It's quite an obstacle course looking for apartments in Phnom Penh. I also recently had a budget of $200/month. Saw many apartments with agents and unfortunately they don't seem to listen to your needs. I'd come to some places thinking it's about $200 but then he would say, oh this ones $350. I'm not sure which apartment this guy ended up taking but it's a matter of perseverance too. I managed to find myself a $180/month apartment, new building, one bedroom, 6th floor with elevator in Toul kork (lol not a golden elevator 😂). The kitchen is in the balcony but all brand new. No management fee, 0.25¢ kilowatt electric, free water, free wifi and garbage collection. Be careful of these management fee places. I can see the guys budget was $200/month but the first two, he will actually be paying about $300+ every month. Stick to your guns with your budget price and you will eventually find. Unfortunately agents just want their commissions and won't exactly swing your way but try to get you a more expensive apartment. Also a very important factor when you're apartment hunting, make sure the electricity meter is around or inside your apartment where you can view it, if all the apartments meters are down stairs where the owners live, they could be cheating you with your monthly price. I take a picture of the meter every month just in case.
Those people saying they agreed to the first place they saw, well, thats ok but doesnt hurt to shop around. Photos on fb groups can be deceiving too as it most probably wont look the same when youre actually there.
It's a good idea also if your bedroom has its own door to get into because an open studio apartment room you can hear corridor noise, had this problem in a place i lived and you'd suddenly wake up at 2am with corridor chatter from other tenants coming back from their outing.
So important questions to ask:
- water price
- electric price
- any other fees
- is 6 months ok? Is 12 months ok? I always sign a 6 month contract just in case. Touch wood, my current apartment is all good and landlord is honest.
Bit of a long rant but yeah, hope all went well😊
Good advice. It's definitely possible to find something if you put the time in. I am at a higher budget, and I found something $120 under the market. I pay $480 for a place that's supposed to be $650
Good post
so helpful feedback!
Awesome video 📹 👏 👌
🙏🏻
This is a really helpful video for anyone on a budget
I am glad it was helpful
Great video 📹
Thanks
I ended up taking the first place we looked at. I'm still here, but moving to Vietnam soon. Apartment and service were very good, neighbors were nice, supermarket was only a 6-7 minute walk away. Ordering out for meals was a lot more expensive than Riverside though.
Yes sometimes it's better to spend a bit more and prioritize convenience
Just for reference how far away was that from Riverside?
What is management for? What is being managed?
Your content is so helpful! Thanks so much. Contemplating a move from Canada late this year!

Really helpful 👌
I'm glad
Thank you
🙏🏻
Phnom Penh is the real deal👍🏽
Ita always been good to me
Yes I know those places.
It's closer to his school
Yep, first one.
He ended up choosing that one
First one as you said.
Yup
Try Borey Sopheakmongkul in Chroy Changvar just outside the city proper. It's a gated community and peaceful surroundings too.
Awesome 👌 that side of the river is very chill. I prefer to be a bit more in town but definitely cool 😎
First one.
I felt it was the best also
Nice to see the cheaper end of the market....so many videos only show $900+ places.
Definitely, you do not need to spend 900 to get something nice. Over 500 and most places start being pretty nice. I see some of the stuff they charge huge amounts for, like even several thousand, and honestly, aside from a few projects, I am not crazy impressed
Excellent video! Thank you Sir. Thinking of moving there. How can I contact you ?
Hey, all the contact information is in the video description. We have a Facebook page with 50+ reviews as well. You can pm em there, and I add you on messenger or Whatsapp. I can also send you socials on rebornabroad@gmail.com
Got first bathroom with no electric you can definitely brush your teeth
Haha 😄 got to keep them shinning
awe puppies.. how likely am i to get an apartment if i had my dog ?
Harder but possible
No lights again in the toilet room again?
Unprepared lol
Take it easy :-)
Area I live and have done for 5 years. Like that shit over there ? 😮 Just past my street. Need to talk to me.:-)
Haha 😄
Dingy tours ?
How do you mean
Flush paper ?
Lol 😆 🤣 😂
I lived in China for 2 years.
I lived in China a while myself two different cities for different times
When I first came here there was a mouse 🐭 in the toilet bowl looking up at me and I told the assistant owner so he flushed it as I walked out to them check the bedroom etc. I had a place in China on the 37 floor and rats got into my apartment through the kitchen roof.
Fuck that sucks man. I lived above a beef stake restaurant in Saigon. The ground floor was super dirty
Washing machines are not like front loaders. Pretty crap to be honest. Best leave clothes soak on first cycle for a while and set on wash again.
Makes sense ours is top loaded but in a nicer condo
All he has to do for the shower is add an adjustable rod with a shower curtain.
Problem solved
For sure
That was my thought , just buy a shower curtain,
I had mice in a 2nd place here in Toul Kork that had mice come through the kitchen roof also. What toilet paper? NO do not flush toilet paper. Are you crazy ?
I am a hose man myself
Use Google maps for close stores why need him to take you. You could walk or use a bicycle.
I think by now he worked it out
Bein Hua ?
Do you mean Bien Hoa? In Vietnam
Last thing you need is mould on the walls 37 floors up in a building in China and rats coming through the kitchen cupboards high up above the kitchen prep area.
Toilet paper to flush here ?
WTF?
Yeah, I hear that I like high-rise living
Glass door is like China.
Yeah I couldn't do it lol
Keep the moisture out when it rained or the walls of your room would get really damp and mouldy very, very, very quickly. Also to put your Aircon on. Weird but that's what it is.
I love china, lived their for 6 years, had a great landlord,
What kind of income do you have that you can only afford $200 a month? I’m on VA pension and could afford $500 easily.
I pay $480. The person we helped find apartments is an English teacher.
@@rebornabroad okay. I didn’t mean any offense.
Well, regardless of income, that's $300/mth a person can spend on other things.
Housing is a personal consideration.
I have retired here.
My buddy is a teacher
Help! We're being invaded :-) :-)
Hahaha 😆
Block the drains for every apartment in the building because he wants to wipe his arse. Seriously ?
Lol 😆 🤣 😂 I guess he finds it gross to throw it in a garbage. I get that. So I just use the hose.
Never had a problem
Thats why you get a room on the first floor lol
Your going to block your toilet bro.
I been telling him lol thanks for all the comments Gary helps with engagement
The lighting on your camera sucks
It's a go pro ots actually not so bad, but a lot of the area we stayed in has next to no light. Go pro 12 works ok in low light. You'll see in the better lit videos the difference. Gopro 12 is pretty good, but it's average in extremely low light.
to much blablabla
Enough to make you comment brush yo teef 😬 🪥
why do you cuss so much?
Because I feel like it....brush your teeth 😬 🪥... don't like it, don't watch b1tch. No one cares about your opinion.
