    Just got a Buick envista a couple months ago. I am a 56 y.o. woman and it is my first new car. After years of frugality, I have a couple nickels to rub together and am starting to spend them. It is in the copper ice metallic and I splurged and got it packed. Love it! I even have guys stopping me in parking lots to tell me they think it is cool. I look around to find out who they are talking to, but wait, you're talking to me? Paid 33 all in. Couldn't be happier. As to those who say it is underpowered, so far I have not needed to engage in any John Wick style evasions from the bad guys, so I am good.

    Thanks for the great quick look, Tom!
    The ‘Wildcat’ front look is restrained enough to be good, not polarizing.
    For Envista vs Trax, Envista’s key attribute is that fastback look that leans it toward sedan in appearance. I like it.
    For value though, there’s likely a Trax configuration that delivers most of the Envista’s niceties and stays $3K - $4K more affordable. And for many, that difference makes getting a new drive possible!!
    Thank you for your thoughtful and thorough reviews; greatly appreciated!

      A Voltec drive train - along with a small e-axle in the rear for AWD with a starting price of $35K would have been doable - too bad GM retired the Voltec drivetrain - it would need a redesigned floor pan to accommodate the battery pack and would probably lose space for the spare tire.

    Just bought the 2025 Envista top trim Avenir today! Black with beautiful pebble gray interior. My granddaughter bought the black with black rims. I’ve been shopping for over 8 months for a new car. Couldn’t find anything I liked without a dumb looking tablet screen and everything was black/red/ or orange interior! Wanted a more sophisticated interior. The taupe is so beautiful with lots of stitching. So far I’m loving it. Lexus IS didn’t even have wireless Apple car play or a wireless phone charger. This is fun to drive and looks more expensive than what I paid at $30,000 OTD. Highly recommend

    I saw a Facebook post guy who said his engine went at 4500 K. A lady said it's been nothing but problems for 9 months. The dealer can't fix the problem due to not having parts available. I was considering the Envista until i read the comments about the engine being 3 cylinders. Someone complained about A/C. I tend to keep my cars for 10 plus years. I average less than 10K miles per year. The Envista is a beauty. I also read something about it having a wet timing belt $$$$$

      I joined a Facebook group for Envista owners to see how they're holding up. Everything you say is true. There have been a handful of engine failures. The most common issues seem to be body trim falling off the exterior, power windows not working, glitches with the digital instrumentation, AC failure, and interior squeaks/rattles. I'm in groups for other comparable vehicles and although every vehicle has it's issues, the Envista/Trax by far are having the most problems. A case of you get what you pay for.

    Nice vid. I’ve been getting 40mpg freeway average, so I feel they severely underrated the fuel economy.
    So far so good, but hate the lack of the rear center armrest/cupholders. Gonna have to find an aftermarket front seatback solution.
    The power is more than adequate and I feel the exhaust note under full throttle is actually much nicer than the old 1.4L Turbo. The thing people forget about this and Trax is that they are lightweights at only 3100lbs. They get up and move all things considered.
    These are moving pretty quick too. I had vehicles sold out from under me a few times before I was able to close on mine.

    It looks great and is priced well. The only negative may be a questionable powertrain (in terms of long term reliability), but tiny boosted engines seem to be the norm for most vehicles now. Personally, I'd prefer a hybrid option instead of a turbo since they are more reliable and improve fuel economy all while giving a bit of a boost to power. That said, if you are in the market for an affordable vehicle, this is likely a pretty solid offering.

    • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Small three cylinder boosted engines are the future, most brands are switching to this. But this is the cheap bad version of this engine, the 1.3T is better in every way, more efficient AND more power. They really cut corners. Hopefully the refresh of this at least gets the 1.3T and an infotainment that is larger and fills out all the huge bezel.

    For one year I sold Cadillacs and Buick's. Buicks were much quieter than their Cadillac counterpart and shared much of the same drive train and underpinnings. The LaCrosse was a very underrated sedan. Despite of all G.M.s efforts, Buick could never shed the "grandpa" image which was too bad as Buick routinely offered some of the better incentives in the G.M. portfolio. The Envista looks like a low priced contender and if it had any badge on it besides Buick, it would likely sell in modest numbers. The only reason why G.M. hasn't killed off Buick is that it is considered a premium brand---in China, where over one million units are sold annually vs. around 200,000 in the U.S.

    I have mixed memories of my family's '95 LeSabre. Like the Envista, it was cheapish on the materials, neglectful for back seaters, but big trunk , roomy, and soft ride. The 3.8 V6 was surprisingly peppy...the new car's engine is literally and figuratively half of what it once was. This car seems like it's an upscale commuter/decompression chamber. However it doesn't have the overall quality and personality of the Mazda, nor the rear window wiper. It's a nice departure from the regular CUV/SUV design.

    Hey Tom, what are your thoughts on the engine idle stop-start system? Do you think it isn't good for the engine? Many people believe it should be shut off, every time you turn the vehicle on. But if the engine isn't running, there's no wear and tear.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm on the fence, depends on the refinement. The "starter" on these systems is beefed up, I don't see an issue with wear on that they way some people claim. For me it's about the operation, when some restart, it's very noticeable. Others hardly at all. I do enjoy the quiet while I'm waiting at the stoplight. Also it does seem silly to have an engine running when the car is just sitting there for a minute doing nothing.

    I'm in the older Buick demographic and have a 1989 Electra Park Avenue just for fun. An 1989 Electra can hit 0-60 in 11.4 seconds, where the Envista hits that in 9.4 seconds. A well equipped 1989 Electra stickered for about $20,000, which translates roughly to $48,000 in 2023 -- or about 40% more than the top of the line Envista Avenir. Put another way, a new base Envista, which retails for $24k, would have to sell for $15K if it were to match the relative entry price of a base 1989 Electra. Its power hatchback is arguably more relevant than the Electra's trunk lid pull-down ever could have been -- not to mention the Envista's safety kit and features -- airbags, thoroughly vetted body structure, anti-lock brakes, digital screens, greater cargo capacity (even with the seat up). Any sober comparison seems cruel and pointless... in just about every measure the Envista is the better car.

    Buick is actually the oldest existing US car company (not only in the US, but in the world). Buick is the company from which GM evolved - it's founder was born in Scotland and the brand has a decent racing history as well. They were one of the first companies to have their motors used in mid-engine La Mans cars (predating Porsche, Ford and Ferrari). The 80's and 90's didn't do the brand any favors, but the new styling (thanks to foreign markets) is headed in the right direction. Buick has never capitalized on its history - and they really should. Full disclosure - Buick Regal TourX owner here :) ... and "Ja ja", I know it's built in Germany.

      @@DrivenCarReviews We got the Essence in black with tinted windows. After 40,000 miles ... only one gripe with the car, and one bigger gripe with the dealer. The TourX was GREAT on a recent cross-country trip. Super quiet, comfortable and efficient (we averaged over 30mpg with 5 people and a wayback full of luggage), yet zippy around traffic. My nephew got his first speeding ticket in Nebraska ... he let his attention lapse and passed a state trooper doing over 90 (this is still the red-needle version that's limited at over 150mph). For the rest of his life, he can always say he got his first speeding ticket driving his aunt's Buick :D I am considering putting some tasteful aftermarket Ventiports on the fender - if I can find any that aren't too gaudy. For me I will wait a few years to see if this engine can stand the test of time.
