    Yo as a Russian in the US it's hella rare to see people taking interest in Russian food here. The guys really showed a solid range of dishes from the cuisine in this episode, and it makes me very happy to see people showing love to our pretty underrated cuisine. Much respect.

      Not only France. For example we have own view on macarones/pasta.(macarones po-flotsky with meat) the concept of dish is close to italian food,but its not italy. Same with dumplings and pelmeni - its not purely from Asia,it was adopted by Russian way. Also Rusisa have some "unique dishes" like "herris under the coat" or "Holodec".
      Also one of the main traditional dishes - pickled fruits and vegetables. Since a lot of region in Russia are cold - Russian start to pickled everything (tomatos,cucumbers, mushrooms, watermelon etc). Every familiy have own recipe. Someone doing sweet pickled cucumbers ,anoter add red pepper and its hot.

    It probably depends on what region of Russia. Food from Moscow will be probably be more European, whereas Vladivostok food might be more east Asian.

    • @Mkungaa
      @Mkungaa 4 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      People from Vladivostok eat the same basic dishes as people from Moscow. The basis for all slavic(a.k.a. russkiy) regions of Russia the same, but Russo-Korean cuisine and Chinese cuisine really popular in Vladivostok, unlike Moscow. But there are whole regions of Russia populated by people with different ethnicity (a.k.a. national republics), they have different cuisine, but they also enjoy Russian (Ukrainian, Uzbeki and etc.) cuisines.

      Ukrainians are not Russians, Ukraine descends from Kyivan Rus, its language is the closest to Old East Slavic and melodic, its first state was the Hetmanate and re-declared independence form the Russian Empire in 1918. Russia comes from the Principality of Vladimir-Suzdal, Muscovy and the Tsardom of Russia, its language is a mixture of Mongolian, Tatar and Church Slavonic, they have different folk traditions no matter how much Russian ensembles use Ukrainian motifs and they have different people that they celebrate. They are different!!!

    • @cianakril
      @cianakril 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@georgeblahvin5833 lol, as if you are educated. Russian is the closest to the Old East Slavic, especially Northern dialects, while Ukrainian is a mixture of Russian and Polish minus Church Slavonic with more Turkish and Crimean Tatar influence a top of the Volga Tatar influence on both of the languages. There is zero words of Mongolian in eith of the language, Mongols never settled in the Eastern Europe and had little to none interaction with the Slavs, all the interaction happened via Tatar. middleman.

The unique style comes from simplifying the way of cooking and using salt and paper instead soy sauce/fish sauce. Пирожки, вареники, пельмени have similarity with bao and dumplings. As Russian I must note that Russian dumplings must come with soup. With soup and sour cream it’s so much better 😍

      not necessary. In soup they soak ond become soggy in minutes. So if you boil 2-3 kilo for the whole family of 10 people - it`s better to serve them without broth

      As russian descent from transnistria/moldova (or just let us say former ussr as it is easier for most others) i have to say borscht cooked like a stew with cold potatoes and a good portion of smetana on top is best for some pelmeni. The temperature differences as well as the texture differences highlight every single component even more.
      I encourage you to try this heirloom recipe of my family

      pelmeni or vareniki? They can be eaten by themselves...usually like you said with sour cream...and to be fair...Russian people eat soup all the time..so to them everything goes well with soup lol

    Guys , you should be make a video about Russo Korean food ! I am interested about the flavor and the look so much ! :D

      That would be difficult, almost like finding a unicorn, as Russu-Korean food isn't well known in Russia either - something like 2-3 dishes known for the whole country while the rest is hidden within rare Korean communities. Moreover, there is 2 different Korean cultures in Russia: Central Asian and Sakhalin - they have different origin and history, and those developed different cuisines.

    omg yes I've noticed that a lot of russian food has asian influence. I went to this ukranian restaurant in Brighton Beach and there was definitely korean influence! It was similar in flavors to korean foods I have eaten!

      That's interesting! I believe it's the result of geographical proximity and I know smaller countries that were once part of U.S.S.R. that surround Russia have a culture that are a mix of Asian and European influences.
