@@MegaBallen1 Nationalistic movements were frowned upon by the government (and still are but not as much) and were heavily discouraged from continuing their existence around 2010, give or take a few years. This was done mostly by movies, media campaigns and filmmaking laws. This was done for the most part because there's a hell of a ton of ethnicities and nationalities living inside the borders and to counter regional tensions between some of the more hostile cases. Those individuals that were discouraged from sharing their ideology either changed themselves and formed a different opinion on their fellow countrymen, layed low or avoided prosecution by moving to places where they would be either allowed or just not prosecuted for their actions and ideals. “Pushkin Cafe”: if you are unfamiliar with Alexandre Pushkin, he is worth your while; I’ve only read his excellent poetry in English translation but I hear it’s even more fabulous in the original Russian. He lived a fascinating life, wrote both poetry and fiction, and his great-grandfather, an African slave freed by Peter the Great, rose to the rank of General. Pushkin stupidly threw his life away in a duel, which was so common then.

These russian dishes reminds me somehow of Swedish food from the 1930s/40s/50s, especially the types served at holidays. I say that as a compliment more than anything else, as I love long living traditions. (Younger swedes has largely forgotten these kinds of foods and replaced it with tacos, kebab, pizza, falafel, sushi, halomi, nudlar, ramen, etc.)
And it is not surprising, because both our countries are Nordic ones. Even folk name Russian came from the name of one of the ancient Sweden tribes, Russ.
Similar climate, similar food. I've been to Finland, Russia and Sweden and the traditional food struck me as the most similar among them. Did you know that both Finland and St Petersburg used to be a part of Sweden? Also you right about foreign food, it wasn't easy to find a place with Swedish cuisine in Stockholm.
@@andro7862 Well, not agree about Saint-Petersburg) You are right in that extend that it used to be a Swedish stronghold, but the name was different. But yes, you are right, Russians took this territory over after Nordic War.

If this virus ever passes, I am going to Moscow and in particular that wonderful Library/restaurant. It looks wonderful.
Hahahahah., Cherry vareniki should be eaten as desert!!!! , not after the salmon caviar . Lol and should not be followed the buck weed porridge 🥣
Unfortunately, there are bad food. Yes, you can find something tasty, but it's difficult
Definitely go. We went to Moscow from Tula we visited. Great place.
Same. I'm super impressed with how cheap it was. That was like 5 courses for 3 for 170 USD, which is amazing for that kind of fine dining.
You will find it is one of the best restaurants you will ever eat at. Try a little bit of everything.
OMG that lunch was only $170??! It looked absolutely incredible!
This video was incredible. Gorgeous architecture buildings in side and out and the food all looked so delicious and was served well. I hope to take a trip to Russia someday to sample the food and see the picturesque scenery. Thank you Mark this was a treat to see.
Большое спасибо за это видео, Марк! так здорово видеть красивые исторические места!

Russia is the country of most of my favourite composers - one day I hope to go on a trip like this!
What are you're favorites? Mine are Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Igor Stravinsky, Modest Mussorgsky
Love Mark's wifes happiness in seeing candy so cute. Everyone needs a little sweetness in life. Happy to see she's more on the video's recently.

Is this still a thing 😂 I remember even marks early videos people would always say happy to see she’s in more of the videos where is marks wife why is she not in the video enough haha somethings don’t change then
“Pushkin Cafe”: if you are unfamiliar with Alexandre Pushkin, he is worth your while; I’ve only read his excellent poetry in English translation but I hear it’s even more fabulous in the original Russian. He lived a fascinating life, wrote both poetry and fiction, and his great-grandfather, an African slave freed by Peter the Great, rose to the rank of General. Pushkin stupidly threw his life away in a duel, which was so common then.
These guys were often too hot in those days)

Soviet canteen food reminded me of my lunches in office when I worked in Russia. I miss the Kompote and mashed potatoes. Used to have them everyday for 1.5 years.
And it was a wonderful time ?) Mashed potatoes with a cutlet mmm)))
Dont have the Mashed potatoes in your country?
@@landyshlana8283 yes.....but not forced to have it everyday........lol

What an eye-opener this video is! We LOVED it. So much so that we made borscht and beef stroganoff at home tonight. We appreciate all of your videos.
Love how they're in a fancy restaurant with aristocratic-looking people around them. While all of them are in casual attire looking so wholesome and gushing about the delicious food. Love it 😆
lol hahahaha
It’s absolutely embarrassing!
Venues have a dresscode for a reason!
It’s there to guarantee an experience for anyone who visits it, that comes with a certain look and feel.
Every person attending those places should definitely dress accordingly or should be asked to leave and come back with an Outfit that’s fitting the locations purpose.
Yeah all the while they are sending missiles into Ukraine killing civilians and destroying their infrastructure 🤷♂️
Mark’s the only person to wish me an amazing day regularly, love that guy
Have a great day Ricky.
Youve got the corona virus name. Hahaha just kidding. Chill. Have an amazing day!
Such a beautiful city. Just amazing. Dmitry is such a gracious host. Amazing history and omg the food. Great video
That Russian Library in Moscow has to be one of the coolest places I've ever seen. Everything looked stunning.
Oh it's divine! Take care.

The public transportation looked so ornate. It was really beautiful to see. The restaurants looked so fancy and the food to kill for. Thank you for the tour.
I was born in Russia, as much as I appreciate Michelin quality food, Russian food is always my favorite.
It is not even comparable with Michelin restaurants.
Russian FOOD it is much better. MUCH !!!
I'm impressed. All of the dishes looked delectable. Russia on my bucketlist.
Awesome!! Hardly anyone does food videos in Russia, I’m so curious about their food
Must admit,,, nothing from Russia looked as appealing as his other adventures. This could be a universal fact
Thank you for your idea. I will shot video about Russian food. Now I have the video from Moscow))))
I only know that I can make mashed potatoes with no potatoes by friendly gopnik neighbor Boris
Our food isn’t as interesting as America and other places.

Very well managed. Mouth watering dishes. Oh I love it ! The cleanliness, arrangements and the service is meticulous. The preservation of the culture seem to be really encouraging.
You can litterally hear the excitement in this guy’s voice I love it!
I know right! So enthusiastic, I can’t believe some people were complaining about his reactions.
First everyone complains that Mark "Overreacts" with his facial expressions. Now everyone is complaining that he isn't racting enough with his expressions. There is no pleasing you people 🙄
Well maybe there is a reason behind those expressions! If is sucks no expression maybe ? .

Nice hint!
Actually there are some Speculation around Russian (Ukrainian) onion shaped towers,
One of them Is what Mark mentioned, the other Is that these formation came from Byzantine architecture, you can find this influence at "Basilica Cattedrale Patriarcale di San Marco ) in Venice.
As you know Venetians and Slavic orthodox church were under impression of Byzantine civilization.

Don’t worry I’m sure a day will come when they invade your country and then you’ll get to see a LOT of their culture. I mean, until they send missiles to kill you. 🤷♂️😂
@@smyers820gm Russia and China are the most popular nations and countries in Afrika. Afrikans warm up to these nations easily. And we wouldn't have a problem if The West packs up and go in one day.
Coming to your bad-mouthing Russians,, even if you provoked my country the way you have provoked the Siberian Tiger, I would not be as sweet, patient and nice as Russia has been. If my country had a nuke, I would gatecrash and unleash the weapon.
@@geee7672 yeah you know why African nations love them? Because they are going around tossing money left and right buying up your land and building bases and when you’re country can’t pay back the massive loans, and you can’t because your country is a poor 💩hole run by poor leaders or should I saw just another warlord guess what? 🤷♂️. China will get to keep the base. It’s the same tactic they’ve been using around the world for countries in financial crisis but you’re too stew peed to see and understand it 😂. As far as you “using a nuke” I’m amazed that you can even spell it. 😂. Much less have the technical infrastructure and knowledge to even begin to build one 🤦♂️. But I’ll give you credit. One thing African nations are world class leaders in, is causing famine and death of other Africans. So good job. 👏 👏 👏!🤔😕
@@smyers820gm That's not a biggie. We find them peace loving. They do not believe in regime change tactics or getting involved in politics. They are basically real development partners. They are inspiring a lot of development projects. And we are equal partners. There's no boss or the usual sense of racial superiority.
@@geee7672 no “biggie” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Okee dokie…..wait till your government defaults on the loan and then the local workers are replaced by 1000 Chinese workers who now own the facility because your government didn’t understand the full extent of the contract they signed. All they cared about was what they thought was “free” money and didn’t give consideration to the consequences 🫣
I was adopted from Russia when I was 8 so I absolutely LOVE seeing the food that I never got to try lol! All I remember eating is Borscht, liver stew, and dark bread with oil and salt😂

Awesome. Moscow is better now, actually, stunning improves every year. Thx for video.
@@Oyayebuyu It was called Nyenskans. There are still some remains of it near Большеохтинский bridge, right?
@@andro7862 Nyenschantz was located 5 KM east of the original St. Petersburg fortress. Nowadays it is the part of St. Petersburg, of course, but that were completely different settlements back then. I don't even mention, this was the Russian land before Sweden occupied it in 1611 during the Times of Troubles and established Nyenschantz.
Thank you Mark, that was so interesting and the food looked delicious. Dmitry was the perfect guide...
