I always come back to Infinity. 😃Their models are simply too good and too much fun to paint 😊

I am so pleased to see Corvus Belli's Infinity getting more attention.

They have some amazing models 😊 Especially the TAGs!

@@ph3lansminiatures The TAGs are works of art. The new JSA one is a beauty. Now CB seem to be moving away from SIOfail things can only improve.

@jamesmaybrick2001 Wait, they are moving away from SioCast? Have I missed something?

@@ph3lansminiatures Hopefully. Infinity Gamer put out a quick thing on facebook yesterday (maybe you tube as well) with a brand new tag ( i thought it was the one you had, but i assume not). Definately hard plastic, looked like a GW kit when made. Looked great actually.

@jamesmaybrick2001 Nice. I loved the metal TAGs, but Siocast was not my favorite. GW like plastic would be a great compromise :)

Looks great, i'm not brave enough to OSL a big model like that except for little lights and things!

You did a great job on the sword blade, reads as an exceptionally bright light source to my eyes.
If I had to critique the lighting effect from it though, it would be that it looks more like "object source coloring" than "object source lighting". If the sword light is bright enough to cast that much of a red glow on the model, then the ambient light must be much dimmer. However the blue on the opposite side of the torso reads just as bright as the red does, which takes away from the illusion that the red part is in a super bright light. Darkening that opposite side of the model down so it looks like it's in a much lower light could help sell the illusion you're going for.

Yeah, OSL when the rest of the model is in a bright sunny scene (i.e. how the blue is highlighted) is really difficult as it has to be subtle or it doesn't sell as there isn't enough contrast - either the sunny day would overpower the red sword, or the red sword would be strong enough of a light to start casting shadows on the rest of the model. The other issue imo is that light intensity falls off hard with distance, however here the right leg is further away but the OSL is just as intense as the left leg, and forearm less than the shoulder despite being closer, etc.
The best way to test is to put a photo of the model through a black and white filter and see if the light direction seems correct - the sword should clearly look like it's illuminating the red parts, but here it just looks like the model is painted normally as the highlighting has been applied equally across the model.
That's not to say it isn't a cool looking mini though - great job, and always worth pushing yourself and learning :)

Yeah, I pretty much came to the same conclusion :) I wanted the model to be standing in normal zenithal light, while also having a super strong light coming from the sword ( like a star wars light saber) but I over did it a bit with the intensity 😅 I should have made the glow more subtle, or the blue highlights darker. Oh well, it was meant to be a learning experience :)

Can I ask you why you went for painting instead of airbrushing the osl effect?
(sorry for randomly posting on older videos, I'm going through all your past vids 😅)

No worries at all, it actually helps with the algorithm 🤣
To be honest this project was mostly an experiment. I did it with the brush to try and learn manually placing the glow highlights.
You can see that this one is kinda rough and imperfect, but it becomes much better in one of the next videos when I am painting the Grey Seer.
No matter how much you learn about something, you actually have to do it a couple of times to really be able to pull it off. So, I like to just try something and even if it is not great at first, I can learn from it and do it better next time ☺️
