- Quick step by step on resolving any issue related to the rear hatch locking mechanism. Come to find out I was missing a a small yellow sleeve that goes on the arm of the actuator that allows it to fit snug in the locking slot. And my apologies for not know all of the proper terminology for every part.
I've been spraying the piss out of the latches thinking they were the problem. Ford dealer said keep on spraying because it's discontinued. I bought our Excursion for a tow vehicle and I have to be able to lock it to secure items while we are away from the RV. Thank you!! I ordered L & R because 2 was only $6 more ($18 on Amazon) and the L worked perfectly. I used electronic spray clean to knock off all of the action parts and then lubed it all back up with WD40. Thank you Thank you for going back and pointing out THE action piece that usually binds. Mine wasn't going anywhere, but I got it rock'en after cleaned and lubed. I can lock my Excursion now after 10 months of open access to my stuff. Thanks again!!!
Good looking out I've been driving around for the past four years with my back hatch not locking anyone could of opened it and taking things out. I'm glad I'm finally getting done so I can feel secure when I go out

Awsome video, i just bought a 73 excursion a couple days ago and i locked the doors with my keyfob and could no longer open my rear doors and now i know how to fix it ! Thanks!
Thanks, good info, it looks pretty straight forward. On many vehicles I have worked on, people have already broke the plastic trim, especially on the drivers door lock trim panel and then try to tape or glue them down.. Nice truck.

2 questions:
1. It's been a couple of years since you posted this. Is the $15 actuator still working?
2. If it is, what brand/part number is it on Amazon?
I've seen actuators run from $15 to $105. Some of the reviews of the cheap ones aren't so good. But also, some of the expensive ones have failed as well.

They are below $8 on eBay right now, USA seller. This was awesome tip that it is the left side actuator. Mine has been bad for years, so I hope this fixes it. I fixed it once by oiling it, but it's too far gone to work right.

Yes still having problems with the hatch locking replace the actuator it works great just the hatch but will not lock any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. I just purchased a Ford Excursion (sight unseen on Craigslist....yes big mistake!) Anyway, the the tailgate won't open and the actuator is bad too. You video was help on the actuator. I can lock and unlock the door things look like they a functioning from the inside with the panel off, but the handle still won't open the door. The only thing I can think of is the two cables by the locking mechanism aren't snug, but I didn't think the ones in your video were snug either. Any thoughts?
I just used my Rem oil. It was so gummed up.
