I remember the first six months of a new job - if there was substance to it - really entailing an adjustment curve, and impossible to keep out of mind. (I didn’t have too many of those.) Reading fell apart for me with _Les Mis_ (which I DNF’d) but it feels better than ever now. As far as the numbers… I still remember you were one book shy of clinching it last year and opted for something else… so I’m not going to sweat it too hard for you 😂 and I’m confident you’ll get on track. 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much! The new job definitely taking a lot of time but I love it so far. Not sure whether I will hit zero this year but I am not too worried about it right now 😍
Glad you are back Sandy. Yes, life does sometimes get in the way of reading. I'm glad you like your new job. I'm about halfway thru Caledonian Road and the jury's still out. I haven't fallen in love with it yet - nor become engrossed with any of the characters. I am curious to see if the story ends up surprising me. I do have James waiting in the wings.
@MsReadsAlot Yes, I did. It was good, but not great. I think he tried to cover too many issues - and yet societal problems are so interrelated so???? While long, one can breeze through it. I just didn't get very invested in any of the characters. None had many redeeming qualities - which is also kind of the point. Okay, it is simple to describe the story - art historian and popular pundit, marries into privilege, struggles with insecurities while enjoying said privilege, has upper crust in laws, childhood friends who achieve great wealth, all connected with the seedier sides of power and wealth. Success comes at the expense of others. It all comes to a head at the end. The outcomes are also a commentary on society. My favorite books are ones where I care about the characters in some way - even if I hate them. This one, I just didn't. I kept waiting.
I have been having a very slow reading month. Had some outpatient surgery and have been struggling with my mental health. Trying to do better next month.
sorry to hear about your health challenges. I hope you are taking the time to take care of yourself. I am going to try and pick up a lighter read to see if that helps me :)
Congratulations on your new job. I hope it's just right for you. 😊 As far as reading goes, I just don't expect myself to read a lot of books. I don't want it to be work, just fun and enjoyable; also the books on my shelves are not alive and do not know that they're being neglected.😆
Thank you so much! I am enjoying the job :) I am going to give myself a lot of grace for this year and just read when I have time and the mood strikes.
I admire how you can get through your countdown when you often have books that you don’t love! I’m reading a lighter read to finish June, Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez. Congrats on.your new job! I bet by the end of July you will be less overwhelmed.
Hey! There’s that face I love! Missed seeing you here💗(but I’ve been gone too!) Currently reading Sansom’s Shardlake series and really enjoying it! I think you might enjoy it.
Congratulations on the new job. I'm sure you'll soon get into the swing of things, I'm glad you're enjoying it😊 I'm reading Hermit: A memoir of finding freedom in a wild place by Jade Angeles Fitton and I'm loving it.
Congrats on your new job! I understand your struggles. I changed jobs last October and my brain was on overload for a few weeks, so I had little bandwidth to read. You'll get back in the groove before too long.
Congrats on the new job! I went looking for your channel this morning because I hadn't seen anything from you lately - I thought it was just my feed/the algorithm! Sounds like some good progress in your 1001 Books goals :) I haven't read anything by Goethe (or the other two authors you mentioned). Hope you enjoy your July reading!
I felt like I was reading IT by Stephen King FOREVER. thankfully that book is finished! July has been pretty slow for reading. we will see if I am able to pick up the pace at all in the coming months.
I'm reading Circe by Madeline Miller. It was recommended by another book tuber. Madeline Miller also wrote The Song of Achilles which I haven't read. Anyway, Circe is really not my kind of book. It has to do with astrology which I'm interested in but I guess you'd call it a fantasy novel which I don't normally read. I like to expand my reading but I'll be glad to finish this one. I'm about halfway through it.
I didn't connect with Circe either! I wanted to but it just didn't work for me. I finished Song of Achilles and thought it was decent but I didn't love it 🤷♀️

I think I need to switch to some lighter reads as well. maybe that will help me want to read more.

Thank you so much! It has just been a lot lately to try and navigate :)
I feel seen. 😂 For the past 2 1/2 weeks I've been reading the same book. Sometimes it's just a slow burn.
I felt like I was reading IT by Stephen King FOREVER. thankfully that book is finished! July has been pretty slow for reading. we will see if I am able to pick up the pace at all in the coming months.
I just started "Klara and the Sun" by Kazuo Ishiguro, I've been looking forward to this for awhile.
Nice! I hope you love it! I haven't read it yet!
I think you're doing great, progress over perfection! Life has its ebbs and flows. Happy reading in July :)
Thank you so much. I appreciate it

@@MsReadsAlot Thanks! I didn't like Piranesi either which is a bit similar.
