  • As I continue my search for new Wild/Native Trout Waters, I came across this little Gem known as the West Branch of Codorus Creek in York County Pennsylvania. Although not very wide or deep, nor having a particularly long section of Class A Waters (2mi.), this tailwater section below Lake Marburg and Codorus State Park had quite a nice population of Wild Brownies which I caught over the course of an hour or so.

I fish this stream frequently. It is first class. This being your first time here, there are a few things to know for your next time here. From where you showed your first shot, there is actually at least 3/4 mile of open water above, probably more, then it becomes private. There used to be several miles more open water above and below what is now open, but rudeness by a few anglers got those areas closed. There are a large number of fish in the stream, including more than a few 20" plus fish. This stream stays freezing cold all year because it is below a bottom release dam. Cold, as in, I have worn long johns under my waders in August. Some sections are silty (enough that you have to be careful not to get stuck). It has a few good hatches as well. Thanks for posting this.

@@wolfgangkirby6820 hanover junction is an amazing place to fish, but if you go a little farther down the road or rail trail, you’ll find an old pizza shop and behind that is a bridge where i caught a 17 inch brownie under it and some small mouths today

You mentioned how cold the water is. Reminded me of the time that I was fishing that section and tripped over a log and swamped my waders on New Year's Day back in the early 2000's. That was cold! LOL! I haven't fished that section in probably 10 years, but it is lovely!

In my neck of the woods almost. Good water in the York area, and Lancaster. Don't always have to go to Northern PA to get good fish. Plenty of fish and some with some with quite good size in there. Nice job and glad you enjoyed that section. I did my last video on that stream in that exact spot, very cool!

Southern PA (and Northern MD) definitely have some sleeper Wild Trout spots which I am slowly learning to appreciate, this being one of them. Thanks dude!

I live in Tampa now and there is literally 20 spots 5 minutes from my home that Icould choose to fish there are even drainage ditches on the side of the road that hold fish but watching this video makes so homesick and nostalgic for the good old days fishing at muddy run or lake Redman or Pinchot park or even Kiwanis lake with a can of corn that I would sneak from my moms pantry.

Awesome video man!! Haven't been to the local tailwater in awhile! This video makes me really want to get back there hahaha! Loved the video and great work on that stream. That creek can be tough to fish at times, but when their on the bite it's a ton of fun!

I ready enjoy watching your videos but I have a question. Because GoPro doesn’t have a “pause recording”, do you have to stop recording then start on new clip and put them all together by editing?

Now you're fishing on some of my home water. York County's got a couple decent spots hidden away. You need to get yourself a little 6'6" #4 weight fiberglass fly rod for Codo

I was there May 9th, it was snowing that day I was also the only one out. Ended up with 6 nice trout that day, lost at least 4 others.

Is it worth trying for small mouth ?

No smallies in it. Wild trout and an occasional stocked rainbow that washes down from the upper part of the stream. The Conewago has some nice smallies. From above New Oxford and thru East Berlin the whole way to the Susquehanna River.

B Gutty do a map search for Porters Sideling and you will find the stream easily.
