That’s weird because for me the overall experience with X Battles has been basically the opposite, with Anarchy Series being so unbalanced while X Battles games being mostly more balanced, except for the last 10 or 20 matches but maybe it depends on how many players there are at the time.

The problem with the X rank divisions probably is from the connections of the regions. Tentatek division spans most of the world, covering the Americas, Canada and European regions, while Takoroka division covers a much smaller region of just mostly Asian countries and Australia. If you're picking Tentatek, there's no telling if you’re about to get people with a messy connection from far away.
@@MeMyselfI__ I understand why they didn't considering the number of people in the Asia region is GIGANTIC compared to NA and European combined, but for connection especially it's not a great one
@@fyyyyyynnn447 That's more explainable imo, a lot of people that finished the drizzle catalog or took a break are probably back for chill season and the new content, probably amongst those are people who have poorer connections or something who don’t play as frequently due to that limitation. And your experience differes a lot from my own, as I've played a ton since the start of chill season, but not run into that many DCs (probably 1 in 20 on average), and DCd maybe once total myself due to an “everyone DCd” game. The unfortunate truth is that with the current system, you are going to inevitably run into DC games eventually, and it may not even be because of your own but everyone else's.
But in splatoon 2 it was even worse. I live in California and was regularly put in JP lobbies, and I could absolutely feel that I was at a disadvantage in terms of lag. I think they’re trying to at least limit that now by cutting the globe in half.
I'm not even S+0 yet but I think the current problem is that X battles just started, so many very good players like yourself are matched with other average players. Just like when Splatoon 3 launched and Ranked battles were extremely hard since many competitive players started in the first rank with everyone else. I believe with more time your points for X battles will determine who you're matched with, so the level of the players will be more similar between each other.
I've been having a rough experience with X battles. The amount of players I've seen in X battle (rainmaker especially) just sort of dive bomb into the objective is weird. However the few matches with an even team comp were really fun.
It's literally the cap for X battle, way too low, and people call us mean or say we're "gatekeeping" the highest rank. Well that's how it SHOULD be, the gate for X battle is just wide open for ANYBODY. Bad games do happen but some of these people deadass look like they never touched a ranked game before, they're just not ready for X battle yet, they need more time to cook
Thank god I am not S+, I will not compete to X battles, like Anarchy Matchmaking is dumb like people don’t know how to play Salmon Run, and Anarchy like Clam Blitz, like it’s make me rage, and I had enough with bad games in Splatoon 3(I don’t hate this game), Like I got an INSANE TRIPLE KILL with a Carbon Roller on Clam Blitz. X Battles is worst than Rank Up Battles for S and S+ and Higher, like seriously, Nintendo, fix your game, fix your matchmaking, and fix your online, please. And at least Splatoon 3 is Best Multiplayer Game of the Year. I hope they fix this matchmaking.
I'm also having a terrible time in X rank. Half of my teammates feed and super jump dangerously. I find it hard to win. I had a game today where 2 of my teammates got splatted nearly 40 times combined. X is pure suffering and I am content trying to get back to S+10 until it gets better.
S+ 0 is definitely too low for x rank. Like that just makes it S+ plus rank again lol. It should be 10 like how it was in splatoon 2 or anything besides 0 to show players got some experience at least.
I still get the thing in clam blitz when I spam this way under the other teams basket and my teammates seem to not realize you can jump with super clams. That screams I made it to s+0 being completely unaware on how to play the game.
That would be horrific because you rank down to S+0 at the end of the season. Yes I think you should have to be S+10 but that only works if you demote to S+10 at the end of a season and not S+0. I feel like a good metric for that would be to just base it on a minimum of 2000 XP to determine if you derank to S+10 or S+0
I’m having a terrible time even in Anarchy at S rank. Team mates who constantly stay inside the splat zone and get splatted. Opponents with a whole team of special spammers, torpedo spammers etc. Takes forever to get back to S+.
I've felt the pain of the matchmaking. In my first X rank session (which happened to be zones at the time) I was matched against Arashi in 1 match and the, as I found out later, #1 zones player twice. Ironically, even though I lost 3 of those calculation games, I still got over 2400 power and got in the top 500.
I hate it every single time when I get a 3-0 but still get 10 points it makes me furious when I get 2-3 I lose even more points cause I get bad teammates this is the reason why I hate X rank battle
Speaking right out of my soul! In S2 you’d get bad mates sometimes, and that’s how it works, not everyone is equally as good, but it’s not a rarity that I get 15+ k/a while all of my teammates get a negative ka/d. It’s just frustrating when you know you’re doing well but can’t win due to your mates, not to speak of the point system and how it’s just sometimes straight up unfair. I‘d say so was a pretty average/high average player in S2 (~2400 usually), but in this game it feels so unplayable at times that I‘ve just decided to grind for the S+50 again instead of going for the high XP for now. The games where you do get good teams on both ends definitely feel very intense and good tho imo.
During all of my placements the matchmaking has been so bad; my teammates don’t know what they’re doing. Someone on my team got 1 kill and died 9 times, just very disappointing overall. It feels like people are dragging my rank down with theirs.
Translated by Google: Ever since the X matches were added, it didn't really stand out to me due to the matchmaking issues that will most likely get you matched up with a clumsy team that makes you lose immediately.I recommend that you play the X matches with friends because you will be in good hands and you know what they will do and they will be coordinated compared to pairing up with strangers.
I find that the competent teammates thing is a problem in anarchy as well, sure I’m not perfect and sometimes I make mistakes that cost the Mach or get pitted against a cracked team, but it seems like 50% of my defeats are due to incompetent teammates
Yeah solo queue feels much harder in this game. I usually have a pretty good kd/objective and can carry but my win rate is close to 50/50. For the time being, I'm just doing anarchy open with friends and avoiding X all together.
I've been having the same issue, i see people getting 170+ point wins but i never got anything higher than ~50 - 60, with most of the wins being like +10, 20 or 30 while the point losses are huge, even when going 2-3.
I don’t think the barrier for entry is the problem, so much as the matchmaking. Players of varying or lesser skill getting in wouldn’t really matter if you didn’t end up getting matched with them all the time, or if they consistently fought against themselves alone.
From my personal experience, I was amazing in Splatoon 2 and was holding some high x-powers, but x-battle has been living hell for me, multiple of my powers are below 1700, and I’ve been playing well but keep losing. But I think the issue is the matchmaking and how low the entry rank is to be in X-battle. I do have hope that over a season or two the playing field will level out because people are finding what’s best for them to play. Also I think that some of the weapons and their kits are a bit unbalanced, which may make things feel a bit off.
My X rank experience has been solid so far, sure teammates are rough, but I think it's an improvement from 2. S+0 is definitely where my liking for it goes down, it's so odd that it's only S+0 and no higher.
They probably made it so S+0 can enter because of how the rank resets every season. If you had to reach S+20 or something like that every season, it would be extremely tiring for a lot of players, even thought that would probably make it so it would be very balanced. But not everyone, even the people who do have S+20-like skill, have the time every season to reach S+20 and have a lot of time after for X Battle, 3 months can seem like a lot and for some people it probably is, but not everyone. Not every Pro or Good player has all day to play the game. Of course not that the entry level being S+0 is a good level. It should be higher.
If they raised entry level to S+20, they could minimize the decay in between seasons. Maybe you only go down by 5-10 levels of S+, rather than all the way back down to S+0
TLDR few points in wins == similar xpower to your team (or less) laggy X = many didn't grind to S+10 so are now exiting S and entering X, will get better. So, here is the gist about "points" in general. You gain so few points because you are playing with worse teams than you. The same was in S2 with xpower. If you win a team with smaller xpower (or similar to yours) you won't gain power. If you win only 1 game out of 6 but the other team is far far superior, then you might gain much more (in theory). That's how elo systems work (not really, it's much more complicated, but ok). Xpower (and in general elo) is not a grade, it's not something you want to increase indefinitely. It's just a number indicating approximately your level so that the system can match you with similar players. So, in theory (again), EVERYONE should find a power bracket and hover around it by gaining/loosing minor amount of points each time. This of course will never going to happen for many reasons (sometimes you play with weapons you are not good at, sometimes your teammates are sleepy, etc etc). X right now has very few players. I know many didn't grind to S+10 so are now exiting S and entering X. It will get better (lag). When the player pool increases, (in theory AGAIN) you will be matched with similar level X power to you and not lower that don't know the game as well as you. In S2 terms, if you are XP2400, you should not team up with XP2000 nor with 2800. Anarchy is the worst experience ever because of the randomness of teammates/opponents.
I can say that as someone in the Takaroka division (Australian btw), I've didn't have much lag at all apart from 1 or 2 DCs so far. The points system still sucks though. The match making I feel isn't too dog shit, but that's at least for now, maybe in a couple of months I might build-up enough bad apples to make a new judgement. But those are my *current* (as of December 2022) thoughts about X battles. Passable but not excellent probably a 7/10, I'm enjoying it a bit more than I did with anarchy series. I do agree that the criteria should be increased beyond S+0 though.
I hate to sound mean but X RANK SUCKS!! I KEEP GETTING BAD TEAMMATES THAT THROW, GO YP AGAINST PEOPLE WHO SPAM BOMBS AND ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST, AND I RARELY GET GOOD POINTS!! LIKE SERIOUSLY I ONLY GET LIKE 10-20 POINTS AND I LOSE 30-60 EVERY MATCH!! LIKE WTF!!
10 POINTS FOR 3 WINS IN A ROW? I carried my teammates on S+ and I don't want to on X... S+0 is anything for players... With time, anybody can get that rank. Is stupid. Look at your gameplay and the other people... Aghhhh This is why I like playing Salmon Run more this time. I had enough competitive and anxiety.
I don't think to be able to get in X rank should be S+20, because that would be WAY too impossible to do especially with each season de-ranking you. At least it should be S+5, which would be much less hard to get to. I already struggle with C+ rank because of the bad teammates thing, so it isn't just X rank. I really hope Nintendo fixes X rank in the next update, because when I do get to X rank, I really don't want all these communication errors, glitchy lobbies and having teammates who don't even know what they're doing, as well as no teammates at all. I also really don't want a repeat of this one match I did where me and my team were winning in clam blitz and then suddenly I was the only person on my team everyone else disconnected and I had to go head to head with the other team. (But I surprisingly did good I almost wiped the whole other team, but still lost) I was really excited to try and get to X rank but now I'm having second thoughts. . . EDIT: Also the bad teammates thing could just be that I'm bad, but I watched a ton of Splatoon videos before getting the game so I could be good when I start, and most of the videos were anarchy battles. And I do pretty good in Anarchy I just don't play it as much because how frustrating it could be.
S+10 would be reasonable. S+20 might be quite a grind and I know some players just play scrims all the time, so its even more grindy for them. Its probably still better, just takes a little time.
Definitely agree with the barrier to entry being too low; had multiple placements and games after where I was the only one on my team with a positive kd whilst playing pretty poorly myself. Win or lose if your range blaster is out painting your Jr something's up. It seems to be getting better with time for me though as the frequency of good games has increased over the past two days and I've had more instances of good teammates. I dont think I had a game on rainmaker haggle fish where a teammate didn't take it left or up the shallow ramp on the right rather than just jumping from the checkpoint. I'm not struggling with lag though, perhaps there is a bit more in lower level matches? Hard to tell. I'm playing from Europe so maybe it's more about when I'm playing?
The thing I dislike the most about X-rank is that it has the same per-archetype matchmaking as Splatfest Pro. If you use, say, a Pro, the other team is guranteed to have a long-range shooter of their own, for example. It sounds good on paper, but between poorly constructed archetype lists (Jr is in the same boat as Ttek and Splash, for example, and Heavy is unplayable because it's always matched with chargers that maul it, while Naut is not with midline shooters despite it essentially being one) and the fact that this system limits matchmaking from being able to construct even skill matchups it just doesn't work. I would rather take a system where the teams are uneven in terms of weapon comps rather than uneven in terms of skill, it's more fair, more enjoyable and more diverse.
But regardless I agree and if we gotta be fair actually this system makes uneven weapon comps? So why are you saying the opposite? Anyway I’ve had much more balanced (both team comp and skill) games in X Battles than Anarchy Series, and I’ve started X Battles since like 2 weeks or so.
When I made it to X rank, I felt embarrassed that my teammates are caring me to victory, but that less I have alot of practice so I well helpful for once. Btw Chase any thought of Splatoon 3 winning best multiplayer game, to me I'm shocked and happy that the same time!
I think it makes sense overall, cause since you can stick with your team for multiple matches, your much more likely to get carried through ranked and you only need to get out of S rank without playing any games in S+ to unlock X battles
the game tries to, however it prioritizes fast matchmaking over even matchmaking. so if it doesnt find people near your power level within like 30 seconds, it just puts you with random power levels. and this happens very often sadly
A big issue is the priority of matchmaking in x is to favor weapon classes over skill distribution every time. This can lead to teams being completely outranged or outdamaged by other teams just because they need to throw weapons classes in pairs. Always love to write my least favorite x rank battle: goo reef shot under vs brella eliter forge cjr on Mahi Mahi, completely outranged and outdamaged.
For my part I never had any horrible matches with inexperienced player in X rank in fact it was more the opposite. I hate playing in anarchy series because that's where I find the most of them. I hit 2600 in clams and rainmaker without having brain dead teammates. I even got a full lobby of top 500 player lmao
I had the same problem about people being in a high rank but don't know how to play, when the update came my rank decreased at A+ and I literally spent 3 days trying to win the rank battles to regain S rank but I had 2 victories then boom, always being with bad teammates against people at the same level as me, and I dont know why but the servers did not work at a certain point of the day, I was waiting for a match but it always said that they weren't enough players, wtf
I’ve been getting steam rolled in S+ man… I felt Splatoon 2 had significantly more balanced teams. I usually have like 2 people who go super negative. I’m like Michael Phelps with how many gold medals I have …
I just got into x battles a few days ago & i main splatlings (takoroka dev btw). I would say im a decent player, not the best. in anarchy i feel i have been performing significantly better than my X battles have been, my kills would be in double digits and I can lead a match to victory without much trouble but im not blitzing series with 5 wins 0 loss or anything. Im still to play all of the modes but so far ive had some good expriences with clam blitz and zones but rainmaker has be really bad. I do agree to an extent that I havent been performing to my normal ability for whatever reason (is what it is sadly) but some team mates have really got me questioning things tho. I have frontlines who do not push the objective or will actually go behind me (i use heavy btw) so that i am forced to push to the front and not do my job properly. Am i the only one who has had issues like this in rainmaker in particular? Ive seen people ignore players in X and this has lead to knockout which could have been avoided if they pulled their weight. I do agree with the people who say S+10 or S+20, even i thought it was weird when I reached S+0 and realised that i made it. Perhaps it would cut some of this out a bit im not sure. I havent played tower yet but i find zones the best and clams is okay, momentum is challenging to build because people again either wont pick up clams or refuse to push in. I know my own performance has dropped a bit since starting in x for some reason. normally i would get 10+ but ive had less that 4 sometimes and for me i find that concerning cause i dotn feel like im contributing enough lol. I have had instances when i have shot someone 6 times and they live and i am very confused. Im also working on learning nautilus so sometimes i get heavy and that play style mucked up which makes games hard lol. I had really bad experience with rainmaker and my X power is very low in that mode, I am pretty devastated ngl because ive never struggled this much. I dont even know lol I needed to rant somewhere haha, I just dont understand some people when they play tho, I have had so many matches where im innafective because of a hydra/e-litre outranging me and my team does nothing to counter them on my behalf. I sometimes will break formation just to deal with the other backliner so i can focus on doing my job better. Anyways i need to stop ranting hahaha bc i will go on forever and that will not be good haha
Right now trying everything I can to be at top 3000 and unlock the blue green X rank badge even though I not doing great my X powers on all modes are 1800+ 1700+ which I assume not enough to be at top 3000 and it's totally frustrating for me
Pretty sure the X rank scoring is based on the preceived value your team succeeded in. So if you get very few points it means the scoring system thinks from your matches that you should stay close. And while it seems odd with a 3-0 its not that unwarrented as you it takes more than just your wins and losses but also scales how much you effectively contributed. This scoring is generally the same one used in other games (aka the Glicko rating). Basically not only does it check for overall win losses but also individual performances. Thats another reason why a 3-0 won't give you many points too, because its 3 matches in all of your total matches despite them listing it as 3-0.
It keeps track of individual performance? Are you sure? Because I get gold medals constantly and it doesn't seem to be affecting anything, still low point gains after going 3-0
I'm having trouble ranking back up to S+0. Haven't had a chance to play them yet lol. (nope, never made the cut for X rank in 2 either. But with these new lower entry requirements…)
I was in the top 500, got two com errors during two winning battles back to back, and both were counted as losses because of Nintendo’s stupid decision to count dcs as losses, and ultimately, lost lots of points. And I don’t even know how many points I lost because it was just too much
2:10 no, having 20 kills and 2 deaths every game stuck in A+ and losing all my series because of randoms hurts alot i just wanna play X (also i main the same weapon so its not like im an eliter just killing and contributing nothing)
1:11 Going on a guess here but maybe it's bc the game tries to match similar win streaks rather than just ranks in lobbies( in series), whereas your normal doo-doo mindless feeder can play with the best of the best in X rank
Up to you bro but could we see some dualie squelchers gameplay in X battles or anarchy? I wanna see a pro dualie user use these weapons so I can get an idea on how to use them
I play takaroka division in Hong Kong and I feel fine with matchmaking. My first impression was bad though because I got a 2-3 and lost 62 rank pts. somehow I feel that it is easier to win in X battle rather than arnarchy series lol
1:00 the issue is that there is not enough people in X rank. Over time more ppl will join and so in theory you should be matched agaist the same players of your skill. If this issue wasn't present in anarchy then you know that's because in anarchy you can be S+ but still go against A rank people. And a A rank player can be better than a S+ player because maybe he just picked up the game but knows about man advantage and positioning. So i think over time as more players will join we will have a better matchmaking. And we can see it already because top 500 usally get matched against top 500.
i’ve also been having the same problems, and i agree with h when i said that the skill cap is too low for X rank. It should be like S2 where when u reach S+10 u get X, but for S3 it’s not like that. Basically anyone who gets S+ can play C even though they’re not good enough for the rank. So I agree with Chase and we should all be S+10 or above to be able to access X-rank. Because all my teammates feel like I’m playing in A rank and not X and there are some occasions where I do encounter a few good players.
I have had a pretty good time honestly Iam from Europe playing tentatek Div and this might be contributed to the fact that the squelchies are pretty good for SQ (at least I think) and the matchmaking still gives me the stoopit teammate from time to time but it has been better then what I experienced in 2.. now with the points I think I have been pretty lucky, especially because I usually don't suffer huge losses like most of the time I loose the best of 5 I loose around 20 points, and I often gain the same paints back, sometimes a little more or less. And in comparison with other rank modes in other games it overall has been a nice experience for me.
The matchmaking in both series and X rank has seems to be terrible. I seem to get punished with incompetent players after winning a game or two. Like one time I was 2-0 in an S+0 series and my team got fucked up by a brush that literally just walked into our base, threw the clam in the basket and either died or left without killing anyone. 4 times. On the flip side, I seem to get competent teams at 0-2
i haven't played them yet (because i'm still in S rank after i got ranked down for the season end) but why is it a problem s+0 players can play in it? if you're getting matched with people way below your skill level, i don't think they should have to make it harder to join. instead nintendo should just make sure people are matched with those near their skill level.
Lowering the entry level to S+0 was a really bad decision and imo the reason X Rank feels bad rn. Also getting +10s for going 3-0 or 3-1 in matches but losing -60s for going 1-3 or 2-3 is horrible, but idk at least I got to top 500 for the first time ever, so that's cool
Honestly, in my experience, I’ve been having a sort of mixed experience with X Rank. Sometimes, I do get atrocious teammates, that either we flat out lose or I have to hard carry the entire match, and other times we all know what we’re doing and it’s amazing. I’m not a professional player by any means, but I’d say I’m pretty good at the game after playing the series for 7 years and making it to S+26. I’m even in the top 2000 for Rainmaker for what it’s worth (and I’m fairly certain that last time I checked, it’s around that same area in other modes in X Rank.) I strongly agree the threshold required to get access to X Rank should’ve been S+20 minimum, it’s just so demoralizing when you get such bad teammates when you put in the effort to grind up to it in the first place, but you always have to remind yourself you’re not a bad player until you personally mess up, in which case, acknowledge how you messed up and what you can do to improve. Take the good with the bad basically.
I didn’t play much series when the update dropped so everyone had X but I was just like 400 points in to S and I’m am getting worse and worse matchmaking every single time I think putting the minimum rank to be high would be great but the thing is that I’m always fighting S+ players who are quite good at the game but now I get a triple and my team is sitting there and doing nothing. Also this games rank system is not nearly strict enough and is extremely Lose I’m it’s match making and I thing that Splatoon 2 was so much better same with the X rank points system. The real problem here is Nintendo needs to make matchmaking way better especially with the holiday coming up it’s time it get an upgrade.
So far, gaining +10 for winning 3 is the lowest gain I've seen, and so far, I'm ok with that. I remember several times in Splatoon 2 gaining +0 or +1 several times in a row. With that in mind, getting at least +10 for 3 matches feels a lot better. I also wager a part of the chaos of X rank right now is just because its a new season. Some people coming back to try it out. Some feeling motivation to try out new weapons that they aren't as good as they think they are at. That kinda thing. I'm thinking over time as that dies down and the X rank score gap increases that it will be more consistent.
That's not really that much better lol. You could argue that it's the same as 2, but for them not to improve it in ANY way is crazy. +10 for going 3-2 I could understand. But 3-0 is asinine
Personally I'm not going into X Battle until I get S+10 so I'm good enough since I want to learn new weapons on the way. But yeah, you're kinda right - lowering the entry requirements means that S+ players will all see the shiny new X Battle Mode (ie Try to be one of the best) and dive straight for it, leading to unbalanced matchmaking.
X rank is very hard somehow. I don't blame it on the teammates, I blame it on the points system. Like you said, I can get 10 points with a 3-0 but lose 70 with a 2-3. It doesn't motivate me to keep going, especially when I keep losing series (my x power in tower control is 1590)
Having a S+?? requirement won’t really make a difference other than unlocking for players that play a lot, regardless of skill. And I don’t think that’s the issue anyway. There are a few factors which seem to affect your matchmaking and whether you find it enjoyable. Latency, availability, comp, map/mode and time. In order to find 8 players who are looking to start a game within 120 seconds, the game makes concessions. Maybe it takes people from farther away resulting in higher pings. Maybe it takes people from a wider range of X Power. It more than likely completely ignores your weapon choice. And if the stages and modes are better in series or open, then the availability of players will be fewer exacerbating the problem. On top of all that, the only thing divisions do is add an additional separation which makes the matchmaking worse because you cannot be matched with closer, more similar power players just because they are in a different division. I’m fine with my power level being whatever it is because I’m a player of that level. I’m fine with playing with people of a similar level as myself, but I would like to feel that my score accurately reflects my ability. And when I go 2-3 and lose 78 points, or 3-1 and gain 10, I don’t feel that it does.
Yeah the entry level should definitely be higher. And tbh the matchmaking is not that great imo I remember seeing 3 of the same specials on the same team against a team with 0 of that special. And points in X battle could be better I remember going 2-3 and getting a -103
for me I get better teammates in x battles than in anarchy im having less battles where I get destroyed instantly or the enemy getting destroyed instantly it feels so much more fair and for the lag I havent really encountered lag if you dont count disconnects though it could be because I dont play alot I think it is alot better than anarchy
This isn't really a complaint for X Battles but just a matchmaking complaint in general. I keep getting put into games with players who are so much better than me, and it's made me lose my freshness on my Flingza. It's really not fair
I literally cannot win at all anymore. I always lose in battles no matter the game mode. I’m always splatting and inking the most yet I cannot win. I’ve tried literally every single weapon in game and none have helped me. I’ve been losing ever since the game came out. I feel like quiting due to how horrible I am at the game
If that's the case, there may be something you're not doing correctly in your gameplay. There are a variety of TH-cam tutorials on how to improve at splatoon. Check out ProChara, Squid School, and DUDE. I promise you can improve with the right tools
In my opinion, X battles are a joke. I feel like I constantly get screwed over by things like bad teammates who don’t know what they’re doing, zero team coordination, or games that feel straight up unwinable. One time I went 0-3 thanks to all the things I listed and lost over a hundred points. I honestly think the entry level for X battles should be at least S+10 like it was in Splatoon 2. That way people have to do a little bit of grinding and get used to playing with more experienced players.
I think they made it S+0 since they knew everyone would drop and people want to play X battles quickly instead of grinding to S+20 just to play but this made it so that people who just entered S+ can also play
Splatoon 3 is the hardest game to grind in solo queue. Simple due to the fact that enemy comps are random yet they seems to always favor the typical meta picks. If you’re not using the right weapon you’re literally denied of playing the game whatsoever. The maps are to blame, the matchmaking is a byproduct of our mediocre meta currently, and the possibility of sticking to a comp you enjoy makes anarchy mode 50000x more enjoyable than X. It does feel nice to get the 4 man solo wipe with the weapon you love against x rank players but not at the cost of potential one-sided skirmishes that ultimately make you question if the balancing of the game even exists.
Hey Chase! I’m the .52 you had to carry lmao. I’ve been in the x rank for over a year and have a peak x power of 2300-2400. From my pov, I was confused on why you were spamming “this way” because I thought I was pushing well enough and the other teammates weren’t or vice versa. Regardless, i thought I was dropping like 15 kills and playing good until the end when I started making dumb mistakes and got tilted bc of that roller. I also got pissed when we lost that lead but Ik you weren’t to blame bc you were destroying everyone. Definitely, me and teammates were to blame, but I thought none of us synergized and understood each other’s objective. Other from that, I agree with how the matchmaking in X rank sucks bc there will be games where I drop like 16 or 17 kills and my teammates drop like 5 kills and many deaths, but again no one is connecting or synergizing. Regardless, from that battle, I would appreciate to hear from a top 500 like you on things I did great and things I need to work on or should’ve done as I’m getting closer to top 500 soon. Thx chase!
Tbh, you were the best teammate on the team. I was spamming this way because as a team, we weren't working together at all. We were very staggered and not coordinating. And at the end I just spammed it because I was annoyed lol. But yeah that match was very tilt inducing lol
Haha, definitely agree. Also, I definitely wished I won some of the fights against their roller bc some of the fights, the roller came out of nowhere and I was locked and ready but kept missing my shots, even with my 2-3 sub abilities of IA. Definitely annoyed me especially when I was warmed up from the previous game we played together in spillway RM. Regardless, splatoon is all about thought process, concentration, etc and ig we gotta improve our mindset each game or unfortunate luck in ur case lol. See you in another match chase ✌🏽
I'm not surprised that the overall skill of x battles is lower, because it's much easier to climb to s+ in this game aince you cant drop rank by losing
Lowering the requirement gives bad players (players who are not good enough for x rank and are considered more s+ players) access to x battles. They should make the x rank requirement hire. Probably S+10 but I would like the requirement to be higher than that
The #1 problem with X Battle is that it’s series. This one mechanic has made it completely unplayable and unreliable. I dare say it’s so bad that X Power is no longer a measurement of skill at all. The softcap that exists in all elo games, even chess, is gone because top players gain points for free, and for everyone else, points are completely random. In no world should you be able to win 2 games and lose 3 with a several hundred power disadvantage and not go up significantly more than you go down, not should you be able to win 3 free games and throw 2 free games, only to get points anyway. This defeats the purpose of X Power being based on match difficulty and reverts to an S1 system of only caring about winrate and not match difficulty. Even Splatoon 2’s own series mechanic did not do this because the number of wins required to triumph, or the number of losses required to be out, changed depending on match difficulty, and yes, the Rank and Dark/Cracking Meter did behave like a series mechanic, and much better than 3’s. If X Battle keeps the series mechanic it shouldn’t even be in the game in the first place
I think the requirement for rank is definitely too low. X Battles should be a reward that's earned by being a high rank to compete against other high ranked individuals. I too don't like how the points work. It feels so demeaning to gain barely anything for winning and lose a ton for going 2-3.
There's no way to know for sure, but I think it's a safe bet to say that the calculation for X power is actually exactly the same as Splatoon 2. I bet they're doing the same thing that Overwatch is doing where the X power is actually recalculated after every match it just doesn't show you until it updates. In which case the gains and losses won't always make sense because it's based on how good the team you are going against was supposed to be. Is this a good system? Absolutely not. Every Overwatch comp player is complaining about ranked right now and splatoon's anarchy and x battles seem to be structured almost exactly the same and is not getting nearly the kind of hate that it deserves imo.
i feel like big N is doing the same thing as elon musk with twitter : they're trying stuff, it doesnt quite works, they're going to fix it. (talking about the point system here)
It should be S+30. You don’t deserve to be in X rank if you’re not good enough. I’m s+1(I don’t play the game a lot) but i don’t mind waiting a month or 2 to get to s+30
Exactly. S3 match making is horrible, I can lose 10 battles in a row even when I consistantly kill the most. They just give you the worst teammates no matter what. Now I play much less than before, because it's learned helplessness, no matter what I do I will just lose because Nintendo wants it to be that way. PS5 is more fun.
To me the whole system is trash. It should just be 6 playlists: Turf War, Zones, TC, RM, Clams, and Ranked. The first 5 would be open and Ranked would be basically what X is in Splatoon 3 but you would only be matched with people close to your X power. Like I would never get matched with you cuz your power would be too high for me. Simple as that. High rank players would only fight high rank players, mid ranks would only fight mid ranks, and low ranks would only fight low ranks. I remember back when I played Halo 3, we just had playlists for each mode and then a MLG playlist for the better players and it was fine. Idky they make you grind to unlock shitty X Battles and has no skill based matchmaking. Also the way each rotation is the same two maps over and over also sucks. It should also be like Halo or like CoD, people just vote for or against whatever map comes up. Playing the same two maps over and over for two hours is ridiculous, especially when one or both of them are trash.
X battles are so terrible like why are the front liners standing next to me throwing bombs all over the place for no reason (im using e-liter in this scenario)
I personally think that increasing the minimum rank in order to unlock x battles for the season isn’t the worst idea but man the amount of series grind each season to unlock it for the billionth time would just be tedious. Why not make it so that if you are in negative points you are locked out of x battles until you go positive again.
@@Chase247 I don’t think there is a mid season decay… But yes decreasing the end of season decay to account for the increased requirement to actually play it would be an effective solution. Or you could also have it so that if you meet the requirements for X battles and perform well enough in them you get to keep access to them the next season should you drop in ranks. Though I don’t really know how good of a solution my proposals are.
@@Chase247 it could also be that there aren’t enough players in X battles to have people of similar skill level match with each other constantly. I personally feel it should be the default ranked mode with the ranks being an indication of how good your glicko2 power is. Along with the average power in the lobby being shown at the start of the match and the result screen. Since your rank isn’t really an indication of how good you are at the game but rather an indication of how much you play the game. You can be extremely bad at the game and still be S+ and good at the game and be sitting in A rank. Especially when you can’t rank down outside of doing it intentionally. Having things like this would let the people who are good at the game reach the highest ranks without tedious grind while keeping the ones who aren’t capable of playing at that level in a rank they can have fun in. Is this solution perfect? No. People are going to say it’s trash for various reasons main one being them stuck in a low rank they don’t deserve be in according to them. Making it not the most fun thing in the world for people like them. I do believe that having something like this is better than the two ladder system we currently have.

That’s weird because for me the overall experience with X Battles has been basically the opposite, with Anarchy Series being so unbalanced while X Battles games being mostly more balanced, except for the last 10 or 20 matches but maybe it depends on how many players there are at the time.
I do think that lowering the entry requirement for X Battles was a bad idea, imo it should be changed to S+10 like it was in 2, if not higher
Doesn't change much IMO. Got to s+10 before chill season and I still do terribly.

There should’ve been a Toni Kensa Division for Europe specifically
But that’s just my input
@@MeMyselfI__ I understand why they didn't considering the number of people in the Asia region is GIGANTIC compared to NA and European combined, but for connection especially it's not a great one
The X Rank regions can't be the only case, bc since the update is released I get dcs like every 3 games in Turf and Anarchy as well all the time
@@fyyyyyynnn447 That's more explainable imo, a lot of people that finished the drizzle catalog or took a break are probably back for chill season and the new content, probably amongst those are people who have poorer connections or something who don’t play as frequently due to that limitation.
I’ve experienced the same thing. I believe that those people may be the newer X ranks that don’t play the same as x rankers from Splatoon 2.
@@melted_eclipse Pfp Sauce (Artist)? 🗿
Facts, but you mad shady for showing that match!
I don’t get why we need s+10 to keep our s+ rank at the end of the season, but you only need s+0 to do x battle. Make it both +10
That would be horrific because you rank down to S+0 at the end of the season. Yes I think you should have to be S+10 but that only works if you demote to S+10 at the end of a season and not S+0. I feel like a good metric for that would be to just base it on a minimum of 2000 XP to determine if you derank to S+10 or S+0
Same, it feels like this mode's real name is S battles not X battles
I’m having a terrible time even in Anarchy at S rank. Team mates who constantly stay inside the splat zone and get splatted. Opponents with a whole team of special spammers, torpedo spammers etc. Takes forever to get back to S+.
Same for me man… I’m in S Rank and it seems impossible to have good teammates!
Translated by Google:
Ever since the X matches were added, it didn't really stand out to me due to the matchmaking issues that will most likely get you matched up with a clumsy team that makes you lose immediately.I recommend that you play the X matches with friends because you will be in good hands and you know what they will do and they will be coordinated compared to pairing up with strangers.
You can’t play X Battles with friends.
Only Anarchy Open.
Yesterday I got +112 which was super surprising, but before that I was the same, super low point gains. So annoying 🙄
@@Chase247 That's true, that's a good point. This would probably be the best option.
TLDR
few points in wins == similar xpower to your team (or less)
laggy X = many didn't grind to S+10 so are now exiting S and entering X, will get better.
Aghhhh
This is why I like playing Salmon Run more this time.
If they ever did raise it to S+20, it should only decay your rank by 10 S+ levels at most, not bump everyone back to S+0
Pfp Sauce (Artist)? 🗿
Tbh I don't think it deserved to win with the very bad online and tons of communication errors. It's cool it got more publicity though
I think it makes sense overall, cause since you can stick with your team for multiple matches, your much more likely to get carried through ranked and you only need to get out of S rank without playing any games in S+ to unlock X battles
Hi I'm fairly new to X rank. heck I'm just 1700 lol. don't they match you with similar power levels? or is it free for all? (open to being roasted)
the game tries to, however it prioritizes fast matchmaking over even matchmaking. so if it doesnt find people near your power level within like 30 seconds, it just puts you with random power levels. and this happens very often sadly
@@Chase247 oooh makes sense.😯 thank you! ☺️
I had a situation where I gain 3 points for a 3/0 and a 2/3 gives me -110.
P A I N .
I completely agree my x pushes are just lobby rng
I’ve been getting steam rolled in S+ man… I felt Splatoon 2 had significantly more balanced teams. I usually have like 2 people who go super negative. I’m like Michael Phelps with how many gold medals I have …
LOL I love that analogy
Do you plan to race on the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 3 tracks at some point?
I don't really have time right now. But at some point yes

And I don’t even know how many points I lost because it was just too much
i have been having the same problem. like, i’ll be having teammates in the enemy spawn while they ko us because i cannot do a 1v4
I wanna see a pro dualie user use these weapons so I can get an idea on how to use them
It's unlikely, I hate that weapon lol. May do a fun video on it at some point but it's not a weapon I normally play
@Chase247 yea I feel that. Their playstyle is the complete opposite of tetras lol
4 times.
On the flip side, I seem to get competent teams at 0-2
Amazing video!!
i haven't played them yet (because i'm still in S rank after i got ranked down for the season end) but why is it a problem s+0 players can play in it? if you're getting matched with people way below your skill level, i don't think they should have to make it harder to join. instead nintendo should just make sure people are matched with those near their skill level.
I made a tweet showing that I lost over 170 for losing 3 games. Yeah, this is definitely disappointing
*Me, who normally plays at an A+ or S rank, stuck in C+ because I didn't play enough Ranked last season:*
*H e l p m e*
:37 is this not normal Splatoon gameplay? 😆 I’ve just accepted the enemy team can swim thru my ink and stuff. Just embraced the lag.
Yeah the entry level should definitely be higher. And tbh the matchmaking is not that great imo I remember seeing 3 of the same specials on the same team against a team with 0 of that special. And points in X battle could be better I remember going 2-3 and getting a -103
for me I get better teammates in x battles than in anarchy im having less battles where I get destroyed instantly or the enemy getting destroyed instantly it feels so much more fair and for the lag I havent really encountered lag if you dont count disconnects though it could be because I dont play alot
I think it is alot better than anarchy
This isn't really a complaint for X Battles but just a matchmaking complaint in general. I keep getting put into games with players who are so much better than me, and it's made me lose my freshness on my Flingza. It's really not fair
The game really needs to do a better job of matching skill levels, in all modes
@@Chase247 exactly. It doesn't help that you can't see the other players' levels while matchmaking
What’s ur sens-
+4.5, +5
Surprisingly, I've gotten nothing but decent teammates. Albeit I've only played like...four x battles? But uh. Yeah.
Probably S+10 but I would like the requirement to be higher than that
Hehehe, I am literally cannon fodder in every match I play in this, personally I just wanted to have more ranked modes available to play..
X rank at S+0 is absolutely ridiculous, they need to bring it back to 10, or higher.
Requirement for X should be S+9/10 and my god increase the points gained
i feel like big N is doing the same thing as elon musk with twitter : they're trying stuff, it doesnt quite works, they're going to fix it. (talking about the point system here)
I can't even get X Battles yet cause I didnt reach s+10 so sad
It should be S+30. You don’t deserve to be in X rank if you’re not good enough. I’m s+1(I don’t play the game a lot) but i don’t mind waiting a month or 2 to get to s+30
Exactly. S3 match making is horrible, I can lose 10 battles in a row even when I consistantly kill the most. They just give you the worst teammates no matter what. Now I play much less than before, because it's learned helplessness, no matter what I do I will just lose because Nintendo wants it to be that way. PS5 is more fun.
Just got s+0 and I think x rank should make you play other people with the same x power
S+0 i feel like is fine for x rank but if you stay under S+10 then you got to get S+ again sooo ye idk
It's like one anarchy series to get back to S+0. It really isn't much of a hassle at all
@@Chase247 ye
Bro I went 3-2 in my Rm placements and got 1800. Im still salty about it
WHAT???
agreement with the getting bad teammates
X battles are so terrible like why are the front liners standing next to me throwing bombs all over the place for no reason (im using e-liter in this scenario)
From the looks of it, I'm just gonna stick with anarchy. The points you mention make it sound more frustrating than Splat2 X rank lol
It kinda is lmao
I got a -95 in 3 losses and i would say it’s terrible 😢and I was at 2200
I personally think that increasing the minimum rank in order to unlock x battles for the season isn’t the worst idea but man the amount of series grind each season to unlock it for the billionth time would just be tedious.
Why not make it so that if you are in negative points you are locked out of x battles until you go positive again.
That's fair. They could also minimize the decay mid season if they do ever raise the entry level.
@@AnekinRed Sorry, I dont know why I said mid. I meant in between seasons lol
