Kelly. I'm not even going to try to fit it into a prompt word, it just feels like the one to read at this time of year.
I think the book you’re thinking of is “Nickeled and Dimed” by Barbara Ehrenreich. It was interesting. I read it a year ago. The dollar amounts of wages , tips and rents are a bit dated due to passage of time. However, the premise of her undercover observations and experiences are still very valid. Since NF November is so entrenched among the book tube community it’s very possible someone else may pick up the hosting reins. This year I will be listening to “The Worst Hard Time”, Timothy Egan’s account of the 1930’s dust bowl years. Also, I hope to read “The Snakehead” by Patrick Radden Keefe. He did a deep dive into the human smuggling trade between China and NYC. 🍁🍂🍂🍁 Good luck with your new job. 📊💻
I've been having a hard time reading lately. I'd like to participate in Nonfiction November with at least one or two books though. I have ideas for code and path. For code, there's a book about the history of dress codes and one about Navajo code talkers in WW1. Most of the time we only hear about the ones in WW2. For path, there are two books about the green book that used to help African Americans travel more safety.
I love it!! It was really nice to not to have so much on the go. Reading was feeling a little forced. I think I will be able to strike a better balance after this break.

Yay to a video. Hope you can get back in the swing of it.
I am getting there! I actually recorded 2 videos last week :) Woo hoo
Yay video! And I agree November will still be nonfiction November for me. Oh that is tiny print! Oh I am Malala for shot is good. I still haven’t read that. I will go do my Voxer now 😊❤ 🍃 🍁 🍂
It is hard to believe that I haven't read it yet!
Hi Sandy! Glad to see you pop up in my subscription feed. Totally understand life happens and things needing to be put on hold. Hope you have some enjoyable reading during November! 🍁
I hope they are good picks!
Good to see you. Long live Novembers of nonfiction. 😊 I thought I was the only one who hasn’t read I Am Malala. 💙
Thanks Jolene! I have tried to read I am Malala so many times! Maybe this is my month!
It’s so good to see you again. I Am Malala and An Immense World are both on my pile of possibilities in November. Haha! I hope you are able to manage at least some reading time this month!
Thank you so much! I am really excited about my nonfiction pics!! Woo hoo! Hoping for some 5 star reads!
I was just thinking of you...glad to see you back! 🍂🍂🍂🍂
Aww thanks! It is good to have a video!
Hey Sandy, nice to see you! Another ambitious TBR, I see. And a new job! Hope you're liking the new situation :D
right? it is very, very me! let's see how many I am actually able to read
Sandy! I get it with all the little breaks. I’ve been struggling to get back into a regular rhythm as well.
Praying for a quick recovery for your knee. I might be able to get to one non-fiction book this month. We’ll see…
Thank you so much! The knee had a set back last week but is feeling better today! off to the dr on Monday and will hopefully get a diagnosis for it!

I love this event. It has always been one of my favorites. So many great books on my TBR. I really hope to get to them
I am sad it is the last non fiction November, so i am celebrating with as many
NFN videos as i can!
Great picks Sandy :)
Sounds like a great way to celebrate!

I can appreciate a brain too tired for mind games! looks like some great picks
Take your time and thanks for this video. I thought Evicted was an amazing book, I hope you'll enjoy it!
I am very excited to pick up Evicted but know it will probably gut me

Thank you so much! I think taking a break was a good thing for me. I now hope for some balance but consistency
Great to see you! Hang in there and keep reading and don’t stress about the big project!
Thank you so much!!
Welcome back! 🍂
Thanks Greg!

awww thanks! 1/3 of your reading as nonfiction is amazing!

Looks like a fab non-fic TBR! 🤩
Right??? I will be sorry to see it go

Nice! I love Netgalley but tend not to use it very often. I want to make sure i have time to actual do them justice. I hope you get some good picks
Evicted is a really good gut punch.
Oh boy! That really makes me want to read it
🍁
Omg hello stranger long time no see I have really missed your smiling face praying for you and your family love your Aussie family friend John ❤❤❤also letting you know that I have lost my mom due to cancer and my wife has dementia that is moving quickly as well xxx
I am so sorry to hear that news! I am happy I could provide some smiles for you! Dementia is a horrible disease. Hang in there

Are you thinking of "Nickel and Dimed?"
Oh my gosh! YES! that is the exact book

@@mame-musing that is the book!! Was very eye opening when I read it. Such an interesting read.

Wow. the dress code book sounds really interesting! I hope you reading struggles go away soon!
I don't think non-fiction November will end. Olive will stop hosting it. It seems that the event is well established and will continue.
It is such a good event! I love it! I hope she changes her mind in the future!
Welcome to the normal world of reading "only" 3-4 books a month 😁
I love it!! It was really nice to not to have so much on the go. Reading was feeling a little forced. I think I will be able to strike a better balance after this break.
