Omg!!! You dont know how happy this got me lol im making an Elmo cake next week and I have to make a 3D Elmo!! Perfect timing!!! Cant wait to watch the other videos!! Thank you sooo much!!!
You are VERY WELCOME! I'm so happy you could use this info! Yes, of course you can use the same exact fur technique on cookie monster! I'm actually making oscar the grouch tomorrow using the same fur technique! :)
I'm new to fondant figurines and I'm already hooked. Your tutorials are just awesome. You are by far the best tutor on TH-cam if not the internet. Thank you so much for your dedication to teaching. You'll be seeing a lot more of me. Thank you! Thank You! :D
Thank you so much! This is gumpaste I made using pre-colored Satin Ice red fondant. I'm not sure if Satin Ice makes red gumpaste, but wouldn't doubt it if they do. :) The body and head are not too heavy. If you use gumpaste rather than fondant, you should not really have any drooping. :)
For years I could not make red fondant and I had to purchase it then one day the lady where I got it from told me its crazy and so simple you first start out with pink gel once its pink then add your red gel and wala its red really that simple so I just wanted to share this with everyone it really works as for you Laura I think you and your Husband are just so wonderfull may God bless you guys and thanks for all the wealth of info you share with us!!
Thank you! You can use fondant but you will have a very tough time having it holds its structure. Fondant is not stiff enough. Try gumpaste for your figure modeling. :)
Laura, your tutorial was incredible. It was invaluable to me in creating my first gum paste figure! My sons mouths fell open when they saw their Elmo birthday cake! Thanks and God bless you.
Thank you so much! Your so detailed in explaining it. I didn't have time to order from you as my sons bday is 2 days away. First time ever working with fondont my elmo came out just perfect!! I made him with his hands up and it came out just perfect! Thank you!!!
Hello! I just subscribed about an hour ago. I don't know how I didn't run across your videos sooner. So far, I am loving the tutorials. Your video on How to Make Elmo was truly awesome!!!! I have been a cake artist for a few years now, and I always see new and old things that I had no idea how to do. So thank you from Southern Sassy Sweets from Lovelady, Texas!!!! I am definitely a fan of yours!!!! Denise Sexton
So glad you found me! Glad you're enjoying the tutorials! Would love for you to join us on Facebook as we offer A LOT more help there than what you see her on TH-cam. :) You can find the link in the description box underneath the video. Thank you! :)
HEY MELISSA! LOL! Was your caps button stuck? LOL! J/K. No my hands never get sticky because I use shortening while working on figures. You should try it. The mat I use is called a SILPAT. You can find them in a million stores. I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond. :)
Thank you so much! Believe it or not, the mickey and minnie toppers are the ones I try to avoid. LOL. Don't like doing them. Very very difficult. LOL. :)
Thank you , thank you , thank you !!! Love the video exactly what i needed for this week cake . Do you think i can use your technique to make the fur for cookie monster too?
how do you prevent it from drooping down since there will be some weight with elmo's body and head. Do you wait under the body is dry first then place the head on? Thank you!!
I watched your 8 part video when you made the baby elephant so impressed i am now going to try this will be my very first attempt. so I have a couple of questions please. All the tools and base can they be susituted with other items I have all the wilton tools but no mat and we in england would have to use a plastic stick not wood is that ok? do you sell a baby elephant so i could model from? the work board for rolling gum paste is that specially for gum paste a lot of questions so sorry but want to have a go at making a Baby E thankyou for your inspiring creation Laura a new fan Georga :))
HEY LAURA, COUPLE QUESTIONS, DO U GET UR FINGERS AND HANDS STICKY WHEN WORKING ON A FIGURINE? IVE WORKED WITH GUMPASTE A FEW TIMES NEFORE AND FIND THEY MY HANDS GET SUER STICKY SO I HAVE TO KEEP WASHING M HANDS...ALSO, WHAT KIND OF NON STICK MAT DO U USE BECAUSE IVE ALSO HAD A ROUGH TIME FINDING ONE..
The amount of time cake toppers last depends on how well they are preserved. Keeping them in a cool and dry environment free from humidity and out of bright light (especially direct sunlight) will make them last for several months, sometimes a year or two. We usually make our toppers at least 2 weeks before they are placed on a cake. Hope that helps!
No thank you for showing us your talent:) I try to do Elmo this afternoon a bit smaller but I couldn't get the wrinkles out! I was so mad you made it look so easy lol do you have any tip for wrinkles in fondant? I could only do cutouts or flowers I'm trying to lean how sculpt like you but it hard so please give some tips for wrinkles thank you!
That's AWESOME Hana! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me about your wonderful cake! That's so great to hear! Good for you! :)

Gel food coloring. This red gumpaste however, as I mentioned in the video, is pre-colored.
No need to refrigerate. Just keep in a cool and dry environment. You can place it in a sealed container if you wish.
That's fantastic! I'm so happy I did it when I did then! Haha! What a coincidence! That's so great! Have fun making your Elmo! :)
Yes we do. :) Thank you! :)
I want to thank you for this awesome tutorial. Your instruction was perfect!!!! Thank you again!!!
I appreciate that Cathy! Thank you so much! :)

Thank you , thank you , thank you !!! Love the video exactly what i needed for this week cake . Do you think i can use your technique to make the fur for cookie monster too?
Your work is amazing. Question. Is this fondant or gumpaste or 50/50? Not sure if Satin ice has colored gumpaste?
Thank you so much! :)
Satin Ice only sells white gumpaste, do you make your own gumpaste from red fondant? Thanks!! I love all of your videos... amazing talent.
I love your videos. But I have a question. Did u mix the gum paste with fondont or is it just just gum paste?
how do you prevent it from drooping down since there will be some weight with elmo's body and head. Do you wait under the body is dry first then place the head on? Thank you!!
Hi nice tutorial, I'm not sure if Elmo is just gumpaste or a combination of gumpaste and satin ice fondant if so what is the ratio would be helpful:)
How do you color your gum paste?
Amazing video I used it to help make my clay elmo, thx so much for sharing! Can you make a Mickey or Minnie pls!!!
great video can you use fondant keep it up

could you tell me were you get the satin ice red gum paste I cant find it online
We don't use Satin Ice gumpaste. We make it ourselves mixing Satin Ice fondant with tylose. :)

Hi Laura, can I use butter instead of shortening? Thanks!
HI Zurlati! I wouldn't recommend it. :)
Awesome video Laura:) biggest fan!!!
Thank you Jessica! :)
How long do these last for? How far in advance can you make it?

Can you give me some tips on how to store a cake topper
Hi Laura if anyone really needs to know how much your actually using you can weight each piece on a scale. ;-)
+Alicia Perez That'd be pretty tough to do since it was made 3 years ago. :)
