  • This Film on Lesotho introduces the viewer to the Mountain kingdom of Lesotho. I explored and travelled the southern part of Lesotho to capture with photos and do some fly fishing to test the waters of Lesotho. Lesotho must be the heartbeat of Southern Africa. This film is about my exploration of the southern side of Lesotho with cameras. It introduces the viewer to the uniqueness of Lesotho's people, history, culture and landscapes despite being landlocked by South Africa.

    This is literally the only video about Lesotho that really captures the country as it is, out of all the videos I've watched. The way the narrator narrates is informed and respectful. You can relate to it as a Mosotho living in Lesotho. Plus local music was used in the production of the video.😃 Good work!

      Theresa thank you for watching. As these productions are self sponsored they are all done with love and are honest in other words I was not paid to do or say anything but from the heart so appreciation from The people is as heart warming as I find the people in Lesotho. I want to return soon with a follow up and some drone footage and improve the production but would love the Tourism dep or Gov to assist with easy access to locations. Hope they get to see the video. Please share widely I would love Lesotho to get the milage it deserves from a tourism point of view

    Before the Dutch invaded Basotho Land in now present day “Free State”, Basotho used to run nationwide commercial farming and traded maize with the Cape Colony and neighboring Nguni tribes. Moshoeshoe had enough food that could sustain Basotho people for atleast 8-10years. When the Boers took the Fertile Basotho Land that was a source of trade for them it was a hard pill to swallow. That is why the wars between Basotho and Voortrekkers lasted for over half a century. Let’s hope a consensus will be reached between the Boers and Basotho. With a history of conflict and hatred hopefully they find one another and share the land successfully.

    • @joelategan
      @joelategan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe. But lets tale your argument . Why dont you blame The Zulu kings that you fled from to avoid being killed in Zululand. Whos land was it or Who lived in Lesotho before the difaquane period?
      In Free State (the Thaba Nchu area I agree was Moshoeshoe s land.
      I wont agree with the mationwide commercial farming. There never was any farming, even today by any tribes that was any commercial farming. I have nowhere read that in ay historic archives. As a matter of fact commercial farming has never been successful til today in the whole of africa until the boers showed how it can be done.
      Why even today no commercial farming succeeds ? Where did they get maize that is south american crop? If they were so good certainly they would have been sustainable?

      @@joelategan Perhaps you should’ve done more research before commenting. You should stop watching TH-cam videos and go to libraries and read real documented history. If you are based in Cape Town go to the library in UCT and go to the Southern African history isle and do some digging.
      The earliest evidence of Basotho in Basotho Land has been recorded to be in the 5th century through the San rock art. That’s the first time paintings of a people with shields and iron weaponry&agricultural tools and livestock were recorded. That was the arrival of Basotho in the mountains of Basotho territory.
      So to answer your question, before Lifaqane there were Basotho Chiefdoms all over modern day Lesotho, Free State and Gauteng. There were never Basotho in the East of the Drakensberg. It is only Nguni tribes who occupied coastal territories. Sotho-Tswana people were concentrated in the center of South Africa integrated with the Sans. The people who ran away from KZN into Lesotho were other Nguni Tribes who knew of another great kingdom in the mountains. So they fled KZN and seek protection against Shaka Zulu from King Moshoeshoe in the Mountains. They were accepted into the kingdom. It wasn’t a peaceful process though. When they fled they came in war trying to occupy new territory but Moshoeshoe’s army defeated them together with othe regiments of King Shaka and integrated them into his Kingdom by giving them homes and livestock to start a new life. That’s how the kingdom expanded in a short span of time by accepting many Nguni refugees.

    • @shisuiuchiha480
      @shisuiuchiha480 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@joelategan If you didn’t know let me educate you a bit. The first Europeans to settle Basotho territory before the Afrikaners set foot in the Free State were French Missionaries spreading Christianity. They were stationed in Lesotho in 1833. Luckily they got there before the Boers did and therefore they documented all history thereafter between Basotho and the Boers without Bias. They wrote everything as they were witnessing it rolling out. And it was later translated from French to English in the early 1900s.
      The French brought education, maize and many other foreign concepts to the Basotho people. The Basotho were the first South Africans to receive formal education and that is why they could negotiate their independence in the late 1800s whilst the whole of South Africa was colonized. It is the French settlers who advised them on how to prevent Western Imperialism. By the late 1830s Basotho under King Moshoeshoe had miles and miles of maize farms all over the Free State. In fact when the first set of Afrikaners were arriving in Free State they were fed by Basotho. They traded weapons and other goods for food from Basotho. It is not until after a few years that more and more Afrikaners were flooding into the area and then they planned to take over the land. And they actually suffered defeat at the hands of Basotho warriors countless times until they were finally successful. Before the Afrikaners came to the Free State it is the Koranas(Griquas) who came to invade the Free State first as they were losing their land to the Afrikaners who were moving from the Cape and closer and closer to Basotho territories. So by the time the Afrikaners arrived Basotho already had guns and horses that they acquired from the battles won against thousands of Korannas who were fleeing the Afrikaner Voortrekkers. And Basotho already had other guns, horses and donkeys that they had acquired from trade in the Cape Colony.
      If you want to learn about Basothos commercial farming across Southern Africa you should read Encyclopedia Britannica Vol.11. The British have documented who was trading food to them in the Cape Colony.

    • @shisuiuchiha480
      @shisuiuchiha480 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@joelategan That’s the point. Basothos maize farms were in modern day Free State where you seeing the maize farming thrive now. Have you ever been to Lesotho? It’s literally on the Drakensberg Mountains. How can you start commercial farming on the Drakensberg? Lesotho is majority Rocky Mountains. The land is not really arable although there is small scale farming but it’s difficult to sustain. The fertile land they had they lost to the Boers. The only really fertile land in Lesotho where people can even grow fruits is the small portion that borders the Free State in the North of Lesotho.
      Btw when I refer to Basotho territory I’m mainly referring to the Free State. Lesotho became a nation because of the push back the Basotho suffered in the hands of the Boers. As they began losing more and more territory they sought refuge in the mountains and from there they were much more difficult to conquer. As you know such landscapes is where great empires fall. Look at Afghanistan it couldn’t be conquered. Ethiopia as well is very mountainous and so never got colonized because it was easy for them to defend themselves against foreign invaders. Switzerland cant be conquered as well for that very same reason. Apparently the Nazi couldn’t invade Switzerland because they knew the country is impenetrable due to its landscapes.
      And thanks for acknowledging their prowess in mountain warfare. Alotta people don’t realise that that is the reason Shakas kingdom couldn’t expand Westwards beyond the Drakensberg. They could only expand Southwards and to the North because they couldn’t penetrate Moshoeshoe’s army thanks to the landscape that they mastered.

I have recently enquired as to wether they still existed and wanted to make contact with them again and Malealea management that got them to perform for tourists at the lodge stated that they would be different persons but I think they will start performing again after covid restrictions.

    Amazing work Joe!! I'm actually wondering, it feels to me like this video was shot some time ago because that scene of the chief in yellow blanket on a horse over the valley, I have been using its photo so many time not knowing who took it, so now seeing this video, it is clearly you. so my question is, why is the video only coming up now?

      Thanks for watching Lefu. Your observations are spot on. Its a good question. I actually went to Lesotho a couple of times to make a TV program for mnet and the Lesotho Highlands commission I think in 2007 and 2008. Then things took another turn and I protected the footage until now when I have time to build up my TH-cam channel and started editing recently. I took a year traveling and filming not that I have stopped since. I wanted to go back with my drones and fresh 4k footage but basically forgot about it.
      I decided two months to roll it out rather and return to Lesotho to do a follow up film so I want to get in touch with someone in Tourism or the likes to set me up with the schedule.
      Please share it . I really would like South Africans to travel to Lesotho rather neighboring countries or traveling overseas. Blessings

    15 The kingdom of Heaven is made like a walk to Heaven with a man. There was a group dressed in white far in front of the man and another disordered group far behind him. And all of them were moving forward on a path like a bridge bordered by two ditches. And a multitude at the head of the front group was before the gate of Heavens. And from the group behind, one person jumped into the ditch and crossed it while another person passed through the man like a door and joined the front group in the clearing. The man in the vision seemed to be me. And I was astonished that the first person who crossed the ditch was the wife of a pastor.

    17 Dreams must not be ignored, but dreams must not be totally trusted. There are false dreams and false visions. So you must not take all your dreams as revelations from God. And if your actions are not good and you ask God for a revelation, God can allow Satan to answer you as in 1 Kings 22. But when I listened to your dreams, almost all of them were from God for the purpose of delivering and purifying you, even the ones you thought were nightmares. I did not see any witchcraft or divination. And a dream that repeats itself is often a message from God.

    12 And if God saves a Catholic, a Protestant, an evangelical, a Branhamist or one member of those missions and ministries, God must remove hell and everyone will go to the Paradise, even Satan. [Ed: The congregation says, “Amen!”]. How can someone reject the living prophet of his time and go to the Paradise? How can someone be saved from the Flood while he has rejected Noah? When the Lord Jesus Christ was on earth, how could someone reject Him and be saved? The whole earth is in the abyss because of these churches.

I had spent five days and five nights sitting on a chair in the premises of the general intelligence of Ivory Coast. I had spent two days and two nights in the basement of the police headquarters of Abidjan and three months at the MACA, the largest prison of Abidjan. As the prophets of the Bible and my Lord Jesus-Christ were treated, so was I treated. And he that has ears to hear, let him hear. [Kc.125v3] [Kc.127v19]

    11 The black race appeared in Egypt after the Jews came out of Egypt and spread over the earth with deportations. The blacks carried the gods of Egypt with them all over the world, so that may come upon them the curse of Noah on Ham which said, You Ham, your posterity shall be a slave of slaves to your brethren. And Moses imputed that to Canaan as the tithe of Abraham was imputed to Levi, the tithe of Abraham to Melchisedec. And Ham begot Cush, Mizraim, and Phut who are Ethiopia, Egypt and Libya. And all black Africans are slaves that escaped from these countries. And in 2017, the Libyans were able to capture a few of them and resell them, and black Africans were outraged; and yet it was the right of those Libyans. You see? If you are a black man outside Ethiopia, Egypt and Libya, know that you are a fugitive slave, on the run. And until you die, you will be in anointing of demons like the Canaanites. You will always be an adventurer and migrant and you will serve the white man, you will speak his language and you will wear second-hand clothes and you will be in used devices and used cars,, for your home is the dumping ground of the white man. Just as the tribes of Israel shared Canaan between themselves in Joshua 14, in the same way, Europe shared Africa between themselves in 1885 at the Berlin conference. Amen. [Kc.134v6]
    12 All men are equal before God, but the human races are not equal. The black skin is not the effect of the sun but the effect of the curse of Ham and his posterity. The black race is the race of slavery and servitude. And the wise and honoured slave is the slave who can whip his father and his mother and his brothers for his master.

    8 What can the book of a Baptist pastor bring me if it is not to be a good Baptist! When the reading of the Bible was forbidden by Pope Innocent III, which purpose did Satan want to reach? It is the same purpose he has reached today by another means, in order to subject people to his will. While leaving the Bible in their hands, he has given them an infinite number of interpretations. A Baptist way, a Pentecostal way, a Jehovah’s Witness, Adventist, Nazarene, Anabaptist way, … reaching exactly and completely the same purpose.

    2 Let Satan and his children have pastoral schools, Bible institutes and the Internet, me and my house will stay with the prophetic revelation. [Ed: The congregation says: "Amen!"]. And after pastoral school, seminaries and theological degrees, when those hypocrites, sons of the devil stand in the pulpit, they say: "O God may I decrease and you speak through me." You see? It's a confusion! If you know that you can decrease for God to speak through you, so what did you go and look for in pastoral schools?
