I think the guys that made that glass should use your video as a promo for just how tough their product is. It weathered a sustained assault from some serious heavy hitters and took a mad minute after that to finally get through it. Very impressive product.
@@martydom666 Based on a quick google search it sounds like an average 50 cal round hits with around 15,000 ft-lbs. The 4 bore on the other hand, delivers a whopping 30,000 ft-lbs. Twice as much energy, however in terms of penetration they are hard to compare. The 50 is half the diameter with a very pointed tip while the 4 bore is a full inch and completely rounded. I would wager that a good 50 cal round could have made it through the glass but that's just my guess.
@@martydom666 in terms of raw muzzle energy the four bore is roughly double what the .50 BMG puts out (about 30,000 foot/pounds of muzzle energy vs 15,000). But it does this with a bullet that is just slightly double the diameter and about quadruple (ish) the mass and cruising at 1/2 to 2/3 the velocity. It is an absolutely massive bullet that is going fairly slow. The four bore delivers almost three times the felt recoil of a .50 BMG.
The 4 bore is for sure hitting harder but with armour the main thing is speed of the projectile, not mass so i doubt it will stop a 50 bmg AP round @@martydom666

If I recall correctly, the layers of glass are very hard but very brittle, so they're there to absorb most of the energy, but the plastic at the back is far more ductile and so will deform instead of shatter, allowing it to catch the projectile (or pieces of it) after the force has been reduced from going through the glass.

As a retired engineer, I was wondering if the bullet proof glass was mounted in a solid frame that wouldn't move, if that 4 bore would have made it through? as the glass is unsupported, the impact of the projectile will "move the glass" thus absorbing some of the energy. Something to think about or maybe try out!!

@KentuckyBallistics That was by far my favorite video of yours that I have seen after 2 plus years of watching. That shot of the glass stopping that 4 bore round was simply amazing! Great job Scott!
ok. this was the LAST thing i expected scott 😂 it stopped a 4 bore, rigby, tyrannosaur, AND a 700 overkill, on the same pane of glass, battle worn and everything stopped the other three calibers despite the 4 bore nearly totaling it. amazing. love what ya do man.
Best video so far from this channel imo. That glass is simply jaw dropping. I'm reminded of the special anti-space debris armor used by nasa where the velocity of the round/object itself is used against it, but that armor isn't transparent. This is simply phenomenal.
The Gatling gun, and now the 4 Bore. I really appreciate how instructional your videos are. It is very interesting to see how the energy of the 4 Bore slug is distributed upon the glass, Thank you Sir. I will be purchasing a Kentucky Ballistics hoodie, shirt and hat this next coming check.
@@814adventuresI have followed Brian for many years and the last video he made broke me... I am just so glad his son and team have carried on his great work!
Normal armour is defeated by crossectional energy density. That is why the tank rounds are long, heavy darts: they have lots of energy but a small cross section and hence go through a lot of armour. This is also how the .416 Rigby works its magic. Armour glass however cares only marginally about energy density, it mostly only cares about the total amount of energy delivered. So after the 4 Bore was stopped, I pretty much figured nothing else would go through either.
Tank sabots also work in a pretty interesting way. Rather than stopping or deforming, they ablate both themselves and the armour. If a sabot penetrates thick armour, the projectile coming through is a lot shorter than it was originally with minimal mushrooming.
@@joost1120 makes sense. Shedding a few percent of its mass but keeping the crossection will retain much more energy density than musheooming even slightly while keeping the mass constant
@@fabiovarra3698 I don't know about the specific difference in effect of AP and ball on armour glass but if a specifically hard bullet doesn't do anything special on glass, it should lose against the 4 bore because of the lower energy of BMG. But shooting large caliber AP against that glass is an experiment I'd love to see.
Yesss! Scott Buddy! You do listen to the comments ❤ How much you wanna bet your bulletproof glass sponsor plays these videos during meetings to use as a selling point to potential clients 😂

I think you may have the best promo style out of anyone on youtube. You save it until the end, and you're setting up something which pays off afterwards while you're doing it. Yours are seriously the only ones I don't skip because they aren't positioned as an interruption, more like credits.
Scott: It's about 150-200 pounds. So its not light
Also Scott: Lifts it with ease
He made it look like it was 10 lbs 😂
The rifle is only 20 lbs. Still hefty. And the recoil, yeah, he makes that 200 lbs look like nothing.
He's not light either.

@KentuckyBallistics Thanks for the shoutout and recognition for Paul Harrell! He’s a great guy going through a very difficult time and it’s very good of you to do that!
I’ve shot a 416 rigby! Definitely something I don’t want to do again! But I would try the 4 bore just to see what it’s like!
I'm happy you mentioned Paul Harrell.
That was really cool to see. I have been in the glass business for 32 years and I’ve installed that same glass in banks. I new my guns wouldn’t go through it but it was cool to see it hold up to your big guns.
Do you know specifically what kind of glass this is?
I’d be curious on 50bmg, especially as common ammo is steel core
@@FrankVeloEh a 950 JDJ could punch through it
@@karisasani7006 Still doesn't mean a steel core wouldn't penetrate. Lead VS Steel.
That glass is nucking futs man... It's really sad about Paul I've been a sub ever since he started the channel. He's a wealth of knowledge and just all around good person. My prayers goes out to him and his family....
If I recall correctly, the layers of glass are very hard but very brittle, so they're there to absorb most of the energy, but the plastic at the back is far more ductile and so will deform instead of shatter, allowing it to catch the projectile (or pieces of it) after the force has been reduced from going through the glass.
That first shot of the 4 bore behind the glass was amazing.
The you just got jammed guy still makes me laugh every single time 🤣
I enjoy Paul's direct information. He has a specific way that is very much appreciated.
That was the coolest experiment you've done by far !!! Especially the slow motion camera. Thanks for sharing 😮

I was getting depressed and then bam!! We got hit with the jammer!! Love it! Whats the best part is from the other room I hear my beautiful twenty something not into gun tube GF say " you just got jammed" LoL then she walked into the room with me and she hits me with it again except one hand on the hip and holding the door open just like him!!
Used to make lexan. The nonlaminate sheets are designed for large-body impacts. (Think hockey players or debris from a racecar.). The laminate variants are the ones people think of for small arms bulletproofing / riot shields. Yeah, much like wood, lexan has a grain to it (same for any other polycarbonate product).
I love how Scott grabs his rifles to show them to us, folding his fingers in such a way that we can see it as good a we can. The Scott grab

Same thought process over here
Man! That is some badass glass. It ate that 4 bore like Pacman eats blue ghosts.
(Wocka wocka wocka wocka wocka wocka wocka wocka...bloop bloop bloop bloop)
Scott, this video is for me anyway your most impressive! (1) You still appear to have a functioning shoulder (2) That glass being able to absorb those ridiculously powerful rifle shots - AMAZING!
I know, right ?
Watching the slo-mo behind the glass when you shot the 4-bore, that looked wicked cool. Even turned the glass into a work of art.
Somehow there was fire behind the glass just after impact
I like your new wall art, the bulletproof lexan is multi-layered 3/8 hard polycarbonate, 1/4 softer acrylic. Laminated together.
6:14 “probably the most terrifying thing anyone will ever witness”😂😂
Yup. The sound it madededed and the way it lookded was truly terrifying.

Your soggy bottom quote was so relatable, I had a good laugh. Enjoyed the video. Thanks for bringing up Paul. I didnt know that he was sick. I used to watch some of his channel. He has some very informative videos on ballistics etc.
@KentuckyBallistics That was by far my favorite video of yours that I have seen after 2 plus years of watching. That shot of the glass stopping that 4 bore round was simply amazing! Great job Scott!
The explosion of the glass from the .4 bore was just wonderful! And the bolge and the cracks... ❤❤❤
ok. this was the LAST thing i expected scott 😂 it stopped a 4 bore, rigby, tyrannosaur, AND a 700 overkill, on the same pane of glass, battle worn and everything stopped the other three calibers despite the 4 bore nearly totaling it. amazing. love what ya do man.
That glass is impressive! Even with damage from previous hits, it still holds up!
Best video so far from this channel imo. That glass is simply jaw dropping. I'm reminded of the special anti-space debris armor used by nasa where the velocity of the round/object itself is used against it, but that armor isn't transparent. This is simply phenomenal.
No such thing as Space Armor, NASA is a fraudulent organization, stealing the taxpayers money, and lying to the world
The Gatling gun, and now the 4 Bore. I really appreciate how instructional your videos are. It is very interesting to see how the energy of the 4 Bore slug is distributed upon the glass, Thank you Sir. I will be purchasing a Kentucky Ballistics hoodie, shirt and hat this next coming check.
Prayers for Paul Harrell and his family. Scott u sure do have some nice big gun's to shoot. Another great and funny opening/intro.

@@814adventuresI have followed Brian for many years and the last video he made broke me... I am just so glad his son and team have carried on his great work!
That Slow MO Shot Was Freaking Awesome 👌
Maybe 50 bmg with armor piercing bullets?
@@joost1120 makes sense. Shedding a few percent of its mass but keeping the crossection will retain much more energy density than musheooming even slightly while keeping the mass constant
@@fabiovarra3698 I don't know about the specific difference in effect of AP and ball on armour glass but if a specifically hard bullet doesn't do anything special on glass, it should lose against the 4 bore because of the lower energy of BMG.
But shooting large caliber AP against that glass is an experiment I'd love to see.
@@ABCKorpi something like antitank rifles?
Yesss! Scott Buddy! You do listen to the comments ❤
How much you wanna bet your bulletproof glass sponsor plays these videos during meetings to use as a selling point to potential clients 😂
I know I would! "Free Testing with some of the most stupidly overpowered rounds? Why the hell not!"
"As you gentlemen can see, our glass can even stop 2000 grain 4 bore rounds."
You should read more comments if you wonder why someone would ignore them.
Those manufacturers deserve some top-end military contracts with that sort of quality glass.
One of the coolest videos ive seen, that slow-mo shot behind the glass was awesome!! Keep em comin brother!
When it cuts to black and you just hear Scott laughing and saying, "Oh my god!" ,you know some goofy shenanigans are taking place. Cracks me up every time. 😂
That bit of glass needs to be sealed with resin and framed on a wall man. That was freaken awesome... John Maleki would be your guy to colab with for that he did Matt's table I think!
I appreciate the courage it took to place your slow mo camera behind the glass in order to get the shot......the video shot you got was awesome....thank you.
6:17 🤯WOW man THAT'S the money shot! holey krapp you can actually see the bullet coming behind that glass and i'm surprised it didn't go through!
I think you should’ve stopped after the fullbore that would’ve been a beautiful work of art to put a frame around that glass with some LED lights around the edges to light up all the cracks!🙀
I love that putting his slow-mo cam behind the glass sounded like such a dumb idea that even Scooter off in the distance yelled "you are so stupid!" XD
I cant believe it something finally stopped the 416 rigby brass solid😮😮 the glass after the 4 bore shot looked so cool from the front definitely could have ben a piece of art❤❤❤
