I got my part(s) in. It is actually 2 cables, one long and one short. Looks identical to the ones in his video. His initial link did not work, but if you scroll down a bit in the comments, he gives a working link. Worked for me. As for installation, I have not done that yet. My 2004 Jetta Wagon TDI work is priority (tiny vs huge diesel).
Thank you for showing this. I was able to fix my dad's no problem... well, at least I was able to jerry-rig it for him. Basically, the plastic part of the metal wire was broken like in your video. But the wire was still connected to both the handle and the latch. I used a small backpack strap with the click thingy, looped it around the metal wire inside the door, pulled it up, put the rear cover panel back on loosely, then when you pull up on the strap, the door pops open. Not the perfect solution, but it works and all in all took about 15 minutes. Anyways, ty for the video!
Glad to help. The part number for the replacement cable is on eBay item number 224316912481. This one works great even though it’s for a Ford “E” series van.
Thank you very much for this video. I was able fix the door using a metal sleeve sold in Amazon that replaces the ends of the OEM cables. Got to keep the original, plus the ends are now made of aluminum instead of rubber.
Thanks. Followed instructions and got the door open so I can work on it. Got the top cable loose without a hitch. Did I miss the part about watching out for stripping the latch bolts. The last darn one stripped ☹️Guess the door comes off to drill it out.
Enjoyed the video worked well for my excursion. Two questions: Is there a reason you went with the new cable vs the metal end repair kit? Also If you had to, how do you remove the rivets on the handle and what would you replace with Bolts, screws or rivets?
Go to EBay- item number 224316912481 It will show 1997 - 2012 Ford E150 / E250 / E350 Vans. This is the cable that works perfectly for the 2000 - 2005 Ford Excursions discontinued rear cable.
Thanks for the video! Repair was straight forward and not too difficult. Do you have a part number for the retaining clips? All of mine broke and I can't seem to find a matching part anywhere.
This just broke on my Excursion. Watched the video, looks like a pretty easy job thanks to the tips. The link does not work anymore though. Do you have a part number?
I was confused on the retainer clip? I didn't see where you put it back into place? Or, if removing the latch assembly out the bottom, it is done there? It did not look the same when you connected the cable to the latch in the bottom mechanism. Great video and thanks for the link to the part. I am sure I would have never found one!
Ok, update for anyone that has to do this fix. Again, thanks so much for taking the time to video this in such great detail. I just replaced my cable and it works great thanks to your time showing how to do this and most importantly where to get a replacement cable from! The confusion I had was the cable clip is on the door handle side, not the latch on the bottom of the door. Once I got into it, I could see the clip to release. I was able to stick my arm in the door and squeeze with my fingers and it came loose so I could pull the cable out from the door latch assy. Both ends of the cable were deteriorated and also I took time to clean and re-lubricate the latch assy. It was very stiff and hard to pull, so likely why it finally broke. Once I cleaned and lubed, it was easy to operate with little to no resistance.
Okay I tried doing this today. I got one screw out and discovered there had been blue lock tight on the screw. I stripped out the other two trying to get them out. So with a lot of attempts I actually did the repair without removing the latch mechanism. It took many attempts but I got it done.
eBay item number 224316912481. This is a great replacement for the discontinued Excursion barn door cable. You will be buying one for a 1997 - 2012 Ford “E” Series Van but it’s the same size as the Excursion’s. Hope this helps.

Same issue this week with my 2000 7.3 Excursion. Ordered the part off EBay and will fix it when arrives thanks to your video. Great job.
What’s the link to the part you bought and can you verify it worked properly after installation?

@@alley55customs93 @Alley 55 Customs I did the repair today. Works great. Would have been a hassle without your video. Thank you so much.
@@wonderingsoul9890 I’m glad I could help. Sorry for the delayed response. If you have any other automotive questions please feel free to contact me.
For me it wasn’t the wire that broke it was a plastic piece on the handle
