In the 1860's pitchers had to not only throw underhand, but also had to pitch slow and the batter got to tell them where to throw it. Only swing and misses were a strike and any fair ball caught before the ball bounced twice was an out.

I remember the Braves had a pitcher named Larry Bradford who threw puff balls until Gaylord Perry joined the team. It wasn't long before Perry was throwing puff balls too, and the league quickly put an end to that.

I'm not for sure what exactly the definition of a quick pitch is but sometimes when there is no one on base I will go from the stretch and you don't have to come set when you do that.

Spit balls aren’t really illegal. I did them throughout my baseball career. You can’t spit on the ball, but you can lick your fingers which is what I did. Not sure what the rule is now, but in softball you can still lick your fingers, but you have to (touch) your pants before pitching. Which you don’t have to touch with your fingers. Now why would anyone want to lick their fingers? The amount of grip you get on the ball in doing so is like glue. Allows you to add an enormous amount of spin to the ball.
I got a book on pitching from the library as a boy in the mid 80s at an elementary school library that showed how to do all the pitches and there was a chapter on spit balls or spit pitches.
Would love for like one spring training game all the classic cheats can be implemented. Spit balls, nail files, corked bats, pine tar everywhere, puff balls... anything goes for one exhibition.
I never got caught doing it but once my high school competitive baseball days were over I played softball and I would spit on the ball before every single pitch. I felt like underhand pitching didn't have enough velocity exiting your hand and if I could get spit on it, then it would glide right off my fingertips straight down the pipe. In softball, you're not really trying to strike anyone out bc its fn softball but if you can pitch it with some steam right down the pipe but on the lower part of the zone, batters would ground out to the shortstop/3rd baseman. I did it for years till I stopped playing and like I said, somehow I never got caught, probably bc no1 would even fathom a pitcher in softball doing it.

depends on the teams playing, some games we'd lose or win in about an hour and 20 mins or so if things were moving fast and steady, my school was pretty shitty haha so some other schools would straight smoke us. But realistically about 2 hours gives or take@@mikeygallos5000

The quick pitch doesn't bother me the puffball definitely. I don't think the quick pitch is an issue unless the batter is not set. If you're able to change your mechanics and routine and pitching motion and still be as effective everybody else can go fudge because that should not be illegal

Quick pitching is not illegal out of the wind. Only time pitchers get in trouble with it is pitching out of the stretch because a lot of times they don’t come to a complete stop and that’s a balk
