You can do the same in Vietnam too, only problem is the long term visa, which in Cambodia is simple to do! I’ve been to Cambodia a number of times, it’s ok, you should try Bali, it’s good value too and a lot more interesting culture imo! Still Thailand for me, been living in Jomtien/Pratumnak well over 3 years, better overall lifestyle, it’s easy to travel to other countries. I’ve been to Laos, Philippines, Bali, Nepal, India, Turkey while keeping my base in Thailand, can’t beat the advantage of living near Bangkok for the ease of travelling! In two weeks I’am visiting family in the U.K. and Greece, most flights are cheaper from Bangkok, which is 143baht on the bus, Jomtien to Suvarnabhumi Airport!

Accomodation dirt cheap .Electric 0.25 cts unit - expensive.

    • @whyhellotherewithdrmarksabean

and that's the problem is that most people cannot adapt nor can they understand that most of the s*** that they're buying and wasting their money on is exactly that just s*** that they're wasting their money on.....

The comparison here in this video is so accurate for Siem Reap . It is certainly from what I've experienced the best value in South East Asia . If we were to compare the two capital cities however , then Bangkok would probably be better value than Phnom Penh . Siem Reap is a good base for an extended stay with an international airport if the occasional trip to neighboring countries is necessary.

Hello Doc. I always enjoyed your videos and now you're doing one in Cambodia right before I arrived. What a coincidence. I will be traveling to Phnom Penh next week from Los Angeles. I'm very excited to do my own comparison, I'm a real foodie. I plan to get to Siam Reap sometime in late June or early July. I hope we can meet up for tacos and beer. Coming from California, I know what good tacos taste like.
For those who don't know, there are a significant number of American Cambodians that were deported from the US. The biggest Khmer population outside Cambodia is in Long Beach, CA. Cambodia town is mixed with the Mexicans and Blacks communities. These American Khmer were raised on good tacos.
Majority of Cambodia's population are called Khmers, I understand that they prefer to be called Khmer but they take no offense to the term Cambodians.
I hope to meet up with you on my latest adventure. I've been to Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. I am working on getting to all the countries of ASEAN (Association of South East Nations).

Phuket is on the ocean. Siem Reap is inland. That makes a difference to some people, like me.

Yeah all fine and good until you decide to rent a place longer term, and your power bill is ridiculous using aircon if you go over 50 KWH/month, I believe Cambodia has one of the most expensive rate per KWH in the world. Short term stays, yeah, Id say Cambodia would be cheaper than the most expensive place in Thailand in Phuket IF your renting a room that pays for your power, or not for a few days, but anything over a month...I dont think so for the rest of Thailand. Places like Hua Hin, Cha-am, Chiang Mai, Jomtien, etc would likely still be farrrr cheaper if I were to guess, I guess we will have to await your longer term stay vids.

I have heard from some of the locals that yes you have to be careful with the aircon so when you were renting a place try to find one that has your power included and I was able to find several examples with air conditioning and power included in the rents....
I will say this much I got absolutely raped down in Phuket one time the only time I rented and didn't have power included the power was more expensive than my room...
      Lol
      Never again...

My friends in Phom Penh, said it is $.25/kwh. They said always get a North facing room, because of the sun. Only use A/C in your bedroom at night. Use fans during the day. A fan uses 1/100 the electricity of A/C. Buy a propane frying pan burner, instead of electric one. Make sure you have access to your electric meter. Electricity will be no more than $47/month.
