That is the first thing I thought, however the distances are surely too big for it. And every day that passes it gives them more time to prepare for such move.
Are there any strategic value to the incursion? What's the military objective? There are no Russian army units to destroy nor any important production facilities in that region. This feels like a political, morale boosting exercise by the Ukrainian government after months of being on the backfoot since the failed summer counter offensive. If Russia manages a proper response, all these Ukrainian units risk being encircled and cut off.
