Thanks for doing that review Peter, it looks like one of the better units available for the Discovery 4. I have resisted buying one up until now because each one lacks some function that I would expect in a modern system. But this one looks the best so far and it can be mounted in front of the original screen without taking the dash apart! Cheers. Ty

This looks like one of the better carplay add on units I've seen. I've been looking for something like this for my LR4.

I would put it in my old range rover as the stereo technology is so old, it's not much use in the modern world.

Hi Peter, thanks for sharing this other option with us. It looks very good and solves especially our problem: As I commented in another video of yours we have the very basic infotainment without any connectivity, so a lot of carplay options don't work for us. This should solve it and we would be happy to win it for our car.
Btw. we start our roadtrip from hamburg via Austria to Slovenia and will drive some of your recorded trails in the dolomites which I randomly found on wikiloc! Really looking forward to the trip that could be even more awesome with new carplay ;D

Hello Peter, another very good Video. I find it ideal for cars without an entertainment system and i would put it in my kids 1er BMW (2008) then they would have a very nice system in their car. Best greetings to Austria Andre
That is really cool! I retro-fitted an Android Auto/Carplay stereo in my LR3 (Disco 3). Not as nice as that system! Mine is not wireless, and the screen is not a nice as that system! Great find!

In my opinion, Land Rover lagged behind the other brands in terms of entertainment and the head unit until 2016. Only with the Discovery Sport and the Discovery 5 did things start to look up, in my opinion. But there is the possibility to improve it at least a little ;) Many greetings, Peter
I agree, definitely behind the curve. My D4 is Sept 2016 and still doesn’t have as modern head unit as much lower cost vehicles from the same period such as Ford Fiesta and Kia Ceed. Upgrading to integrated CarPlay comes at a high price and requires dash out, so alternatives like this unit has got to be a good alternative. There are some with dual Bluetooth so they can connect to car aux over the air for higher quality and also to the phone.

I want to use this system in my Mini Cooper S JCW Cabrio from 2006, since it's missing satnav, spotify and handsfree options. This device will relief my stress on the road!

Hey Peter, sorry i left my comment on your insta post 🤷 but again, great content as always, i feel my 2011 380000km D4 project needs this amazing upgrade as my touchscreen currently doesnt respond to any touch and this would be a perfect upgrade to modernise the infotainment ready for our family overland trips all across europe and beyond.. all the best from czech republic 👍🏻

@notthatkindofachannel I bought it in December and it had 360000km at that time, but I only bought it knowing it had a new short motor fitted by land rover by the previous owner, so it currently has 100000km on the new crank and block, but it runs well 90% of the time and I also discovered it still has its original from factory Air struts all round, soon to be replaced as preventative maintenance as I'm building it up for long overland trips and plan to take it to I eland and the Sahara desert next year if all goes well 😊
You can now find one that has dual bluetooth. Unit then connects wirelessly to both the phone and the car. Sound quality is much better and the steering wheel controls still work to skip tracks and answer the phone.
Hi Peter. Another great video. Came across your channel as I am thinking of purchasing a D4. This system looks the perfect balance between functionality and convenience keeping the existing stereo and steering wheel controls. It would be perfect in my current D2 for the same reasons.

@@notthatkindofachannel Hi Peter. I was looking for a D3 but my budget at the time only stretched to a high mileage, low spec example so I purchased a top spec good condition pre facelift D2. It has been a fantastic vehicle for the past 8 years but I still feel the D3 / 4 is the ultimate mix of style, luxury and capability. I just need to find the right one for me.

I also own a Disco4 and would love to update it with the system, as particularly the navigation is quite outdated in the original version. Tried out a similar built in system like the one you installed in your car, but my Disco automatically jumps back to the car’s main menu after 2-3 minutes in the ‘Nav’-carplay module and i have not found any remedy for this. So this external solution would avoid these interruptions.

Hi Peter, another interesting video and my click to purchase finger starts to twitch 😊. But the possibility of winning the thing here makes me hesitate a bit. Does the sound come from the car speakers or just the speaker in the back of the unit?
You’ll have the possibility to play it over the unit itself or the car. In my case the sound of the speaker in this video was defaced due to music industry infringement… But the other sound is coming from the Harman & Kardon system. Best, Peter

Great video and I have a Discovery HSE 2012 since new, I have been looking for an easy solution for having CarPlay as my maps are so out of date on the car nav. So put me on your list for your give away. I still like the idea of having a system installed as I like things tidy so using the existing screen is best I think and having access the flip between systems is a good function. Does the supplier offer software updates to fix bugs and add functionality to the integrated system ?

Hi Ron! On the Carpuride system I have not noticed an update button. But I can ask my contact at Carpuride if and how you can make an update on these systems. With the modules of ISUDAR, so the fixed installed there are or were firmware updates which could be installed. However, some users had problems with the connections to your cell phones afterwards. Hey Peter. Your video has convinced me to try this unit out. I cannot get it to play through my LR4 speakers, though. It seems that when I have Android Auto selected it will only audio out to the Carpuride unit speaker. Even with your hack of pressing the audio off/on button on the dash, it pauses the unit music and then starts right back up without ever playing through the car speakers. Any thoughts?
Hey @jonrollins566, I think the problem is that the speaker of the Carpuride system is on. Deactivate the speaker of the system an then try again. Maybe this helps. Best, Peter

Hi, What happens with your reversing camera?
Hey, the reversing camera is still on your old screen. With this mobile system it is not possible to connect your inbuilt cameras. But if your Discovery 4 / LR4 doesn't have a rear view camera anyway, then you can connect an aftermarket camera to the mobile system. Best regards, Peter
How is this unit different from exact same other ones that sell for $100-$150?
Hey! The difference, at least what I have experienced in various forums and articles, is that the cheaper devices have a similar or even partly the same hardware equipment, but the software unfortunately very often does not work properly. Here there are disconnections, repeated crashes of the entire system to a complete failure of the screen. There are also a few that work, but unfortunately, "You get what you pay for" often applies here as well. Many greetings, Peter
Hi peter any chance you can explain a bit more about connecting to the phone and carplay and the discovery at the same time - how you do that from android to enable the steering wheel buttons to work the carplay?
Hey sure, I'll give it a try 😉
1. Connect the iPhone / Android smartphone to the Bluetooth system of the Discovery 4 / LR4.
2. connect to the CarPlay / Android Auto module or screen via Bluetooth or cable.
3. play a song in the CarPlay / Android Auto interface, e.g. from Spotify.
4. intermediate step (not always necessary) If the song is playing but no sound is coming from the car's system, pause the playback by pressing the car's "power button" and then continue by pressing it again. Now you should hear the sound.
5, All done and you should now be able to control everything from the steering wheel.

Hey, yes, it's fine if you don't want to dismantle your dashboard and maybe want to use it in another car. But if you like the original look, then you should go for an integrated module like the ISUDAR CarPlay system. The one with the 10" screen is the Carpuride. Best regards, Peter
