Thanks Tommy for the guide. I would have been too nervous to start cutting into the dash of my 19 M4 CS but it worked great following your directions. I did this about a year ago at night in my driveway in under an hour. Used screen from a 2017 X5. One of the best mods you can do to a F8X

I think it’s hard for the camera to actually capture how big the difference is in size between the new and old screen but it’s big

Thank you so much, you are litterally the only one that helped me out installing my 8.8 screen touch on my bmw 1 series. It's the same changing the size on bimmercode and the resolution. Keep up with those videos, I hope that somebody can explain me how to enable apple car play now but the rest is just perfect.
Enabling Apple car play requires a software update :(

Thanks for the amazing explanation, just did it on my M3, can't say it was easy with the leather dash but thanks to your video I succeeded. Had to do the Feature Installer for full screen car play because the headunit is EVO_Q.
If others have the leather dash, please note that you will need to trim the plastic completely on the edges down to the chrome part.

Great video, as always! Love your channel. I know this is just a screen upgrade, but with having to also upgrade the software have you noticed anything lost with vehicle data, like service intervals or maintenance data that you had before and doesn't transfer over?
Nope not at all. And software wasn’t updated. It was lost programming the new resolution. Think of it as plugging a bigger monitor to your old computer.

I've had bad experiences with ebay screens and just went with the one from bimmertech for my f80. No complaints so far. You don't gain a touch screen as their fitting is just a box in between the car and the OEM screen.
I’m good 2 for 2 with eBay screens so far

Good video mate very thorough I completely understand the need for this why would you want to upgrade the whole car just for an updated media experience. Having done a little research I understand my f30 ID4 would need a new display and processor is there any other hardware needed?
Just those Two things are what you would need. But it gets pricey at that point

Pretty sure as long as your car has WiFi you can screen mirror your phone and with that you can stream Netflix
@@lasse_bwld you can only screen mirror if you have an old android phone because the new android phones don’t use the same technology to screen mirror like I can take an old Samsung that has Mass and stream that way directly to my car but that doesn’t work with Apple or any of the new android phones

Hey there, first off this was a great vid. I always enjoy d i y videos specially when you show how easy you can get things done. Question; i have a 2017 428i xdrive, do I have to make the same modifications as you had to for your M, or can I get a plug 'n play version of this screen?
You would need the same modifications. None of these screens are plug and play

Wow, great mod! Every time I watch one of your videos, I always end up adding mods to my list of things to save up for/buy. I've always thought the screen real estate of my F series was enough, but now I want to upgrade. For the touchscreen feature, is it capable of doing pinch to zoom?
It does pinch to zoom very well on maps !

This is a great video. It would also help if you could post a written DIY as well, and list the model and specs for the screen. Also, if your car is not equipped from factory for touch and is f3x model, does the OBD coding the way to activate it so that apple CarPlay can be purchased and used? Seems bmw offers CarPlay after initial sale but only if car shows compatibility. Thanks

Looks stunning!!! You should sale them already retrofitted for the fxx models. You have the template. Im sure there is a market! People are always looking for the easy way out for an upgrade such as myself. Say....800$ for the retrofitted unit, leaving a 200$ profit margin for yourself. Im sold and would be your first customer Tommy.🤔😀👍🏼
Good idea. But are you comfortable modifying your own car too? This won’t fit without modifying your car a bit

Hi there! Great video, very thorough. One question, I have been seeing people having to change the processing unit as well as the screen in order to get car play. Is this because the unit before 2016 is not evo? And how do I see if I have an evo unit since my F82 M4 is March 2016? Thanks
That’s correct. For nbt evo you need the whole processing unit.

This is awesome! Pretty easy install as well. Just don't think 600 bucks is worth it for a few inchs. I would love to see a android touch screen come out one day. That's reasonable priced.
The sharper resolution makes it worth it. Makes the car feel a lot newer

Great video, pretty helpful! Just had a quick question: My 2016 F80 is not on iDrive 5.0, so I don't get Apply CarPlay (separate mod needed for that to work). I know you said this is just a 5.0 "skin", so if I install this screen, would there be a way to get Apple Carplay to work with it/ is it preloaded with this screen? Thanks for your help!
You’d have to do a full retrofit with antennas etc.

Yes they do! Connections in the back are the same. Fitting them into the dash is a different story though

My 2020 M4 has a touch screen as standard, the only problem is the screen is so far away you have to lean forward to actually reach it. The newer G series cars have it much closer.

Expert mode is specific to what you’re trying to do so it is hard to kind of post it all
Great video, thanks a lot, this helps much! Does this display need an DC/DC converter in the APIX2 connection or is it supported without that from the HU? So softstart (restart the car below 10-15 minutes) is no problem with black display?
This is plug and play. What you’re referring to relates to 2015 and older

Good video. Very informative. But if you can afford a replacement screen I think you can afford a $20 Dremel. BMW's are notorious for needing special tools. Would like to find a direct fit screen.
It wasn’t about the cost. I do have a dremel. It was easier for this purpose and less dust.
What would the difference be for a 2014 320i xDrive that has already the 8.8" Screen? If any difference at all. Great video too by the way! very straight forwards.
Difference is size. 10’inch is bigger than 8. And higher resolution too

There is, $225 MMI you can install in 30 mins. Aftermarket, but works!

@@coreyteal9008 Yes its a piggy back so you keep all OEM. YOu hold down the Menu or 8 button and it will switch over to the new Media Box with the extra features. It will also use your steering wheel controls and switch to reverse camera automatically, easy and cheap upgrade for some comforts.

Hey man so I have a 2019 M4 CS which already has a touch screen but obviously the smaller size. I already have the new screen to upgrade but when I code the new screen I should probably skip the touch screen code right? Since my OEM screen is already touch?
You will still need to adjust the resolution
1 why didn’t you cut the dash and fit the display as it comes?
2 working only on id-5 nbt evo and up, or is it compatible with id4 also?

Cutting the dash is permanent. This is fully reversible.
Nbt is a slightly different screen design but install procedure is the same

This works just get an NBt and not nbt evo. 2014-2016 x6 part would work

Could you please link us the screen for the PRE LCI Models (e.g. 2014) and tell us some differences here? Is it the same functionality or?
Just look for nbt screen x5 on eBay. Should be from 2014-2016 and say NBt
