  • Join me in Siem Reap Cambodia... hunting for our new dream home on a $350 budget! In this episode I give a glimpse of how living in Cambodia can be on a budget. We spent a day viewing 8 uniquely different properties ranging from $270 to $400. Though you can rent a 1 bedroom easily for around $150. I also share which house we chose!
    The company I used to find these apartments is SRPS, or Siem Reap Property Services.
    Thanks as always for watching! Please subscribe to follow my journey as a painter living in Brooklyn and Siem Reap, Cambodia!
    I was born in 1982, in Flint, MI, and attended Western Michigan University with a concentration in painting and am recognized for creating bold memory-staining works. I address personal and immediate social issues, and most presently, global and political issues, and examine such topics as feminism, ageism, memory deterioration, intimacy, death and confrontational experience. I use oil paint on cotton or linen as my mainstay medium, in order to achieve empathetic coverage of these socially and emotionally shared issues, and have been able to achieve considerable viewer pause through my dedicated work habit, vibrant color choices, straightforward subject matter, and by using people and objects within my community as models. My paintings tend to function as highly relatable, ensuing discussion amongst viewers, and bringing the public forum necessarily back.
    I currently live and work in Brooklyn, New York and Siem Reap, Cambodia.

    • @juliahaw
      @juliahaw  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wow. No. Please don't spend that type of money on rent. You'll find once you arrive you won't make that much money if you are working from there. Also, it doesn't make sense. You can live very well and find a place for max $250. I'd suggest something with WiFi, FULLY furnished with the kitchenware, and looking in Sala Kamreuk. Also, be mindful that air-con and electricity tend to be high in SR, and will add a good $30-50 to your rent if it's not included. xo Good luck!!!!

    Cambodia’s re-opening is set to be done in phases with Sihanoukville and the Koh Kong Islands on the Gulf of Thailand being the first provinces to open. Travellers who wish to visit are required to present proof they have been fully vaccinated, have a valid PCR test and a pre-booked hotel confirmation. After a 5 day stays you will be allowed to travel freely in Cambodia.
    Siem Reap province is set to re-open as the second quarantine-free province on 1 of January 2022 as part of the program. Similarly, after 5-day stay travellers are free to continue and visit other destinations unrestricted throughout Cambodia.

    Yeah It's costly for the air conditioning as you really need It on all night long and sometimes It's a little noisy unless It's of good quality, then you'll have the Gas , and bottled water costs and be aware the Chinese are buying a lot and pushing up prices and taking over lots of business and the locals are losing out because of this , so It won't be a good place too actually retire in the future as It will become expensive, right now you'd acutely need around a thousand US, dollars a month to live pretty comfortably as a foreigner that's eating out every day at a restaurant and socialising in the evening, if you are doubting my advice about the Chinese invasion just checkout what the locals are saying about kampong Som (Sihanoukville ) with the casinos and the violence on TH-cam just always better to be informed, nothing personal as the country and the Khmer people are wonderful and one of my favourite countries in the world 🌎 I would recommend It still to anyone who loves a sense of adventure, but please do your homework before listening to my thoughts as we are all individuals with different opinions , I lived there for 3 years and will definitely go back one day as my personal stay was a wonderful time 🙏

      The walk into town was approximately 10-15 minutes. The internet would cut out at times... so a bit spotty, but most of the time it was good! We had a health food store right across the road from our apartment too, so a very limited walk for fresh produce. :)

      @@juliahaw I'm looking at PP, but that's not for 3 years. I have to be 55 to come on a retiree visa. Since I have my SSDI and will have to cut off my Part B, I'll have $2,295 I can work with from SS plus another $300+ from my early retirement. From watching the two of you shopping for a home or apartment I was in awe at what I saw. Plus I'll be coming alone anyway. By the way, the health insurance there, I heard it was like $30 per month, is that true? Also, I don't mind paying the extra $50 a month for electricity for using my A/C. I can't be hot. Is that the max it goes up, $50?? Thanks for responding.

      Well this comment is quite passive and impolite. If you mean my partner, his name is Blair and he's a very chill guy. He also prefers not to be on camera so much, so I respect that. He's an amazing person. Also, judging by the views on the video, I'm thankful many others have watched and enjoyed! Cheers!

      @@juliahaw Aloha, because of the plandemic and other issues, I am not in Thailand presently. I have not seen my wife in over a year. I have called the Big Island of Hawaii home since 1983. I can live pretty cheaply here as I have always owned property and house here. I have ALWAYS remained out of debt and owe no many to anyone. My back boundary on my 7 acres is a large forest reserve.
      Never have hooked up to "their" power, sewer, water, cable, satellite, etc. Provide what I need for myself. I moved here a long time ago after discovering I could grow fruits and vegetables year round here. Over 33 years with the National Park Service. Anyway... long winded.
      To actually answer your question...
      She has a small house in her community (not far from rice farm she grew up on) of Chaiyaphum "city" (small). Chyiaphum is in the province of Chaiyaphum which is central Thailand. It is of the Issan culture.

    Loved the tour of all the available rentals… thank you. One comment tho… the camera work is so very choppy, chaotic, and frantic it’s like someone with ADHD is recording - To make better video try to calm down, breathe deeply, relax, and pan more slowly and steadily to allow the viewer to actually see something before jerking their attention to this thing, that thing, the next thing, the next thing, and oh that and this and well that too. Doing good hand-held video requires the camera person to at least try to be steady and organized. Perhaps you felt stressed and were just rushing about to find a place qui qui - and if so that really comes across loud and clear. Deep breaths help. Good luck in your new home.

      Thank you -- I've heard several comments like this. Perhaps I was VERY excited in this video. My own plans to go to Java and other islands in Indonesia have been ‘on hold’ since the pandemic began… My Indonesian partner and I are separated by 12 time zones but we press on via several hours of Skype twice each day. I’ve been reading lately that Cambodia is quite the desirable destination for English-speaking travelers. If only the pandemic would wind down we could all dust off our passports and get in line again. Be well.
