Hi there! I just uploaded my first video a few days ago, and I just wanted to thank you for sharing this video. It was super helpful to hear your experience and some of the emotional roller coaster of the first year. It's eye opening that so many folks have doubts and difficulty with the stats. I'll try to keep sharing from my heart, and save this video for the ups and downs of the journey. Many thanks!

Thanks for the video and I applaud you for being so brave and hanging in there. I checked out your video because I heard other tarot readers on TH-cam talking about what you said in this video and that they felt the same in the beginning. I don’t understand why people have a problem with the “woo” part of Tarot. It is an integral part of metaphysics and part of why Tarot is so fascinating. It wouldn’t be Tarot without that. Also thanks so much for showing that beautiful Tarot deck. I’ve never seen another deck quite like it. Keep on keeping on! Rebecca C.

This video spoke volumes to me. A lot of things you mentioned I feel too-- except I haven't ever uploaded anything ( not sure what I want to do or share, not very tech savvy, etc) so this video warmed my heart because it's sooo down to earth and it feels so honest. You feel very honest and open and I really just wanted to say thank you. So Thank you! May you keep growing where you need to grow and going where you want to go 💜🖤💜🤯

I love this video. I am an extremely private person but love divination and yearn to connect with other people that have a passion for these things and so had considered starting a channel. Your vulnerability around your journey was wonderful food for thought. I hope you keep on sharing your content and I am looking forward to checking our your charm casting videos. This video is super insightful and inspires me to keep going with my own channel. I think it's an important watch for those who don't create content as well. I started my channel at the beginning of 2022 and actually shut it down a few months ago because I was so discouraged. It really brought out some shadows I needed to work on and integrate (imposter syndrome, do I have the personality for this, is my tech good enough, etc etc). I recently started it up again under a new name but inevitably some of those shadows still remain. At the end of the day I think what matters the most is that it's fun and fulfilling for *you* - the people you want in your corner will find you eventually.

Thank you Carrie ✨🕯️🌼 I opened up a new tarot IG account and decided to separate it from my personal. It doesn’t get a lot of likes, sometimes the views and likes are there. Girl, same. I wouldn’t say I wanted to fit in, I really wanted to have a friend group with the very same love of tarot and oracle… it what I found was serious deck fomo and a lot of tarot gate keeping. Now, I’m slowly culling the decks I acquired due to someone else’s love of those decks and I enjoy doing videos of readings that aren’t super popular 🤷🏻‍♀️ but they bring me joy.

Hi Carrie! This is so fantastic and SO relatable!!! 💖💖💖
have some thoughts so figured I would drop them here in case they're helpful to anyone! :)
Watch Time: I intentionally avoided this for a long time and kept making lonnnng videos because I like making long videos and - eventually - that watch time average increased. My average is now a lot longer than most people I talk to but only because (I'm sure) I basically ignored it. The people who enjoyed my long videos stayed and the ones who don't, probably dropped off... so the average went up! :) And also, even really successful channels watch times is just a small portion of your video. 4-8 mins is pretty standard watch time, even on longer vids because people stumble on content watch a minute or two at most and leave and their watch time averages with your actual viewers. TH-cam's auto play feature on the home and subscription feed page also affects this because if someone hovers over your video on those pages and then moves on it will affect the average. This is probably nerdy extra info you don't need but I thought it might be useful for some.
I filmed on my android tablet (an old Samsung!) for like the first year or two... and I just.. didn't edit at all initially. When I was ready to edit, I'd plug my tablet into my windows PC and move the files over and I used Windows Movie Maker (not sure it still exists.. it's not as good as iMovie but was fine for just putting clips together). On my Android phone, I have an app called capcut which I just downloaded to try to play with some shorts video editing (tiktok etc) and on first attempt it seems pretty easy to use!! :)
I totally relate to the way you expressed yourself about the self-doubt. TH-cam really highlights self-doubt for SURE. I still feel like an outsider, myself, a lot of the time, and then I just remind myself that like I can just do my thing. 💖 Love that you shared your ah has about all this. TH-cam stays fun for me because I do it for me first and try not to let others opinions about me/my content get under my skin. It honestly still does though. I just have gotten more used to managing those feelings. But even a couple months ago I got my feelings REALLY hurt by someone who thought it was totally fine to make desparaging comments about something that I had created. It still hurts, I'm just more experienced maybe at managing those feelings. So the fact that you have figured all this out after a year is pretty damn impressive honestly! GOOD FOR YOU!!!!
In the beginning, I though tit was important to be super fast to get up walk throughs of new decks etc... but I hated the 'hustle' feeling of that... so I stopped that entirely. Now, I walkthrough decks when I feel like, and don't worry if a bunch of other people have already made them before I do. :)
And lastly... at least 70% of my personal subscription feed is smaller channels. :) I love watching channels of all sizes because I don't care how many subs you have. I care if you make content that happens to be interesting to me. And I think, honestly, most people are the same. We just watch what we wanna watch regardless of how big or small the channel is.
Sorry for babbbbbbling... I just really really enjoyed this!!! :)

I'm so glad I've came across this video! I'm really new to tarot world. I feel so understood, I love creating videos, but sometimes, when I'm recording it, I feel like people won't like it, and I erase it. And some other times, I just post it anyways. In my case, I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and it's so hard here to receive a purchase, that I really enjoy doing the unboxings and walkthroughs, because I feel like I share my happiness of being able to purchase/receive my decks. At the same time, I really want to create or be part of a community, and I don't want to leave anyone behind, so I do most of my videos in English & Spanish at the same time (yeah, I'm kinda crazy hahaha) I'm thinking on creating more content not related to unboxings, but It gives me anxiety too. So I really appreciate this video. Thank you for being so honest. Big hugs, Ceci

Thank you for posting this! I did a lot of research before I decided I needed to just start and stop going for perfection. That takes practice! I love collective readings - the new perspectives they can provide for individual cards or combos is fascinating to me. So that's where I started. Down the road thinking of starting a channel more focused on VR and tarot practice. I love both but YT seems to like a narrow niche for Tarot. So far anyway.

You randomly popped up on my feed and I’m so glad you did. I found this reflective vid on your first year and it was interesting.
I liked the reflective way you used the cards to convey what you felt and thought. I looked through your other content and I’ve liked what I see, so will subscribe and dive in. I think people who say ‘I hate this that and the other’ sometimes don’t recognise that they don’t have to watch that stuff; there are so many content creators out here, and it’s easy to click stop but people love to bitch about nothing. Constructive feedback and critique can be really helpful if the spirit behind it is not just a moan. I’ve toyed with idea of doing a response to ATG’s coffee house decks as I love my coffee ☕️ I’m just going to watch your reply to that tag as I do some house work. I think if I did start a channel I would do what made me happy and interested and if it’s not for many other people OK. I follow a couple of channels that have low numbers in subs yet they are really interesting to me. Guess it also depends on if you want exposure for business, because then you got all the target audience and reach stuff to factor in. All in all thank you for sharing your reflections on your first year as a content creator it sounds like an amazing layer on the onion 🧅 of experience. 🎉

I LOVE this video, and I'm going to share it. I feel there can be a lot of pressure for small channel creators that they need to reach a certain subscriber threshold in order to be seen or heard. I'm finding that being seen and heard by those who can truly benefit from what you have to offer is the most fulfilling, even if it's just a couple of people.
You're right, the Studio app can be an absolute head trip and the imposter syndrome can really become a thing. I'm working on not checking stats so much and it's been a better experience.
I love collective readings from smaller channels because they feel more personal, and I always enjoy seeing how other people actually read the cards. Make the content you want, and the right people will show up. 💜

Your down-to-earth approach to this topic is appreciated, Carrie. So many people talk about how to gain followers and be more popular, but nobody really talks about the downsides at all. This video is very insightful, raw and honest, and every point is so valid.
I'm a tiny channel with only a few videos. A lot of your struggles are mine as well, and it was so good to hear it reflected from another person, although they are not what eat me away. I spent a decade in the UK so my English isn't bad, but my accent is heavy. It makes me anxious to think about how nobody will want to subscribe to me because my English is choppy and doesn't sound native, and it may be hard to understand sometimes. I also have anxiety around public speech to the point my voice will shake and I can't put together a coherent sentence (even online, even when there's only a camera and me). I think I'm lucky that because I'm so concerned with these two things, my stats don't worry me. They do make me reflect on my habit as a watcher though, because now I understand how my habits impact the creators I adore. I don't have a niche yet either. I'm trying to make my anxiety go away by making collection and walkthrough videos, even though I have so much I could talk about.
This video is so inspiring. I found you through it and I'm subscribing because I and the world needs more of your wonderful energy, and your wise words. I can't wait to see what beautiful content true to your heart you'll release in the future.

Sending you tons of love sweet lady. Gosh I completely understand how you feel. I have felt much of the same as you. I have tried over the years to warn people of the downfalls that can come from having a channel. It can be so hard on the psyche, and it is so important to remember why you started a channel in the first place. I do hope you are not beating yourself up because it is all a journey. I am so happy that you are back to doing the content that makes you happy. The algorithm is not your friend with TH-cam and some people are not super supportive on here. I focus heavily on giving support where I feel support because it is part of self love and care for my own psyche. Of course we want to be heard and seen and acknowledged, if not, why be on a public platform. But when we value ourselves by our views and likes it is dangerous and part of the beast that is social media and our culture. It can be a slippery slope, so finding the right channels that support you back is key. For those other channels to find us we need to also go and support them, which isn't always easy when you are a busy person. I most generally don't watch tarot readings from others because I do so much tarot for myself as it is, it can become too much, and I don't need that kind of support most generally. It definitely isn't about you and your abilities, so I hope that whole mindset has been squished! As your channel grows more people will find you and love those readings FOR SURE. I think there are different neighborhoods to the Tarot Community, The Readings and Readers have a different target, sometimes there is a cross over but than there are those that want to talk about their passion that is the tarot. Talking about their practices, sharing their journeys, their journals, their teachings, or courses or decks. Both highly valuable just different. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us so far, this is so valuable for others to hear that are thinking about starting their own channels. It took me so long to grow because I didn't know what I was doing for the first year or so. I'm always finding new footing because social media is always evolving like we are. 😍😍😍

I agree with there are different corners or avenues of tarot tube for sure and that gives a little something for everyone to watch. I'm still working on my footing, everything is a process, journey for sure, you learn as you go. My goal with this video was to give my emotional experience to the whole thing which I 100 percent know won't be everyone's journey as we all process it differently but I hope it helps someone who may be thinking something similar to not give up on themselves 😊

You do you! One thing I noticed about peoples' strong opinions in tarot tags is that they inevitably change later on, and usually they are just a reflection of what they are uncomfortable with about themselves in the moment. I see this in myself too - I started tarot from a very "only self help" lense, and now I'm thoroughly in the woo. 😂
I saw this video because other small channels that I follow shared it on their community page, which is a great way to connect as well, since the algorithm doesn't really push smaller channels.

Woo babes unite! I had like major anxiety deciding whether to do my collective readings and pick-a-cards on my channel. The fear is real! As is the hardline tarot snootiness. On a tarot subreddit, I shared my channel when I started and several people actually advised me not to do readings for the collective and pick a pile readings, literally telling me what to do with my channel, saying how tacky it is to read on a YT channel. It spooked me. I never realized it was so frowned upon by people who love tarot!

I've been a small channel for 2 years now. I totally understand the discouragement at a random drop of subs from seemingly out of nowhere; it's as though you upset someone and you don't know how. 😱 I recognize that audiences don't owe me their time, so the pressure to impress the algorithm went away pretty early... I think the most important part of having a TH-cam channel is that you enjoy what you do. You shouldn't have to worry about what others do or think, you can't control that anyway. Unboxing videos are nice but there are tons of them. I look for channels that I can learn from, show me a different perspective, or idea. A deep dive into a topic. Exploring something new, that can be done together. Take what you want to do, what you want to explore and do it on your channel. The way to true happiness is to be true to yourself. I'm an open book, I love and talk to anyone because I find people so interesting . I don't judge others for their beliefs if they are not my own, as long as they are happy, I'm happy for them. If someone doesn't like me for who I am , I'll just love them from a distance and continue living as I please. Of course it's not easy to do, to let go of what others say and do, but once you put it into practice, it gets easier as does life . I'm a Cancer and am ruled by my emotions, so this took some practice. My precious Dog Molly of 18 yrs passed in her sleep Aug.10th of this year , I was heartbroken and still am, I cried a river of tears, and I realized I couldn't remember the last time I cried. So it works. Take this advice from a 68 yr old woman. Be who you are always ! (ɔ◠ᴗ◠(◕ᴗ◕❀)

This is so incredibly relatable - everything from the impostor syndrome, to starting a channel without direction, to wanting to be a part of a community of people that have a love, a genuine love of tarot. I don't have the YT studio app, mercifully 🙂 though I have to say you don't need an app to feel like a failure, given the amount of time put into creating videos, versus watch time or subscriber numbers. And so - like you - in the end I came to the conclusion that I may as well do videos on what I love and not care about any of the other stuff. Thank you for this video - new subscriber here 💜

I just wanted to thank you for putting into words what I was feeling. I can relate to this so deeply, it is like you could read my mind, and my soul. I literally had given up. I only put out a few videos and I recorded a bunch but never uploaded them because I didn't believe they were good enough. But you have inspired me to give it another go. It isn't about the numbers game, it is about doing what you love and if others resonate with it, then great, if not, thats ok too! Being authentic is more important to my mental health than being what I think others want me to be. So what am I waiting for? Nothing! I'm going to do what I love! I super understand what you mentioned in your video . I have my channel 4 months up and I like to do decks presentation but I agree it’s nice to see comments from ppl who fallow you and you recognise their names . I have only 30 subscribers but you know what - I’m happy they are there , they are coming back and as you said - I have made few new friends I can talk about tarot and divination behind the scene and it makes me happy . Another thing is - I already thinking about engaging stuff but more for them so I don’t bored them to death 😂
Carrie - I think I will do VR to your video :) oh - and one more thing - I like collective readings because it’s great way for me to learn more about how other tarot readers read their cards just so I can learn new perspective:)

Oooof I’m doing everything on my phone too and, yeah, ooof! Small tarot channels unite, Sister! 🙌🏼✊🏼❤ I’m currently struggling with the question of whether to start a separate channel for so the woo-ass readings I want to do… I dunno! Also, my uploads are taking 12-24+ hours. Like, why? Am I alone in this?
I feel you so much in the self-questioning… and the ick that resurfaces when taking a chance with each upload. I got my first nasty comment a month ago and damn it burned! When I got my first super religious you’re-going-to-hell comment a few weeks later, it felt like a rite of passage.

Hi Carrie! I am so glad I found you on Instagram. And that led me to your channel. I really felt so much of what you said. I struggle with the same feelings - I just spoke about relevance in my latest video. And how my own perceived relevance in this space is reflected in what content I make. But the only relevant thing should be that I talk about things that I love and are passionate about. Feeling the pressure to have a ton of decks to keep up, was creating really unhealthy patterns for me. I literally never look at the metrics or numbers anymore. I tend to watch smaller channels. I feel more connected to those people in some way. Thank you so much for talking about this candidly. I haven’t always felt like a part of this community. But creators like you make me feel less alone in this space. I so appreciate the people who always comment and engage with me on here. They make it worthwhile and give me connection. ❤ I look forward to more videos from you. And maybe we should do a small channel collaboration!!! Could be fun! 😊

I am so glad you are here. I NEVER look at my stats lol. I've been here trucking along for 6 years on TH-cam and I don't even have a 1000 followers, and I am okay with that. I always watch videos all the way through. I won't watch if I can't finish a video. I would download and repost those charm-casting videos. I use Android and the Filmora app, but iMovie is probably better. IMO people who watch collective readings are not the same as tarot tube people. It is hard to please both demographics, so I don't try anymore. I loved how vulnerable this was. 💙💙

I don't remember exactly how I found your channel. I am really glad you made this particular video. It is strange how becoming a creator changes things. I have been watching videos for over 7 years, about 5 years ago, I attempted a couple vids..but I wasn't comfortable with myself or my equipment. Recently, with better stuff (hilariously a Samsung tablet😂) and a stronger sense of self, I have started uploading pretty regularly. It is a nice outlet, but honestly I have no real expectations... so every like, or comment is both surprising and rewarding. 😅 I look forward to more of your videos, as I really love the small channels... and the biggies if I am honest. 😊

Hi Carrie your video popped up on my feed and I’m so happy to have found you. I’ve been making content for just under a year. If I just go by the number of watches then unboxings definitely score the highest. I enjoy making them and going a bit deeper than a flip through as this is part of my initial process of getting a connection to each deck. I feel I’m honest with my reactions- even when I am disappointed with a deck. I’ve never been sent a deck for review so I don’t feel compelled to film to please (hopefully I’m making sense 😂). I knew from the start though that I wanted to share my growth in my understanding as I learn deeper and as a way of documenting that for myself so I can revisit my earlier content as a record. Now I’m aware that may not resonate to some and that’s ok. For instance my Decan series has less views than my unboxings but it doesn’t concern me at all. My little channel brings me joy, focus and keeps me on track. Interacting with peers is so wonderful. As for filming well I use a Samsung Galaxy S23 ultra and the internal mic is great and I use Lumafusion to edit on a Samsung tab. The iPad version of Lumafusion is better to be fair but my old iPad doesn’t have enough storage to be useful. New subscriber to your channel ❤

I personally really enjoying watching collective readings, all different readings to be honest true crime, astrological sign...all different. One because I love to see how people read and I also like to see how decks work in a reading, as much as I love a walk-through of a deck sometimes I find the images stunning and purchase the deck and then when I try to read with it, it falls flat. I like to see how people pair oracle and tarot together, what kind of energy they use them for and I also like when they then introduce charms, runes, tea leaves.
