Another unbelievable video Jon. They don't get much bigger than that here in PA. Its super rare, but always a treat to run into one of that caliber. Keep up the amazing work as usual!
i grew up in Union County, PA, there was a cold, mountain stream loaded with native brookies. Would spend basically every day of the summer on this particular stream pulling out 6-8" brookies. There was one hole, about 400 yards from where I entered, a big tree root system near the head of a pool about 10' from the bottom of a rapid. Maybe was about 6' deep. Threw in a Mepps Black Magic 00 into the rapid and let it drift into the pool. Saw a flash, and my little ultra light setup just bent. Ended up being a 17.5" male brookie. a fantastic fish, showed him to my dad (back in those days, you mounted fish like that), and said that fish was probably 15 years old, and likely was the biggest fish in that stream. Only threats to these fish are the black bears, and the occassional fisherman. That summer, I saw 2 fisherman the entire summer on that stream. Heading back there next week with my 7'6" 3 wt fly rod.
Great video! The cinematography was awesome. Definitely the kind of stream you search for a while to find and when you find it you remember it forever.
Yeah I fished this stream for the first time 3 yrs ago and its on my rotation now and I try to fish it 2-3 times per season, its accessible and so beautiful with quality and quantity of fish. Hard to beat!
Nice day! I love that serendipitous feeling when you have an expectedly productive day. There's a small blue ridge stream that has become one of my favorites this year. It suffers early in the season from low water but after a rain the brookies are very eager, similar to your experience. And the big one was a beast, congrats!
I enjoy your videos. Much respect for your fishing expertise and camera work. I'm located not far from the Esopus Creek. This unpredictable weather has hindered fishing a bit, Hope to get out soon.
The release at 6:20 looks like the hand of god reached down to give this fish a second chance hahaha 😂😂😂 It looks intentional unless you see that the light from through the trees just happens to be where he released the fish. Pretty funny.
Great Video!! I love fishin little streams like that for Brookies. The large one was awesome, nicely Done!! I’m waiting to hear back from you on streams by my sisters place in Rhinebeck NY. Also, my buddy has a cabin in Sullivan county Pennsylvania With tons of little streams like you just fished. No one fishes and it is a true gift!! Anyway, keep it up, your videos and fishing is something I look forward to!! KB 🐸🔱⚓️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks so much! I love the small streams so much they are treasures for sure. Unfortunately I don’t know the area around rhinebeck at all. I’m sure there are some decent streams though. Good luck!
@@deaddriftoutdoors2940 Thanks Jon I figured I’d try. I live in Delaware and there’s only one good trout stream about 45 mins for me. Which I generally fish the PA side of the WCC. So it’s hard for me to scout out streams in Pa and NY. I should be retired this time next year and will be traveling and fishing small streams in Pa and NY!🥳. We also head up to raystown lake in a week for family get together we do every 2 years. It’s great and I’ll fish the trough State creek. I’ve caught some decent trout there but I’m gonna look for other small streams It’s difficult cause I don’t know the area that we’ll even thought this is our 10th or so time up there🤪 Thanks for the response back and maybe one day I’ll bump into you on a stream. Tight lines to ya Jon Keep sending videos They are awesome!! 🐸🔱⚓️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Any advice on how to find blue line streams like this? Are you using Google maps or an Atlas? What do you look for on an Atlas when looking for these streams? Im in central PA but would love to give this a try!

I had seen a couple bigger ones in this creek previously but finally got a crack at one! Thanks for the kind words!

Wow that was a monster brook trout for a Pa mountain stream. Awesome!
Yes that was a memorable brook trout for sure, my PB in PA! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Love the Pa fishing! Great work
Thanks so much, I really enjoy going down to PA and have sooo much more to explore.
Incredibly produced video!

Not sure how you are going to top that video.
Thanks for taking us along.
I can keep trying of course lol! You are welcome!
Love the location. Thank you!
Me too and you're welcome!
Beautiful example of wild natives. I had to hike 4 miles into Elk county to grab a brookie just like that one on a rooster tail.
Its more rewarding when you have to work a bit!
Awesome experience, thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate your interest and support!
Wow, cracking fish and very skillful casting, the scenery-amazing!🎣
Thank you sir I appreciate the nice words.

Yeah it’s amazing how these little streams come alive after a burst of rain
Nice Jon! Congrats on that big brookie!!!!
Thanks so much I was happy to have the shot to catch him!

Yes it’s been a bit unpredictable this season for sure.
Thanks for the kind words!
Great video it reminds me of so. Co pa. Deep in the mountains a 10 + inch fish is a beautiful trophy
I agree thanks for commenting!
Great video and monster on that little stream. Under the branch 😊
I know I probably said it 10 times. I still can’t believe I landed that fish.
Another Great Video the Under Water Releases are really cool
Glad you like them! Thanks for the comment!
Great job
Thanks!

🤣🤣 I did choose a spot with some sunlight maybe it was divine intervention lol
The under water shots are sick
Thanks. I’m not in love with the quality sometimes but some of these came out ok. Thanks for the comment!
WOW!
Thanks!
Outstanding work
Thank you very much!

How did you get that fly in there?! 😦👏🏻👏🏻 Fabulous fish….
Love the bumper sticker!
I broke off on my first attempt and about my 6th lol. Then I just got lucky I guess
Glad you noticed the sticker 👏🏻👏🏻
Love the photography. Beautiful. I'd like more info on your flies that you generally use. I saw the Wulff. Did you say red thread? Thank you..Reed
I generally use attractors like Wulffs and Stimulators. For a dropper typically tungsten bead pheasant tails and hares ears. Pretty Vanilla.
How big was that fella 13 or 14 inches? Nice sized fish for a small stream
I would say a good 12-13" from memory, yeah he was a biggun for sure!
Any advice on how to find blue line streams like this? Are you using Google maps or an Atlas? What do you look for on an Atlas when looking for these streams? Im in central PA but would love to give this a try!
PA Fish and Game has detailed maps and stream designations but then you got to get out and explore!
you a brookie bandit. throw that 6 and half pretty nicely
I like that. Brookie bandit lol. I try
Oh yum
Haha
What size hooks were you using on the flies?
Varies for sure but generally size 12-16
You should come to Quebec because the brookies can be big an plentiful
Maybe someday!
I have a 7'-6" 3# by sage....................it was made from a blank, not sure if sage makes these fully assembled. Its a very nice rod.
Sounds waaay nicer than mine lol. At least I don’t worry about breaking mine ol
