Yeah. He knew exactly what he was doing. But then, doesn't this speak to Anthony's flaws? Again based on Luke's analysis, Anthony's defensive holes must have looked HUGE to Dubois.
Great take as always Luke. I also believe one of his key element to victory was not allowing AJ to think, AJ is not at his core a "sweet science boxer" its second nature, so a high pace, agressive tactic doesnt allow you to think about technical nuances and you resort back to a more primal fighting style (he used reaction time as an offensive tactic) .
Nice analysis! I love how the detailed technical explanations are livened up with carols of "Bonk!" "Boom!" "Bong!" and the like. Idea for the future... it would be great to bring on someone highlighted in a "technical difficulties" show, and see if the athlete agrees with Luke's analysis.
That last sequence was just unbelievable. AJ throws a long, looping right hand with his left at his waist... Dubois tags him with a short right but doesn't really connect. So what does AJ do? Oh yeah, *exactly the same thing again*. Dubois doesn't miss twice. You can watch amateur fights where they don't make mistakes like that.
Great content Luke - when I first saw the KO replay live I immediately thought of some of your previous analysis where you talked about punching on the half beat - I though Dubois right cross was just that on the half beat of that exchange rhythm
You are plumb on there brother!, It is all about the footwork, Daniel exploited AJ's weakness in this department for sure to make it look an easy nights work. Props to Dubois trainer Charles, outstanding!. Thanks for sharing man, subbed. 👍
Gotta give a lot of props to Dubois team. He's is a freak athlete but not the most technically gifted boxer. He has a lot of room to improve but the team already instilled a lot of discipline and technique that allowed him to get here. I just hope he keeps focused on improving the flaws in his game cause he has a golden chance to put his mark in heavyweight boxing in the next few years.
As a boxing coach and boxing fan, this is a pretty damn good analysis. Been a while since I've seen Luke's stuff, but I do appreciate the minute details to footwork, distance, and angles. Well done. That said, when did Luke open the law offices of Luke & Thomas?
Made quite abit of money by backing Daniel. He helped me against Hrgovic too. Thought he was a brawler but appreciate how good his footwork was in this now. Thank you!

Ib just watched this break down and as much as duboids stepped up so much did aj step down. I just imagine 9if tua was on dubois place, with all that left hooking, man they would still be looking for AJs head
Man Luke, your breakdowns are always surgical and spot on. You are the best on TH-cam. I absolutely can not wait for your pre-analyses of the Beterbiev Bivol fight. Any hints?
Shane mcguigan gave a breakdown before fight and highlighted Daniels jab as the best of all the heavyweights and commented on how good his footwork is and also said he had worldclass power.
Luke you had too much fun last night during the live. Watching Dubois I see why Usyk beat him the first time. Dubois doesn’t react well with angles. Rematch with Joshua or Usyk will be fascinating.
Exactly. AJ has awful punch recovery. That first knockdown scrambled his brains for the rest of the fight. He never looked stable after that and even glancing punches shook him to the core. Total glass jaw.
Great content. Didn’t notice the footwork in real time but, wondered why AJ kept getting caught. I thought DDD channeling M Tyson with the black outfit and walk in poncho. Fab entertainment 🥊
I think AJ was just very stressed coming up to this fight and therefore his mistakes. It was the old wolf scared of the young wolf thing, which in my opinion says about AJ's heart to fighting. He should not have done that but he let his instincts kick in and you should never have such low faith in yourself if you are a fighter, no matter the age.
He may have decent ring IQ but I suspect a lot of this is down to Dubois's trainer analyzing AJ's faults and training Dubois to take advantage of them 1,000 times in practice so it is second nature. Dubois came better prepared. AJ came for a Francis repeat, and forgot his opponent is actually a real boxer. I would like to see a rematch, now that AJ's has been taught a valuable lesson for the second time. As with Usyk, if AJ gets another crack and comes up short, then the heirarchy has been clearly established. From hereonin, no-one is going to be underestimating Dubois. He played his chip, now everyone has been put on notice.
AJ's warrior spirit is long gone. Most boxing experts are of the opinion that he lost his mojo in the Ruiz fight which I disagree to some extent. The Klitschko fight and the successive defeat to Usyk derailed his pursuit to the undisputed throne. Take a look at his last three fights before DDD, he made similar mistakes. You can't repeat same to DDD and he paid the price.
9:29 the stance and hand positioning and reaction of AJ in this frame are just mental! What the hell was he thinking? I know it is not easy… I certainly would NOT enter the ring against any of them, not even to play chess… but man!!! Does he look off in this frame! I mean it cannot be his camp or Ben Davison advice can it? So many questions just by looking at this frame!!!
10:25 …. “And resets position” I do understand the shoulder defense from Dubois… but AJ is again, very odd… he is unable to throw combos? Where is the lead hand he should be able to shift weight and gain momento here… his balance was off… why?I mean, I know why in terms of what is visible, but why so stiff?
Ben Davidson told him between rounds to throw the uppercut. Listen to it back and you’ll hear it too (God damn those ex roofers - which is what he is!)
@@mr.soystein7849He didn't, you're right. That dude just want listening properly to mics in the corner. Davison told him to double up on the jab before bringing it up, AJ just went out and got giddy and didn't set anything up as he was told to do.
This was a SUPURB breakdown and analysis! Dubois won in spectacular fashion. I am a HUGE AJ SUPPORTER, but in seeing this breakdown, I was given so much clarity about all of the mistakes made that happened so fast while watching in real time. Joshua's lack of defense and flawed footwork costed him greatly. He served himself up on a plate to Dubois. That being said, because the mistakes were so basic, I think Josh can make the adjustments needed should they ever rematch. Excellent work from team Dubois.
Good analysis. I think the main takeaway from this is that Dubois had a much superior awareness of timing and space, and his jump steps totally fooled Joshua and left him in bad positions.
Dubois was ready to get caught.. he did not bought any of AJ faints and little tweaks… Dubois did not respect AJ like most of AJ opponents do… when AJ tried something different, more vigorously, more aggressive he actually caught Dubois, just to get KOed after but AJ was way to shaken by that point. Why did AJ did not impose himself from the beginning? He just did not want to get caught, it seems he was not ready to rumble… figuratively speakinng of course. He shows up and he is a great champ!
Really good breakdown. We must assume AJ had a plan so i'm guessing the plan was to draw Daniel in with a low guard and counter, but the countering never really happened probably because Daniel had a plan of his own which was a much better one. Daniel made AJ look like an amateur, this is a bad defeat for AJ in some ways worse than the Ruiz one, partly because he made the same kind of mistakes back then too.
Luke your breakdowns are phenomenal!! I am a big boxing fan and I lack the technical knowledge when it comes to the sweet science. Been hooked the day you broke down Terrace Crawfords domination over Errol spence jr. Where can i find the link for it?
Good analysis. Save for the obvious mistakes outlined, what baffles me is that Joshua has tried to use the same style and tactics with every gmfight he has had since teaming up with Davison. But, you can't fight the same fight with every fighter for obvious reasons, and this was, in particular, a bad idea against a fast, heavy punching pressure fighter like Dubois
Aj with those lead uppercuts...Who let him to watch THAT much of anime?) Terrible balance, terrible decisions, pure defense, wide shots, overextended after shots...Idk man, he showed so much flaws, did he even train? You have one of the best breakdowns on the TH-cam
