The Narrowboat Experience, I'm so glad to hear that you made it past Frankton Junction! What a day it's been for you! I remember mooring my boat at Hindford when my family had a walk to Whittington Castle and back to the canal. It was well known to be a place where an old railway used to be when coal was transported by trains, but now if you see the railway, it's dismantled. It is well worth a visit.
I would love to meander gently through the canals, it looks so relaxing and the views are spectacular..!! Do you know if anyone runs sort of a B&B (Boat & Breakfast) that takes passengers on extended trips through the canals..?
Hello you two. Just a little tip to stop your glasses from steaming up in the cold weather, just get a bar of soap and rub the soap onto the lens of your glasses and then gently wipe off. You will have instant non-steaming glasses. Good video keep up the good work.
I'd really like seain a special episode on the theme of "How to dress for different kinds of canal weather". The combinations put on display here made for some chuckles, so I wonder if you can come up with something suitable for snowstorms, hail or other extremes as well. As always, thank you for taking the time to show the canals to us that live far away without any realistic chance of crusing for any prolonged period.

No- the cats go out even when it is cold, but they don't 'stay' out. Having said that they don't stay out much in summer anyway, they are of the spoilt lazy variety.

The dredger digs up some of the silt that accumulates and makes the canal shallow. It's part of the routine maintenance of the network. Yes boats 'bump' sometimes it cannot be avoided.

That’s what I love about the canals, you can wear what you want and no one cares because there’s too much going on to worry about something so trivial. I have an offer on my boat and now an offer on my flat so I just have to find a new boat. Can I ask what size engine you have? I’m assuming it’s an Isuzu 33 or 35 but want to check and to ask what you think about your engine’s performance. For some reason I seem to like Liverpool boats. My current boat is a Liverpool boat and apart from the fact it’s small, I love it. I would happily have another.
The horse-drawn boat is in the Southern section, which is is disconnected from the north section by an unnavigable gap from Maesbury Marsh to Arddlin. One day, eventually, it will be connected.
Had to laugh at the "it never freezes" comment, we were frozen in at Ellsmere for 42 days, thankfully we were near the Tesco and a dripping water tap that never froze. Have you seen narrowboat Ubique in your travels? as that was the boat we lived on for two years and made a blog. Nothing like a vlog though!..:)
Lady aviators flying biplanes and motorcyclists have similar challenges when travelling in the British winter. Lots of leather and woolly fleece would be the go, as long as you don't fall in !

Sub-zero an the isles seems kinda odd, but I guess.. I presently reside near Sechelt BC(Bring Cash).. I’m less then 50 yard from the ocean.. I’ve tried explaining it ta me buddies back home(northern Alberia).. None of them believe me.. +5C here seems colder then -10C there.. It’s all due to all the Humidity in the air, it seem colder at +1 ta +5C, then at 0(zero)C.. Once Zero hits the Humidity begins to drop.. Minus 1C down here seems warmer then +1C, because at -1C there’s less moisture in the air.. I randomly heard some where(in passing), that the furthest point from the ocean in the UK, is only (there bouts) 50 miles.. So I imagine there’s lotsa humidity where you are.. Cold is Cold and the UK doesn’t see extreme Cold(??) weather.. But maybe keep tabs on the mercury and how warm it feels, albeit staying outa the wind.. When yor in the wind it doesn’t matter, when it’s cold out, it’ll blow right threw you.. On the flips side, it looks beautiful.. Even if it's kinda cold..
The canal never freezes because it's fed by a river??? ...... Someone's been pulling on your ropes MeThinks ;-) Even the Thames freezes over occasionally ..... I got photo's of when it did early 80's at Henley, when one of our kids decided to run OUT on the ice just above Marsh Lock ....... #AARRGGHH!!!!! :-(
Moving water doesn't usually freeze so they aren't wrong. I think it depends on how fast the water moves, slower moving waterways are more likely to freeze, so if the canal has a decent current I can see it rarely, if ever, freezing.

Thanks for the tip. My hat was only £3.50 which may sound like it is a cheap hat and I think it is, but what works really well is that it isn't too thick but keeps out the wind. Lined as it is with cheap synthetic. I don't imagine it lasting past this season.

You got that wrong about the Llangollen never freezing. Believe me, it can and does. Many is the winter when I was not able to move for a couple of weeks around Ellesmere and Whixall Moss. My boat would break up to a couple of inches of ice but sometimes it was thicker than that if no other boats had passed for day or so.
you should have gone up the Montgomery canal towards Montgomery in mid wales you would have loved it up there you could have moored up as near to Montgomery as you could go into the village and visited the church and as you walk into the church yard you will come across an highway mans grave who was wrongfully accused convicted and sentenced to death and before he was led away he said to the court to prove my innocence nothing will grow on my grave for a hundred years and what he said came true and as far as I know to this day nothing still grows on it people have tried planting flowers for him and they all didn't grow and im pretty certain that they've tried sowing grass seed and used turf and even the grass seed didn't fertilise and the turf perished and this is a true story as ive visited his grave when I lived in mid wales in a town called Newtown which is not far from Montgomery, it would have made a lovely through the hedge for you

You need to google "Canal Hotel Boat" - there are lots of them on many different canals.
