I'm from Denmark and all the measurements have to be converted to cm/mm but seeing Scott put a .50 BMG (approx. a 12.7X108mm which I've fired from an OSV-96) makes me appreciate how huge that punt gun is, like DAMN it's big.
A local museum has a punt gun, not sure the bore size but the gun is 12 feet long overall from the butt end to the end of the barrel. My grandfather, who was all of 5 feet 3 inches tall and never weighed more than 130 pounds in his life used to have a double barreled 8 gauge shotgun and during the Great Depression he would take a Johnboat and lay that double 8 gauge across the back end, float towards a flock of ducks and let loose. He would take most, sell them to the market and keep a couple for himself and his family.
Looks like it broke maybe two out of four camshafts (and valves and such to go with) and relevant parts of the heads, other than the valve covers, intake manifold, and whatever other external stuff was in its path. So maybe if the timing belt or chain(s) was(were) still hanging on along with front halves of camshafts and one or more journals, or maybe even without, you could still spin the crank with the starter.
Since it's a front wheel drive, the engine is mounted transverse which means it actually sits sideways in the car. The flywheel and starter were off to one side, so they were out of the line of fire.
@danielgoodman3578 Yeah, it tore up the heads and intake but missed the block. If the pistons aren't damaged and locked up, a damaged camshaft isn't going to stop that starter.
It's went straight into the head, through the manifolds and camshafts. If he aimed just a little lower and hit the both the head and the block it would literally split the motor in half. There was a lot more potential for damage. Either that or go through the side, the projectile would go through the entire block.
Would love to see this repeated on a running highrevving engine , aimed straight at the block. Like if you start a Volvo B230 mounted on a stand, and shoot it so that the projectile can go through all 4 cylinders. With slow motion footage and all.
The punt gun will never cease to amaze me! Surprised at the (relatively) right spread given its purpose. Makes me wonder how it would do against a boat.
The entire top of that engine is made out of phenolic plastic, so it wouldn't take a whole lot to punch through it. I'm amazed at how clean & huge of a chunk of it was taken out. An expert with an angle grinder would have trouble trying make a cut as straight as the punt gun did. I'm almost impressed that the intake didn't shatter into a pile of carbon black legos.
No, the block and heads are aluminum. The valve covers and plenum (intake manifold) are plastic. He shot through the heads. The cams were split in half. The car is fwd, so the engine is transverse (sideways).
Regardless, I’m pretty disappointed with the results. I expected more energy out of 150lb gun, blackpower I guess 🤷♂️. Maybe he’ll get a 20mm in the future.

V = sqrt( F / m ) ->
V = sqrt( 41k / 0.454) -> V=300.5 m/s mussle velocity (329 yard/s)

This actually a great idea I’d love to see happen!
I'd love to see Bruce take on the buckshot knuckle first.
They just finished filming some stuff in the UK, so they'll probably be a bit with any guns.
I would like to see him do a video with WhistlinDiesel.
I was surprised how wide of a pattern it had with birdshot.
Although I guess it makes sense considering what these are designed for.
Need to set it up with a couple different chokes and see how the pattern changes.
14:33 pov: scott has kidnapped you and is constantly shooting you with a punt gun
The way it blew through the engine block, wow lol. Also, props to modern windshield technology. To be able to absorb THAT much power from all that birdshot is a good indicator for safety in potential real-life car accidents.
Would be nice to see it hit the block instead of the head.
THANK YOU!!! The absolute absurdity of this content had me literally laughing out loud, a much needed injection of hilarity and good times into everyday life.
With a gun that size, sitting on a platform that allows it to move backwards from recoil, you have literally just built a canon.
always heard about that engine going through's shot with big caliber all my life, now first time witness it, awesome !
Hey Scott, any chance of you trying out rock salt loads on the punt gun just to see what they do? Should have interesting results 🙃
I also would like to see "less lethal" rounds with the power of the punt gun
Paint or chalk rounds
@@BigSwagThaLionTamerI don't think there is less lethal with a small cannon
Reasonable 'bug-a-salt' type response to hornets
@@commanderwill2
Hence the quotes.
Scott always comes up with the best stuff so entertaining
If I could only ever watch one TH-cam channel ever again, I would pick this one without hesitation.
The fact that thing actually tried to start at all is amazing after basically being turned into two engines a V2 + V4. Can’t wait to see the zombie torso video, I have a strong feeling Mr.Zombie is gonna be falling apart by round number 2
It's crazy seeing how much those body panels ripple..pretty cool!
I had read about these in history, but never saw a modern version of one. Very cool to see it in action.
It’s crazy these things were completely decimating waterfowl populations in some states and were outlawed for the use of hunting waterfowl.
@@nathaniel311this means we can use it for home defense
Don't know what's more impressive. The damage the punt gun did to the car, or that the car was even able to attempt to turnover.
That fuckin birdshot was super impressive.
I'd say both, when he said he was going to try to start it I was like "Yeah that engine is not going to crank at all" But it actually did O_O
No one has more fun than Scott. Love this stuff.
FPS Russia has entered the chat... lol happy monday!
His totally legit reasons for not shouldering the punt gun. Crack me up every time
Amazing Scott. That Punt Gun is insane. At this rate you won't rent a tank, you'll own one, lol. Great stuff. 👍
Scott, you definitely know how to put on a show. Your videos keep getting better. Personally, I'd like to see you shoot a 55-gallon drum full of nacho cheese or a mo-ped or scooter with the punt gun. It would also be cool if you could get a hold of a Civil War howitzer and blast large random objects.
It’s a good day when KB uploads!
You do a great job integrating sponsors into your videos. It’s always comical and they never miss!
That gun is insane!! So cool to see the damage that thing can actually do
Awesome video Scott, I did not think that leadball would do .50 BMG type damage to that engine block!
50 bmg would do way less probably
Scott is the most entertaining gun channel, period. Great stuff!. Gotta hand it to Scott he always learns from his mistakes .
love the freaking 18th cengtury naval gun carriage you had to put it on
This would have been a great episode to have the Slo Mo guys filming too.
I’d love to see super slow mo of the punt gun.
Remember this is 2023 not 2015, there are MANY youtube producers now who own Phantom cameras.
Definitely one of NY favorite big bore guns and that's cool Ralph is back wasn't expecting the punt gun to do that much damage😱
Scott’s thirst for destruction will never be quenched…
Now that was awesome, thank you for sharing, that's definitely one crazy black powder smoothie. Holy cow.
Great video thank you.
That bit at the end with Scott carrying the gun made him look like he’d been shrunk 😂😂😂
It had real Elmer Fudd engergy going on.
Scott, your intros are always absolutely well done and absolutely hilarious!!! Keep up the good work.
For real. That little engine fire at the end had me rolling.
14:50 I saw the soul of that car accend to a better place 💀
🗿
These videos always cheer me up😁 thanks, Mr. scott
Ah yes, the classic home defense gun everyone should have
Yes,,, just to defend the homestead.
I hope to see Scott work with the Slow-Mo Guys again using the Punt gun... Imagine that kind of footage against zombie torsos and heads and maybe even another car...
I also hold the hope to see how the .416 Rigby does against a engine block, even if a "slightly" damaged one ;-)
By far my favorite gun channel on yt
Scott and Kentucky Ballistics.. you just made my day with this video. Amazing job as always. I laughed a bunch of times, you are a character Scott and seem like a solid good guy. Great footage and super enjoyable the whole way through. Cheers to you and the team. 🍻
We all appreciate you!
Well... I do 👍😄
Only recently learned about these, they're crazy. The ultimate shotgun! And imagine the recoil from the boat, jeez.
That engine totally needs to be sent to Eric of I Do Cars for one of his brilliant engine autopsies!
With minimal explanations
@@Drummerchef13 It has "aftermarket inspection ports" installed in the block. 🤣
This guy is so awesome. Thank you Scott aka Kentucky Ballistics for making my days better.
