This video actually made me think that it could be a fun video concept to read books by authors you love with premises that aren't for you - and/or books by authors you've previously not liked with plots that sound like they absolutely were made for you
Such a love/hate relationship with these videos because I always enjoy watching them and get excited about your recommendations, but my TBR does not need to get any longer 😅
My favorite part of this video was when you confidently said you've never read from Rachel Gillig before 😂Kayla's just really trying to erase One Dark Window from her memory
Hey Kayla, im so happy that you are continuously rejuvenated by books and stories. I a very happy that you are not burning out. I am lucky to have you and your content! Thank you for your endless creativity and videos and thoughts. I love watching you!
Okay, that Blob book sounds wild! I’m in! 😆 I’m also very much looking forward to Charlotte McConaghy’s new book, Wild Dark Shore, coming out in March. The cover is beautiful.
I’ve been organising my pre-orders and anticipated releases for next year this week so this is perfect timing! Thanks for putting the new Karen Thompson Walker on my radar I had not seen that, I also loved The Dreamers and liked Age of Miracles.
3:59 - As someone from West Virginia, ‘The Listeners’ is so funny to me. In West Virginia, we have a luxury resort/ hotel called the Greenbrier located in White Sulphur Springs. The resort has ties to the Cold War because Congress had them build a secret fallout bunker under the guise of adding on a new wing of the hotel. I just love that Maggie definitely got inspired by our little state
The Library at Hellebore sounds so great! There were some evil academics in The Salt Grows Heavy that it makes me think of, and as that book was one of my favorite reads this year, I cannot wait to pick up Hellebore.
I got arcs for Blob and Immaculate Conception recently. Excited for both! Blob because it sounds wild 😂 and immaculate conception because I loved natural beauty.
I’ve been posting by most anticipated releases, I’m soooooo excited!!! There are so many good books coming out! Have you heard of The Colony by Annika Norlin? It’s translated from Swedish, and about a cult 😍 so up my alley!
Hi Kayla! Just a thought about "Don't Sleep with the Dead" A lot of Great Gatsby references. Both Jay Gatsby and Nick Caroway are protagonists in The Great Gatsby and F.Scott Fitzgerald (who wrote The Great Gatsby) wrote a book called The Beautiful and the Damned which is fiction but based on his life. Makes me interested.
I Think it’s because books are so GIVING in a way make up and fashion never could be. But Im happy you are happy! Great video added a lot of books to my want to read on Goodreads 😁
how do you keep up with new releases? i want to be on top of it but don’t know the best way to keep up to date. i mostly find out on accident. also, i love The Great Gatsby. I read a YA retelling with queer characters called Self-Made Boys and loved it. i also love Nghi Vo’s singing hills cycle so i might try this new one and its first book. but i tried reading another full length Vo book and couldn’t get through it so im nervous.
MY FAVORITE SERIES (not the favorite for my wishlist but oh well you can't have it all haha) SO many interesting books here once more! Listen, that Riley Sager book.... sounds... real good?! A MAGGIE STIEFVATER?! Omg?! I'm a fan of the hotel, but not the time setting The Baby Dragon Cafe, OMG HOW CUTE - Dragons for the creature videos series?! Blob. Just. Yeah. Yep. Sure.
Love these videos! I could happily never read another WWII book. Don’t we have too many already? The Dream Hotel sounds promising. I’m very into speculative fiction right now
Welp, I guess I have 3 more pre-orders. And they all release in July?! Oh no I will have to make some choices. Haha. But The Library at Hellebore, The Starving Saints (I reeeally want to delve into more medieval horror after loving a short story I read a couple years back), and Tenderly, I Am Devoured all have my interest.
Kayla : i don't like dragons in books I shouldn't reason this Kayla : omg they roast the coffee that's so cute!! Girl 😂❤ you definitely need to read it
Have really enjoyed other books by Laila Lalami such as The Other Americans and Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits, both about immigrant experiences. This new one sounds so different!
i always love these videos!! and im also currently struggling with the decision of whether to give authors ive disliked or only liked one book from another go. life is too short to pick books i might not like but what if i love them?????
I’m a little confused at the “cover to be revealed” for The Listeners because I really love the image! Seems kinda random for them to use a temporary cover image that does look finished already 🤔
Apologies for asking for booktuber recommendations on a booktubers video, I understand it's rude BUT... does anyone have any recommendations for similar channels to Kayla?! I love the content, the challenges she does, the variety she reads from.. but she doesn't post everyday and I need more ! Thanks everyone and Kayla, keep doing what your doing, I love it!
Ok, hear me out, I really loved Blob. I originally hated it and didn’t know why I was reading it but I really got into the book later on. It’s funny, weird and different.
Nothing to do with “Blob” except for the fact that Aimee Bender blurbed it and she was overlooked in (your first?) Reading Books Blurbed by Authors series! I like her writing, but I do think you might find Bender’s short stories to be too short… anyway! A wrong that needs righting 😂😂
Lol this caused me to look up Peach Pit on Kobo and instead of a summary they've accidentally posted their promotional plan, which mentions your channel by name...
oh im so happy u hinted at the guessing covers video bc im ALWAYS looking forward to those
my favorite series/videos she posts 😭😭😭 always feel so spoiled
Cover artist of Be Gay Do Crime here! Everyone worked so hard on this book and I can’t wait until it’s count in the world😇
🎉
This video actually made me think that it could be a fun video concept to read books by authors you love with premises that aren't for you - and/or books by authors you've previously not liked with plots that sound like they absolutely were made for you
That sounds super cool, would 100% watch that
@@angelekay3843 That's the answer to the age old question of "what's a girl to do?" Read it and make a video about it!
Such a love/hate relationship with these videos because I always enjoy watching them and get excited about your recommendations, but my TBR does not need to get any longer 😅
Watch ‘Blob: A Love Story’ get 3.13 stars on Goodreads but be both of our favorite books of the year 🤣💕
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I never get bored of books, watching you talk about books, looking at books, reading books.
I hope there’s a baby dragon vlog on the horizon 😍 your reaction to the summary was just too adorable (my reaction was the same)
V E Schwab has a new book coming out called Bury Our Souls in the Midnight Soil. All i know about it is LGBTQ+ vampires, but i’m sold
I need that!!
I love the idea of a cafe with baby dragons that book sounds really good and adorable
So excited for the hints! I'm always rewatching the other cover videos :D
Yesss I was thinking about rewatching a video of yours tonight, this is perfect timing!!
Okay, that Blob book sounds wild! I’m in! 😆 I’m also very much looking forward to Charlotte McConaghy’s new book, Wild Dark Shore, coming out in March. The cover is beautiful.
I want that book so bad!!! Charlotte McConaghy is my favorite author!
I’ve been organising my pre-orders and anticipated releases for next year this week so this is perfect timing! Thanks for putting the new Karen Thompson Walker on my radar I had not seen that, I also loved The Dreamers and liked Age of Miracles.
i need to learn to organize my anticipated releases 😂 i just add everything to my goodreads or storygraph tbr shelf, never to be seen again
I'll pick up the Emily Henry and Bethany Morrow books. Thanks, Kayla!!

I love that you love your youtube job! And reading! Thank you!
these videos are some of my absolute favorites that you make 💜 I find so many books to preorder that I wouldn't have heard of otherwise
I think you did read from Rachel Gillig before, One Dark Window? Unless I'm remembering incorrectly 😅
i’m 99% sure she read One Dark Window. i remember i thought about reading it but didn’t based on her review.
We’re lucky to have you Kayla ☺️☺️
Sooo many books added to my TBR from this vid. Thank you Kayla 🎉
Bestie I just finished writing my book last week. One of my dreams is to have you put that book up as your most anticipated reads lol
The Library at Hellebore sounds so great! There were some evil academics in The Salt Grows Heavy that it makes me think of, and as that book was one of my favorite reads this year, I cannot wait to pick up Hellebore.
My tbr grows exponentially every time you post one of these 😅
I love Riley Sager books.
Added 5 books to my TBR, thank you Kayla! (And how had I not heard of the new Emily Henry yet?! So excited!)
I got arcs for Blob and Immaculate Conception recently. Excited for both!
Blob because it sounds wild 😂 and immaculate conception because I loved natural beauty.
Ooo. The Dream Hotel reminds me a bit of the anime Psychopass.
This is my favorite hair color on you omg MISS 🎉
I’ve been posting by most anticipated releases, I’m soooooo excited!!! There are so many good books coming out! Have you heard of The Colony by Annika Norlin? It’s translated from Swedish, and about a cult 😍 so up my alley!
YAY these are my absolute favorite videos
Oooh, I liked Undead Truth of Us by Britney Lewis, so I'm going to check out Blood Moon. The cover looks soooo Twilight, just slightly updated.
*preorders the baby dragon book immediately*
Starving Saints sound intriguing. Loved luminous dead, struggled with death of jane lawrence.

I have already pre-ordered The Library at Hellebore but to be fair, I am obsessed with Cassandra Khaw's writing.
KAYLA did you see there's a sequel to Vera Wong coming out??? I am SO excited
I LOVE Alex North's books! I'm so excited to find out he has another one coming out!
I Think it’s because books are so GIVING in a way make up and fashion never could be. But Im happy you are happy! Great video added a lot of books to my want to read on Goodreads 😁
I read an arc of Immaculate Conception recently and it is WILD. so good!
Thanks for sharing these upcoming releases ❤
Big year for pirate books next year!!! Marissa meyer is also releasing a Bluebeard retelling!
I've never needed anything more in my life than that baby dragon book
Adding The Baby Dragon Cafe and Kill Creatures to my 2025 tbr! I never read from either of these authors but they sound too good to pass up
For the February video, perhaps check out Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match by Sally Thorne. Not for me, but maybe for you?
My tbr is stacked now - any thanks Miss
how do you keep up with new releases? i want to be on top of it but don’t know the best way to keep up to date. i mostly find out on accident.

There's also the new book by Heather Fawcett, the author of Emily Wilde!! About a cat shelter 🥹

The Dream Hotel sounds promising. I’m very into speculative fiction right now
Surprised that Ocean Vuongs upcoming release isn’t in here!! The Emperor of Gladness comes out next year in June!!
why did the end of this make me cry
The dream hotel sounds so intriguing!
Shocked you didn’t have the new Stephen Graham Jones on here! That Laila Lamani sounds so good
Ohhh never mind. New cover, old book😅
Not sure if it would be a trope for you, but we're getting like 5 or 6 lady night books next year and I think I'm here for it?
Welp, I guess I have 3 more pre-orders. And they all release in July?! Oh no I will have to make some choices. Haha. Please review the book Leya
Can you please give a review on 'leya : deeds in her agony'
Nothing to do with “Blob” except for the fact that Aimee Bender blurbed it and she was overlooked in (your first?) Reading Books Blurbed by Authors series! I like her writing, but I do think you might find Bender’s short stories to be too short… anyway! A wrong that needs righting 😂😂
Would love to see Kayla read The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake
