Greetings from NZ. Loved your video. As a child our teacher told us about the canals, but I couldn't visualize how they worked. Now I see. Nice dogs. Thank you for taking the time to make your video. For people like me. Happy sailing. Joan
My absolute favourite canal. We have visited many times over the years. I always make a point of spending a night or two moored by the mere at ellesmere, the canal is shaded by trees but thirty feet away across the towpath is the mere which is beautiful at dawn, or in the moonlight. At Llangollen I prefer to moor in the basin, moor online and the chances are you'll be bumped repeatedly by the day hire boats and have to endure endless congestion. It's all good fun but not especially tranquil! A walk to the horseshoe falls is a must. And for dining out or just a drink cross the spectacular bridge in Llangollen, take the first right and about a hundred yards on the right there is a fantastic old mill converted into a restaurant. They have a deck seating area than hangs out over the crashing water below and it's a wonderful place to sit and soak up a view unlike any other. We also found the pub at Trevor basin a good laugh- more of a local, a bit tired inside but the food was great and the welcome even better. We ended up joining some locals and getting rather rat-ar**d!
We lost a rudder coming out of the Llangollen canal at Hurlston! We also got stuck on a weir above one of the locks when we were going down and it took the lock keeper and a stop plank to get us off. And we got swept down stream at Grindley Brook staircase when some idiot tried to come down with the 2 bottom locks full!!! Interesting trip!
Hello there, enjoyable veiwing n Very interesting, nice for you, good camera work, nice to see your dog's, Thank you for sharing your video cheers take care see you soon
Hi Mark and Debbie. Like the f--t in the lift...joke ,when we went though Wrenbury lift bridge a few year's ago on a Saturday afternoon church bells ringing a poor bride was the wrong side of the canal as 5 boats passed though the lift bridge at 10 past 3. Yes we find the Llangollen is like most canals. Take care Xx
Just wait till you get further down, it's lovely, (as well as being narrow, windy and shallow of course). You will enjoy the Pontcysytte Aquaduct (pronounced pont-ker-suthsty I think), hope you have a head for heights. Llangollen marina is very nice, but don't moor near the outer arm as the ducks are very noisy. Take a walk further along to the horseshoe falls at the end of the canal, where the river feeds the canal. Keep up the good work, we love your vlogs.
It looks very tranquil. I see Debbie gets a fair workout opening /closing all those gates. Your dogs definitely have a "dog's life". Great videos and I look forward to the next one😀
Hi Debs & Mark. Another great video. Looking forward to seeing the next one as you venture further into Wales. Hope the weather is kind to you. Enjoy your Sunday. Good night from Debbie & Patrick in Christchurch. New Zealand.
Would love to trade boats with a narrow boat. We are in San Diego, California (2-3 miles from Mexico) and have a 45’ sailing vessel. I tend to get seasick and would love to spend time on the British canals as that water looks so calm. Love watching you, Narrow Boat Experience, Silver Foxes, and “the Cut”. Looks like such a calming life style.
I don't think I could cope with the high seas, If I was 10 years younger I would probably give it a go 👍. The waters are clam but it can get busy in the peak season
Well Deck Diaries Hubby was a cruise ship captain recently retired after a terrible fall and injury from top deck. He never gets seasick, however I get motion sickness on boats, planes, and even occasionally in the car. We live aboard our sailboat and I am okay - in our marina slip.
I'm glad you said "pulled onto a Weir" rather than" pulled off a Weir." The two are completely different things and one is not acceptable for daytime viewing.
Another goodie....particularly the drone footage above Hurleston Locks...very good. Came through there several years ago...into the penultimate pound and the heavens opened up ..... became the proverbial drowned rat after a skin full at the Olde Barbridge Inn lol. Is the Willey Moor Lock Tavern still operating, had the pleasure of partaking in a couple of quiet lunch hour pints...a quaint wee pub from memory...beer good too. Cheers Alistair
You were lucky at the staicase when I went through there in 2018 it was also raining but it was manned by a very grumpy CRT lockkeeper. I also got stuck to an overflow weir and had to open the paddles to release the water pressure holding the boat to the side. The amount of water released into the canal at the summit, Horseshoe falls, is regulated; well worth a walk from the basin. It gets more scenic as you go west, don't miss the two branches, well worth the trouble.
Great video, laughed at the weir! I think if you persevere you will enjoy the Llangollen canal as it gets better and better from Whitchurch onwards, and a glorious lock free section is soon ahead of you!
Hi guys, what an adventure already with the by wash but you did it safely. Going to be a day late next week as heading on the K&A tomorrow.whoop whoop. Take care.... stay safe.
The Llangollen canal is actually fed from the Dee just upstream from Llangollen itself, at the horseshoe falls. By Llantysilio, the dee is much lower that the canal. I hope you don't mind my telling you that, but I was brought up in that area and know it well.
We hired a boat from Trevor and did the canal above lower Frankton locks, about 5years ago, in April, once you start up the section and above the aqueduct to Llangollen it is really pretty, but we did not see the bottom half so cant compare, there is a pub with it own mooring area on the left of the canal going up, which we really enjoyed, the Jack Mytton Inn at Hindford but doing a quick google it looks like it may be closed, you might not even like pubs. The Llangollen railway is also worth a trip as is horseshoe falls
Hi guys... Another lovely vlog... Looking forward to seeing the canal views... Loved the drone footage by the way and i hope there will be more on the canal itself... Mark don't take your eye off the ball... Remember canals are not for snowflakes...lol... Keep safe until the next one...
I thought the dogs stole the show in this one. They were so cute! I bet it was a scary moment when the boat got stuck! No harm done so lesson learned I suppose.
What fun! A neighbor of mine here in the Pacific Northwest (Washington State) who is born/raised Welsh, says that Llangollen is not pronounced Langocklan ... but is pronounced Shangoshen. I guess it depends on who you are talking to. :-) I love your videos. Please come back and post more. Or not, if you can't or have moved on. We care about both of you, each of you.
really enjoyable vlog, but then they always are , you two always put a smile on my face , i really them staircase locks , it's alot of hard work sometimes , like foxton flight , That Was hard work lol , gkad yoh did'nt fall OVER the weir lol . 😉
When you are riding the stern up a pair of gates like that, keep the tiller off center. If the fender gets displaced (or is too small), the rudder blade can get stuck between the gates.
If you remember we have a caravan near the start of the Grindley Brooke locks this week the queuing of boats counted 15 waiting to go up Monday morning and late Wednesday 12 at 4pm as they say in pantomimes they are behind you Dave
“A fart in a lift” Howling at that. Glad to see moving along. Looking brilliant. Having a right nice pint as I am watching. TEA??!!?? Good grief, what are you like? 😱😳
Love Chirk tunnel been through on a boat twice and walked all the way through it when we stayed at Lady Margaret Caravan club site at Chirk. I I absolutely live the aquaduct at Trevor. I am hoping that you do in the next vlog or too. And that you also visit Llangollen. We hired a narrowboat from Black Prince 10 years ago from Chirk Marina.
Hi there! Can't believe that a week went by so quickly. I'm glad it did, so I could catch up with another great vlog. Loving to travel with you. Take care!🌼
Because the Llangollen canal feeds the reservoir, which in turn feeds Crewe and Nantwich areas with their water, I don’t think there’s any more flow in winter than summer. I think it might be the other way around.
Hi Deb & Mark, Thanks so much for your vlogs.... I have been binge watching lately and luv your spin on traveling the canals...I watch with envy as I am from Melbourne Australia and would luv to be doing what your doing.... living vicariously through many vlogs traveling and enjoying the canals... cheers Deborah ;)
@@welldeckdiaries5610 Yep would be a dream of mine to be able to live and do what you both are able to do on the canals.....maybe but not now... luv to watch you and others living the dream
Just came across your channel and wanted to say, the drone footage (I have a Mini, as well, and love it!) really adds another dimension to your video. Virtually every narrowboat TH-cam channel is filmed at boat/ground level, but an aerial perspective lets you see "the big picture," know what I mean? I'll be checking out your other videos. Thank you both for sharing!
Another great vid guys as I watch with a Ophir gin & tonic that Mark recommended a couple of vids back. Wish I could do what you both are enjoying, but I don’t think I could get my wife to move to England and live on a narrow boat. Stay safe and enjoy!
Just so you remember, it's Hogs Back Tea. Have to wait till your somewhere near Guildford but it's a right nice pint. We are back home now trying to work out how we can afford a decent boat
I thought you were going to jump up and start singing "walk like an Egyptian" with those hand movements. I am also reminded of Peter Sellers in "Dr Strangelove" ! LOL:>)
I noticed the tea was that because of Marks dodgy sailing lol. I'm just having my Friday night Sherry and enjoying your Vlog as always enjoy Wales and we will see you next week 👍😊
Oh dear, I bet you regret saying it was quiet! The lockie said that over 100 boats went through the staircase locks one day last week 😳. All the best boaters get stuck on that weir 🙄. Keep looking over your shoulders we're coming to get you xx
Hello, I'm making a list of launderettes along the canals and you mentioned one in Audlem. I can't seem to find one there. Any information you might have about it would be very appreciated. Thanks!
I'm blaming TH-cam's 'algorithm' for not letting me see your vlog (or Rich & Fran's) for nearly a week, but it was worth waiting for. I love the way your dogs sit dutifully on the roof - are they on short leads? I can't imagine my little dog sitting around while locking - he'd want to be off with the 'crew' investigating. He's only been 'in' once - on the K&A - and that was because he thought he could follow me after I stepped off a moving boat to do the lock! Questions of the week; Why is it I can never remember the name of your boat? I know most of the others (of the vloggers I follow) but yours just goes out of my head the moment your vlog ends! Why are Deb's shoes so aggressively pink and are you going to get a new boat? Some of the others are! Lovely vlog, as ever guys, thanks.
Hi Roger👋. The dogs are on short leads if not they would jump off when they saw another dog. You'll have to repeat it in you head at bed time, Musu Maja, Musu Maja, Musu Maja,🤣😂 Its Latvian for Our Home
Thanks for your videos! Look like great weather... would love to try the narrow boat experience, but then canals in Arizona are not anything like Great Britain. This week our temperature reached 48C. Ouch! Keep up the good work!
The locks take about 10 mins and the Llangollen is......, well check this out it should answer. your questions canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/canal-and-river-network/llangollen-canal

Hello lovlies, Helen from watton again....can I ask you a quick question. Of all the canal system you have reached so far, do you think a 62ft boat would have any problem fitting the locks you have gone through or any other problems for that matter...do you need to ever take fenders off etc. If I can remember, I think I saw you go into a couple of them at an angle on your 60ft boat. It's just that we have seen a beautiful 62ft boat, but we don't want to make a terrible mistake. Many thanks Helen x..... again lovely video by the way, we just want to get out there are start living the life, take care 😁
We are 60ft and so far we haven't experienced any problems there has always been loads of extra room. I know some of the canals have a max length of 58ft but I've been told you can fit a 60ft in the double locks diagonally, so we will find out when we get to those parts. If you've seen us do them at an angle it because we accidentally let the boat drift across rather that deliberate to squeeze in👍
Those locks looked tight 😳 your using that music again remember the one you cant hear the higher pitch bits during the locks 🤣 did you ever ask your grandchildren if they could hear it ? I bet it was sqeeky bum moment by that weir 😬 enjoy Wales you two 😄
Grindley Brook brings back memories. In 1972 I went with my family on a holiday along the Llangollen. At Grindley Brook our dog, a rough collie, fell into the lock right by the whirlpool caused by the open paddle. We were all on the other side of the lock and a lady who was from another boat very swiftly pulled out one soggy dog. The only thanks she got was a shower. 12 months later we saw the family from the rescuer on a different part of the canal system and our dog ran up to her and made a fuss, she remembered who had saved her. Also at that time all of the bridges had to be lifted using a boat hook and pulling onto a dangling piece of chain, the only one that we did not have to do this with was Wrenbury, which was operated with a windlass.
Hello from the West Coast of the U-S! We really enjoy your videos. Wondering two things: 1) What does your boat's name mean? and 2) What is the closing jazz music you use on all your vids?
You really worked hard on this vlog Deb ,have a G&T on me instead of tea . Has Mark learnt to swear in welsh yet,I thought that weir incident might have been a good practice session *L* Enjoy see you soon
Guss how difficult it is to pronunciate GB words, let alone, understand them. The Llangothlan (?) might be OK but what is a Non-eaten place? By the way, do you know that "OK" originates from Sweden?
You know why you got stuck on that weir Mark? it's because 'no good deed goes unpunished'. That's a 'thing' that is. You take note, every time you do something nice for someone. you will get a shot of bad luck right after - or maybe that's just me:]
I wondered what your childhoods were like, that turned you into such warm, funny, loveable people. You’re a cut above the rest, and I look forward to your vlogs.

Hi Mark & Debs
When ascending staircase locks, all the chambers apart from the top one have an overflow. If you fill to the overflow then there is no danger of hitting the cill when moving to the next chamber.
Metal sheet piling has a horizontal element called waling. It is not Armco as that implies some sort of crash barrier.
Another fine vlog.

Shame your wife wont move to England, I bet you'll miss her 🤣😂
Good one! I bet she’d miss me though, but maybe not?
So good to see you both. :) Lovely viddy. Watch out for the Weir. Yikes. Cant wait to see next weeks. Stay safe!!! ❤❤
Thank you! Will do!
it's in the 90's here in Tenn. USA / enjoy your videos
Oh wow! a bit to hot for our liking
Ours too, we're in the Mountains and this is way too Hot, remember not long ago it was to cold, oh well we'll carry on!
Just so you remember, it's Hogs Back Tea. Have to wait till your somewhere near Guildford but it's a right nice pint. We are back home now trying to work out how we can afford a decent boat
Thanks Barrie, I'd forgotten by the time you went round the corner, Ive just written it down 🤣😂🍺
@@welldeckdiaries5610 that was our first trip on a Narrowboat, harder work than it looks
Good job guys
Thanks Richard
I thought you were going to jump up and start singing "walk like an Egyptian" with those hand movements. I am also reminded of Peter Sellers in "Dr Strangelove" ! LOL:>)
Im actually singing the song and doing the moves right now 🤣
@@welldeckdiaries5610 👈👋👉💓👈✌👍😀. Please, please put in your next vlog! Deborah, make him do it. Love you both, 🍸 Chin chin!
Not very scenic? You wait till you get to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.
👍
All that weir drama and no footage! That would have been great viewing - but scary experience I imagine.
Wish I'd had my camera running but I didn't, and the last thing on my mind was grabbing the camera, I grabbed the rope instead 👍
Another cracking video 👍big happy smiles 😃
Glad you enjoyed it Stuart👍
I noticed the tea was that because of Marks dodgy sailing lol. I'm just having my Friday night Sherry and enjoying your Vlog as always enjoy Wales and we will see you next week 👍😊
Ha Ha, I wasn't banned from the booze, I just fancied a cuppa
Love the video .
Glad you enjoyed it
I am heading towards Bournville, to meet a subscriber. I will check out your garden there and report back to you
Cheers Trev 👍
Hi so are you looking forward to going over that very high aqueduct??😲
Cant wait 👍
Thanks guys 😊🏴
your'e welcome Peter 👍
Great vlog, looking forward to see wales through the canals. Enjoy 💗💗🙏🙋♀️
Thanks so much! 😊
I wonder what the traffic will be like on your return journey.....
Busy
Hello there folks, how are you both? You both look ticker tee boo, which is great. Love the video.
Ticker tee boo 😂 a very British and unfortunately underused saying, that made me smile 😂
If you are still there, is it a lot busier now the hire boats are operating? Lovely vlog, thanks.
I know 😱
Oh dear, I bet you regret saying it was quiet! The lockie said that over 100 boats went through the staircase locks one day last week 😳. All the best boaters get stuck on that weir 🙄. Keep looking over your shoulders we're coming to get you xx
Im so glad we got to enjoy it while it was quiet. this is the busiest we have experienced so far.
Hello, I'm making a list of launderettes along the canals and you mentioned one in Audlem. I can't seem to find one there. Any information you might have about it would be very appreciated. Thanks!
🤔 My memory is terrible, don't remember Audlem, there was one at the Marina in Nantwich and one in a pub The Bridge Inn at Brewood.
do the dogs get nervous in the locks? maybe wondering why Deb is wandering off? and trying to figure out how to help? they appear so well behaved...
They get distressed if they are inside the boat when we are travelling so we have them on the top and they love it up with us👍
I'm blaming TH-cam's 'algorithm' for not letting me see your vlog (or Rich & Fran's) for nearly a week, but it was worth waiting for.
@@welldeckdiaries5610 Latvian!? I wasn't expecting that!
And a new boat? Out of the question, I take it?
@@rogerwhittle2078 Unless I win the lottery or inherit some money from a long lost aunt we will be keeping our boat ❤️
Thanks for your videos! Look like great weather... would love to try the narrow boat experience, but then canals in Arizona are not anything like Great Britain. This week our temperature reached 48C. Ouch! Keep up the good work!
Wow 48C, that a bit to warm for my liking Jerry
Hi both of you, (new subscriber to your channel) great video took me back when I used to have canal boat holidays.
Welcome aboard!
Thanks, looking forward to your next video,
Looks like the CRT could spend a whole winter just fixing the leaks on the lock gates.
Its very rare that we find one that doesn't leak. They have an average lifespan of about 20 years before they need replacing
How long in real time did it take all the locks? How far does Llangollen canal go for?
Love watching canal life....stay safe
The locks take about 10 mins and the Llangollen is......, well check this out it should answer. your questions

What was the musical bit at about 3:50

My favourite canal there is! I hire a boat there every 3 months I love that canal , I have heard they do horse pulled boat rides? Anyway already comment and liking before I watch the video because I know it will be a great video 👑😁
wow hire a boat every 3 months, it would be cheaper to buy one 👍
Well Deck Diaries we’ve joined a membership thing with the company so it cheaper hopefully one day I’ll be in the position to buy one it would be my dream but for now I watch your videos to satisfy my dream😂😂😂😎
You'll find the canal will be quieter than usual as Wales is still fairly locked down unlike England.
I like to pronounce it flan-gof-lan 🙂
I love all the different pronunciations
We'll be on the Llangollen from Monday as we're hiring a boat from Bunbury.
You might bump into us 👍
@@welldeckdiaries5610 we will look out for you xx
We haven't watched your other videos as we follow so many already. We will definitely watch you after we get back from our trip
Love your dogs! What are their names? We visited the UK last fall and thoroughly enjoyed it. Love the videos.
They are called Bonnie (the light coloured one) and Alfie. The are border Terriers x
i'm having a Chinese tonight .. this has been a public information broadcast ... love from me
sorry meant to say ,I used to live in blaenau ffestiniog , amongst the slate mines next to snowdon ,it was stunning , prob still raining there , and as for me takeaway ,that'll be house chow main ,house fried rice ,and sweet and sour sauce , (very exited bout me dinner ,dunno if you can tell ? ) first since lockdown yipee
blaenau ffestiniog rings a bell so im sure we've been there. I know we've been on an old steam railway that had ffestiniog in the name.
Wow could just eat a Chinese right now, well not a real live Chinese but a Chinese meal
@@welldeckdiaries5610 yeah you prob did letchworth slate quarry ,and angel falls (pathetic in summer ) goddam ryt dangeroose in winter , Porthmadog railway narrow gauge , and some gold panning ,nice to see doggos enjoying the sun ,ready for the scary bit ? and it is weird I cycled along it ,and it made me feel ryt wobbly xx
I bet it was sqeeky bum moment by that weir 😬 enjoy Wales you two 😄
Forgot what music it was as we can hear it🤣😂. Debbie wasn't impressed with the weir incident.
Wow, great story about your dog, so glad it had a happy ending👍
What a lovely story! I rescue spiders &c &c most days but I'd like to rescue someone bigger one day
Hello from the West Coast of the U-S! We really enjoy your videos. Wondering two things: 1) What does your boat's name mean? and 2) What is the closing jazz music you use on all your vids?
Its Latvian for Our Home, As for the music its a 30 second clip that came packaged with the editing software I use its called travel
You really worked hard on this vlog Deb ,have a G&T on me instead of tea .
Has Mark learnt to swear in welsh yet,I thought that weir incident might have been a good practice session *L*
Enjoy see you soon
Im now off to google some Welsh expletives 😂🤣
Sorry sucked into! and Vloged, must have been a typo! hehe
👍
So how high do you climb on average, with each lock?
They all vary but I'd guess on average about 7 foot
Guss how difficult it is to pronunciate GB words, let alone, understand them. The Llangothlan (?) might be OK but what is a Non-eaten place?
By the way, do you know that "OK" originates from Sweden?
Ok, well I do now 👍
Mūsu Māja 👍
👍
How do you pronounce the name of your boat and what does it mean?
Hi Christine, its pronounced Moosoo Miya and it mean Our House in Latvian
You know why you got stuck on that weir Mark? it's because 'no good deed goes unpunished'. That's a 'thing' that is. You take note, every time you do something nice for someone. you will get a shot of bad luck right after - or maybe that's just me:]
I think you're spot on there 👍
The what canal . OK I used to live near Llangollen a small town called Corwen. so I should be able to pronounce Llangollen
👍
