  • It’s safe to say that this was one of the most challenging privies I’ve ever done- and my 3rd largest ever overall! The dig took place during the summer of 2021 in York, Pa. with artifacts ranging in age from 1960 to 1885 or so.
    Stay tuned for more artifact adventures coming soon, and please subscribe to follow along! #privydigging #artifacts #treasure #excavation #digging #yellowlab #college

    Wow! Great York history. Have old beer bottles. Pappy made homemade beer, bottle caper and all. Plitt, Coca-Cola bottling plant, york peppermint patty, to name a few.

    Looks like you found a couple of light bulbs too. Always fun to find those intact considering how fragile they are.

    Love the bottles, great inkwell and medicine bottles. Great job on the dig.
    I didn’t realize the privy was inside the carriage house, but it makes sense.
    Nice job excavation of the dog 👋👍

      Thank you! It’s the first privy pit I’ve ever dug that was originally designed and placed inside of a standing structure. Something you don’t see often.👍⛏

    Awesome historical area. Absolutely love history. Looking at the structure takes me back to when it was new and thriving. What a awesome view into yesteryear.

      Thank you! It was a unique site to dig. First time I’ve ever dug a privy under a structure vs out behind it.😂😁

    I like to put empty Gatorade bottles at the bottom then layer the shards as I'm refilling! 🤣 P.S. As a consolation,you can always place a note inside of said Gatorade bottle listing all the cool bottles you found! 👍

    New sub here. Really enjoy watching digs in local privys. My great grandparents came from the York area so this was interesting. Wondering if you pulled anything from Hanover Pa out of that privy? Thanks so much for the great adventure, God bless brother!!

    What is the time frame where you should be wearing special respiratory gear when digging in an old human waste privy site?

    • @theglassdigtective
      @theglassdigtective  ปีที่แล้ว

      On average 60-70 years till the bacteria and diseases die off in a privy. Everything I did is usually 120 years old or more.👍⛏

    Can you still get a disease digging those antique privys?

    • @theglassdigtective
      @theglassdigtective  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No pathogens as long as the privy hasn’t been used in 60 or more years. That’s the only guarantee you have to avoid diseases.
