    Konkan Railways is a major rail line on India's western coast connecting Mumbai to Mangalore. It runs through a very difficult terrain of Western Ghats which almost made it impossible to build.
    Despite these challenges it was constructed in 1990s at a cost of ₹ 3,555 Crore.

    Konkan Railway should be an independent entity inside Indian railways. It has marked itself as a unique venture with a good history.

      No it shouldn't be. Indian railways gives no funds and new projects to be taken from Profits. All revenue from stations at Mumbai and Mangalore are taken away from western railway and Southern railway

      Whereas the Konkan railway can provide knowledge on how to make IR profitable step by step.

    Konkan Railway line was made possible because of George Fernandes then Railway minister of India , Madhu Dandavate then Finance minister of India and Ramakrishna Hegde former chief minister of Karnataka state by forming Konkan Railway Corporation Limited in 1990 to finance the project as Indian Railways did not have funds to execute Konkan Railway line from Roha in Maharashtra state to Thokur in Karnataka state. Else this dream of people of west coast would not have fulfilled.
    Whole railway line was completed in 1998 and first train ran complete length on 26 January 1998.

    Manglore central to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Mumbai.
    The distance is 1186 Kms.

    I am eye witness of construction of Konkan railway as rail line was right in front of my house in my childhood. And to tell you. It was not possible to construct by ordinary labours. These were super humans. Hard working. As I was told these were Keralites working in Goa.

    I travel on this route many times , I'm from lko ,my college is NITK in Surathkal,Manglore so I mostly take train from lko to Mumbai and Mumbai to manglore... It is very beautiful train route specially in mansion season😍😍😍🥰

    I HAVE LINKED 36 KMS ROHA TO SAWANTWADI TRACK. BROUGHT CSM MACHINE DRIVING MYSELF FROM FARIDABAD (PLASSER AND THEURER) TO ROHA AND OPERATED MYSELF AND MADE A TEAM OF OPERATORS ALSO. I FIRST LAID TRACK IN CONCRETE IN NATHUWADI TUNNEL 4.5 KMS.

    E Sreedharan was also advisor of Dhaka Metro's MRT Line 6 construction project. He suggested the government of Bangladesh to make MRT Line 6 elevated because it is less costly and people feel more comfortable using elevated metro.

      He was a retired man when he began working on Konkan Railway. Please brush your knowledge. He retired from Railways in 1990. He was retained for future works. Konkan Railways came after 1992.

    Because of the crossings due to single track, most of the trains get delayed by atleast one hour. Doubling of the tracks should be given utmost priority.

    But if you have noticed the famous mangalore express still running on icf coaches and 2 general class coach i guess its high time indian railway should upgrade it to lhb coaches with 4 general coaches two in front two at back i dont know what holding them doing such things

      Netravati Express runs with modern LHB coaches. But both Matsyagandha and Mangalore Jn expresses have ICF coaches..that too very old. Netravati Express was rerouted thru' KR almost at the same time as Matsyagandha Express. This shows the apathy towards Kannadigas.

    Hello, love your videos (thus comparing this video to past ones), please consider following feedback. 1. The specific section dedicated to Sreedharan was good insight into why project was completed in the way it was - please consider doing such sections in other videos as well where applicable. 2. The section for Swiss and mountain rail where you explain relevance of gradient and applicable technology is good too - please have such ‘possible solutions’ sections in other videos as well where there is a comparison with foreign projects. 3. I am sure you may be trying this already but anyway - you can try to make your videos more clickbaity, with such good videos I am sure your channel can grow more.

    Kalpataru is the company electrified Thokur to Bijoor to Verna.. and I am the one electrical Designer who completed this project upto end.
    L&T done electrification from Verna to Ratnagiri.
    Please don't share half half knowledge.

    Irony is that Konkan railway made from Mumbai to Goa but Mumbai Goa highway they not able to finish.

    It happened coz of Late George Fernandes, Railway minister .. .... .he also warned India about Chinese hostile intensions late back in 1998 which is now coming true !!!

    भाई तुमने कोकण रेल्वे की हिस्ट्री तो बता दी पर कोकण रेल्वे के शिल्पकार जिन्होने खुद सरकार से बात करके इस सपने को साकार बना दिया उन श्री मधू दंडवते का नाम भी नहीं लिया उन महान हस्ती का क्या तूमने अध्ययन नही किया????

      @@sathishshetty9371 bro electrification is 100% complete, but doubling is done just for 47 kms, it should be done in all of konkan railways and should be connected to industrial corridors and big cities and tourist places, it will help a lot for economy of the region.

      Yes but not for another 10yrs . The first phase of bullet train is for metropolitan cities and , the next phase is for branching these routes . It's quite expensive but considering we will have 10 trillion + GDP by 2034 it's possible

    It's kokan 'ko' 'Kan' not Conkan 😂😂😂
