20 years later... we got wrecked by AK47s and makeshift bombs.
You forgot to mention that we expelled the Taliban in like a week (almost as fast as they did when taking ground against the ANA). The difference is that the Taliban actually tried to fight us, and still got wrecked at lightspeed.
The war in Afghanistan lasted a week. Same thing would happen if 82nd dropped into Kabul Airport and we invaded again. We drop in on a Monday, and the Taliban would be back in the hills of Pakistan by Friday. We didn't lose the war. Rather, the subsequent occupation, aid, social/educational infrastructure failed at making a wide-reaching impression over those next 20 years. The Taliban literally waited in a neighboring country for 20 years until western aid/interest/patience dried up.
They played the long game (which for them was easy to do since Pakistan was complicit in harboring and supporting them the entire time).
The Taliban never acheived a single battlefield-shaping victory in terms of armed conflict/war against the Americans. They never took ground while the Americans where there. They never seized a COP, FOB, or airfield. They dressed in plain clothes, planted IEDs at night, and scurried to the hills.
The US won the war within a week. Taliban were in Pakistan for 20 years specifically because they lost the war....
Then when America left, the Taliban didn't have anyone to fight and just rolled in.
It's more accurate to say the American occupation was a failure, rather than the Taliban won "the war." Because the only time Americans actively fought the Taliban (and not what was left over in the insurgency)... the Taliban got taken out faster than the ANA.
US didn't lose the war. Where the US lost was the following State Department and DoD effort in trying to achieve COIN on the ground with just military forces. War was over in a week. To have won the occupation, we would have needed to stay until 2100, with generations of families growing up and within (urban and rural) a newer progressive system. 20 years ain't doing anything but giving a small cohort of urban women a glimpse at something new. The majority of the country didn't have a clue as to what "progress" was being made in the capital, and quite frankly they don't care. They only cared about finding their next meal. It's a situation the Taliban have inherited. Get ready for the new reports to come out noting millions of kids are starving to death in Afghanistan. Taliban "won" (I.e. inherited) the same problem the US lost appetite for. They took back the country but inherited ALL of its problems, after 20 years of hiding in Pakistani mountains.
TLDR:
The war had been over for 20 years...of which they never amounted a successful counterattack, reclaiming any territory, or beating the Americans in any sort of defining battle. They blew up vehicles and killed some Arkansas white boys here and there; and raining down IDF for 20 years isn't what I'd call "winning the war." They simply outlasted the American occupation in a neighboring country.

@@John-vm2sqyou're coping. The Taliban already had about half of the country before the American retreat, they weren't just "hiding in Pakistan". America was dropping bombs on Pakistan as well anyway. In reality the Taliban continued to operate and harass American occupation for 20 years until it became too costly and the decision was made to retreat after negotiating with the Taliban for safe passage. The fact that America failed to set up a puppet to continue their policies after they're gone is in fact a defeat.

It’s taranas. They can be amazing natural or done with auto tune. It’s the only form of loud public music allowed with no permission. Other music is only ok in cars, quietly in public to yourself , or if loud.. in compound - or private premises open to public- in which a heads up to Taliban may be needed to host a live music gathering 1) content reasons 2) safety.
The Taliban have taken away lots of freedom in the music culture od afghans to which there is a very big one relative to most other countries on the world , but it is noted that the restrictions are not the same as the first time. So there’s a little bit of a relief. That being said , the statement no music is allowed except taranas is a myth - but it’s based on the reality I just described earlier. Cos yea only the Taliban could complicate and make a whole dynamic out of people playing music out in civilization.
