One time in Rainmaker, we were being spawncamped. It was so annoying, and they kept squidbagging us. It wasn't until one of my teammates decided to sneak into the enemy base and put a bunch of beacons, and since the enemy team didn't want to finish the objective. of course, instead of finishing the match, their entire team went to their base. we knocked out their entire team and won the match. Whoever plays down those beacons is such a legend.
Ikr I HATE IT 😤and I’m sorry to the people I’ve spawn camped I just really needed to win 😔 if I am in their base I won’t squidbag them because I know how they feel 💔
the problem is not spawncamping but making fun of your opponent. People who feelthey are better than others and treat others like stupid is disgusting. But that also happens in life so i dont know what people actully want with complaining all the time if they think this will stop any day
To anyone who gets frustrated by Spawn camping: Keep painting, avoid dying, throw bombs and charge your special! Re-taking from disadvantage is a team effort, do your part by avoiding death and using your special to create space.
Yes! Charging special is the one advantage you actually have in spawn! Bait the campers into wasting their specials deep in you spawn, then paint over whatever is most difficult for them to reach. The more you can cover what they can't, the more you'll deprive them of resources!
kinda had to do if your weapon + sub weapon is sh*t at farming special. oh, you wanted to try something different like neo sploosh? good luck farming special with your low range weapon, sub that can't paint, and heck, your special isnt even that good to deal with spawn campers
To anyone who's had to put up with squidbagging spawncampers: one fact worth knowing is that they aren't anything special; they're just bulllies. People so desperate to feed their fragile egos that they'll try to farm validation by harassing, insulting, and putting other people down. Don't let it get under your skin. Stay focused; don't stagger; wait for the rest of your team, stay alive, farm special, and if you lose the match, don't let it bother you. The experience doesn't say anything about you; only that you've had the misfortune of encountering very malicious people who've been empowered by monstrously awful game design. (Also definitely DO report them, so at least justice will be served at the end of the day.
I had a teammate do the b**ch spawn camp in one of my solo rainmaker series. He grabbed the rainmaker so we pushed all the way to the pedestal and instead of placing it he just stood there spawn camping them until he exploded. He then grabbed the rainmaker again before any else could (all 3 of us tried) and contined spawn camping them until the game timer ran out (The game timer ran out before the rainmaker timer). I can't imagine how the other team felt. 😢😤
At that point I would genuinely put my controller down or just step off to the side in game. It shows to the other team that you're not on that guy's side and that you're not trying to help him spawn camp and hold the game hostage.
For future reference: At that point, probably better to just stop playing that match. This-way the rest of the team and back off as a trio of morally literate players; and if they're cut out of the same cloth as the bully carrying the rainmaker, at least the other team knows you know better.
You know…. The same thing happened to me and my team in BrineWater Springs about a month back. It was a hydra who was gold X rank. I reported him of course. But it was disgusting… Edit: it was rainmaker.
I kind of agree with Chase here, splatoon does match people with differing skill levels to ridiculous levels, so it still is a problem even for people of decent skill levels vs people who want to try out the mode. I remember once I was playing open with one of my long distance friends and wanted to wind down the day with him, four players just decided to ignore rainmaker and spawncamp us with the rainmaker instead of dunking. I think the real fault lies with the specific people who feel like feeding their egos by spawncamping in open against people of less skilled players and Nintendo's matchmaking causing such huge gaps in skill between teams. I hope they do fix these thing in the next game via harsher reinforcement of the rules and/or Nintendo just having a better system for matching players.
I always have this problem. The game doesn't know how to match me with people of the correct skill level. Whether opponents and teammates. It's really frustrating due to how frequent it is. Every ranked or X match is a gamble. I play this game to improve and have fun. And having fun and winning aren't inheritly the same thing for me. I dislike being on either side of a team getting decimated. It feels bad to go through, and it feels bad putting others through it. I boggles my mind that I've been paired with people who have placed top 1,000 or less in X and the game thought it was fine. I also really really hope they fix this. Gambling to potentially have fun is not, well, fun
tbh I think I always be against someone more experienced then me. (A+ here) but I’m more casual and play splatoon but wanna play rank. But at times I feel like it’s more hard to have a good team in the a rank area.
also, i think the phrase "just improve" is a bit disingenuous due to the fact that even persons of equal or unequal skill can do nothing but wait in spawn wen ppl splat u, and make a B-line to your spawn to solo-special you. Spawn camping is really only annoying because ppl who do it love gain special after a splat, gain special running to ur spawn and use special to solo kill u. By the time u respawn, u probably have wait out 2 more specials. And depending on the game mode. U only really need to die about 3-5 times before the game ends.
THANK YOU CHASE. 5:33 is genuinely such a good tip. When playing turf during splatfest, just staying calm, not freaking and feeding will help you out so much. Chargenup your special to use with your teammates and it helps most of the time. It sounds like a "git gud" statement but one of the best in this video
That's why I like weapons with splat bomb or suction bomb. It's easy to build up your special with, and it's satisfying to wipe out the opposing team with. 😂
Remember that if you do encounter malicious spawncampers in the wild (people who just farm kills) you can report them for unsportsmanlike play in the lobby terminal
I believe that spawncamping shouldn't be a reportable offense still, since it is just playing the game. it's on the developers for designing maps to make it so easy in the first place.
Reporting people is so weird in Splatoon 3. You have to do it in Battle Logs and even then the icon for it is suuuuper tiny. Wish you could just do it in the battle menu lol
"For playing the game" My friend... They're not playing the game if they're not paying attention to the objective (AKA the reason why the match exist) 🙏🏼 Ofc the maps and matchmaking don't help, but if Nintendo wont fix it then theres not another option (at least for now) @@KuvaChakkhurr
It's actually really fascinating how the whole spawncamping discourse highlights all the problems this game has: Turf war is the only purely casual mode this game has to offer? It doesn't have a knockout condition. Use the spawn armor to try and fight back? The matchmaking system could have just matched you with players way above your skill level. Try using your spawn armor and the high ground to build specials to retaliate? There's usually only one or two ways to enter the middle of the map, AND you need to coordinate your specials with your teammates to try to even begin to make space with weaker specials against skilled opponents. It's true that a lot of the people who complain about spawncamping are people who like to play casually, and it really sucks that they end up having a really bad experience because of all the above issues. You're absolutely right about spawncamping not being the problem itself.
I think the spawncamping problem has gotten worse in splatoon 3 because the matchmaking deliberately makes unfair games more frequently. Previous it would get 8 people and randomly throw them together, so unfair games were due to bad luck. But now it matches 4 similar level players together and then matches 2 groups of 4 together, meaning often the 4 best players are on 1 team and the 4 worst on the other. So steamrolling happens more frequently. Mostly a side effect of being able to guarantee you play on the same team as your friends this time round, and this can be seen in turf wars, if you make a drop-in turf room with a group, the average games is much more fair than going in teamed up.
matchmaking in 3 actually looks fair compared to how bad it is in 1. I started grinding to S+ on my pretendo account and now it groups you with every rank but there are some ppl that are low ranks but obviously played splat 1 in its hay day and then there are some actual noobs that are actually C rank. The game NEVER pairs me with the fake C ranks and gives me the legit ones its so dumb
As someone who only really plays Turf when playing PvP modes, getting spawn camped and killed right out the gate is certain a frustrating experience if it's happening the whole three minutes. So long as the team doing it to me aren't being obvious assholes about it, I just take a deep breath after the game and move on. Sometimes, someone will splat me and then do something hilarious rather than squidbag, like somehow stare directly up into thesplat camera view, or shake their head like a disappointed parent or something. Silly and deliberate things like that make the sting of losing become a funny memory instead; it's less aggravating when they treat your loss in good faith. Usually if I'm in the position where I'm spawn camping the other team, if I push up really far into their base, I'll turn around and leave to paint up random bits of the map and then stay in the center until they regain some footing. I can't control the rest of my team or anything of course, but I just know how frustrating it can get for the enemy team and I don't like adding to it. Besides that, spawn camping that hard is boring to me, and I prefer games where it feels like there's a genuine back and forth between people of similar skill. If I really want to win, I'll stay and keep camping a bit, but I focus more on the objective of painting the map over killing. If the other team just... gives up. I'm not gonna keep slapping them. If they wanna keep fighting, I'll fight. I'd rather meet the other team where they're at, cause at the end of the day, I'd prefer it if everyone had fun during the match.
I extremely agree with this. I don't like when people spawn camp me - so why would I do it back to others? I know I can't control what my teammates do - but I'm lucky enough that so far none of them have been able to hold down 4 members of a team at once lol I like to do the same as you, if I manage to get a wipeout and am still on their base, I'll usually just go back to middle despite arguably having the upper hand if I stayed. I think it's just a snarky move to stay. I think the only times I've ever spawn camped was because of a toxic player on their team (which isn't the team's fault whatsoever for those who were paired with them! It's just frustrating and I do feel bad about taking it out on the entire team) but that's mostly it.
Getting Spawn camped sucks so much. It's mainly happened to me in Turf/Splatfests. Personally I'm glad "Spawn Camping to be a b*tch" is a bannable offense
I played with the latter type once. One of the times I went into SendouQ, I grouped with some people who all didn't want to talk for some reason. The group we went up against were lower ranked than us, and even without call outs we had a easy time winning. But I started to notice it was taking too long to win despite our advantage. I was playing Wiper at the time so I was defaulting to aggressive positions and again without chat it was hard to coordinate roles clearly, so I decided then to switch to objective duty. Makes sense. But then, I would get the KO, and the others would message me things like "Why did you end the game?" I went on to make sure we ended the following matches as soon as we were able, in part because duh, and in part because I wanted to leave this team as soon as possible. That's the only time that's happened at least and that was the last time I was tolerant to people not wanting to chat. Such a gross experience
I remember on twitter someone tweeted how the user got banned and question why. Then someone shows the chunk of the match in the rank mode*(clam blitz) where they mostly go for kills then doing objective. And flex with a pic. Which the ban was understandable since if you aren’t doing objective. The opposing team has the right to report about it.
I was accidentally spawncamping with a whole team of randoms in open once. I was playing Vdualies and my other teammates had a stamper and a machine neo I think. There was a rapid blaster pro on our team as well. Once we got an opening wipe, I stood on tower to clear first check and to get on their plat easily because I was the closest one to it at the time. Afterwards though, the rapid didn't stand on tower for the whole rest of the match. They just kept spawn camping as well. We eventually KO'd in the last 30 seconds of the game but I felt bad about the whole situation. I only didnt want to do objective cause there was a backline player who definitely should have
Great video Chase, as always. I will say I think spawn camping in turf war is a bit of a grey area where it falls under both 'to win' and 'being a bitch' categories. But again, it's mostly a problem with the mode as you outlined. Still, when I play turf war, in general I find games where no spawn camping occurs to be significantly more fun than games where it does, from either side. Being spawn camped sucks, and I also don't really enjoy spawn camping either. So I think there's a case where spawn camping in turf war, while optimal play and is contributing to the 'objective' of the mode, is still a dick move.
Thank you so much for this video. I don’t know if you take request but I wanted to ask for this kind of video on spawn camping and I’m glad you made it. This is what so many players need to hear.
I think it kinda depends on what mode youre playing. In objective modes such as rainmaker and tower control i get it. It helps your team progress objective. I personally dont push to spawncamp because I'm an objective whore, but i dont hate people who do. But in turf, i hate it. I hate it so bad. Its so irritating. Its worse when the enemy team books it for your spawn without inking their own base.
I wish i had more hands because with 2 i can not clap enought to you. That is a good video with good reasoning and explanations. I bet people crying and complaining for spawn camping are bad players or casual ones. Is how game works, Is a game based on a war between two teams to get the space you can on a match. People just complain when they lose. If you dont want to lose, IMPROVE. People want easy things with easy results and cry when they dont get what they want. Sometimes you will get spawncamped, sometimes you will spawncamp. As you said, IS HOW GAME WORKS. So improve or quit the game, bro. Life does not give you always a free win and you have to fight for it. I know is easier complaining when you lose than actually trying. And sometimes the correct thing is what we dont want to hear, so well said, Chase
See, this makes sense. I can agree with this! I'm more casual, so most of my matches are turf war. When the enemy is spawn camping to win, it's annoying because we're losing, sure, but that's something that can easily fixed by getting creative with your approach and either splatting them or sneaking around to go clean the map. Could never be mad at them for just being good. HOWEVER. There was one recent match that I will not forgive. It was random teams so this guy wasn't working with him team to paint the map. Instead, he came all the way up to the spawn area of my team without painting a SINGLE INCH except for a tiny puddle right in front of spawn, which he then hid in and waited. I was using a brush at the time, so when I respawned, I went to quickly clean that spot before I moved, only for that player to pop out and immediately shoot me in the face. My teammate took him out right after that, but seriously. Talk about your spawn camping to be a bitch examples. He got nothing out of it since he didn't ink any turf so it was exclusively to be an asshole!
I appreciate your considered and holistic evaluation of the issue, Chase. Considering as you have done how many players who complain about spawn-camping skew to the more casual attitude about the game (self included), I hope the devs will eventually realize a better way to arrange their entry-level format (Turf War) to reduce feel-bads for players getting pub-stomped. It's true that there are modes of the game less focused around competition, and the devs are clearly interested in continuing to develop and create more modes, but players have been getting creative and suggesting great ways to rebuild Turf War as well as the Splatfest formats, many of which could have been attainable changes with the devs' time and resources, so maybe they'll be able to make improvements on S4.
Actually a great video. Going into this I expected it to be some rant about not being able to do anything about being spawn camped and ranting about it being unfair, but you actually explained the whole topic very well and I thank you for getting this out here for other people to see and take some notes on.
Spawncamping has and prolly always has been the CORRECT way to actually try to win turf war tbh. Since the entire map IS THE OBJECTIVE ITSELF. It basically means we are "holding" the objective to win. (Imagine Splat Zones but... the zone is the entire map lol). This is prolly another reason why I don't get why people prefer turf as a casual mode over anarchy open when turf is just utterly bullshit most of the time and requires you to genuinely just "get better at the game" in order for turf to be feasible at the very least.
Well, turf war is a lot simpler and attuned for casual, as there are less stakes, less rewards, no objective that clumps teammates together, and a shorter amount of time to play, not to mention that turf war IS the mode that all players, including beginners, start playing on. Spawn camping has always had negative reception throughout the lifetime of the game. And if it always is known as a problem, then clearly there might be a problem in that case right? I mean, imagine this: someone starts playing Splatoon, they have fun, and on their second day of playing, they get spawn camped. You might think "just get better, lol" but they can't, they've just started, and in turf was, it's very common for newer players to have this happen to them because they're less experienced. So instead, they feel like they can't do anything and are fighting against a losing battle, which they are at that skill level. Not to mention that splatfests have the same nature except the players themselves make it a lot more competitive with the stakes being raised: fighting for your own team. Chase may have said that it's a means to win the game, he never said it was good sportsmanship (mind you, he didn't say it was bad sportsmanship either, but he said it was "okay', which feels like he's referring to it as being morally passable) even though that it how people play the game correctly currently, is it how the game SHOULD be played? I feel that no, it's bad sportsmanship, as you're making the match hard to play, and not fun for the other players.
@Cicadacakes I mean, losing certainly isn't fun, but I dont think just not actually trying to win and letting your opponents run around is good practice either. At that point why even bother playing?
@@Cicadacakes it honestly is how it should be played tbh. The only problem is the game SUCKS ASS at explaining turf war to newer players and explaining how it should be played and knowing what is considered a valid strat or not.
I don't think Turf War itself is the problem when it comes to spawncamping, the real problem is the map design. Sure, spawncamping in turf war was a thing in the previous game but the key difference here is that Splatoon 2 still had maps with multiple routes out of spawn so the spawncampers still had to strategize to effectively spawncamp. In Splatoon 3 spawncamping is now braindead easy because most of the maps in this game are either hallways, tetris pieces, small, or a combination of the former and the latter. Funny how it always comes back to the map design when we talk about different problems with this game.
I disagree. Especially in turf war, the maps are heavily designed to favor the defending team in a “spawn camping” scenario as-is. I’m not really sure what one could do to change that, aside from dramatic design choices like divided exits from spawn.
@@BluVapour Actually, Splatoon 3’s maps are arguably better when it comes to avoiding spawncamping, Splatoon 2 had the same problem of maps not having routes, but they didn’t have good defensive positions like Splatoon 3 maps tend to have.
Depends on what you mean. There were maps in Splatoon 2 where the enemy team could physically reach your spawner, like Moray Towers, and if they outranged you and could kite you, you were just absolutely dead in the water. Splatoon 3 makes it impossible simply space out a stationary spawn point. But there are maps like Umami Ruins and the old design of Mahi Mahi where the spawn area is absolutely garbage for pushing back through as the defending team.
5:04 so real I have 2000+ wins in turf and usually have a win ratio of around 32 Wins to 18 Losses and I still get brand new players in my matches and rollers who don’t fling and only roll
Spawn campers are so annoying, especially when they squidbag right after a knockout. I never had a situation where a team ignores the objective, but how petty do you have to be to do this? Like just knock us out and finish the objective like dang 😭😭
The WORST case of the last kind of spawncamping I've seen was one awful video of a Splatoon 2 match, on Clam Blitz Musselforge, where all four players of one team were spawncamping another poor team. They weren't scoring at all, both teams were stuck tied at 100-100, the team being camped couldn't escape no matter how hard they tried because the entire other team was camping them, so they couldn't score, and the camping team REFUSED to ever score, and this continued the whole match. So what did this mean? This meant that the camping team FORCED the camped team not just to miserably sit through the entire 5 minutes of the match, but to sit through THE ENTIRE FIVE MINUTES OF CLAM BLITZ OVERTIME, meaning they were stuck sitting there for TEN FREAKING MINUTES getting miserably bullied while no one scored and ended the match. The match didn't end until the game forced it to end at the end of overtime, STILL at a 100-100 tie. And the camping team didn't even win, the game decided to award the win to the camped thankfully, so the campers got nothing out of it other than just bullying 4 other people for ten minutes.
Honestly the moment you mentioned the spawn camping to be a bitch I already KNEW where this is going. Thank you cause I've been preaching this for so fricking long... like spawn camping to win is more complicated. But the level of spawn camping to be a bitch is truly just... It's vile imo not even because like, you can turn it around to win, but it's like literally a waste of everyone's time. Like it's truly the bittersweet ending, regardless of if you win or lose. We hate these people so much and honestly I'd be okay with this whole topic if people were complaining about THAT more than just... the whole spawn-camping to win. Like sorry that's truly just a nature of the game, if ya don't like it well, either get good, queue out of that lobby and wait a bit, or don't play.
Great analysis and distinction between the ways spawn camping can occur. When in a situation like that, it’s best to chill back and use sub weapons to catch enemies off guard while also doing what you can to gather up a special or two.
The one thing I hate about spawn camping strategies in ranked is that some specials like Trizooka can ignore the spawn armor completely. Like, I'm not even on the ground yet. Specials should not be able to do that. I could understand if someone waits for the armor to disappear, then use their special, but some specials can feel downright oppressive in that moment. This is just a game problem, not a player problem. I wish Nintendo would path that out.
do you think it would fix turfwar if the turfing points actually mattered? like..the more you turf the more points you get and those points will decide the winner INSTEAD OF LITERALLY THE LAST SHOT OF THE MATCH
I remember in Splatoon 1, spawn camping in Turf War normally happened either when someone disconnected, or certain maps made it very easy, such as Port Mackrel and Bluefin Depot. Usually Turf War matches felt fair to me. I also recall Spawn Camping was bad during Splatfests, since western players were not as skilled as Japanese players and regular games almost always had me and many others with Japanese players. In Splatoon 2 and 3, spawn camping was more likely to happen I've noticed, especially if your team doesn't take control of the map soon enough. And often times, it feels like the only way to put a stop to it was to sneak out of spawn through a side route without being seen. Or maybe jump to a beacon that wasn't destroyed. I think it was mainly because of the map design that caused this and on some maps it's much harder to sneak out of spawn than others. Sometimes spawn camping happens because one player wasn't really doing their job and isn't playing as well as they should or don't understand their weapons role.
This is why, when I get to the point that I'm spawn camping, I literally stop myself in the middle so they still have room to maneuver. That or if I'm in a team that's losing and I manage to make it to the enemy spawn, I can use spawn camping as a way to turn the tides and let my own team out of their spawn
respawn invincibility should really be buffed and last longer, its still possible to readily get killed through that respawn armer instantly upon landing especially my dynamo, lots of things shread the armer in one hit regardless of the DPS rate. onen idea would be to set damage rates to the respawn armor done by each weapon ( eg: dynamo only can do 50 dmg to the armor, hydra can only do 5, etc.)
I had a match of clamz where I was doing really good with octobrush. I knew I could get 30 kills if I didn’t KO them at 45 seconds left but it felt wrong if I did so I KOd them and had 28 kills. We weren’t necessarily spawn camping. They were good enough to get us out of their base but not good enough to get to our base to score more than once.
Spawn Camping Sucks imo. I've improved to the point where enemy spawn camping success is rare now at least. But i think the core problem really does fall in the matchmaking. I get a lot of teammates that just throw themselves to the enemy over and over in spawn. And even when I manage to make an opening to take back turf, they don't so. This happens in X Battles. By the way, the matchmaking in X Battles was good for a while, at least in Japan, but one of the updates completely ruined that mode too.
Thanks for this- i dont understand spawn camping complaints when in 4/5 modes, spawn camping is really the intended way to play the game. Tower control is really the only mode where you could argue that the team should *always* be on the objective and even then thats up for debate
I've never been spawn camp before in my splatoon career, but I've received replay codes from friends that have. They always report players that spawn camp instead of winning the match as fast as possible
spawncamping to win is like dunking a basketball over the target’s head in professional game spawncamping to be a jerk is like stepping on an infant to dunk in the child sized hoop
Honestly the first time where I got spawn camped so hard was in a match on brine water most of the opposing team where using long rage stuff like gals and the Jet Squelchers they where actually very strong and it happened on turf war so my teammates got wiped out pretty much at the start they painted really quickly and then all four team members started to spawn camp us the worst part is that they where hardcore cuz if they I remember me trying to sneak my way behind them but then they send the gal after me such pain
I am generally in agreement with this. I want to bring up one other type of spawn camping that isn't necessarily malicious but does have a negative impact, primarily on the camper's own team. I think it's mainly a bad habit developed in turf war that becomes a much worse habit in ranked: Sometimes individual players will waste a lot of time by prioritizing spawn camping without considering the state of the game. They will either rush into the enemy spawn the moment they see an opening and an enemy down or shark there after their team got pushed back. Instead of contributing to an active fight behind them they focus on catching individual enemies off guard when they respawn and usually waste a lot of time in exchange for a single kill and stalling one or two players briefly before they go down. This forces their team to fight down a player the entire time and also makes things much less fun for whichever enemy player ends up being the first to spawn in (few things more frustrating than being the backline going to swim for mid only to get splatted the moment I drop from spawn by a roller hidden in a single dot of enemy ink). Having the choice to spawn in anywhere in a small area instead of of just one spot is another way splat 3 tries to mitigate spawn camping and it's often helpful. The rest of my comments are about the map details you decided not to discuss as I think they make a huge difference in whether spawn camping is 'fair'. Its worth emphasizing that you can get a high ground/flanking advantage or completely bypass spawn campers by using alternate safe or safe-ish routes out of spawn. I'm personally of the opinion that all maps should really have this option. The ones that don't have it typically are also the ones with relatively low spawn platforms that leave defenders exposed to attacks. In some cases this is a problem specific to certain map modes. Sometimes it's just a factor of a specific map mode being too restrictive about where you can spawn (ie. only allowing you to spawn in a specific corner of the spawn area). While there's a lot to criticize with some of the spawn designs and even more to criticize about turf war map design I will give credit that they mitigated spawn camping in turf war a little bit by making spawns less accessible to the enemy than in other modes.
If you're playing an Aerospray in turf war and your team gets pushed back, you're getting spawn camped. That's how you beat the weapon, by denying it the ability to paint and get specials, and why it's like a bottom 20 turf war weapon. It sucks when you want to play support and get queued with three other supports, or you get a team with literally zero paint and can't physically move forward no matter what you do, but that's not the fault of the other team.
How to fix spawn camping if the enemies choose to move in to your base: Increase Ink Consumption (Main and Sub) Decrease Swim Speed Increase Points for special Has Thermal Ink effect for tracking These nerfs reset when the enemy leaves the base and joins their teammates to help with objective. These nerfs has a stronger effect the longer you stay in their base
where does the base start and end? this just makes the team camp on the outside of the debuff zone to kill you, not to mention it's required to get in the opponent's base in 3 out of the 4 ranked modes
I was playing rainmaker on undertow last night and the spawncamping of my team got so bad that 2-3 enemy players were directly on the spawn platform. I blame the map design for even allowing that but it's just not fun to face, even though there's nothing wrong with doing it.
Okay two things. 1. When the entire team is constantly throwing bombs into spawn, i think thats bs. Like let the team actually spawn in. Give them a chance to fight. 2. When the winning team wipesout and the opposong team rushes in to keep them back to win, thats obviously okay because um... Thats the game. Keep them back to give your team a chance. Edit: ive had this happen in turf war. The opposing team had no paint on their base, just a stream line straight to our side, and mid barely painted. Im pretty sure they only painted mid for specials lol
It would be SO EASY for Nintendo to drastically mitigate spawn camping by making spawn armour unbreakable; I really hope that they think of making that change at some point.
100% agreed with your points in the video. I have been absolutely locked in spawn before (and not just in this game) and yeah it does suck, but outside of your second point it mostly is how the game is designed. What people should really be on Twitter and reddit complaining about is the completely busted matchmaking that let that obvious imbalanced match happen in the first place. I have only experienced your second point once, and yeah, what a bunch of douches they were. Unfortunately there was no turn around for that game and it was 5 minutes of them getting kills. It sucks, but I have only seen it once in my almost 1k hours of playtime so thankfully it isn't the norm by any means.
Once my worst enemy was my own team, the 3 of them dedicated themselves to spawncamping without putting the Rainmaker on the pedestal and every time I tried to grab it they took it away, until at the end of the game I was able to grab it and put it myself. I hate that kind of players and I report them all, on that occasion I would have disconnected so that the other team would not count it as a defeat, but I did not want to lose my winning streak.
Actually, I realise now that in solo q i've already had people farming kills and not doing the objective in my team, i would get so mad cause i want to go to the next game and finish my series, usually these games got ot overtime which is so annying. So i agree with you
I think one thing about splatoon is getting splatted by the same player over and over is a pain. Like even if you get the edge they still get you. Spawncamping is a pain, but it makes sense for objective and trying to win, but also doing it to be a jerk is a huge no. Ngl the opposite team deserve that loss
I completely agree. In some other games, me and my friends will spawncamp for fun, but yeah, never in ranked/anarchy and never in Splatoon. Camping for fun in Anarchy is a really trashy move
I don't mind getting spawn camped if it's ranked and they knock out the match. I do however mind if they're just kill farming, I wasn't on the enemy team but sadly those kill farmers were on my team. I felt so bad man :'') I was the only one trying to score clams to get the knockout but with NO help I couldn't hold the basket open for long enough. The enemy Team mostly disconnected and in the end all three other of my Teammates had 30 kills each. I blocked them after this.
It happened in rainmaker once. A gold X rank hydra even dove it off the stage beside the objective to flex. They kept splatting us over and over in base until someone did the right thing and completed the objective. It made me more determined to improve my game. Though…. Ngl it sucked to experience it.
I'm usually playing slayer weapons so I tend to rack up a higher K/D if I'm playing well with my main group, but I still end up feeling a bit bad about spawncamping if I'm playing Turf with some friends because.. well, they don't like it and I don't want them to not have fun. With friends at least, I usually chill near mid to give them a chance. And sometimes, they actually make the comeback. Losing ain't fun, but if it means my friends get to have fun too then I'll happily take some losses.
What's more annoying to me is when I respawn and jump to my teammate, I often get splatted the second I land! Even with 'stealth jump' enabled, I still get camped! Not at spawn, but next to the teamate that died while I was jumping!
One time in a turf war there was this team of ppl, they had the same symbol at the end of their names, same outfit and everything. They were insanely good and kept spawn camping and squid bagging us, but then one of our teammates literally snapped live on camera and suddenly wiped them out and did the bomb wave squidbag thing idk how tf they did that were they just sick and tired of them splatting us and immediatley splatting us again right after we respawned and somehow got stronger cuz of it? But like dis was the best part, at 10 secs left, we were in danger and they were celebrating too early, then someone snuck to the middle, ppl started jumping but i kept at spawn to make the other team think we were still losing, then once they saw that we werent in danger anymore, they all turned around at the same time it was perfect, i splatted 2 of them and inked extra turf and threw a bomb and the rest of my team was holding a bomb squidbag thing at the 1 person left on our side and we won, squid bagged them in the lobby, then we all left but they were shooting at us in the lobby even tho it doesent do anything lol🤣 the best time ive had in any splatoon game for sure😂
I've often felt, especially in Turf War that there should be a zone near spawn (how far out depending on the map) that has built-in respawn punishing, at least in Turf War, and maybe Clams (depending on the basket location). It would give the spawners a better chance to break the spawn camp. Just a little buffer zone where players can play, but it's risky to enter and get splatted in. It might slightly rebalance things when camping or being camped. . Obviously too late for such a thing now, but maybe something that could happen in Splatoon 4. 🤔
I don't like spawncamping in any shooter game. Still, I too did it in the past, including S1 and S3. Not to spawn blindly when you know there is someone at your base is actually important IMO. The times I mostly run into spawn campers tho is in Splatfests and lower ranks.
i feel bad whenever there's someone who it's their first game playing because it's just unfair. i go easy on them though. and i try not to spawn camp them
at least in games like Overwatch, u run the risk of abandoning the objective in order to spawn camp. Since the design of the game has the objective fairly far from spawn points for 90% of the game, u can't simply "cap point" then "leave point" and expect the game to progress. Hence, a simple mechanic change to each mode wud be, _* at least 1 person must have the objective active in order to progress the game.*_ Turf war is a bit more difficult tho
Though I consider spawn camping under any circumstance scummy (when I do it and when it’s done to me), I always say that if it’s possible to do in normal gameplay (without hacks, out of bounds clips, etc) it shouldn’t be a bannable offense. As such, I would then lay the blame on Nintendo for putting the game in such a state in the first place, where such things are not only possible but even easy in some cases. In short, I’d blame the terrible maps and spawning mechanics of this game. The spawn armor needs to be invincible, and respawn punisher should be induced on those killed by someone with active armor. Also, we need the old map design styles back with many, many routes out of spawn, making spawn camping much more difficult to do (most of 3’s maps all share the same bland design “Tetris block” styles anyway-sole exceptions being maps brought from 2, cuz even maps brought from 1 were remade with 3’s styles). The way this game not only has the easiest maps to get up to the spawn location on and sometimes has only one or two routes out of spawn, but also provides no invincible dome (or invincible armor) for you to stand in should you be spawn camped, will never not be ridiculous to me. All that being said, we all know Nintendo won’t change anything for the better at this point so… git gud lol.
as someone with 1200 hours ive never experienced trouble with spawncamping personally, sometimes we have matches where our entire team is so much worse than theirs and we lose for the whole match after getting spawncamped for a while, but i blame the mode, like in rainmaker scorch gorge where its so hard to ko even if ur spawncamping because the pedestal is right at their spawn chute.
I just want to point out that first tweet you showed? Posted by my friend, was meant to be satire, but a LOT of people are gonna think they were serious LMAOOO
Its not really a mode problem for turf wars, its a matchmaking issue. Turf Wars just don't skill based matchmake. I have no problems with spawncamping and I play a lot of turf wars, its just noticeably I get matched with high skilled players constantly lol. Because yes, if you're around equal skills, spawn camping doesn't typically happen in turf wars to the extent of it happening for longer than half the match. Even with plenty of higher skilled enemy team players, I never really considered it a huge turf war problem. Also the fact that the match does end at the same time, spawncamping is still far more enjoyable than squid parties. I enjoy turf wars with spawncamping, kinda changes the game flow and focus on teamwork. We're playing the game, I still have a chance of coming back in the end and breaking up the spawncampers formation. Sometimes spawncampers do just throw the game for extending too much. Its far less likely going to happen against a team of high skilled players, but yeah, thats matchmaking issue lol. My X rank friend told me about all these amazing well known players we kept facing in Splatfest Open during Grand Fest. I still find those matches enjoyable, being able to splat these high skilled players and focusing on teamwork to create advantages.
I will say, I wish there were a better way to communicate spawncamping to teammates. Ouch works on and off, but I don't wanna just run a whole ability slot on the off chance I encounter a recurring spawncamper, or one just ahead so the teammate doesn't rush into danger
Literally had a match where I had to sit down and wait for the opponents to stop re-painting spawn over and over. Turf matchmaking is horrendous. Didn't enjoy that match at all.
I’ve not been spawn camped to farm kills in ranked in Splatoon, but I’ve had similar experiences in other games. It’s the one situation I wouldn’t judge someone for intentionally disconnecting mid-match. Anyway I definitely agree that spawn camping in turf war is a design problem. Locking the enemy team in their base for the full duration while someone paints is optimal if you can manage it. Some sort of mercy rule/knockout condition is needed. Maybe if a team’s paint drops below 10% of the map after the first 45 seconds it’s game over?
9:16 it can absolutely happen in solo play if the person wanting to delay the game grabs the rainmaker. I've been on that team before. I'll set up a big bubbler for em to KO the objective (rainmaker), and they just don't take the opportunity.
@@Zeroiscool456 Karma at its finest. They're probably regretting that match big time
Check the log of that game if still avabile, i would like to know as well
can we have a battle code?
Gotta love base-trading for a comeback
I feel like that player was either using NOctobrush, Krak-On Roller, or VDapples, just a hunch
I almost don't even mind the spawncamping, it's when the opposing team does that and squidbags endlessly while doing it 😫😮💨😒
Ikr I HATE IT 😤and I’m sorry to the people I’ve spawn camped I just really needed to win 😔 if I am in their base I won’t squidbag them because I know how they feel 💔
the problem is not spawncamping but making fun of your opponent. People who feelthey are better than others and treat others like stupid is disgusting. But that also happens in life so i dont know what people actully want with complaining all the time if they think this will stop any day
"take advantage of your spawn armor"
Tri Zooka:
To anyone who gets frustrated by Spawn camping: Keep painting, avoid dying, throw bombs and charge your special! Re-taking from disadvantage is a team effort, do your part by avoiding death and using your special to create space.
100 percent agree it's apart of the game
*throws beacons aggressively*
Yes! Charging special is the one advantage you actually have in spawn! Bait the campers into wasting their specials deep in you spawn, then paint over whatever is most difficult for them to reach. The more you can cover what they can't, the more you'll deprive them of resources!
"Throw bombs"
Nintendo putting sprinkler, beakons, toxic mist and point sensor on half of my favorite weapons: 😘
kinda had to do if your weapon + sub weapon is sh*t at farming special. oh, you wanted to try something different like neo sploosh? good luck farming special with your low range weapon, sub that can't paint, and heck, your special isnt even that good to deal with spawn campers

@@qwertyqwertperson how? and this was months ago, I don't know his username
You know…. The same thing happened to me and my team in BrineWater Springs about a month back. It was a hydra who was gold X rank. I reported him of course. But it was disgusting…
Edit: it was rainmaker.
But at times I feel like it’s more hard to have a good team in the a rank area.
dude i really miss splatoon 2 when i got matched with players that were on the same skill level as me.
also, i think the phrase "just improve" is a bit disingenuous due to the fact that even persons of equal or unequal skill can do nothing but wait in spawn wen ppl splat u, and make a B-line to your spawn to solo-special you.
1: The matchmaking sucks
2: The maps sucks
3: Turf war sucks
Thats about it, see ya
Moist critikal reference
Remember that if you do encounter malicious spawncampers in the wild (people who just farm kills) you can report them for unsportsmanlike play in the lobby terminal
I believe that spawncamping shouldn't be a reportable offense still, since it is just playing the game. it's on the developers for designing maps to make it so easy in the first place.
Reporting people is so weird in Splatoon 3. You have to do it in Battle Logs and even then the icon for it is suuuuper tiny. Wish you could just do it in the battle menu lol
"For playing the game"
My friend... They're not playing the game if they're not paying attention to the objective (AKA the reason why the match exist) 🙏🏼

@@KuvaChakkhurr i agree but getting so many kills that you get banned is a huge flex

It's actually really fascinating how the whole spawncamping discourse highlights all the problems this game has:
Turf war is the only purely casual mode this game has to offer?
EXACTLY ITS SO UNFAIR I LOST SO MANY TIMES BECAUSE THERE WAS ALWAYS X RANK PLAYERS ON THE. OPPOSING TEAM 😤😤😤 IM C-rank 😞😞😞😞
I know I can't control what my teammates do - but I'm lucky enough that so far none of them have been able to hold down 4 members of a team at once lol
I like to do the same as you, if I manage to get a wipeout and am still on their base, I'll usually just go back to middle despite arguably having the upper hand if I stayed. I think it's just a snarky move to stay. I think the only times I've ever spawn camped was because of a toxic player on their team (which isn't the team's fault whatsoever for those who were paired with them! It's just frustrating and I do feel bad about taking it out on the entire team) but that's mostly it.
This is the way.
Getting Spawn camped sucks so much. It's mainly happened to me in Turf/Splatfests. Personally I'm glad "Spawn Camping to be a b*tch" is a bannable offense
Exactly why can’t people just have fun NORMALLY 😞😞

THIS RIGHT HERE, I HAD A MATCH AGAINST SOMEONE WITH A GOLD X RANK BADGE IN TURF WAR 💀
THATS HAPPENED TO ME SOOOO MANY TIMES AND THEN I GET PAIRED WITH “splatainian youth 🤓” 💔💔💔💔💔
I only didnt want to do objective cause there was a backline player who definitely should have
Honestly this video has put me in an amazing mindset, thank you chase!
Yeah that's fair. Let's hope that turf war is adjusted in the next game to make it so that spawncamping isn't optimal
I agree. In Turf it's kind of both but yeah it's a problem with Turf War.
To be honest, I never heard anyone make a video about spawn camping. Kudos to you!
and dont forget to report these players ^^
Thank you so much for this video. I don’t know if you take request but I wanted to ask for this kind of video on spawn camping and I’m glad you made it. This is what so many players need to hear.
Super interesting topic, as always! Great video Chase.
This video perfectly captures how I feel about spawncamping in this game. Great video, I can think of many who would want the tip as well 😂.
0:43 I literally said the same thing at the exact same time😂
I think it kinda depends on what mode youre playing.
@Cicadacakes
I mean, losing certainly isn't fun, but I dont think just not actually trying to win and letting your opponents run around is good practice either.
*Cough cough* barnacle and umami *cough cough*
Depends on what you mean. There were maps in Splatoon 2 where the enemy team could physically reach your spawner, like Moray Towers, and if they outranged you and could kite you, you were just absolutely dead in the water. Splatoon 3 makes it impossible simply space out a stationary spawn point. But there are maps like Umami Ruins and the old design of Mahi Mahi where the spawn area is absolutely garbage for pushing back through as the defending team.
Sadly,Splatoon 1,2,and 3 isn't the only game with a problem with spawncamping;
Halo and Call of Duty, among other games,do have spawncamping.
5:04 so real
I have 2000+ wins in turf and usually have a win ratio of around 32 Wins to 18 Losses and I still get brand new players in my matches and rollers who don’t fling and only roll
Spawn campers are so annoying, especially when they squidbag right after a knockout. I never had a situation where a team ignores the objective, but how petty do you have to be to do this? Like just knock us out and finish the objective like dang 😭😭
Call of duty people can get spawn camped too. Getting killed instantly a couple seconds after respawning. It's so annoying in any shooter games
I saw that this video was posted on Saltoon so I clicked on the link, watched it, liked it & subscribed.
0:11 spawncamping is bad and all, but 91% is funny as hell
Great analysis and distinction between the ways spawn camping can occur. When in a situation like that, it’s best to chill back and use sub weapons to catch enemies off guard while also doing what you can to gather up a special or two.
The one thing I hate about spawn camping strategies in ranked is that some specials like Trizooka can ignore the spawn armor completely. Like, I'm not even on the ground yet. Specials should not be able to do that. I could understand if someone waits for the armor to disappear, then use their special, but some specials can feel downright oppressive in that moment. This is just a game problem, not a player problem. I wish Nintendo would path that out.
do you think it would fix turfwar if the turfing points actually mattered? like..the more you turf the more points you get and those points will decide the winner INSTEAD OF LITERALLY THE LAST SHOT OF THE MATCH
i love the hat in time music in the backround 😂
Hat in time? I'm using music from Mario galaxy and breath of the wild haha
@@Chase247 it sounds exacally like a hat in time 😂
I remember in Splatoon 1, spawn camping in Turf War normally happened either when someone disconnected, or certain maps made it very easy, such as Port Mackrel and Bluefin Depot.
I've suffered this before
One time one team made my whole team rage quit
LEAVING ME STRANDED JUST TO SUFFER
They always report players that spawn camp instead of winning the match as fast as possible
spawncamping to win is like dunking a basketball over the target’s head in professional game
spawncamping to be a jerk is like stepping on an infant to dunk in the child sized hoop
I think it's mainly a bad habit developed in turf war that becomes a much worse habit in ranked:
Sometimes individual players will waste a lot of time by prioritizing spawn camping without considering the state of the game.
They should add side spawns in the next game so you have two spawns
If you're playing an Aerospray in turf war and your team gets pushed back, you're getting spawn camped. That's how you beat the weapon, by denying it the ability to paint and get specials, and why it's like a bottom 20 turf war weapon. It sucks when you want to play support and get queued with three other supports, or you get a team with literally zero paint and can't physically move forward no matter what you do, but that's not the fault of the other team.
How to fix spawn camping if the enemies choose to move in to your base:
Increase Ink Consumption (Main and Sub)
Decrease Swim Speed
Increase Points for special
Has Thermal Ink effect for tracking
These nerfs reset when the enemy leaves the base and joins their teammates to help with objective.
I often rush the enemy base, and I feel guilty every single time. I only do it for winning purposes but still I feel awful
'Keep calm and blame it on the lag.'
- a wise man once said
Once my worst enemy was my own team, the 3 of them dedicated themselves to spawncamping without putting the Rainmaker on the pedestal and every time I tried to grab it they took it away, until at the end of the game I was able to grab it and put it myself.
Spawn camping is a legit strategy if your team actually are pushing objective.
I feel like Rainmaker is the mode most lokely to get spawncamped for fun in
I had a few times where people on the opposing team did this exact thing and needless to say i hated ranked ever since
It happened in rainmaker once.
Been waiting for you to speak about this goat, dear God you covered everything in a factual manner, not a single point in here is wrong
Appreciate it stormy 👌
I've been spawn camped so much recently in squid party private battles... There is literally NO good reason for that!
i feel bad whenever there's someone who it's their first game playing because it's just unfair. i go easy on them though. and i try not to spawn camp them
at least in games like Overwatch, u run the risk of abandoning the objective in order to spawn camp.
To counter spawn camping increase super jump speed and jump at right times
Spawncamping I sometimes encounter those things and mostly play for objective
First time I’ve heard Chase swearing 0:43-0:44
as someone with 1200 hours ive never experienced trouble with spawncamping personally, sometimes we have matches where our entire team is so much worse than theirs and we lose for the whole match after getting spawncamped for a while, but i blame the mode, like in rainmaker scorch gorge where its so hard to ko even if ur spawncamping because the pedestal is right at their spawn chute.
9:50 I feel so bad for the opposite team
I just want to point out that first tweet you showed? Posted by my friend, was meant to be satire, but a LOT of people are gonna think they were serious LMAOOO
I'm aware it's satire but it's a great representation of real posts that are made LMAO
@@Chase247 Fair enough LOL
And then there is me rushing the enemy spawn in tri color to die as quickly as possible to activate Qr for signal spam
I only spawn camp if I have an opportunity for my team to win, and because I wanna win, or like what chase said take more space for my team to push in
very agreeable
very demure
Imagine acting like that in Rank and still lose, bye.🖐🙄
What dulies are you using in the first couple of clips? I’ve been looking for a new pair to play lol
