Your reviews are amazing! I learn something new everytime! I was in NY last week and hit up almost every restaurant on your last video, you were on point. When we were waiting at Spicy Village two other groups of poeple were there because of your video, one guy was actually playing your video as we were waiting. Thank you so much for putting all the work into these videos :). I can't wait to come back to NY to try these restaurants too.

Hey guys, Re: Hakka food has been in Chinatown for over 60 years. The Hakbox menu started around early 60's if not late 50's with the endearing Yuk Lon on Catherine St. Then family expanded and went around the corner to open Nam Fong, Southern Wind with expanded menu of rice and noodle dishes. The sons of original owners were fabulous cooks !! Is sad that their kids didn't carry on tradition, but... have their own careers. Hakbox does terrific job on, carrying on. Though many shops has tried to imitate, Hakbox has definitely done a great job, especially when you see elderly women standing on line. Chung fun is delicious as original and stuffed tofu as the originally made with salted fish for taste is delicious. Yeah I go around the corner also to Fong On for the Sweet rice cake, Bok Tong Go 😋. Oh Kings is a block away for Clay Pot rice on E Broadway with many choices and if you do take out take home the clay pot for two bucks 🎉.

The original flagship location of Yayas is on Chrystie Street. The location on Grand Street is their second location. There's a rice noodle shop called Yi Ji Shi Mo on Elizabeth Street in Chinatown that is really cheap and delicious. Also few stores down across the street, there's an Chinese food market with hot food, bakery and butchershop that has the staple for food for Asian ppl in Chinatown for decades.Mei Wah Fast Food charges you extra for the egg btw. Also, around the corner on Bayard from May Wah, there's two dessert places serving mochi donuts and matcha soft serve

    • @GDIGhostStalker
      @GDIGhostStalker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That Chinese food market with doors on both Elizabeth and Mott (goes by Deluxe Food Market in English, and I don’t know how to write their Chinese name, something 昌 like a lot of the Chinese meat markets in NY’s various Chinatowns in Manhattan and Flushing and 8th Ave in Sunset Park Brooklyn) is real good for meats too. It’s less packed than it used to be because of Covid (at least when I took a look earlier this week) but their siu lap and 牛腩 is bomb and their dim sum and sushi ain’t bad either.
I’ve been meaning to go to Yi Ji Shi Mo for noodles, but they’re always closed by the time I swing by after work.
The place on Bayard with matcha soft serve is Taiyaki, they’re known for their taiyaki fish pastry cones with red bean or custard, and also their unicorn soft serve that made them Insta famous. I was there yesterday after work celebrating a week in my new job for matcha soft serve in a red bean taiyaki cone because Chinatown Ice Cream Factory didn’t have my favorite flavor (Dan tat) all week. They had a pop up in Flushing I went to all the time last year, I dunno if they’re still there, but I doubt it because it was in a food court and I’m pretty sure they closed down due to the lockdown. I think they’re also in hipster Williamsburg too.

Agreed, but since it’s an FJ spot they should just call it soy sauce egg instead of randomly calling it tamago. It’s like false marketing. Just a boiled egg marinated in soy sauce.

Here are some of my recommendations for your consideration:
    1. King’s kitchen - 92 East Broadway; probably have the best bbq port and roast chicken in this Chinatown imo
    2. Sun Hing Lung- 58 Henry Street; rice noodle, it’s a hole in the wall
    3. Ming’s Café - 28 Canal Street; a HK style café that locals
    frequent
    4. Big Wong - 67 Mott St; my go-to for Cantonese food, one of the older restaurants that is still around
    5. 88 Lan Zhou Handmade Noodle - 40 Bowery Street; used to be on East Broadway and you have done a video at their old location
    6. Kam Hing - 118 Baxter st; a bakery famous for their sponge cake.
    7. Rice noodle cart on E Broadway and Rutgers(in ront of Wu’s Wonton King); by a lady, have irregular hours
    8. Shang Hai 21 - 21 Mott Street; probably the best Shanghainese restaurant in this Chinatown imo
None of these spots are hippie…but thank you for doing these and the effort to help keep Chinatown Alive!

My favorite memory of Mei Lai Wah was this famous rather heavy set waitress approaching the table and while eyeballing the kitchen she'd snap "Wadda Ya Want !!!". She was the original soup nas ee. Adorable, she moved on to hagen daz later on. She was the mom of a popular insurance dealer on E Broadway.
