That was a super fast overview
When calculating gun number, you have to turn off spin drift in your solver. And 4DOF can't do that. You have to scroll over to the wind drift column.
It is also commonly said that you want to start by setting up your ballistic solver for 500 yards and set the wind for 90 degrees blowing right to left. Even though gun number works for both directions, your solver will spit funny numbers for left to right due to spin drift.
Punch in your numbers and the app will spit out a chart set to the distance and increments of your choosing.
Just for example, I have my charts set for 1760 yards max (1 mile), in increments of 100 yards. But you could select max range of 500 yards in increments of 25 yards if you like
Hope that helps a little. Modern Day Sniper has some pretty good content for finding gun number

Great information! Another thing to note is how important a Drop Scale Factor (DSF) or Trajectory Validation can be. Once you have your data, it’s good to verify it. If at 300 yards you’re holding 2.1 Mils but your ballistic calculator said hold 1.9, input that true data into your ballistic calculator through a DSF or trajectory validation. If your muzzle velocity is accurate, the further out you validate your data, your ballistic calculator is able to “fill in the gaps” so to speak. So find what your true hold or adjustment is at the furthest distance you will be shooting at (1000 yards for example) and the ballistic calculator will be way more precise at the shorter distances. Also, if you shoot in temps of every kind, make sure to build a data chart that shows what type of muzzle velocity you’re getting at various temps! It will really make your DOPE way more accurate in different weather or temp conditions.

Really like the ballistic and long range shooting videos, not many likes or comments but this stuff is cool

Coming from Marine Corps field artillery we also calculate foot muzzle velocity variations and we actually fly weather balloons to find wind speeds and humidity at specific altitudes that our projectile may utilize for long distance shooting and when i say long distance i mean kilometers away
