- In this episode we go along on a weekly bar crawl to Ban Chang put on by a local bar in Pattaya. The trip begins on Soi Honey and takes us about an hour away to the town of Ban Chang where we disembark, explore the area by foot, enjoy a meal and chat with the locals. Enjoy the Ride!

This was my home for three years! Bars aside, it's a beautiful place to live.
Ban Chang is what Soi 6 used to be.
I recommend taking that hotel right next to the strip. It's annoying to be time restricted. Just sleep a day there and go back the next morning.
Hello another place i had heard about but still not managed to go to yet, looks good as I don't drink much these days bar crawls don't seem so exciting, I know I could have soft drinks. Thanks again for posting.

The meatloaf and the chicken fried steak are fantastic there. Every time I visit Pattaya I make a side trip to Ban Chang. One Bar and MC Bar (ran by Charlie) are two of the favorites. Kitty Beaver is excellent food. Side note: almost everyone goes there with a bus group. I've gone with 3 different bus organizing groups that typically go once a week. It's a nice change of pace. Occasionally I'll miss the bus on purpose and stay overnight. The place gets crazy after 9pm. The few rules that are followed in Pattaya are completely out the window in Ban Chang after 9pm. Small selection so really only a day drip or the occasional 2 day trip is warranted. There is one club in the town I've been invited to a few times but have never gone as there is plenty to do on the singular street of bars. Motorcycle clubs are also frequenters of this town and seem to mostly hang out in One Bar (ran by Jason)

Ban Chang looks very sympathetic, nice to go out for 1/2 a day. Nice ladies I must say 💋 The Runway is close to my hotel (I booked again in Sawasdee Sabai, was even cheaper then last time. Gives me a relax feeling to know where I am going and off course nice to see the people there again. March I will be there 😁) and I keep this in mind. It's like going to Ko Lan for a daytrip. Wow, you hit the lottery! That is really Thai. Congratulation! 👌 Thanks again for this vlog who gives people ideas to do something else for a small price.
I was not stationed in the area but have used the airport to go to Udon Thani. My first visit to Ban Chang was in 86 when the highway was 2 lanes. For the US Air Force vets that use airport, it is very similar in appearance to SAC bases in the states like Beale, March, and Westover.

Good video..did not even know that existed as for a kinda fun destination....something new to explore in my book. You should have a monthly meet up at a different restaurant around the Pattaya, Ban Saen area and do a review of the restaurant and possibly the surrounding area...their are so many different restaurants that cater to all different customers...and so many are really good. The Pattaya Hilton's Buffet could be one, for example. I would love to join you as would other subscribers I would think...would be a fun social event once every few months, etc. Anyway, really enjoy your videos.

Been there... many years ago. I met my late wife Dougnate at the airport when I was there in the military. Seeing you get around on your bike brings back so many memories. Nate was from the north Nakhom Phanom and I wanted to just share this seeing you ride around, now keep in mind this was 30 almost 40 years ago lol. I have rode motorcycles all my life, still ride and own a Harley. We went to Nakhom Phanom to get married at her home. While there her father wanted to show me the family rice farm. So we all loaded up on scooters, now these were not fancy... and off we went, mostly dirt roads. On the way back to the house. We passed a water buffalo herder... and suddenly a young calf started to crowd me, with Nate on the back and as can be expected I lost and ran out of road and down we went. She was on the ground in front of me... I was suddenly surrounded by her whole family and just a couple of days from our wedding day... I knew very little Thai at the time and of course everyone was talking at once... I had no idea what to think other than was she ok, and it was 2 minutes of crazy... all was good couple of bruises and my future father in law not happy with the water buffalo herder.. a few Thai words exchanged.. no damage to the scooter.. later on the sweet wine came out and it was the story of the night and a few laughs... I swore then no more motorbike riding in Thailand one close call was enough... and that was in the country.. traffic was ridiculous back then... I haven't shared that story in years. But seeing the traffic and Rayeon,and Utapao, and that area and the scooters.. memories were good thank you.

Been there a few times...I found it better when I stayed there overnight,you feel less rushed and are not keeping an eye on the clock.

Yeah, I did this trip when Al used to run it. Thought it would have been better if the trip got there at around 4 and left around 9, instead of 2 till 7

Thanks for the trip down memory lane - lived in Ban Chang in the late 90’s while working in Map ta Put. Much more relaxed than Pattaya
I did go up to Chang Mai and rent a scooter to ride over the mountains to Mai Hong Song and that was really interesting . Also there is a short cut to Ban Chang from Pattaya you can do that makes it a very short and pleasant journey . You head for the winery with the Buddha on the side of the mountain . Amazing place years ago and I still remember chickens wondering around in Soi Buckhow and from the Dusit hotel to the Sanctuary of Truth nothing in between just beach and scrub . Haven't been there for years now but golden memories... 😊
Do a thing on Rayong and the expats.. where they live and how much they pay and the quality of life in the area. That would be awesome and informative.
Rayong? hahahahahaha. NO expats live there unless they work for a foreign company. Rayong is 100% Thais and a 100% waste land.
I have a house about 15 km east of Rayong along a 13 km long beach. This is mostly a Thai area. It gets invaded by Thais during the weekends and empty during the weekdays. That also have the consequence that there are nearly no public transportation like taxi etc. because the Thais comes by own cars. So if you don't haver a car, or rent a motorbike, you don't get anywhere. You really need transportation to get to/from shops and restaurants. My oppinion is that east of Rayong is not so well siuted for foreign tourists or expats without a car.
William Myers thanks for the good reply. I’m not a young guy or an old guy yet. I am married to a Thai girl for 10 years in America. We are looking for a nice place to spend extended time where we have a little bit of western life style while enjoying the benefits of Thailand.

Travelled all round Thailand and never been here, will pay a visit on my next trip. Got to say though some of those food prices are a bit steep for an Aussie only getting 19 baht for the dollar......near on $15 for a club sandwich! Good vlog and thanks for all the info.
Navy P-3's and USAF have been using U-Taphao for years. Am surprised anybody in Pattaya knew about Ban Chang. lol

Ban Chang was a place that popped up when I was looking for a place in Rayong, good to see there's some stuff to do there. Hey if there's no salsa, I use Nam Jim seafood, great with tortilla chips,.. good overall sauce.

Been there many times... makes a nice change from pattaya. Sunday is the best day as there is a golf course nearby. I have a few videos of banchang on my channel.
I was at Utapao TDY in 1972-1972 and in Banchang which was 2 miles from Utapao. I was Bruce Lee's first big The Big Boss in the tiny 100 seat. wooden theater. Movie was 10 baht.
Of course, you have to put the salsa on your dish!!
PS, forget the van, you missed the best part of BC. You can make a very nice rural ride of it.

Just posted..might be kind of tough if 20 people all of a sudden show up at a restaurant...so that may be a no for a group review..but certainly would like to see more restaurants reviewed as their is such a variety of really good spots....
This would make a great 2 day trip< at 600 baht not a bad deal and maybe more attractive for custom.

How is Banchang now? Is the Soi Bar open?
When I go to a restaurant, I do the "Big Mac Index" thing, but in Thailand, I use chicken fried rice. I see it's probably 80 Baht where you ate. A bit pricey.

Sanctuary of truth I have mixed feelings, yes I gave been and I really enjoyed it. It is spectacular, but what puts me off is the waste of all the forests to provide the Teak to keep rebuilding. For those that do not know, it is in an area that degrades the wood very very fast and they use no preservers, so they are constantly making new carvings to replace what has rotted, as in if it was left for 2 years there would be nothing left.

I think friends and I used to stop here on the way back from golf on a Thurs afternoon some time ago. Also, at 300TB it seemed quite costly, considering you can get to Victory monument in Bangkok for 200TB, using same transport from 2nd Rd. Love your video's still.
Expensive at 300TB? The trip is 2 way plus the bus is unlikely to have another hire between drop off and pickup times. Whereas the VM trip is a one way fare.
@@dabhand6796 VM's probably 2 n half times the distance. And yes I forgot about the return journey. But, considering I went from Pattaya to Sihanoukville for 1200TB, trips like that make it appear costly

No, not if you want to visit the bars and enjoy some adult beverages and then return the same day. Better to leave the driving to someone else in that case.

@@okbilly1 Don't buy. Unless you are 100% sure that the place you buy is the place you want to stay for the rest of your life. Even then I advise you rent. Re-selling a condo can take a long long time. The quality of most builds is questionable and if your place starts falling apart good luck re-selling. I strongly advise you rent. If you take a long contract the rental prices fall dramatically. Put your money in stocks that pay dividends or bonds so you are earning and rent in Thailand. Just my 2 cents worth.

I would just get a taxi down there from Pattaya & not worry about doing the tour done that a few times over the year's

Ban Chang use to be the GI hot spot in early 70s.They come to looking for wife rent ( เมียเช่า ). After the Vietnam war was over then they just left.Ban Chang became as a ghost town, all business had gone busted.

A lot of these places you wonder why a tourist or expat would ever go there (for more than a day or 2). IF it's not near the ocean then no thanks usually..

Most Thai women work to feed their families. They don't have a great deal of money. So don't you think it's a bit insensitive to show them how much money you've got. I watch all your videos and everyone has been really good full stop but this one has me flummoxed
